Children of Villainy
  • It is generally accepted that the Tyranny began when King Henrich and Queen Patil died on a hunt. It was an accident, or so everyone believed. Prince Neddeir came home from his travels to his young wife Inina, and the two mourned the loss of the beloved King and Queen. The next morning, Prince Neddeir was crowned king, and the princess was crowned Queen. It was then that everything seemed to spiral downwards. First, King Neddeir institutionalized forced labor of any homeless or jobless individual, removed almost all courtiers, nobility, and any non-essential staff (those that were removed were sent along with the forced laborers to various mines, shipping yards, factories, or military). Once his military was large enough, he ignored any treaties made and went to war with the neighboring country of Quihiri. In a short war that lasted four years, he conquered and pillaged Quihiri, creating a nervous tension between Fareen and other nations. Having proved his military's might, Fareen signed treaties with Erso, Tatalis, and Wergsta, essentially stating that Fareen would not attack them as long as they provided taxes. Erso contended against this, and Fareen crushed them. Tatalis and Wergsta were quick to fall into line.

Within Fareen, the citizens were split between several major groups. Most supported the wars of Quihiri and Erso, seeing the wealth and strength it brought their nation. However, there was a growing resistance group made of the forced laborers that disagreed with King Neddeir's treatment of them and other nations. They were simply known as "The Resistance" and it was whispered throughout the kingdom rumors of unrest and thoughts of rebellion.

Throughout all of this, Queen Inina appeared to be the savior of the resistance. She organized giant food stores to be smuggled out of the castle, under her husband's nose. She encouraged talk of dissent and rebellion, making it clear that she would help however she could. The Resistance truly believed that she was an ally, a member of the court that King Neddeir would never suspect. However, as the years of the Tyranny continued, the situation worsened. Any attempt to organize and rise against the King was met with shadowy assassins killing any leaders or members of Resistance groups. Hope was crushed, and public opinion turned away from the King to the Stoneknife guild, where the assassins were from. However, no one could touch them, and it was quickly obvious that without the Stoneknife guild, the King wouldn't be able to stop them.

It is assumed that this opinion is what made Queen Inina reveal her true role in the Tyranny. The Resistance was gaining strength again, and there was one particular meeting where the Resistance leader received a letter. "From the Stoneknife Guild. We will no longer support Averti's Crown. Where would you like us to strike first?"

After that, the Resistance found themselves a powerful new ally. Stoneknife was quick to implicate Queen Inina as the true ruling force in Averti. It took many months before the Resistance leaders believed Stoneknife, and even then it took a final showdown at the White Ice Citadel in Averti before it was abundantly clear who was in charge. Queen Inina was killed, overrun by sheer numbers, but not before she killed Mary Polaskis, the wife of Ricky Polaskis, leader of the Resistance.

General Daveedi was also killed in that final battle. The last of Queen Inina's government officials, a man named Bihaal Dyrone, surrendered and was later executed by Resistance Leaders.
