Graded [Kronum Village] Here Be Dragons

Gamatsu's arrow zoomed through the air and...hit it's mark? He'd raise an eyebrow if he had one, but he settled for a quick whistle instead. He was impressed, though not with his shot, but with the dragon's ability to shrug off his attack like it was nothing. For something that had much to say, it uttered no words and simply turned it's back at Gamatsu.

At that moment, any further hostilities were no longer needed. Both Gamatsu and the dragon would've went their separate ways. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Whether it was his pride that stemmed from Galahad as a knight or Matsu's fickly personality as a player, there was no denying that Gamatsu's ego was a bit bruised.

Taking aim and still in position, Gamatsu wondered why someone would turn their back to another when an arrow was pointed at them. Shrugging his shoulders briefly, Gamatsu let loose a second arrow, aimed at the base of the dragon's neck, close to where it met it's torso. Unlike his first one, this one was a bit more defined and solid.

As his arrow flew, Gamatsu took a step forward before preparing for a third shot.

Ability Used:
  • Snipe + Seeker + Piercing Shot – Archery God D, Penetrate F, Homing F, Range F - Gamatsu lets loose a far reaching magical arrow that pierces armors and items of similar or lesser grade. It can track and follow its target. If it still misses, it persists briefly and tries one more time before fading/missing again – Grade D – 2 Post Cooldown

Hinkiro could have walked off that first arrow. Probably. If had not been for his injuries at Lanost, he probably would have been fine to walk off a second. This, however, was not the case. Wounds did add up over time, especially when when did not receive proper healing.

The head of the arrow penetrated the back of Hinkiro's neck. Sinking in a good quarter of the way down the shaft. It had missed the vertebrae, but it still had penetrated pass the scales and well into meat.

Thigs began to grow black for Hinkiro before he could even utter a sound. He stumbled forward one last step before collapsing. Falling forward into an undignified slump. The blood from his chest had left a small trail, though with him being still it now collected with what now flowed from his neck. Making a noticeable dark patch on the forest floor.

The goblin had appeared. As if from nowhere, and the forest itself seem to writhe and bend at its command. From the ground erupted a patch of brambles between the dragon and the armored archer. The leaves made it difficult to see through, and the thorns were like wicked hooks that after one look someone could be sure that they would snag anything that might try to force their way through it. The patch itself came up as high as ones head, and easily two stride in diameter.

On Gamatsu's end of the patch of thorns, a glint would catch his eye. Nestled om the outside of the thorns was a glossy black scale, half red with blood, and a hole, which a single thorn stuck through to hold it aloft. It was the scale that his arrow had pierced, having fallen to the ground when Hinkiro had ripped out the arrow.

Vlad was making his way towards the horrible sound, mainly to find out what sort of creature could make such terrible sound. As he carefully made his way towards he came upon a camp site with a knight and a dragon. 'Holy shit, It's the dragon!' He thought as he ducked lower into the underbrush. He watched from a bit away as the dragon to his surprise seemed to be trying to converse with the human, though he was to far away to really hear them.He had meet a few humans and in his experience they weren't nice in this world so, he was less surprised when the human shot at the dragon. 'And now the dragon ea- walks away?' He thought to himself as the big creature simply tried to walked away. He saw the dragon pull the arrows out and the blood that gushed from the wound. He then watched as the human drew back his bow once more and fire'd at the dragons now turned back. This enraged Vlad as he had seen the dragon try to deal with things peacefully. Vlad with out thinking launched himself from the underbrush and towards the conflict. His eyes flashed a vibrant green as he rushed forward. He stopped in front of the dragons and slammed the butt of his staff into the ground and willed the forest to his aid. The grass and plant life in front of the human burst to life as it grew rapidly and blocked his line of sight. The once humble growth was now as thick around as a wrist and several feet long. "You stupid human, he was trying to end things peacefully!" Vlad yelled as he poured his wrath into the ground. This caused the grass to grow small hooked barbs. He then turned to the wounded dragon keeping himself between the dragon and the threat. "I'll try and steam the bleeding." He said as he tore a sizeable chuck of cloth from his robes and pressed it against the wounds.
  • Entangle E-Magic Affinity E + Nature Affinity F- A small area that the user targets adjacent to them bursts forth with plant growth, if a creature is there it may become entangled and take minor damage. Affects a five foot square. Cool down 1

As Vlad knew it would, the forest heeded his call for aid. And a barrier of vicious thorns sprouted between him and the dragon, and the archer. He knew it wouldn't be hard to go around, but it would certainly buy some time and help against a third attack of one came. Almost as if responding to the anger in Vlad's voice, the thorns seemed to sharpen as he spoke.

At the side of the dragon, Vlad could immediately feel that it was breathing. Though its eyes were barely open, he was pretty sure that didn't necessarily mean that it was awake. They seemed to twitch slightly, as if teetering in the edge of blacking out completely.

The wound in the dragon's chest would have been hard to reach... needing to have to roll the dragon over. However, judging from the blood that began to create mud around his feet, Vlad would be fairly certain that the neck wound was the biggest injury. He had only a moment to worry a out lulling out the arrow. It seemed to vanish in a puff of smoke shortly after it had struck. A magic arrow...

While the hole was small, it was deep. Trying to staunch the flood of blood certainly seemed to be a good idea. Well... at least the dragon seemed to have a lot of blood.

Juliet Aramathia

The journey was one Juliet wasn't particularly worried about. Transporting refugee's to a safe place. This assignment was beneficiary to the church. It was humanitarian in nature, but it was also to spread the churches influence across the land. Letting those in need know that they were a safe space.

As such, Juliet was the perfect escort. Just her presence was enough to inspire Faith. The powerful, chiseled build of her marble like wings. The shine of her azure eyes and monochromatic presence made her seem otherworldly and people flocked to her. Even those among the church, that had seen her since she was little, were in awe of her. Beauty and purpose that seemed so far beyond them. Her visage both adored and worshipped.

