Santo Guineth
Veronica's Tavern
yvell_by_las_t-d67dgjd.jpg
Eyes shifting glances at the ongoing scenes, Santo ignored them for the most part, having his own problems to deal with. Even he could not deny the peculiar atmosphere, the interesting faces and visages that filled the dank tavern of the small town, and after meeting someone who too had heard this song... He couldn't help but feel that these events were not entirely by chance.

As the young teenager sat back down at her table, Santo gave a brief nod to her. "I know I wish I could." He agreed, eyes slowly blinking as the feeling of tired exhaustion filled him. How long had it been since he had a proper nights sleep? Years now? Even before this song had been stuck in his head, ever since his friend... He didn't want to think about it, instead looking back over toward the commotion before them.

At the mention of the song, Santo's eyes moved toward the white haired girl, almost gluing to the white haired young woman, puzzled. He had never seen someone so young with such a colour to their locks, well, beside himself of course. He remained silent, staring, As the young teenager replied to her however, Santo quickly blinked, averting his gaze from the young woman, how long had he been gazing toward her? "Another one!?" He asked himself in a hushed tone, looking down as he did so for a short moment, before looking back toward the young woman, awaiting to see if she could finish the line with desperate anticipation.

Era

The day's bright sun all but burned Era's eyes. She held her hand like a visor, but even the ground was bright enough to force her to close her eyes every few seconds. The hood of her cloak could only do so much.
That being said, she almost didn't notice when she had finally arrived into this tiny town. Immediately, she made for the first public-looking building.

The tavern door swung quietly open and in trudged a woman, blinking away the outside's too-bright light. She made her way discreetly to a table in a corner and practically fell into the chair. Era didn't really take much notice to any of the other people and their quiet chatter for a while, just rubbing her eyes. When the ache subsided, she took a glance around the tavern, and noticed a few animals, and, of course, people. The people...
Why were there so many children in a tavern? Why did they all look so achingly tired? Was one of them... sleepwalking? Concern creased Era's brow. She heard shreds of their conversation about exhaustion. Era knew it was a little hypocritical, but...
'Why's there a bunch of children out on the road all like this?'

Anya’s face lights up as Jessie responds to her. “Be not afraid, come follow me. Answer my call and I’ll set you free~!” She sings back, her voice clear and ringing. She’s been taught to sing at one point, or potentially taught herself. She seems so happy to be singing, too. She loves the chance to sing, especially this song that’s been stuck in her head for so long. It’s a beautiful song.

“Be not afraid, come follow me. Answer my call and I’ll set you free!”
Jessie's eyes widened. "You... you know it too? Lordy, I thought we were both crazy! I'm Jessie, by the way." She stuck out her hand for the white-haired girl to shake. When the girl didn't respond, Jessie awkwardly retracted her hand. "Well, anyway. I'm Jessie, and this here is Mumble. She's a good girl too. So why are you guys out here?"

Anya has no idea what just happened, so she doesn’t show any signs of awkwardness. “I’m following the music!” She says brightly. “It’s been going on for so long, and it keeps calling me, so I thought that I should see where it wants me to go.” For someone who deals with spirits, this is perfectly logical. She assumes it’s a very powerful spirit calling to her. Maybe even one of those angels Papa talked about! They’re known for singing, right?

She turns her head, looking like she’s listening to someone to her left. Then she blushes, groaning softly. “Ah… you just tried to shake my hand, didn’t you…” She mumbles awkwardly, looking back at Jessie. “I’m sorry, I can’t…” She waves a hand over her eyes. “I can’t see.” It’s always so awkward explaining that fact.

Silan Munroe

Silan's eyes immediately lit up at the offer of food, his mind almost completely glossing over the mentions of heading west as he excitedly stood up from his chair and eagerly said a bit too loudly, "Please!" Although, he quickly sat back down in embarrassment, his face flushed a light pink. "I-I mean, if that's, if that's okay with ya and all that." He couldn't help his excitement, especially with how much his stomach was complaining. Even Indy seemed stoked at the idea- even though the damn thing could go hunt for his own grub.

