Fat Gandalf's Bar & Lounge (OOC chat) - Chapter One

@Kaerri @Sherwood @Captain Hesperus @Psychie

Chapter One is ready to go!  WOOO!

Enjoy, you guys, and thank for being with me on what will very likely be a fun and memorable ride for all.  =)

Honor and fun,

Dann =)

P.S. It's worth mentioning again that DWiz has an open invitation to join us whenever Real Life lets him, whenever that may be.  =)

Heya folks!  While posting, I forgot to mention a few things (that thankfully, I can get away with mentioning here):

1. Mario is suffering from the twisted ankle he received yesterday.  The sprain isn't bad, just painful (he has to step carefully, no running at top speed, kicking is at a minus; that's a bad thing when you study Tae Kwon Do).  It's the kind of sprain that's inconvenient, but not long-lasting (maybe a day or two before normal functionality is returned).

2. Herc is sore from his incredible exertions yesterday (likely in his thighs, biceps, forearms, and chest muscles) but that will likely go away in a day or two.  Herc is also likely tired from lack of sleep (he was rescued during the night hours and I imagine he did not get 7-8 hours of sleep prior to this assembly).

3. Elinor and Toph didn't receive any lasting physical punishment, so they're clear on that level.

4. Just everyone remember what each of your characters went through "24 hours ago."  Your characters were in life-threatening danger (some for the first time, like Elinor's Elephant), something besides you was in your mind, and you met people you did not know, each with their own effect (if any).

5. So, at the start of the game here, your character has a few minutes prior to roll call to just provide his or her thoughts, maybe strike up a short chat.  In short, introduce your character into this setting.  Your characters have each spent a minimum of the past 4 years of their life training in the Army of the Southern Cross all to get to an opportunity like this one.  It's an exciting time in your character's life.  =)

P.S.  Now, maybe that I've gotten these thoughts out of my head I can go back to sleep.  *Hyperkinetic GM goes back to bed.*  WHEEEeeeee-thud-zzzzzz....  =)

-Sherwood, Cap'n.  After reading your posts, I just have to tell you - that is some really good writing!  Sherwood, that is one of the best posts I've seen you write.  Cap'n, I love the amount of thought and reflection inside of Herc.  =)

Outstanding.  =)

Love the setting music. ^33^   As Dannigan knows, that's one of my favorite movies!

@Sherwood, @Captain Hesperus, @Psychie

I've checked with Dannigan and he says his post had "Albert" by mistake.  It should be "Arthur."  I've corrected this with his permission.

@Psychie, Dann asks, with his apologies, would you rewrite your post accordingly?

Arthur Stein has been a character of mine since at least 2001; since I created him, I continue to mix his name up with Albert Einstein (something Arthur would take as a great compliment).

I am especially prone to such goofs when I am tired which was the case last night.  Sorry about that, Psychie!

I wasn't sure if it was a typo or a different guy. I just went with the different guy theory, knowing that it could be changed easy enough.

Psychie sez,  "I see both air and ground forces represented here, and even different branches of the military. I mean, you are a RDF test pilot, I'm TASC, there are some Tactical Corps and several hover tank pilots."  (bold mine)

Actually, the way I see it, all of the PCs are under ASC (no one is in RDF).  If memory serves, in the Palladium games, once ASC comes onto the scene, RDF effectively takes a back seat and does very little in terms of story?  If this is true, then I'd rather have all of the PCs under one umbrella (ASC with Elinor serving in T.A.S.C. as a Valkyrie test pilot).

Per the Robotech wikia, under Notes and Trivia is this listing

"Although unclear after the retcon brought about by Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles, it seems that the RDF was gutted to provide personnel and resources for the Robotech Expeditionary Force (REF). The Robotech: Roleplaying Game (book number four), published by Palladium Books, makes reference that only two RDF bases did in fact remain on Earth after the departure of the REF. This would be in keeping with the fact that the United Earth Forces would need the Army of the Southern Cross to take over the defense of Earth after the Pioneer Mission left.

In the novels the RDF became the Global Military Police as part of inter-faction rivalries."

Now, I don't know a great deal about Shadow Chronicles, but otherwise, is this information correct, folks?

I was just saying that Elinor was a RDF pilot since her character sheet came from a Macross era book.  If you say she's TASC too, I'm good with it, and I can edit my post if you wish.

-Psychie.  Oh, I understand.  Edit if you'd like to.  =)

-All.  I will have a (big and fun) post up tomorrow.  Take care until then!  =)

Thanks, Psychie!

