Experiences Most Ridiculous Roleplay Experiences?

Ah, the perils of group roleplay.

I mean it was mostly kind of funny at least. I think we all had a good laugh about it in the OOC and the GM was just like, keep it within the rules and remember NPC bad guy will be coming to catch the animal-humans soon.

I was once in a roleplay about animals (wild and domestic) that had been experimented on by a mad scientist so that they could take on human form at night. Kind of Frankenstein meets Werewolves type story.

Anyway the scene we were roleplaying is the animals all escaping one night and racing into the surrounding woods.

But in the middle of this two players decide they want to have their characters start having graphic sex while a handful of other characters watched (possible participated? I can’t remember the exact details).

But anyway it was definately kind of ridiculous cuz everyone else is playing their characters freaking about about being human OR running frantically away and there is this random group that is like - yep and then they had sex.

I'm actually laughing really hard at this. Why the hell do I find this so funny?

But anyways, the whole concept of the roleplay actually sounds really interesting. Despite.....that.

Oh I loved the premise. So much I made a spin off with the original owners permission. If I ever get back into groups that would be the idea I would use.

It doesn’t work as well with 1x1s sadly.

But yeah I think it was because the players were just so over the top and kinda giggling like little kids about it in the OOC. So it felt less like they were trying to hijack the story and more like they were being silly.

this maybe isn't super ridiculous compared to everything else, but I'll never forget the time I joined a relatively basic highschool RP because I was trying to ease myself into roleplaying, and there was like one character I saw who I figured was gonna be a moody edgelord who never spoke to the other characters (they were just giving off that vibe)

The GM of the roleplay basically vanished not very far into the roleplay, which was.. fine, really, because it didn't have a huge thrilling plot that was ruined by their character leaving. H o w e v e r. What it did mean was that we were now entirely unsupervised and there was nothing really stopping anyone from completely derailing the roleplay.

The characer I thought was going to be a moody edgelord, was in fact a moody edgelord, but I was wrong about the part where they don't engage with the other characters - their character essentially singlehandedly managed to turn this fairly basic roleplay about teenagers dicking around in highschool, into a full on thriller where the cast was running away from the mafia, and there were gang wars, and people were straight up dying.. and y'know what, godspeed to that guy. he made that roleplay 100% more fun and interesting, I can't even be mad

so this was back when i roleplayed in roblox, so of course, it's going to be a mess. (this was over game servers instead of their forums, so it wasn't super organized)

so, i was logged into a server for about a couple of hours. my character was well established within the group that i had been roleplaying with, and i was really happy. however, my character ends up leaving the group for a short amoun of time just because they were wandering around for a bit.

i come back to the group to find someone else has joined it, and here's the thing; our characers had the same name. it was just a conicidence, and i honestly didn't mind, but they did. they thought that i copied them. they demanded that i change my name, despite me being there longer. (didn't help that the people that knew my character weren't backing me up on "hey, i didn't copy you.") they then proceeded to try and get me kicked out of the server, and guess what? they succeeded. they had a mod for a friend. the friend didn't even question them, just kicked me out once they were demanded by the other roleplayer to do so.

i was so upset at the time, but i honestly find it hilarious now. seriously, all of this drama over a name.

Okay wow
this honestly sounds incredible
Somehow I find it simultaneously hilarious and awesome. Like... I'd love to be in an RP that seemed normal at first then suddenly spiraled into a gang war thriller. What an experience lol

It was honestly great, I really wasn't expecting much and then boom, a few days later my character is helping him stage a robbery, it was fun

What game was this, just curious? Or do you not remember?

So towards the very beginning of my time on this site, I posted that I was interested in doing a semi-realistic mecha themed roleplay on a 1-2-1 basis. This was amongst my first experience in a 1-2-1, I usually do more group related stuff as I didn't perticularly have anyone who I felt was interested in the same ideas and/or I trusted them well enough at the time. I rather enjoy working up ideas to set the stage for our characters and overall, I felt the other person wasn't interested in any of the backstory and appeared to be merely waiting for their chance to write up several paragraph on how their character piloted around xyz numbers of enemies, blasting them all away whilst not recieving a single scratch in return for this risky move. I thought i'd use the experience instead to work on the storyline for possible 1-2-1's in the future, working out when's the best time for action and when it would be better to relax the pacing of the story. From the on-set, my partner wasn't interested in talking to the various NPC's I had placed in and around this home-base/space-station orbitting above a mineral rich mining planet. Mechanics operating heavy machinery in the hanger bays, using smaller mechs to conduct tasks like manuallly inserting 120mm caseless ammuntion into huge link-belts to then be installed into the larger, combat mechs. Cafeterias and commerical food-outlets to provide ample oppertunities for my partner's character to sit down and write about their favourite meal or snack. Communication centres guided transport, supply and combat vessels in and around the station's area of influence. Many, many different areas for my partner's character to meet various NPCs and help out with pre-planned side quests to give him the chance to gain a reputation on-board to further add to the story later on.

Then I took one look at his character sheet and it was the most ridiculous, "roll your eyes" inducing cliché and uninteresting slob I had yet come across. This character was one of those "Youngster but with more experience than a military vet who consistently strokes their ego and over-comes any situation." - I distinctly remember writing this line when my partner decided to do some cringy 'Japanese style honor gesture' in his mech. "Alright kid, stay by me.. and no more of that kung fu shit... Take this job with a little more seriousness and you might actually earn some respect around here."

