The Force of Justice - IC Thread

"Doubt they'd be foolish enough to go right back. I know I wouldn't - and they just saw that they're not dealing with the ordinary. You ask me, it'd be better to strike now, not later; who knows if they have incoming help as well. We got another place to visit if these don't talk, and even more options if they do... could maybe let them get away a little, away from all the attention down there." She sends her vision of the foolish bystanders, gawking and filming away like mindless moths drawn to the fire. "But trying to follow them all the way - they'll have precautions in place, just in case things go wrong."

Deb thinks for a moment, then nods. "You're right. We'll take them out right here. Dreamy, how long until you are on scene? If it is going to be a while, we'll have to hit these bozos now and let you join in the fight once you get here."

Believing him to be safe from harm (at least from the White King's pawns), Dreamy gives Harry a merry wave. The Kairissian is genuinely sad to see him go for he is a being who seems very confused and capable of hate, yet still there was goodness in him. "Thank you for what you've done, Harry!" Dreamy tells him as they part ways. "I must go. My friends need me now. Please try to forgive these 'muties' for whatever they have done, for hate isn't good for anyone's heart. Nice people are better than mean people, so try to be nice, Harry!"

To his escort, she adds, "He may have done bad things, but please remember that he aided us when we needed him. Stay safe!"

Dreamy departs the way she came minus the van and everyone in it (those poor Carbonites have probably had enough excitement for one day, she thinks). "I should be there very shortly, Luminary!"

"Blue Bolt?"
she asks. "Are we 'mutant sympathizers' too? Those Genocide Carbonites were being pretty mean with their weapons. I think they were trying to Recycle us! Even the police people we were with!"

Luminary's grin goes to a rather vicious one. These guys are going to be so boned in just a minute! They won't even know what hit them! Then, over the mind link, she sends, "Excellent! Hustle up, and we'll hit them together. Dawn, you do darkness stuff. Can you hit them with a blackout to slow them down long enough for Dreamy to arrive? Just in case there are some surprises in store for us, I want to nail these guys with overwhelming strength to make them realize that they have no chance against us."

"On it." In fact, Nisha's already prepared; another vial filled with swirling shadows in her hand, and ancient words in her mind. She meant to stop those below from leaving even before Luminary arrived; with Dreamy on the way, there's one more reason, now. A quick flick of the wrist undoes the seal that kept the captured darkness at bay; for a moment, a cloud of pure blackness hovers at Nisha's side, before a simple command, combined with her pointing hand, give it a new direction. The civilians down there, with their phones and their total lack of survival instincts - they wanted a show, and unfortunately, they'll get one. The darkness spreads, and spreads further as it moves, closing in on the vehicle below; soaking up light and sounds where the White King's men are gathered. Hard to drive without any sense of the surrounding, and hard to communicate without words and sight. That's the hope, at least. These men were totally unprepared for Dreamy's escape; let's see how they'll deal with the creeping darkness of old.

OOC: I'd like to place a blackout darkness field right around their vehicle.

OOC All right! Combat is about to begin! <rubs hands together>
A quick rundown of the combat rules for those that are new to this. In order to hit your foe, your target number is 11-, plus your OCV, minus their DCV. A mental attack works the same, but it substitutes OMCV and DMCV for the numbers.

An example. It works out that if you have a 12 OCV, you start out with a 23- to hit. Then we subtract the DCV of your target. Lets say it is an 8. That gives you a 15- on 3d6 to nail them. If you are using an Area of Effect attack, you are aiming at the hex the target is in, not the person, and the hex always has a DCV of 3, so it is damn near impossible to miss.

If you roll a 3 on the dice, that is a critical strike, doing max damage. Conversely, a 18 is always a miss.

Counting damage is simple. On a Normal attack, like one of Luminary's Blast attacks, the total on the dice is the Stun you do. In order to count the Body, look at each die. A '1' is zero Body, while a '2-5' equals one Body, and a '6' is two Body. On the average, if you are throwing 15d6 at something, you are going to do 15 Body to your target.

Killing Attacks are a little different. The number on the dice is the Body done, and to determine Stun, you roll a 1d3 and multiply the Body by that number.

Your Speed tells me what Phase you act on. I believe that everyone has a '6' Speed, so you go on Phases 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12. Combat always starts out at Phase 12, where everyone gets to act according to their Initiative, usually based off of Dexterity - unless you have some Lightning Reflexes to speed you up.

So, unless you have any questions, we'll get the fight going!
Surprise Phase 12
When Nisha places her Darkness field around the van, it causes an immediate reaction from the gunmen. It does cause the anticipated confusion, but they are trying to still find their way into the back of the van so the driver can get them the hell out of there.

Luminary - 24
Nisha - 18
Dreamy - 18 - will arrive in two turns
14 - Gunmen

Psychie Psychie is up with Luminary on the start of Phase 12

You cannot see the van or the people at all, thanks to Nisha's Darkness filed. You can still try a blind shot to hit something, or hold your action. What do you do?

Luminary will make sure her own defense fields are up, just in case I had not mentioned that before. In the meantime, she will fly down until she is within 10 meters of the van and hit it with my Blast Cone attack.