-All.  In yet another minor change, now that I've gone and named the destroid squadron (the Grim Reapers, really named after no one in particular), I now realize I'd like to give them another name instead (the Ghost Riders - in honor of the book written by Neil Peart of Rush, Ghost Rider).  That is, unless you guys want it as a squad name.  If so, I'll find something else to name them.  =)

Sorry for another change!  But in other news, I should have this big, fun post up within the hour.  =)

Well, unless we have a npc in the team, we could be the Four Horsemen.

This post of mine tops 3,000 words...  It's taken about 3 hours to write and edit.  It must be record for me, but now I've got all of that part of the story out of my head and on the screen!  Wooo!

Enjoy and bring a drink and snack.  Good times await!  =)

Hah!  You gotta love Mario!  =)  Sherwood sez, "Mario stared straight ahead, silently arguing with his ankle to embrace the pain and deal with it, because when the CSM calls his name, by God he will be running into position."  I just love Mario's determination!  =)

Sherwood sez, "Wait.  Oh, crap crap crap!  The Colonel is asking ME what we should do?!?!  What do I say?"    This.  =)  I love it!  Sherwood, you have made it no secret on RP Nation that you have Real Life military experience.  To those of us who don't, would you be so kind as to describe why Mario, a corporal, is feeling this way toward a colonel?  I mean, we can easily see which character is higher in the chain of command, but what does that mean exactly for someone like Mario?  His feelings seem to go beyond the "Oh no, my high school teacher is calling on me in class" feeling.  Why?  What specifically is going through his head?  =)

I can only comment on how I felt as a lowly private in the Army when confronted by the sight of an officer.  There is a mix of awe, respect, and a healthy dose of fear that ran through my soul when an officer came into view.  Not the same as the hard-assed Drill Sergeants, but you could look at them and see that they had come through the crucible and come out stronger than ever, making them worthy of wearing the rank and leading men and women into harms way.  I never had any frequent interaction with the higher ups, but I did rub elbows a few times with Capt. Cruz, and I met our Brigade Commander once during an inspection.

When you take into the effect of Mario's "vision" of knowing the Colonel, there is a level of fatherly respect that is added into the mix, wanting to prove himself to the older officer, showing him that some day, he might just be as well respected as an officer (or NCO; there is no shame in the rank of Sergeant, after all) as he is.

Toph does her best to keep the level of disgust down as the two soldiers are practically getting into a fight to see who would be the one to cover up Lt. Mackenzie with their coats when she is already covered up by the coat of that giant of a man with the crazy last name.  Since it wasn't Zentraedi, it was all Greek to her.  When the Colonel starts to try and interject his comments in between the two bickering troopers, a chill runs up her spine.  I can hear the irritation in his voice; don't those idiots know that they are dancing on a land mine?  Shut up already!  Too late.  Colonel Sharp dismisses the two of them with a level of disgust that she can't fault.  They were hardly acting in a way that marks them for enrollment in . . . whatever this special unit is.  Her assessment of the Colonel has just gone up a notch.

I see what you did there.  Funny!

- All.  Dannigan sez, "Not one person moved."  I just want to point out that when I type something like that, I'm referring to NPCs only.  You guys are always welcome to roleplay your characters however you choose.  I'm sure you know this; I just have to say it having come to the realization that what I had typed could have been misconstrued to mean, "Not one person moved including the Player-Characters."  This is not the case and I just have to mention it (even if you guys already know).  =)

Cap'n sez, " Then CSM Powers returned, trailed by the GMPs..."  Heya, good Cap'n!  I need to point out - this line is incorrect; the Eglin Military Police present are not GMPs.  It should also be noted that the GMP are not present at this assembly (including among the recruits).

Per the 2nd Edition Robotech Masters Sourcebook, "The Global Military Police is a combination of internal ASC police force, international police and espionage organization."  (Bold mine.)  My understanding is (and correct me if I'm wrong, please!), the GMP are highly-trained "super-cops" out there to specifically take on big bad guys like the Anti-Unification League and the Malcontents (all enemies of the United Earth Government).  In my game, the Eglin ASC Military Police are a more "mundane" (for lack of better word) branch of law enforcement typical to every ASC base out there.  When in doubt, the ASC Military Police answer to the GMPs (especially in cases of anti-UEG espionage, etc.).

Put another way, if Mackenzie had been chased by the GMPs instead of the MPs, only God knows what the result would have been.  =)

Would you edit your post to reflect this, please?  =)