Taking a few deep breaths to force away a bit of his nervousness, Silan started talking again, "Oh, uhm, yer going west?" He managed to crack a little grin as he countiued, "So am I! I- uhm, I'd guess that's why a lotta people are here though. Travelers and such." He would've continued mumbling and rambling about things he quickly thought were stupid right after saying them, had Jessie and the other girl she'd spoken to not begun singing that eerily familiar tune.

He found himself quietly humming to the words they sang briefly, before blinking and realizing what exactly this meant.

There were others. There were others. Where had they heard it? Was it the same as him? In dreams?

He wasn't sure what to make of this... Part of him just wanted to go home and be done with this, as he'd contemplated many times, yet it also gave him further determination to figure out where this... whatever this was, was coming from.

Silan realized he'd been staring at the two in shock for far too long, and quickly tore his gaze away. He rested his head in his arms again, similar to how he'd been earlier as he felt a headache coming on. His eyes flickered up to the shorter boy that had joined, and Silan realized he'd never said his name, "What's- uhm, who are you? If you said, you know your name or anything, I don't think I caught it. I'm Sil- uh, Silan." He was eager to get introductions out of the way- partially so he didn't have to keep referring to him as "the shorter boy," but mostly because he was starving and he was pretty confident his body was eating itself right now, so food sounded great.

PAYTH

{OOC: Fickle fickle little muse.}
“Why don’t you sit down with us, I can pay for food if you guys want.”

Sorry, what?

Payth stood there. Blinked. He felt, for lack of a better word, suckerpunched.

He was hardly guessing how she would respond, but this was two steps beyond anything he'd expected. Really? Was she honestly this open to strangers she'd met no less than fifteen seconds ago? Kindness wasn't a bad trait, of course; the world could use more of it. But such a warm and, frankly, genuine greeting caught him off guard completely, to the point he could do nothing but stare at her, expressionless, as he tried to regather his derailed thoughts.

Inviting. That was the word. He wasn't used to strangers being so inviting.

A raw interest burned in his eyes, but it was a simple stare. Similar to how young children stare up at others before they can speak. Nothing accusatory, nothing suspicious, nothing angry; just open-eyed and fueled by a strange curiosity. People acted like her in real life, huh? People really were that bubbly and fearless and bouncy with people they'd just met?

A blink. He tried to express the dull puzzlement verbally, but he couldn't find a phrase that captured what he was feeling: a froth of confusion and wonder and naive curiosity brimming under the surface, an excitable mix of churning emotions, a burning vat of energy stirred but unable to coalesce. He couldn't explain. Every sentence he ran through failed before he could finish, but feeling the need to outlet some sort of expression, he asked, quite simply, "Why?"

And, keeping the near-expressionless face, he turned to Silan. "Payth."
{OOC: He apparently doesn't notice anything else. :3}

Era

Era listened to this gaggle of children a bit longer. Caught mentions of a song, and that they aimed to travel west. Or at least one of them. But more than just one seemed to know the song. A lead.

But first and foremost, these were children. And none of them looked much better than her own scruffy self, if at all. Tiny children. Era certainly felt very rude, suddenly bursting into their conversation, but regardless, she stood up quickly with a swish of her cloak.
'No. Nope! You're not paying. None of you are paying. I will.' She asked herself again under her breath, 'Why is there a bunch of little kids out on the road like this? Where even are their parents? This is just irresponsible...' Era sighed. 'Get whatever you want. I'll pay for it all. But,' She paused and shook her head, 'Eh, later.'

Anya looks over at the older, female soul that calls out to them, and her eyes widen. “R-really?” She asks, looking like she might cry with relief. She’s easy to steal from. She knows that. She’s already had things taken from her, and has had to beg a few times to have enough money for food and supplies. It’s not like she can work for it, no one wants to hire a blind child.

She walks over to Era, careful to feel around with her hands and feet for anything she might trip over, until she’s close enough to hug the woman. She does so, a light hug, but a genuine one. “Thank you.” She whispers, needing Era to know how much this means to her.

Era

Era is slightly taken aback at being hugged, but all the same puts an arm around this girl's shoulders.
'It's no problem. Now let's just get you all some food. And a nap, all of you look like you haven't slept in days.'
She walked over to the table that the children had collected around, one hand still on Arya's shoulder. The way this child walked, there was something askew with her vision, undoubtedly. She acted like Era herself did when she couldn't even open her eyes for the sake of too much light. After Arya and others began taking their seats, Era trotted over to the distracted barkeep.
'Could you please get some food out for that table of kids? I'll pay for it all.'
She returned to their table and dragged her chair over from the last one, and plopped down.
'So... yeah, so... who is everyone that's here? I'm Era.'