Traveling through the forests of Ryken was little more than a stroll for her. Of course there was the odd goblin to slay, but nothing too out of the way. Mostly, she just stood guard, ignoring the refugees as they needed time to heal and process their time in this new circumstance. However, the small children of the families were keen to meet her. When they had an opportunity, they would come and speak with her, play on her wings and ask questions. Despite her cold and distant style, she never seemed to mind. She would move her wings and play with the children, answer their questions and just distract them from the cruel realities of the world. Of course their parents were a bit skeptical. Despite her angelic form, she was still so unbelievably shut off. However, seeing that despite this she was still so warm to the kids, they eventually grew to trust that the children were safe with her.

On the final day of the journey, Juliet walked ahead of the caravan, spear pointed to the ground. The refugees tucked safely into the wagon. The other two guards stationed at the rear on either side. Juliet kept her solemn gaze locked on the woman she assumed to be the Mayor that she was informed about. Her grip tightened on her spear, stopping just ahead of her. Her wings extend, stopping the group in it's tracks. Her emotionless gaze falling to Mayor Anna. After taking a moment to quietly scan the area, her gaze returned to the Mayor "I am Juliet Aramathia. Escort chosen by the church to bring refugee's here. You are Mayor Anna, correct?" She seemed relaxed, but her spear was ready. Learning from her past life never to trust blindly.

From Vlads vantage from behind the thicket of brambles, he could see little beyond it aside from the shadows of a figure on the other side through the thorns and the leaves and the branches. Approaching the brambles and reaching into them. A small glint of reflection could be seen before vanishing.

Shadows, and then nothing. The only sign of movement now being the gentle sway of the plants that had not come to a complete rest after being summoned.

Nothing. The forest quiet. The armored figure gone, leaving just the goblin and the dragon, for now. There was no telling who or what could show up next.

(As a heads up, we will be continuing without Gamatsu for this rp.)

Izaak
Ryken Forest. Interactions: D. Rex D. Rex Dr.Sturgeon Surgeon Dr.Sturgeon Surgeon

Compared to the main trade roads of Ryke, the great forests leading up towards the mountains on its eastern flank were a much more peaceful sort of area. Before he’d left civilization behind, Izaak had managed to procure a jacket and pair of pants which, though perhaps a little small on his large frame, certain did much to help keep him feeling cozy in the much cooler climate of the region. This area was monster territory, and they often weren’t too keen on interlopers, but Izaak did his best to keep a lookout for the telltale markings of claimed turf left by the more sentient monsters, and, well, always kept his bow and spear close at hand for the more bestial sort. As a Wolven, this sort of scenery where he was the most at home.

Today was a day that had begun not unlike many others. He’d broken camp, collected his belongings, and set off again. Generally speaking, his route had taken him closer and closer to the mountains, though he wasn’t really moving with any particular destination in mind. The occasional human villages he passed through typically weren’t all that keen on seeing him, but they put up with if when he brought the results of a day’s hunt to sell in return for lodgings and some meager additions to his belongings. He’d done fairly well on that latter front, having put together a respectable little first aid kit, at least for dealing with injuries at least.

Honestly, were it not for his desires granted from his original human life, this was probably the sort of life he’d’ve ended up living. It was simple, but fulfilling. But, honestly, left him alone with his thoughts a bit too much for his liking. Fortunately – or, perhaps unfortunately – the Wolven seemed to have a way about blundering into trouble. In today’s case, trouble announced its presence in the form of a shout, echoing through the forest.

"You stupid human, he was trying to end things peacefully!"

His ears flicked in the direction of the shout, followed in turn by his head, and then the rest of his body. At the time, he’d been in the middle of attempting to hunt, and had his bow and an arrow in hand. Now he felt his grip tightening on both. For the briefest of moments, he considered letting well enough alone and not getting himself involved. But, then he remembered what had happened at Wendy’s, the old racist, and how the brute had tried to kill a few people just for not being human. So instead, he steeled his nerves, and hurried off in the direction of the voice.

He could smell the blood before he came across the scene. When he broke through the brush, bow in hand, the first thing he saw was the dragon. It was small, for a dragon, though still roughly the size of a horse. A pool of blood was forming underneath it, though from his angle he could not see the dragon’s wounds. Next to catch his eye was a goblin, dressed in long black robes with a similarly colored, tall conical hat. No sign of any human, perhaps the goblin had driven them off?

“Aah, I’m friendly!” Izaak said, making a show of putting his arrow back in his quiver and slipping the bow around his torso. He held up his paws so the goblin could see them, and took a careful step towards the dragon. “How badly is the dragon wounded? Maybe I can help, I have a few things in my bag.”

God, he really hoped it had been the goblin yelling earlier, since otherwise there was no guarantee it could understand what he was saying. Izaak wasn’t able to speak any of the goblin tongues, so if there was a language barrier between the two of them that would make things a lot harder.

Vlad had been trying to stop the blessing when he heard something moving towards them at speed. He watched as some kind of bipedal wolf broke into the cleaning. Vlad was about to go for his staff when the wolf spoke "Aah, I’m friendly!." He said as it put away his bow and held up his paws. "How badly is the dragon wounded? Maybe I can help, I have a few things in my bag." Vlad hesitated a second as he looked the newcomer over. "Well come on and help me then, some human tried to turn him into a pin cushion. And kinda succeeded." He said as he looked down at the blood soaked rag that used to be a part of his robe. "He's bleeding pretty bad. He's got two deep wounds, chest and neck, neck is the worst. I'm trying to stop it but it ain't going too well." Vlad said as he kept the cloth pressed against the neck wound. He hoped the furry new comer actually knew what he was doing because other than trying to stop the bleeding he sure didn't. "You know I wasn't expecting this to be my first experience with a dragon." He said with a nervous chuckle.

