News & Updates PSA: Why We Don't Allow Erotic Roleplaying

So now i pose another question, isn't there a way to make it so that one uses their facebook account in order to sign up on RPN?

or, would it be easier to just make a more mature section, and put an age lock on it. It would involve:

Age restriction on members who are under 21, Making profiles on RPN that are under 21 unable to access the part.
Anyone not a member cannot view it regardless of their age unless they become a member.

Of course, one could make a new profile but doesn't RPN only allow one per IP address? (i only seen one site that is like this surprisingly)

Not that I really care about this stuff, of course i have some characters that have a certain personality that sometimes talk certain things, but i keep it largely PG.
And like I mentioned before, I don't really write erotic stuff, i can make some innuendos, but I suck at writing romance stuff.

anyway, pretty sure there are issues with even what I put in here so dont try killing me about it yet.

Facebook can't prove a person's age either.  There would be no point.  The same goes for the lock.  When I joined my first online site, I lied about my age in order to join.  People do that all of the time.  That's essentially what Iwaku has.  Their erotic section is hidden from the public and only viewable by users 18 years and older.  RpN allows for users to have multiple accounts but the infractions made against each account is  combined.

TL;DR managing erotic content entails a shitton of rules and regulations, and it's more efficient to lay down a blanket rule "no sexytiemz" than to try and overcome the anonymity of the internet.

Wait, so I can't be a horny creep and have a sexual RP with a minor and express my sexual fetishes? Damn RPN I thought you were cool SMH.

If you actually thought I was being serious with the thing above you need mental help. But in all seriousness I'm glad that you posted this.

This is a load of bullshit. Other large forum RP sites allow erotic roleplaying with absolutely no problem. Just look at Iwaku.

This sort of censorship is why I won't participate here.

Not really. You can think what you wish, though.

We aren't forcing you to participate here if you don't agree with our terms of service (may I add that they don't just protect the site, but YOU as the users in particular, from being sent to prison.)

To be fair personally I agree with it, I don't see a problem with getting rid of erotic roleplaying. There are many sites dedicated to that so go use them. They aren't banning it for everything just this site, if you want to do it go somewhere else?

I have a question- what if the Rp is between two friends and the actual "smut" is conducted not with the other participants but by characters you create to interact with your own character?

This is still engaging with other members in a sexual activity.  It is not allowed.

mmmk thanks for the clarification. just to be perfectly clear, is romantic rping allowed, ones that have no actual content that could legally be considered "sexual"

Yes, to an extent, romantic roleplaying is allowed.  Writer's are allowed to show holding hands, hugging, kissing, etc.  All writing, images, etc, should avoid content that explains or shows physical contact with sexual body parts, including but not limited to the vagina, penis, and breasts.

thanks for the responses: will keep all this in mind. if your ever interested in reading my rp, lemme know lol

would it be acceptable to do a fade out? Because i defiantly don't want to do smut but kissing and then black out to avoid the scene completely and just skip to morning?

its really good that most of these roleplays are pg 13 and allow fade to black moments, however, it is true that there are minors on this site, and minors tend to read them no matter what their age is. Is good to protect them and the creator of the site from any legal issues.

There is a way to find out a person's age though it might be a bit...difficult if you can't get the proper software. There's this app called "After School" that uses a scan of your state issued ID (or license) barcode to prove your age which faking such is difficult and illegal on the part of the person trying to fake their ID so...just an idea if y'all see this and want to check it out. :P

This is a bit much, as  it is pretty intrusive. You say that you can scan your bar code and then it validates that the information you provided was indeed correct. When to me, this seems quite flawed as there is a huge amount of personal security at stake if this were to be hack and someone knew how to develop software to read in interpret such information, or simply hack the databases this information is stored (think of all the confidential information hacks that have happened in recent years).

RPN has already stated they will not allow erotic content because even if there was a way to prove without a doubt someone is as old as they claim to be on registration, there would be too much to regulate in those forums. I personally like that there is no erotic content here. To me, that is both boring, gross that people want to post stuff like that. Without erotica, this is a much more friendly and welcoming site.

@The Dark Wizard

I'm sure it's already been brought up but if it hasn't...

What about writing up a consent form or something similar as far as terms and agreements go?

Basically having a multiple option for the terms of service/agreements...

So it would go as follows... you have your regular acceptance box for 13 or older, and then have a drop down menu asking if the user would like to participate in "NSFW" content. If they click "yes" they also have to check a box that says something along the lines of "I have agreed that I am 18 years or older and have read, and agree to the terms of service".

This would not only protect RPN from legal backlash, but also allow for more flexibility. A filtering system could automatically be put on peoples accounts that they have to physically "enable" NSFW content. Much like deviantart or other platforms/website... vaping websites have them to verify legal smoking age, etc. I'm quite sure there is something that can be implemented.

EDIT: Adding to the original reply... Users would solely be responsible for filtering their content, images and other posts would have a choice to "consider this NSFW?". If they don't follow the rules, they get the proper punishment. Of course this means more work for the moderators but I'm sure the ones who are wanting this feature would be willing to pitch in and help with the moderation/enforcement.

I know I am not The Dark Wizard, but I do know that the suggested method still does not erase the fact that we still do not want RpNation to host any erotic roleplaying what so ever.  And it still does not void the fact that it is impossible to track down anyone's real age.  While it may place more responsibility on the user's end, it also still doesn't get rid of the site's liability for the content it has on the site.  RpNation is a public forum.  There shouldn't have to be restricted sections.

Well written. People complaining about the rules on this website are being pretty narrow minded, just in general. Public forums are -not- for interactive writing of a sexual nature. While there are times where RP heads in X direction, this is a public setting. It would be like standing in a large crowd of people and talking about how you're going to rail each other in the bathroom at McDonald's.

Okay maybe that's a bit dramatic. Still.

If you absolutely HAVE TO HAVE some erotic role play with your partner, do it in private and not on the website at your OWN risk.