Ricollete chuckled as Silan jumped on the opportunity of free food. She would've done the same. Though suddenly she felt winded, completely floored at her self and how she could be so inviting. It was awful, what in the world was that? That certainly wasn't like her to feel that way at all. Sitting back Ri let the boys talk and nodded as they introduced themselves as well. "Yeah, heading west with an odd traveling song and an adorable cat." Making note that the table near by with the other kids she saw we're talking about songs as well, even singing the lyric of the tune in her head. Something was up and Ri wanted to get to the bottom of it but puzzlement and confusion began to rise up in her. She turned to Payth and Silan, Payth had utter a single word and then turned away to give what she guessed was his name. Something wasn't right here....

Then a strange woman approached them, seemingly begging to pay for everyone. Riannon raised a brow and chuckled. The white haired girl from before went to her and hugged her immediately. She looks unendingly grateful for the woman’s offer.
Era
Era is slightly taken aback at being hugged, but all the same puts an arm around this girl's shoulders. 'It's no problem. Now let's just get you all some food. Riannon smiled at this era. ”I’m Ricollete, but you can call me Ri and this is Nera.” She scooped up the car in her arms and made her wave at Era before chuckling and putting the fur ball on her lap. That cat took a moment to get comfy and then sat down all the way. Ri looked back at Era. Blurting out a few questions. “Why are you offering to pay for all of us? Do you even know if we know each other? I mean. I wanted to pay to make friends hopefully but you’re much older, what interest do you have in joining us ? How do you know we’re not criminals, or worse? ” She asked away, talking on, unaware of her questions were to much or to prying or maybe even a little rude. Most times she said what ever came to mind as curiosity filled her mind. All these people together, talking aboutnthe song and going west and now free food. This was just reeking interesting! [div class="Lines"][/div]

Era
Era smiled and waved her fingers at Ri's cat before she replied.
'Well, I heard few of you talk about traveling out west, so I presume at least of few of you were together? And, you're all children, so frankly, I find it unlikely that any of you are criminals. None of you have that kind of look about you. Also,' Era paused, 'Well... You're all children. And none of you look especially traveled. That's a very difficult situation to be in, alone or not. And, if you're all headed west, it's not exactly out of my way. We can each share why we're traveling after we introduce ourselves, if you all like.'

Anya smiles, very glad to have these people here. She likes Era. She seems very kind, and she’s willing to buy Anya food without her even having to ask for it. So that’s awesome. “I’m Anya!” She says brightly, looking around at the other souls around her and Era. “It’s very nice to meet all of you.”

Silan Munroe

He sort of gave an awkward smile to the boy, Payth, then quickly turned away. He seems... enthused? His mind raced, assuming this kid probably already hated him and Rico so there was no point in trying and- no, that was silly. Silan realized he'd been tugging at a newer bandage on his arm and quickly stopped, switching to picking at his shirt so as to not mess with whatever injury was under there or pull the wrapping off."So... uhm-"

'No. Nope! You're not paying. None of you are paying. I will.'

Silan looked over with a little confused frown, as if he wasn't sure, or couldn't believe, that it was directed towards him and the other younger folks here. He tensed, sitting up when the woman walked over, along with the girl with stark white hair. Glancing around to see if anyone else would be walking over, he scooped Indy off of the table and set him back on the window sill- although the bird immediately found a spot on top of Silan's head to perch on.

Of course, he was grateful the woman had decided to pay for food for 'em all, but he couldn't help but feel hesitant towards accepting the offer. Not that he thought the woman would give him much choice. It felt different compared to when Rico offered, and maybe it was because the girl was around his age and he'd gotten the chance to talk to her a bit first. What if the woman had some sort of malicious intent? And... he wasn't particularly looking forward to being surrounded by near strangers, knowing he's having a hard enough time with just two. You'll get over it, he told himself as the two girls sat down, listening as Ricolette fired off all the questions he wished he had the courage to ask.