Great, the goblin could, in fact, speak his language. That made things a whole lot easier, Izaak dropped his paws back to his sides and hustled over to the dragon’s side. He noticed the neck wound almost immediately, seeping blood. Judging by its location, it highly suggested the dragon had been shot from behind. Back when Izaak used to be human, stories with the aesop of ‘humans being the real monsters’ had always seemed quaint, if not contrived. Honestly, the longer he lived in this world though, the more he found himself in agreement with it. He dropped his bag, and pulled out a latched wooden box, which was in turn opened to reveal an assortment of cloths and bottles.

Okay, deep breath Izaak. Thank good his Wolven lifestyle had long since prepared him for the sight of blood and gore. He removed his gloves and set them aside. From one of the bottles, he poured a bit of saline solution into his paw, and used some of his soap to give his paws a quick scrub. Then he stepped forward to examine the neck wound – the dragon was currently laying on its front, preventing him from getting at the chest wound.

“This is my first time dealing with a dragon, too,” he said with a nervous grin of his own, “This neck injury is bad, I hope nothing’s been too damaged internally. For now, I’m going to try stitches, but if it keeps bleeding like this, we might need to cauterize it. Hopefully this big guy has a lot of blood left.”

Right, process. First, clean the wound; this was easily accomplished with application of more saline solution and soap. Next, from the second bottle, he poured a bit of something that smelled distinctly alcoholic on a pad of linen, and held this to the wound. If the dragon was still conscious at this point, this would likely burn, but as far as proper antiseptics went, ethyl alcohol was Izaak’s best option. The soiled pad was then tossed away, and a similar alcohol-dampened pad was used to wipe down a needle and length of thread. A few chunks of scales around the wound also had to be carefully cut away to give the needle an easier time piercing.

The actual process of stitching took the longest, and by the end of it Izaak’s paws were fairly well caked in blood. The needle was cut loose and the thread tied off – though lacking any more precise instruments, this task had to be done carefully with Izaak’s larger survival knife again. This done, Izaak followed up with another quick paw wash, before pressing another length of linen to the stitched wound, and wrapped a length of gauze around the dragon’s neck to hold it in place. Hopefully that would hold at least until they could find a trained doctor or magical healer.

“There, that’s not the cleanest, but it should do for now,” he said, more to himself than anything else. Next up was the chest wound, thankfully the dragon was still pretty small, so Izaak was able to carefully roll him onto his side. This was an awkward angle to work at, but with the dragon’s wings in the way there was no good way for Izaak to get him on his back. So, he’d simply have to make do.

This wound had been in long contact with the ground, and so Izaak took extra care to try and scrub and disinfect this one. Then the process of cutting, stitching, and dressing was repeated. Though, lacking any sort of adhesive, the Wolven did end up having to wrap a band of gauze over the dragon’s shoulder, under his opposite arm, and carefully above both wings. It looked ridiculous but, hopefully, it would do. Or at least, it was the best Izaak could do given his skills and the materials he had readily available to him.

“Okay, I think that’ll hold,” he said to the Goblin, standing up and stretching from where he’d been crouched at the dragon’s front. “Moving him wouldn’t be smart, but I hate to leave him exposed here. Either way, we’ll have to keep an eye on him, his wounds may still need cauterized, and even if they don’t, those dressings will need changed eventually.”

Then he probably turned to face his new companion, “I’m Izaak by the way, sorry I didn’t catch your name earlier.”

Vlad backed up as the the wolf man got to work and watched as he started to carefully sew and bandage the dragons wounds. He saw how skillfully the newcomer patched and cleaned the wounds before he cleaned off his paws and introduced himself. Apparently his name was Izaak. "Vladimir, but you can just call me Vlad. Thanks for the help. It seems you really know your first aid." He said as looked around for something to wipe his own bloody hands on before shrugging and just wiping them on his robes. "I think we should be good here for a little bit, and if not...well I have a trick or two up my sleeve."He said as he nodded towards the large patch of overgrowth that was even now slowly shifting under Vlad's magic, though much slower than when it first sprouted. He looked back over to the wounded form of the dragon he'd only a short while ago set out to find and found himself at a loss. His plan had been to follow it and scavenge what he could from it's left overs if it attacked a village. He let out a small chuckle as he thought of the absurdity of it a dragon being saved by a goblin, huh not even that a psudo-goblin. 'The world has a twisted since of humor.' He thought to himself as he fished into his pouch and pulled out a puffball and bit in causing it to send out a small burst of spores. "Sooo.....while we wait for our scaly friend to wake from his nap. I got to ask, what are you?" He asked between bites of his messy, but tasty snack. "I've seen some crazy lookin folk but nothing like you, no offense meant.

Once his paws were a reasonable approximation of dry, he got to work packing away all his things again. The goblin, who introduced himself as Vladimir, had some skill with nature magic, taking credit for a patch of overgrowth that, now that Izaak was looking at it closely, did appear to have sprung up in the middle of an otherwise well used path – presumably a game trail of some description. While the Wolven fully believed the Goblin about being able to keep them safe from outside interlopers, Izaak was more than a little concerned that, once the dragon woke up, it would be more than a little irritated. In which case, best to at least be able to attempt a speedy getaway.

“Never seen a Wolven this far northeast?” He asked in response to Vladimir’s question, looking up from his packing at the mushroom eating Goblin, “We roam the forests in the countries south of here. I guess the humans form a pretty effective wall dissuading most of my people from heading this far into Ryke.”

With his first aid kit packed up and put away, and his gloves back on his paws, Izaak next procured a small leather bound notebook and an even smaller sack containing sticks of charcoal – it wasn’t often one had a chance to study a dragon, and he’d made a few visual observations worth noting down while he’d been working. Plus, they might have quite a long wait ahead of them. He sat down with his back against a tree, with his bag placed next to him – easily within reach if he needed to bolt – and started sketching the slumbering creature before him.

