Other Do you prefer pre-made characters, or to create your own?

Do you prefer one someone already has a story and characters laid out, and their roles, or do you prefer to create your own characters?

Definitely create characters for each rp as I try to make them each individual and different depending on the story line. I think it makes them more versatile.

I never have nor never will use a character I haven't made as a main
Maybe as an NPC

using my own characters feels like i'm actually contributing something, as opposed to just following someone else's idea to a tee.

Characters created by someone else---> never in a million years

Characters I created but not specifically for the RP--> didn't use to, but I'm starting to open up to the idea

Character created specifically for that roleplay---> what I do

I just wanted to ask for some clarification on this question. Do you mean play a character that already has a specific story, background, characteristics, etc. laid out for them, or are you just referring to playing a character that your partner has already designated a certain role? Because I think there's a pretty steep difference between the two, and I'm just curious what exactly you meant.

Thank you for the clarification!

With that being said, I would never roleplay a character that someone had already created like that. Not only does it suck to get no input on your own character, but if someone is that specific on the character that they would like you to write, in my experience at least, that's a pretty good sign that they will also be overbearing in every other aspect of the roleplay.

I play fandom RPs sometimes, so technically I'm using pre-made characters. Although since I'm the one playing them, there is always some degree of my own input. I don't meen OOC, but let's say, headcanons.
In a way, I like the restrictions fandom RPs impose on you. You need to think about character reactions more carefully to not hit OOC. While as when you play as an OC, you can technically do what you wish as long as you can logically explain it.

With that said, I don't mind either.

The only thing I don't like to do is re-using characters created for another rp. Again, with the excepton of fandom RPs, where I can play the same character more than once.

I much prefer creating my own, although there is a glimmer of challenge within a pre-made that allures me.

I have this weird anxiety that I'm playing a character wrong when I do pre-made. Making my own is my preference.

I always create my own characters to use. I don't even like playing canon characters, so I won't play one someone else has come up with. I'm much more comfortable and get more enjoyment out of using characters that I've come up with myself.

Depends on what we're doing.

In the case of an original story that we're collaboratively building together, I'd definitely want to make my own character so I can make them fit into the world my way.

But, if it's a case where someone's built a world and has characters that need to play certain parts for the story to flow, then y'know what? I don't mind playing a pre-made as long as their creator understands they can't hold me to 100% encompass their vision since we're entirely different people with different minds.

In the case of playing from a franchise, however? No preference. I enjoy playing canon characters as much as I do original ones. I love canons for creating my own headcanons and seeing how everyone interprets the character differently and I love original characters for being able to explore parts of the world/different origins the original creator might not have put much into.

So, it just varies.

I make my own characters and refuse to rp as any other character that wasn’t created by my mind

I really like roleplaying as reestablished characters. Doing the research on them and coming up with my own interpretation is just fascinating to me. With that said, I still enjoy creating my own characters, especially since they often end up way more personal to me. I like a balance, though.

I recently got into making pre-made characters. I always have to tweak things though to fit the roleplay. Mostly I tend to reuse names and faceclaims and basic stuff like that and change everything else to fit the rp though.

I Usually create my own characters... It tends to have a benefit of being able to be well suited to your needs andcan be modified based on your ideas....unless theres a so called "sassy bitch" whiner who love to impose their beliefs on you....then expect your original character to have aspecta of them stolen Like their names for example.

I'm weird. I actually like both. And I like the idea of mixing pre-made characters with my own self-created characters. Mostly for stories, for fun lol. I just think it's fun, to be able to both, in my opinion. Like why limit myself? Because I feel creativity should be limitless, as long as you're obeying the copyright laws and having fun with your work (whether it's writing or what have you); I think, in my opinion, that characters you roleplay with or that I RP with or write with and/or about should be free. And I love this old phrase of "characters taking on a life of their own" and this other phrase, "the story writing itself". :) Which simply means to me, that for me, I enjoy being limitless in the way I create my stories whether or not I created the stories or their all-original.

And in my opinion, I don't believe in "originality". I personally believe and this is just me, no-one has to nor needs to take this seriously; but I believe this term "There's new under the sun and what we're doing now, has already been done.". It's something I personally believe and I don't see it, as a bad thing. But to each their own. As long as nobody's forcing their opinions and beliefs on me; then I say take this post as you will. It might not be pleasing to everyone, but it's my perspective. Hopefully though, my own social awkwardness made it funny lolzness!

If I can choose, I would love to create my own character, his story, his personality and issues.
But also being a obsessed fan with some things, depending on the fandom, I would do something that’s already planned.

My own. I only do pre-mades if it's being asked for by good friends or it's just a one sentence prompt and I have free reign over everything else.