The woman answered, and Silan relaxed a little when she seemed genuine about helping them all out a bit. He gave a little nod to the girl, Anya, when she introduced herself, although he couldn't help but feel something was off when she looked at everyone. It felt as though she wasn't looking at them, but through them. He sort of glanced at Ricolette for a moment to shake away any apprehension he felt and mumbled, "I'm-I'm Silan."

"Set you free..." Santo thought out loud after the girl had sung it, placing his hand on his temple as he slouched on the bar chair. "What do you think it means?" He questioned, confused, yet retained. He thought he knew, perhaps it was something to do with these powers he held, yet these two also sharing such abilities, especially one so young, it was surely impossible... Then again, he wasn't much older when...

"Santo." He simply answered, looking back up toward the girls, mulling over his own thoughts. "Travelling west, a drone to that tune, I don't imagine you're doing the same?" Santo looked to the side, to a window that faced in their desired direction. At this point he was going to run out of towns to venture too, he had hoped this might be the final one...

Anya smiles over at Santo, tilting her head. “Not the words I would have chosen, but yes! It seems like she wants to talk to me, and she’s been singing to me for so long, I really want to see her!” She says brightly. Anya is obviously a very cheerful sort, despite her issues.

PAYTH

{OOC: As I'm not as active as y'all are, and considering Lost Lost with Leon posts about as often as me, I figured it'd be good for Payth to move over to that table. You know, prevent any headblocks but still keep Leon and Payth in the RP. }

"It's not that I don't appreciate the offer," Payth said, looking up at Era, "but I can't. It's lunacy, if I'm to be honest. A few minutes ago, I woke up after a fortnight of subconsciously 'traveling west,' as everyone is so keen to say, to find myself stranded in a low-beat tavern, located in some town I only vaguely remember hearing of, surrounded by children who can sing the death carol I've spent weeks fighting to avoid. I'd have to be an idiot not to see the warning signs. Really, as much as I appreciate the generosity you have, I can't bring myself to to join you all."

He shook his head slightly before continuing in a gentler tone. "I don't think you're being manipulative or anything. Honest. Some people really are just kind," he said, looking away from Era a moment to give Ricolette a slight nod of his head. "And I respect you for taking a rag-tag group of kids under your care. All I ask is that you let me take care of myself. And if the dark magic or whatever it is that's dragging us west leads everyone to an old dragon lair or an evil sorceress's tower or some other magic monstrosity, I wish you luck. You'll need it."

He began to step away from the table before he paused a moment, turned around, and gave a small smile. "Don't die, all right?" Then he walked away, settling instead to a disused table in the corner.

Yes, he was tired and hungry--though, as he thought about it, not nearly as tired and hungry as he should have been, considering how long he'd been traveling--but he couldn't bring himself to spend more time with that group over there. Too many coincidences. Too many signs. He'd rather take his chances heading back on his own than getting caught up in whatever was bound to happen.

Leon shut his eyes tight, shivering, as another wave of pain racked his leg. He tried to quell the shivering, to sit completely still, but it was nigh impossible. The pain caused him to shake, and the shaking, in turn, caused more pain.

He couldn't help but wonder if perhaps he'd caught a cold. It was certainly possible, with all the days filled with walking, and nights filled with fitful bouts of sleep. The two made for a harrowing combination, and Leon couldn't help but think of the doctor back in Cynta. The man had always warned him of the risks of extensive exercise, given his limp, but he had always shrugged it off. He had trouble walking, sure, but he'd never gotten sick because of it, nor did he think he would. It was his leg which was crippled, after all, not the rest of his body.

In retrospect, the logic of his younger self made him roll his eyes. He had possessed a penchant for thinking he knew better than everyone else, even when his train of thought was littered with flaws. The doctor struggled with this more than anyone else in his attempts to help the boy treat his limp. Leon resolved to thank the man, were he ever to return to his home.

Another dull throb brought him out of his nostalgia, and he noticed another boy had seated himself at the table. He was around the same age as Leon, if not a few years younger, and as he watched the newcomer, he realized a deep sense of worry had come over him, mixed with fear. He frowned at the thought; he could understand the anxiety, but what had he to fear? The voice had made him uneasy, and the pain made him more than a little uncomfortable, but neither were particularly frightening. Perhaps it was his potential madness, a thought that seemed to grow more plausible by the day. He couldn't be sure.