“How about you? Seems fairly rare to see a Goblin Shaman wandering around without escort,” Izaak asked while he doodled, “At least, I’m guessing you’re a shaman, what with the magic and all. Your skills must be in high demand with all the tribes around here; control over plants in a forest like this?”

"Yeah I'm a shaman, but let's just say most goblins and me don't see eye to eye." He said as he finished his snack. "Apparently I'm not quite goblin enough for them. I apparently smell off to them. This is usually overlooked by chiefs because of my magic, but the others......well lets just say they ain't the most accepting." He thought of all the disdain he'd felt from his last tribe. Always feeling like an outsider. He shook his head to clear his thoughts. "As for our big scaly friend, he seemed pretty level headed. I mean he go shot in the chest and instead of turning the guy into lunch he tried to walk off." He said as he sat across from the wolven and shook his head. Seeing as he seemed to be settling in for a bit of a wait Vlad decided to do something productive. He grabbed a thick but short stick from the ground near by and looked it over a bit before nodding and taking out a leather roll. opening it raveled couple simple well cared for if a bit worn tools. He held the wood between his knees to keep it steady as he pulled out a knife and started carving away to try and get it down to the proper size. His hands were steady and precise as he carved away the bark. After the bark was gone and he switched out his knife for a smaller one, as he did so he let his magic slowly trickle out and into the wood.

Regula
Mentions: Kaida Howl Howl

Regula couldn't help herself from raising an eyebrow at the newcomer's (Kaida) remarks. Not only was she foiling her plans, or trying to, she was also suggesting they'd go find the dragon together. That was a really tough one to wrap her head around. Was this some beast that had wrapped the villagers up in its plot and was it going to murder her or sacrifice her the moment they were out in the open or was this some naïve girl thinking dragons were fun to sneak up on? Regula regrettably lacked the insight to make out Kaida's motivations.

She did manage to find out something else. Kaida had approached her close enough for her appraisal to work, revealing the girl was a Dragon-Human Hybrid. That was the first thing that stood out. It also put a lot of things in perspective, such as why the girl was against going on a dragon-hunt. Oddly enough, the villagers seemed to not just trust her, but to clearly be fond of her as well. It meant antagonizing her would be a bad move. As such, Regula was trying her best to come up with a middle-ground. Eventually she came up with something.

First of all though, she didn't like that one of them made a good point about missives, but at the same time ended up making the argument as a counter to something she hadn't tried to suggest. “What I meant, is that if you're going to let the dragon retreat to the mountains under the assumption it'll just stay there, I'd like to get anything formal that will help me go after it.” She instantly regretted letting her frustration lead her to be more informal. Slip-ups like this wouldn't bode well for her future plans.

There was one thing they seemed to agree on. “Right, you've got to be prepared. Does that mean you plan to make use of my services as a blacksmith? I fully understand the need to wait for back-up, so I'll have the time to spare until the tracking teams leave.” She wasn't eager to sit around and wait until the back-up arrived, but being able to work the forge to pass the time would be an ideal distraction.

That left the primary issue; the half-dragon girl. Regula merely had the information from her appraisal to go by, which was far too little to come up with anything solid. She would have to ask about it, but struggled on how to phrase the question. Eventually, she settled on an open and direct option, directly addressing Kaida herself. “You're part dragon, aren't you?”

The question wouldn't tell Regula much. She knew the answer already, after all. It was Kaida's reaction and the reaction of this village council that might actual teach her something. Would they openly admit it, would they hide it, would it make them uncomfortable? The girl seemed naïve, so perhaps she'd even spill other information whilst at it. On that note, it was probably best to defuse any tension such a question might cause, so Regula would flash her a disarming smile. “Anyhow, it looks like we'll be working together. I'm Regula. Nice to meet you.”

Mr. Nock shook his head, "As far as I know, there isn't a law on hunting dragons. The only thing to keep you from going after one is self-preservation. Them mountains are a dangerous place. You don't need formal or informal permission. If you want to go into the mountains after you, we aren't going to stop any jacknobs that are fool enough to go with you."

Master Jamin spoke next at Regula's next point. "Normally the dangers come from the east. We have a better view across the hills than we do through the forest, giving us more time to prepare if a giant decides to wander down. If you want to put your talents to use, you can find Mister Barilla and his wife down at the forge. I am sure he would appreciate your help in seeing we have enough spears and bodkin arrows. He will see you paid a fair wage for helping, too."

The woman not too far from her seemed a bit adamant on a hunt - talking about going after the dragon if it didn't stay in the mountains. Or at least, that's how Kaida took what she said. She didn't know how to process what the stranger was saying - but the first reaction was to get a little upset. The other reaction was just appalled. What's the benefit of hunting it? Kaida didn't quite understand the rewards that it may come with. After all, she didn't think of her own kind as possession gifts. Kaida began to chew at her bottom lip to hold back her tongue - worried she may say something out of raw emotion.

The strange lady had then asked about Kaida's blood origin, specifically asking if she was part dragon. Kaida's fingers slowly wrapped around her horns as her face looked a bit pink. She thought it was embarrassing that she was being stared at directed towards her kin features - especially by a stranger. Her attitude took a quick 180 as she thought the woman was being friendly with her. She gave a beaming smile with her fangs showing. "Was it that obvious?" She asked her shyly, her blush still apparent. "I'm Kaida! Nice to meet you! I like your...hair!" Kaida screamed excitedly as she pointed to her head.

Kaida then turned her attention back to the table - where Master Barmie explained that if the dragon became a threat that it would have to be taken out. She sighed. She loved her kin, but also loved the people of the town that took care of her when she had no one. They even thought her how to speak as humans do. She scratched the back of her head in frustration. The only way to win this situation was to make sure that the dragon never leaves the mountains. Could Kaida convince it to? Will it be as nice to her as her original family? Just as there are bad people - there are bad dragons so she wasn't sure.