I felt that my time and effort had been wasted. I have had a fair number of similar incidents happen since becoming a bit more experienced with this site. Whilst it hasn't dulled my interest in creating complex situations and plots, it certainly has knocked my confidence and ability to trust in choosing when to try again with someone new.

As you're rather new to the site, i'd give this bit of advice. Only jump into a roleplay if you honestly think you can keep up with it. I've GM'd many roleplays in the past where a number of new people joined in, then simply disappeared when it became too much for them - i.e, they got overwhelmed. Take one step at a time, stalk a few roleplays that interest you and see how things go with it. Take note of the posting lengths, quality, what kind of characters and character sheets are created, any interactions between characters and so on. That said, everyone has their own style and ways of doing things and I encourage that you find what works for you. - Some people prefer more lengthy, focusing on the detail, type threads whilst others prefer more casual, relaxed storylines. Each are fun in their own way.

I actually do alot of roleplay on twitter and youtube.. And yes it did come to lewd.. So i'm not new at all

I don't get overwhelmed because i have ALOT i mean ALOT of people always contently texting me!

My Bleach 1x1 was pretty much pinballing from one ridiculous situation to the next. Highlights were our shinigami characters fighting a bondage gimp themed arrancar, "accidentally" spilling itching powder onto the lap of a captured Quincy, and my character falling through a hole between dimensions into a duck pond and gaining a duck friend for life. Also my partners character in that same incident destroyed someone's bonsai tree and gained an enemy for life. It was hella fun. I love ridiculousness in an rp.

Hm. I think the most ridiculous experience I've had in an rp was one that I caused. I was playing an alcoholic dwarf who loved women, but his charisma was so low that no one would even look his way so he often frequented the brothels around his town. I think my partners and I were on our way to an iron fortress ruled by dwarves as my character had a shop set up there. We were being driven by a half-orc who had offered to give us a ride through the night in exchange for a few pieces of gold. We paid, and so we were just traveling through the woods until suddenly we had a few Owl Bears chasing us, two I think. My character was sitting in the front with the driver and both of us were trying to somehow make the horses go faster. Eventually, I came up with the great idea that my other partners would not find so great. I asked to take the reigns because I knew of a shortcut (an obvious lie) since my dwarf has visited the place countless time cause he does business there, and when he got the reigns he immediately went about kicking the half-orc off to act as bait for the owl bear for our escape.

My partner said fuck my strategic planning and we ended up having to go back to save him. After we saved him, the half-orc was threatening to take his cart and leave us, so another partner, a paladin, went and stabbed him in the back. Everyone was shocked and asked him why and he said these famous words "He was going to steal our cart." The cart was never ours, but I swear that was the funniest thing I have ever heard his character say. Eventually, someone healed him and while we were arguing, the dude took a horse and left.

Pages later and the GM brought the half-orc back, the city where they were in had found him wounded and the Paladin and I both agreed it was time to finish what they started. Not gonna lie, I had a hella fun time rping with them. Did a lot of whacky shit in that rp.

Bad partners aside, this sounds like a really great premise. It’s like going out of your way to make a beautiful little cupcake, only for the recipient to pick their nose and wipe their boogers all over it, effectively taking make it less edible.

Gross metaphor, I know. But it was the first thing that came to mind.

I really appreciate your compliment on that plot of mine, thank you <3. I've always had a interest in mechanical and military engineering. I honestly feel like a child in a sweet shop whenever I imagine a Sci-Fi workshop, rows upon rows of combat mechs with a well co-ordinated ground crew conducting repairs and maintenance. Plus i'm a huge lover of weapon mechanics (as in, how they work and what sort of components preform certain actions). So it's easy for me to write paragraph after paragraph on what may seem a minute detail to others but it's something that would have a significant role to play in certain actions down the storyline. I think overall i'd rather have a world that's filled to the absolute brim with details, wide varieties of non-player characters, varied difficulties when it comes to opponents that the characters will come across, new tactics would have to be developed depending on what gear the characters take into the fight. For me it's more than just the two player characters to focus on, there's a economy and logistics to think about. If you've decided to deck your combat-mech out with the most powerful cannon on this side of the galaxy, where would you get your ammunition from? The average tank shell munitions today costs somewhere around $4000 to $5000 - each. How much cash do you think your bosses will be happy to part away with because you wanted to be a little too trigger-happy with your weaponry? ;)

I'm blabbering on now but I agree very much with you FoolsErin FoolsErin . It's rather upsetting to see someone wipe boogers all over my Bakery's window just because they only wanted the coffee cake at the back. :P It's taught me alot now about being selective with who I decide to work alongside with - which is even more sad because i'd love to include every-single person that shows interest but as we've all experienced, that interest can just vanish entirely sometimes and leaves alot of people feeling rather bitter.

Edit: T Tove wrote this to me a little while ago whilst we were discussing a similar theme and it really stuck with me ever since. For me, it perfectly captures my situation and beliefs when it comes to dismissing protential partners for something i've put alot of work into because I feel it's something that could fall apart due to a imbalance of effort from both people.

"You are dedicated to see the roleplay you put your blood, sweat, and tears into flourish. There's nothing wrong with that. And I am going to be frank, you kind of do have to keep your trust guarded. Not everyone has your type of commitment or ethic. They are here today gone tomorrow leaving you with the work or they want to deviate from your plans. When you have been burned enough times you don't want it to happen so you have every right to want to keep everything within you."