In any case, someone else was seated at the table now, someone who might want something, and Leon didn't have the time to sort out his feelings without seeming rude. He was horribly awkward where social interaction was concerned, but even he knew that much.

"Er... Excuse me, did you need something?" He asked as he turned to face the newcomer, ignoring the pain caused by the movement.

Era

'Well,' Era paused to thank the person that had brought out a plate with a bread loaf and set it in the center of the table. 'If all of you are headed west, then I don't see why it'd be any detriment, I'm headed that way too. And that's also-- you all being young-- that's also part of the reason. I don't know if any of you kids have ever faced three bandits. The roads aren't always safe. And besides, how many of you have been before where you're going? Least I can do is make sure you guys get there alright.'
Of course Era had heard the comments from all of them about the song that they said came from the west. She was chasing whispers, and these children seemed to be after the same goal. Even if some of them wanted to avoid it, they at least needed the opportunity to get there a little more safely than on their own.
'And of course, I can understand if you don't want to travel with a stranger, but I feel like I should offer help. And you all look nightmarishly exhausted.'

Anya looks at the older woman’s soul, still a bit overwhelmed. “Thank you so much.” She says softly, noticing that she can feel some of her hair on her face, and pushing it back behind an ear. “It’s really easy to steal from a blind person, unfortunately. I don’t have much left.”

She’s still very upset that people decided to take her things. She was having a hard enough time following the voice before that. Now she has some more people to help protect her.

"Santo." He simply answered, looking back up toward the girls, mulling over his own thoughts. "Travelling west, a drone to that tune, I don't imagine you're doing the same?"
“Not the words I would have chosen, but yes! It seems like she wants to talk to me, and she’s been singing to me for so long, I really want to see her!”
Jessie nodded, and she admitted she agreed with Anya. Whoever this woman was, she had a lovely voice. The kind of voice that Jessie wished she herself could have. Not that she really had any desire to sing, but it would be nice to have a talent that wasn't as strange as the one she had. "Me too. I just couldn't stop myself from going, so I went. My ma and pa weren't too happy about it, but they got my little siblings to help them. All I wanna do is eat and find some quiet tree to sleep under."

((OOC: Sorry about disappearing! It's been a crazy few days. I'm also starting up school again, which honestly should regulate my schedule and give me more time to be online. Here's hoping!))

A maid brought food to the table, simple soup and rolls. Not much, but it was hot and smelled delicious. "Enjoy yerselves," the maid droned, as if she had been awake for far too long.

"Where are you, children?" A quiet voice wondered. Eliss was growing impatient. It had been many weeks since she had first ignited the calling beacon, and yet none of the children had come. Eliss wrapped her thin arms around herself, staring out at the stone plains in worry. Bepraffe hardly moved anymore, his legs too weak to support his body. Eliss glanced back at him, and her chin trembled. He had been so grand, once. He had saved her from herself, from all of this. From the cruel world and its unrelenting sorrow.
"Where are you?" Eliss whispered again, and resolve gathered in her bosom. The children had heard the call, she was sure of it. How could they not have? So, it was time for the second step in her plan.
Eliss stepped forward with a grace akin to a spider on a web. She took a deep breath in, and exhaled.
It was time for the second verse.

"I am the voice in the wind and the pouring rain
I am the voice of your hunger and pain
I am the voice that always is calling you
I am the voice, I will remain."

The energy from the spell hung in the air, and Eliss kissed it, and sent it away with another exhale. The words flew away, dancing towards the minds of the children she sought.
"Eliss?" A voice muttered behind her. "Eliss, what was that? I felt something."

"It was the second verse, my dear friend," Eliss told him. "The children, I think, need more encouragement. So I gave them some."
"You must know that the more the song grows in length, the more it grows in power."

Eliss nodded, and turned away from the cliff, moving back towards Bepraffe carefully. She was careful not to step on any of her friends as she knelt by his side. "Of course, Bepraffe. That's why I did it."
"The song gives them power, Eliss. Their abilities will increase."
Eliss curled up by Bepraffe, and rested her head on one of his legs.
"I know. They need it, though. Or they will, when they come."
"Why?"
Eliss closed her eyes. "To sing for you."