Mr.Nock gave them a choice - they could go into the forest and look for the dragon, maybe at least hints, or they could wait to see what will progress. Kaida's arm immediately shot up erratically. "I'll go! Into the woods, I'll go!" She screamed as she started to excitedly jump up and down. Even if this dragon turned out to not be what she wants or expects, she hasn't seen one of her own in a while. Nothing would make her happier to at least be in the presence of a dragon again.

Kaida then turned to the woman to see what she would answer. "If you come.. no killing without reason..." She told her as her eyes narrowed at her. Kaida's personality with her was clearly very bipolar, and unpredictable. After all, she had the energy of a village of children. She wanted to become friends with Regula but that was a two person job - and she wasn't sure if the other party was as willing.

Then Regula dropped what she thought would be a bombshell. It certainly seemed to get a reaction out of them, they looked confused and a bit shocked at the accusation. Broad bellied Barmie gave a suspicious look, not at Kaida but at Regula.

"Nonsense. Look at her furry ears. Beastkin, surely. Don't go bandying about accusations like that at a time like this. You might rile up a panic, and that would not be appreciated." He said to Regula sternly. It wasn't hard to see that he felt a bit protective of this girl. Regardless of what she was. And to be labeled a dragon during worry of a dragon attack could end badly.

Mr. Nock shook himself out the bit of shock that Regula threw on them. "You can go, girl. You can go. Just be careful. I'll leave some supplies for you at the stables. This other girl too if she wants to come. Richari's was kind enough to lend us some of her extra horses for this. Be sure they come back hale and hearty. Or you'll be paying for them. If you excuse us, we got teams to ready."

With that, Mr. Nocks stood to leave, Jamin and Tyrrell did as well. Leaving Master Nocks and Master Barmie still sitting at the table.

Regula
Mentions: Kaida Howl Howl

Regula was stunned for a moment. Kaida freely admitting she was part draconic and then complementing Regula's hair, in combination with the immediate denial of Kaida's heritage from one of the townsfolk, took a bit to process. Then it hit her; it was a simple case of lying for the sake of Kaida's safety, with Kaida's own mental capacity being too childish to be able to grasp that concept. Finding a childlike half-dragon protected by a village that was on the verge of going on a dragon-hunt was far beyond expected, but as things were, Regula figured she'd play along with it. The first order of business was getting friendly with the half-dragon girl, which wouldn't be difficult, as she was genuinely adorable. “Thanks, I like your horns, they're cute.” Hopefully that'd also defuse some of the tension she'd created between her and Barmie.

They were soon allowed to go on the exploration team, although Kaida made a demand. It was one that'd be easy to abide by. “Of course not.” Regula would never kill without reason. Trophy-hunting could be a reason though, just like the belief that all dragons are evil, but Regula figured she needn't mention that. Besides, she was starting to wonder about the latter. If half-dragons were this easy-going, perhaps some dragons were as well... a live dragon might also be a lot more worthwhile to have than a dead one. She figured she might have to broaden her perspective a bit and considering options she'd normally not even think about.

“Thanks for the offer, I'll gladly accept it.” Regula said, in response to the offer of supplies and horses. Until those were readied, she figured she'd take up Jamin on his offer and go help out this Mister Barilla. Regula didn't like sitting by idly, after all. She did wonder about Kaida though, so if the girl were to remain around her, she'd attempt to strike up a conversation. “So, if you don't mind me asking, how did you find your way into this town?”

Ryken Forest. Interactions: Dr.Sturgeon Surgeon Dr.Sturgeon Surgeon D. Rex D. Rex

Apparently, despite his prodigious magical talents, Vladimir was something of an outsider in his tribe. Something about his scent marked the Shaman as different from his peers. Izaak, of course, couldn’t even pretend to understand the vast intricacies of goblin society, though he often suspected such communities were far more complex than the average human would give them credit for – and featured no less internal politicking than your average human settlement. Only difference was, by Izaak’s estimation at least, the backstabbing was far less metaphorical when it came to the goblins.

As for the dragon, according to Vladimir it hadn’t even tried to defend itself from its human aggressor. It simply took the chest wound, and then turned to leave when it was then shot in the neck. That had likely been the ‘ending things peacefully’ Izaak had heard Vladimir shouting about. Dragons were feared the world over, so tragic as it was, Izaak could maybe understand the chest wound as a ‘shoot first, as questions later’ response to the simple sight of one. The fact that it had been followed up on by a second, clearly unprovoked blow to the neck though, after the dragon had clearly turned away to show its lack of hostility, was unforgivable. Even worse, there would likely be no justice in this instance. The human had left unscathed, and human assaults against the so-called lesser races – the beastfolk, fae, and especially the monsters – were rarely prosecuted.

“I have seen much of the way the humans of Ryke are allowed to act,” Izaak said, somberly, “Even how quickly they get away with attempting to injure or kill those like us, or even their fellow humans should they stand up for us.”

Izaak frowned deeply, once again remembering the old racist he’d had the misfortune to encounter on the road to the capital. How the man had thrown tables and chairs, how he’d attacked not only Izaak and a Fae patron of the tavern they had all been at, but also a human noble and the soldiers under the employ of another such lord. His punishment? A cup of hot cocoa and a metaphorical pat on the head. No, there was no justice in Ryke. That encounter, more than anything, had turned Izaak off his original course, away from the capital and towards the periphery of the country. But it seemed the people here were no better than those near the center of the country.

The wolven shook his head, and got back to his sketching and note taking. He wasn’t a great artist by any stretch of the imagination, but these were his private notes, so he’d be the only one seeing them anyway. And it seemed like Vladimir had taken up woodcarving in the time Izaak had been sulking. The wolven refocused on the task at hand, wanting to get down as much as he could before the dragon awoke. Still, he didn’t want to leave the conversation on such a dour note, so he spoke up again, this time trying to inject a little humor into his voice.

