"The fuck is a Christ?"

That actually reminds me about how religion is treated in the Republic. For the most part it's the usual religious freedom. You're allowed to practice as long as it doesn't actively preach overthrowing the government or practice human sacrifice. It's actually not uncommon for military recruits to swear their oaths on some kind of holy text
Hehe, I just got an inspiration for my spec ops guy. Btw, CS when? No rush if you're having personal problems tho.

It happens occasionally. Usually it happens for no real reason, like I miss just one notification and RPN thinks I suddenly don't care about MY OWN THREAS

I hate it. Anyways it's given me time to work out the tech of the GRUS! They definitely mainly use firearms. Turns out railguns are very hard to make. They still make extensive use of them, but mainly for emplaced weapons and ship weapons. The only exception I have is a sort of ani materiel rifle of sorts given to special forces. Even then the military has yet to fight an enemy with armor tough enough to warrant widespread use. Until now of course.

I'll keep this in mind when I'm finalizing my character.

Oh, and I just remembered! Military branches. It's kept somewhat simple so here's a jist:

Army: More or less the planetary defense force, comprised of both the planet's infantry, air force, and occasionally ocean borne navy. It's unheard of for a planetary army to ever leave it's planet unless being transferred. A common tactic is to always send armies to planets they are not natives of. The early years of the Republic taught the military that not doing this made rebellion extremely easy.

Navy: Basically the star ship part of the military, and the backbone of the military. As such they hold a lot of sway in the government as well, and it's no coincidence a good number of Consuls and Imperators come from the Navy.

Marines: Think of them as the primary fighting force of the military. Marines go where they're needed, focusing on adaptability and mobility. The basic idea is that when a planet comes under attack, the army garrison will hold out as long as possible until the military can formulate a counter attack and retake the planet with Marines.

So in short:

If you need something defended, get the Army.

If you need to get somewhere, get the Navy.

If you need something done, get the Marines.

Decent mix of green worlds, death worlds, moons and such? Or is it pretty rare to have Earth-like conditions? In which case most people would live in hab units like in Aliens or Total Recall

It's a decent mix. Most major planets are green, but it's not uncommon for smaller settlements on other planets for mining and industry. But I actually imagine there might be something like the atmosphere processor from Alien, though it could possibly require a lot of power and resources to keep running, to the point some planets are so hostile using them would just be impractical, so more traditional methods of pressurized buildings and suits are used

Oh yeah I totally forgot they terraformed in Aliens. That kind of tech would probably belong to the megacorps (if they still exist in such a state).