Bepraffe didn't question her further. Perhaps he had decided Eliss was only going to speak in more riddles. Perhaps he had figured out her plans. Whatever the case, Eliss was exhausted from the spell and needed to rest. She didn't know where the children were, or what they were doing. She only cared that they were coming.
She just prayed they would come faster.

((OOC: Eliss has given you guys the second verse. It comes to you in your dreams. All of you have the same dream; you're standing on a cliff face, and you have an urge to jump. You don't though, and instead something makes you look back. You see your siblings (I think everyone has at least one, check the character sheets for yours), and they come and pull you away from the edge. You turn back towards the cliff, and all around you you hear the words of the second verse. They're written in the sky. As soon as you hear the last word of the second verse, your siblings turn you back towards them and before you see them again you wake up.))

((OOC: With the second verse comes the second wave of your powers. This is up to you, and I'll gladly help where I can. You may choose to just increase your power in your ability, or add a smaller, second ability. Whatever the case, your character may or may not notice this newfound ability or strengthening of power.))

((OOC: ALMOST DONE I SWEAR. Wherever you choose to sleep, you all find yourselves sleepwalking west (ALL of you) and on the road in a group. When you wake up, you're all scattered on the road, asleep in various positions. Spazzycat101 Spazzycat101 you can follow them, but you can not wake any of them up. If you try to wake them up or stop them from walking, they scream as if in pain, or fight you off (and in some cases their abilities come out. If you want this to happen PM Spazzycat and discuss it with them). Have fun with your adopted children :) )).

((OOC: Any questions of course post in the OOC chat.))

Eventually, Santo retreated from the inn, finding somewhere to once again attempt to rest his more than weary eyes. Surprisingly, sleep came easily this night, almost as if the song repeating in his mind acted as a lullaby.

"Do it." Santo's mind told him, his body standing on the cliff face, looking down, his expression emotionless. "After all you've done, all you're likely to do, you can't control it." The thoughts... They were right. Who knew what he would become if he couldn't control his own power, if he could not resist the urges that stabbed at him through all hours of the day. Tendrils of blood began to crawl from his skin, bracing themselves into the soil beneath, his legs growing weary, unmovable under the strain. "Look... Look!" Santo's eyes opened wide, head slowly rotating to face behind him, a recently familiar figure rushing to his direction.

The blind girl, Anya he believed her name was. Santo gazed at the white-haired girl, attempting to understand exactly what was happening. Why was she attempting to save him? Could she not see what he was? Or perhaps, it was he whom was truly blind. Pulling on the soaked tendrils, and on his body, she managed to wrestle the young man from the edge. Turning back toward the cliff, another verse echoed in Santo's mind, the same song that had haunted him for weeks, writing itself in the very sky above them. A sudden force from a soft touch turned his body, the tendrils of blood now receded into his body, his gaze spinning as he did, expecting to see the empty eyes of the blind girl, yet...

Santo's eyes opened, for the first time since he had been sleeping, taking a deep breath in shock. Where was he?

Anya is very happy to have hot food, but it does make her pretty sleepy. Once rooms are arranged for them, she goes to sleep, very happy and comfy on a real bed for the first night in ages.

The first thing she’s aware of in her dream is that she can see. She can see the cloff, the blue sky, the rocks below, the shore, the sea! Anya laughs, walking closer to the edge, feeling a call to jump. To plummet to the ground, to crash to the rocks and water below. Why does she want to do that? Well, that doesn’t occur to her right now. She’s dreaming, the thought simply doesn’t come up.

She pauses, and her head turns, seeing a young man. He has short hair, the same shocking white as her own. He has a sharp chin, and a sharp nose. His eyes are bright blue, and burn into hers with intensity as he takes her by the shoulders, and pulls her back and away from the edge.

Anya wants to speak, to ask who he is, but before she can utter a word, the voice that’s been calling her for so long rings out, and she looks to the sky, seeing words written in the pale aisle of cloud. She tries to turn to face the man, before she hears her name called.

She wakes standing, which already is very wrong. Thomas is flitting around her, calling her name frantically. Anya falls to the ground, unable to orient herself to her new position, and feels dirt and rocks on her hands. “Thomas, what happened?” She asks, not aware of the other souls around her yet. He’s apparently been trying to get her attention ever since the inn, but he just couldn’t wake her.