“Suffice to say, if you find yourself walking the main trade route to Ryken, and pass by a tavern by the name of Wendy’s… Keep walking.”

Vladimir paused his work at the familiar sounding name. 'Huh.....maybe, nah what are the chances.' He thought before giving a chuckle and continued working on the totem. "I'll take your word for it. But I tend to stay away from populated areas." He said as he finished the general cylindrical shape. He then picked up a tool that resembled an ice pick and started on the details. With each line carved more of his magic filled the totem giving it a greenish hue, like the wood it's self was still alive. As Vlad weaved magic into his craft and talked with Izaak a small smile crept onto his lips. He hadn't realized how much he missed having real conversations. Sure the chief had known a decent amount of common but he wasn't the best conversationalist. He glanced over to the wolven. "And not just to avoid the other 'higher races'" He said his voice oozing sarcasm. "I just don't fell right in those 'civilized' places. The just feel off, like there missing something." He knew it was probably because of his magic and its connection to nature. "But enough about me where'd you learn first aid like that?" He asked as he started to put the finishing touches on the totem. The start of what looked to be a massive tree with all kinds of animals and monsters resting in and under its branches.

Vladimir spoke of a hesitation the goblin had when it came to visiting civilization. It went beyond the goblin’s desire to avoid humans – who naturally would not take kindly to a goblin’s presence. Rather, by Vladimir’s estimation, there was something missing in the cities. Izaak, naturally, was able to guess that it had something to do with the tendency of urban areas to stamp out the natural world as much as they could. The wolven could only imagine how badly such a thing would effect someone so in tune with nature as Vladimir. Still, in his experience at least, life was always able to find a way.

Izaak had always been enamored with at least the idea of cities. Places where one could be anonymous in the crowd, where everything you needed was in walking distance, or just a trip on public transportation away. Places where there was always something going on, if you knew where to go and what to look for. Places where you didn’t have to worry so much about there being enough money to fund public services, schools, libraries, buses and trains… Hospitals. But, in his previous life, his lungs had always been particularly susceptible to air pollution, and so he’d been forced to live somewhere far more isolated, and increased Izaak’s reliance on books.

Which brought him to the goblin’s follow up question, and why Izaak presently found himself having a hard time answering. The truth was, a lot of that knowledge came from his previous life, where, much like much else in his life, basic first aid was something he’d learned the theory of inside and out from some guidebook or other he’d studied to pass the time. In practice, though, the dragon had been his first practical application of that knowledge barring a few cuts and scrapes of his own that he’d self treated, none of which even came close to comparing to the dragon’s own injuries. But he couldn’t exactly come out and say ‘I read about it in a book once, in a previous life’ without sounding like an absolute lunatic or worse, so he needed to find a different answer.

“Wolven packs are expected to be largely self sufficient,” was what he eventually settled on. This wasn’t a lie in and of itself. Wolven packs were extended family units, and lived a semi-nomadic lifestyle, so everyone had to be able to pull their own weight and contribute. Children especially were expected to learn everything they could so that they could support themselves should they choose set out on their own, as Izaak had. “My family taught me many things when I was a child.”

Rindo.png When Noah had been promised adventure and an opportunity to live in a new fantastical world free of his previous responsibilities and afflictions he had been understandably excited. What teenage boy wouldn't? Noah had imagined all sorts of things magic, dragons and elves. He would become a hero loved by everyone free to adventure all over the world, and maybe, just maybe he would finally get a girlfriend! Despite the guilt of leaving his family and friends behind here he was finally free! And he had resolved himself to enjoy himself as much as possible. New opportunities, unique and interesting people, magical powers, a hero's journey surely these were all waiting for him. So, why? "WHY HAVE I BEEN WANDERING THESE WOODS FOR TWO DAYS!"
Noah screamed to the heavens his clothes covered in dirt and grime, with small splotches of blood. His hair had twigs and leaves in it and had dulled in color. His expensive white sneakers, his brand name sweater, his sick ass jacket! All ruined. Noah complained to himself as he wandered the woods unsure of what direction he was even going in. His stomach grumbled loudly showing how empty it was. He hadn't eaten since he got to this world and it was beginning to affect him. He was getting slower and more tired. He could have eaten a day ago since the strange man who kept appearing had killed a rabbit that got too close and bared its teeth at him. "But it was raw I tried but how can I be expected to eat raw meat! Christ I wish I knew how to make a fire I thought you just rubbed rocks together..." Noah had wasted hours trying to make that fire... As Noah continued his self pitying the invisible man appeared once again and looked at him as it followed close to him. Noah glared over at the man, but was met by an impassive expression. "Geez weirdo won't even talk to me but you follow me around everywhere. You may have saved me from that monster but don't think I owe you anything. I'm just letting you tag along that's all." He knew by now he wouldn't get a response the man hadn't made a peep ever since they first met. He would just kill anything that threatened Noah(which was pretty cool he admitted) or would appear and stare at him before disappearing again.

As he continued his long trudge through the forest he was met with a break in the trees he walked through and was briefly overwhelmed by the light no long obstructed by the forest canopy. His eyes adjusted and Noah found himself on the side of a dirt road. He blearily looked down at it before slowly turning his head from left to right looking at both direction the road traveled. "*sigh* Well this is a start I'm sure if I follow this I'll find a city right? Maybe a food stand, that would be nice." He once again looked left to right unsure of which direction to travel so he just picked randomly and made his slow march down the road. Not too long after Noah started to crest a hill and when he reached the top he saw a small village some way away. His hunched exhausted form suddenly straightened and his eyes went wide, he summoned up the last of his strength and ran as fast he could to the village. He was panting heavily as he made his way to the village gates. Sweat poured down his face as he dry heaved the exhaustion overwhelming him, the only reason he hadn't vomited was due to the lack of anything to vomit out. Then he finally reached it he slowly made his way in front of the quaint village dirty and pitiable as he was. Running up to the first person he saw barely even registering anything about them. "Hey, ya got any food. And maybe a place to sleep..." With those words he collapsed.

Kaida smiled as she watched a strange tension go on about in front of her regarding her kinship. She dared her eyes back and forth as they were denying her dragon blood. One of her ears twitched as Barmie had talked about them. She didn't quite understand what was going on - nor did she have the attention span to attempt to figure it out. As the conversation went on, she started to get bored as there was less and less talk of the dragon. She slid her tongue against her teeth inside of her mouth as she waited for them to finish their discussion.

The chat ended up coming to an end once the girls were told to wait for horses to be prepared. Though Kaida's never rode a horse, it couldn't be too hard. Right? She nodded to Barmie as he dismissed them. Kaida peered her eyes out the window, wondering what she was going to do until everything was set. She already did her routine of helping the townsfolk. Maybe she'd go to the outskirts of town and play with the fish in the stream.

However, Kaida snapped out of her daydreaming of fish once Regula asked her, "“So, if you don't mind me asking, how did you find your way into this town?” Kaida smiled as her right hand went to the back of her head and began to scratch it. "Well.. good question. Not sure. Woke up outside of town - no memory of how." She told the girl, her eyes looking a bit sad as she began to think of her past family. She really had no idea how she ended up here, or why. In her heart, she believed that maybe her dragon kin may even be on some parts of these lands. "And you? Do you live here? With the towns people?" She asked as she put her arm back down to her side.

Kaida's reply took Regula by a bit of surprise. No memory? Perhaps... Regula wondered if Kaida was also from another 'world' altogether, like she herself been. It wouldn't be an unlikely scenario, but would be likely? She wasn't sure. That said, Regula couldn't help laugh a bit at the return question. She felt more out of place than ever in this town, but Kaida clearly hadn't noticed that. “No, I'm from the big city. The capital Ryken, to be exact. There are a lot more people there and they're a fair bit different from the ones here.”

Somehow, talking to Kaida made her automatically take on a bit of a different tone, as it felt like she was talking to a child. Come to think of it, perhaps she was... “Say, do you know how old you are?” It would be an oddly phrased question to most others, but she had a suspicion it'd not be the case with Kaida.

That's when something occurred to Regula. With the elders out of hearing-range, she would be free to ask Kaida all sorts of questions, as the girl herself didn't seem to know when it was best not to answer. That included following up on some of the things Regula had noticed when she appraised Kaida. Regula figured she'd start small. “So, you know a bit of fire magic, don't you?”

Vladimir listened as Izaak explained how he learned his skills from his pack. "Really, that's pretty cool." He said with a nod as he began finishing up his totem. 'Guess thats the perk of growing up in this world instead of just being thrust into it.' He thought as he carefully cleaned his lines and smoothed the edges with a file. He then brought out a vial of dark brown oil that with a rag he started to rub into the totem, turning the deep brown wood a darker. There was a slight smell of sap and something earthy as with a final push of his power there was a faint 'pop' as the wood took on a slight green glow. Vlad looked it over for any defects as he had learned early on that small mistakes could cause unwanted side effects. "So from what you've told me your people are about as welcome as mine so what brought you over this way?" He asked as he turned the totem over and squinted at it almost suspiciously, before muttering under his breath. "Not my best work but it should do in a pinch."

“Would you believe it if I said I wanted to make the world a better place?” Izaak replied. “I had thought Ryken would be something of a melting pot. I’d hoped to find like minded individuals there, so we could pool our resources and our efforts. Work together for the common good.”

He tapped his charcoal against the page of his notebook absentmindedly. In the end, he’d never even made it to the capital. The events at Wendy’s had spooked him pretty bad, and he’d ended up traveling eastwards, towards the mountains. He knew that across them was a different country, through he knew very little of said land. Maybe the people there would be more receptive to him? Hell, maybe they’d be less. He wouldn’t really know until he got there. If that was even where he ended up going. He’d entertained the idea of joining the Adventurer’s Guild at Ryken, and maybe he still could, in some other land’s branch.

“I was naive,” he admitted, “Just means I need to be more careful searching out prospective allies.”

Mayor Anna nodded, her hands on her hips as she looked over the refugees. "That I am, that I am. I've heard you were coming. You have made good time given the circumstances. We were worried you might not make it, given the dragon heading this way. It was good you missed it." She thought to herself for a moment before continuing.

"Come. Come. Its been a long march, I'm sure. We have places ready for all of you. We will see you each get a good meal. All the arrangements have already been made." She waved them to follow her and turned to speak to Juliette as she lead them towards the village.

"Sister Aramathia, I hope you plan to stay with us a few days. It might not be safe to travel back right now. The dragon, and all. But we got scouts out tracking it.... and speak of the devil..."

At that point, there came a wiry balding old man with overly grizzled features. "They here then?" He asked, but didn't wait for a response. Obvioisly they were here. "I take it they didn't see nothing?" Mayor Anna shook her head. The man grunted, then turned around and left.

"Please pardon Mr. Nock. He's our huntmaster. He's been up the past few nights getting the tracking teams sent out. But don't you worry, he's the best we have. He'll find it by tomorrow."

For whatever reason, Mr. Nock came back. But unlike before, he seemed ready to go out into the woods. With a well oiled coat and leather hat, several satchels ready and a mean looking crossbow that Regula would be able to see was of an impressive quality. Amd large enough draw weight to take down big game without much effort. Or no effort, with a well placed shot.

"You girls wanted to go out, no? Group just came in from the road. No dragon there. I'll be sending teams out early, since I don't need a large team to search the road no more. You two will do there. Take the quarter mile range to the south along the road. I'm taking the north."

Of the three satchels on his arm, he preferred two. One to Kaida and one to Regula. "Food for a couple days each. If you get lost, just head north until you find the road, then head back here. Remember... this ain't a hunting trip. We just want to find the blasted thing first. If you see it, hurry back here. There are five silver rykes in there for each of you. And another five when you return if you find it. Any questions?"

Regula was surprised to see the Mr. Nock all geared up and ready so soon. She was even more surprised by the beauty of the crossbow he was wielding. “You've got to introduce me to whomever made that.” She blurted it out without much thought, as she was fascinated by the size and quality of it. She then took notice of the man's actual words. “Quarter mile to the south. Got it.” It was always good to repeat instructions like those to make sure one had heard them well. She swung the food sachet over her shoulder, as she nodded. Ten silver was a pretty decent amount for just finding some dragon. It wouldn't be as good as having a dragon for a trophy, but still, it was an amount that'd sustain her for a fair while. “Is there anything else in the area I should keep an eye out for? You mentioned attacks from the forests were commonplace. I'll withdraw if I spot the dragon, but I'm assuming engaging whatever else attacks me first won't be an issue? Just for what I can handle, of course, I know my limits.” She wasn't eager to run from some monsters just for the sake of pacifism, nor was she eager to die to something unexpected. Either way, she'd soon set out on the path set out for them.

Funnily enough... it didn't hurt as much as he thought it would. Oh, it hurt, but the excruciating pain he expected he wasn't there. That, or he probably just was in a state of shock and fatigue that his body really didn't care if it hurt or not. Maybe blood loss had something to do with it? He didn't know, he wasn't a doctor. All that Hinkiro knew, was that he was apparently alive. That was a good start as any. The light headedness made it hard to focus on anything else... but being alive was indeed a nice thing to focus on.

As he took in breaths, he could feel a tightness to it. Like something was wrapped around him. That was odd. But still alive, for now, anyway. He could hear talking. Faint. Muffled. Hard to pick out the exact words due to the ringing in his ears.... but it was becoming clearer... gradually. He no longer felt like he was spinning in place or floating. He still felt cold though... and tingly. And sore. Yet it seemed he was coming back into consciousness.

What he heard was note the voice of the one who shot him. It was another. Two different ones. The last bits. He heard clearly. That whoever was speaking wanted to make the world a better place. Funny... so did he...

Hinkiro tried to open his eyes. His lids fluttered open. It was somehow too bright and too dark to make out anything at the same time. He closed them again... vision still too faded to see clearly.

He let out a pained groan. Thougj it seemed to come out instead as weak rumbling growl. With a little bit of effort, he did manage to say at least two words. "...change...world..."

He felt like crap... but he was coming to.

RindoConsider.png Everything was dark, and a he could feel a pressure. He wasn't quite sure what was going on; sensations felt weird at the moment. Noah heard something but it was muffled, was it a person. He tried to move his mouth to call out. But tasted dirt. Surprised he sputtered and raised his face from the dirt spitting out the earthy taste from his mouth. Noah sat up with the last of his strength. He found himself faced with an older woman, the look on her face reminded him of his Math teacher. In that she didn't seem to like him. Noah heard her words now that he was a bit more lucid, meeting other people focused him long enough to make some sense. "Ugh, I'm from San Fran ma'am." Noah absentmindedly told her of his home before realizing he had said it. It was automatic; a reflex! What if she turns him away not recognizing the place or gets suspicious? Besides first rule of getting transported to another world is you keep the secret as long as possible. Noah attempted to correct himself with a convincing enough story. "It's far away you wouldn't have heard of it probably. I... got lost." Noah nodded to himself convinced he gave as good a try as he could.

Noah stood up fully with a lurch. He rolled his shoulders trying to get the ache out and stretched his back. This movement caused him to turn his head. He blinked owlishly briefly stunned at what he saw. The first thing that struck him was the azure eyes reminding him of the ocean. Then he saw her long hair farming her stoic face; she was clad in ornate armor which struck Noah with its shine and style. His eyes widened to the size of plates and his mouth hang agape as he took in the lustrous wings which hung from her back. Noah was completely taken aback this was the first time he had truly understood the difference between his world and this one. He had struggled since he got here, but now in this brief moment of peace he understood the alien majesty of a fantasy world. "An, Angel..." Noah spoke out quietly amazed. He stood stunned for a some time in silence. Until he realized his silence and with a blush did his best to get ahold of himself. "H-Hey, m'names Noah, Noah Osmund but everyone calls me Noah." He tries to inject some levity in his voice and puts on a flustered grin. "Like I was saying to miss over there, I'm lost and have been wandering the forests for some time, so I could really go for some food. In like a I'm literally starving kind of way"

Despite the clearly hospitable nature of these people, Juliet didn't bother letting her guard down. She had life experience, both in this life and her last, that proved that people were never what they seemed. People weren't worthy of trust. Deep down, humans were just as much monsters as the monsters they Purge. However, she was not one to think that all humans were evil. She herself was still human, despite the wings. She just understood that humans were not to be trusted. People were not to be trusted. People had a habit of going behind each other's backs. They had a habit of doing things evil. She had been through enough in life experience to understand that when given the opportunity of doing something evil for their own gain most people wouldn't hesitate. Even still, she followed at a respectable distance behind the mayor "There may be more work the church needs in this region. So, I may stay."

She listened to the words of everyone around her as the refugees were led off to be taken care of. Keeping her guard up and her spear at the ready. She didn't bother to turn her head, rather she simply glanced to the boy who was asking for food. It didn't seem like he was lying, but one could never be too sure. With that being said, she wasn't the type to let somebody go hungry.

She stopped, reaching her hand across her body and untying a small pouch from her hip. Turning and looking at him with her normal cold, distant gaze. She held the pouch out to him, the other hand gripping the spear tightly as she looked at him "Take these rations."