11 OCV, doing 10d6

38 Stun, 12 Body

While Luminary cannot see the results of her attack, Nisha does spot the fact that the three gunmen that were outside of the truck were all hit by the energy blast, with the other two protected by the body of the vehicle. They are all hurt but not knocked out. Clearly this is not some low level armor.

Silanon Silanon and Purr Purr are up on Phase 12 at Initiative 18.

"Blue Bolt?" she asks. "Are we 'mutant sympathizers' too? Those Genocide Carbonites were being pretty mean with their weapons. I think they were trying to Recycle us! Even the police people we were with!"
The reply through the mind link is, "I am Googleing the address you've given me, and there are listings for that address in several different United States cities. I'm going to try for imaging on these locations to get a look at what we may be dealing with. And yes, Dreamy, all of you are considered mutant sympathizers. You are either a member of Genocide, a 'true' human, a mutant, or a sympathizer. The last two categories are both listed for immediate termination."

Soaring through Sacramento, Dreamy frowns at Blue Bolt's news. "Chaser taught me that termination means Recycling. That means the White King's Carbonites aren't going to be like Harry at all! They'll be mean to us and we can't talk them out of it." Dreamy felt troubled and sad for she never liked fighting when two sides could instead talk it out. These Carbonites couldn't be reasoned with. It was time to take action before they tried to harm again.

Dreamy knows she already has a strong idea of where she had already been, but she only possesses a basic knowledge of the White King's men. Trying to use her brain over her brawn, Dreamy reaches out with her mind to find one of their pack in particular using what facts and theories she had at hand - a Carbonite, probably male, awake, alert, filled with lots of hate for "muties," probably agitated (given their failed attempt to Recycle poor Harry), and... ah! The one that was controlling the... car! Yes!

If Dreamy had a better understanding of English, she would have used the word "driver," but like all cosmic explorers Kairissian or otherwise, she had to use the knowledge she has at the moment!

Dreamy is attempting to use Mind Scan to Lock On to the White King van driver.

I have edited this post - I should have put it in OOC. =)

Dreamy has hit her target with the Mind Scan with an Ego +20 level of effect; you know his exact location and can target him with all your powers that could possibly reach him with line of sight. Any and all mental powers are fair game.

The darkness below; hard to see through, for most. But she'd be a fool to not be prepared, so her own eyes pierce through the shadows with ease. And what she sees, from the rooftop, finds its way through the mind link, offering insight that the blast did connect with the thugs. Tough bastards, though, and well-prepared. "Good start; hit a few." But any start needs a decent follow-up, or there'll be nothing gained, in the end. And thus, Nisha follows up the cloud of darkness with another lightless swirl, aimed in-between the two foes lucky enough to escape Luminary's blast, and whomever else might be within reach.

OOC: I'm going for the 4m AoE blast (it's armor-piercing), 10d6 if it hits. Just noticed that I probably should have rolled to hit with the cloud as well, right?
17 to hit the right hex, the spell goes off, and we get 25 stun, 7 body out of it if I'm not mistaken.

Nisha can see that her Area of Effect attack lands in the middle of the three men that were outside the truck, and they all are knocked down. You don't believe that they are going to be unconscious for long unless they are hit by something again.

On Initiative 14, the truck lurches forward, trying to get out of the darkness field so the driver can see to escape the area. From the two AoE blasts, Nisha can see that the truck is somewhat beaten up, but it is still drivable.

End of the first turn, and everyone gets their Recovery to get back the Endurance you've spent.

Psychie Psychie is up on phase 2

Luminary - 24
Nisha - 18
Dreamy - 18 - will arrive in two turns
14 - Gunmen

Yes. It is driving wildly, since the driver couldn't see what he was doing up until now.

Luminary will try to target the engine with her Killing Attack, trying to bring the vehicle to a stop.

5d6 RKA, 11 OCV

Crappy damage. Only 14 Body. I'm not rolling the Stun multiplier because objects don't take Stun.

Luminary's energy blast hits the engine compartment of the truck, and punch a hole into the metal. The engine lets out a nasty sound and a poof of black smoke, and the truck slows to a steady crawl. The vehicle is probably armored some to survive the punishment you guys are dishing out.

Silanon Silanon and Purr Purr are up on Phase 2 Initiative 18

Turn 1
Luminary - 24
Nisha - 18
Dreamy - 18 - will arrive at the beginning of turn 3
14 - Gunmen

Chaser smiled. "Well, if your dog likes me, he must be pretty smart."

"He can do what now?"

He scratched the dog's neck with mindless passivity as he listened to the girl speak. Yeah, pets weren't the only guys who got hurt, thought Miles, but he kept that in his head. Eventually Rebecca finished, and the speedster nodded slowly, trying to figure out the nice words a sensitive person would use.

"Hey now, it's not your fault. You didn't ask to be any different, did you?" No, that didn't sound quite right...

"Besides. All 'cause you're different doesn't mean it's a bad thing. I mean, I'm different." Miles took his hands off of King and pointed both thumbs at his chest. "C'mon, you know nobody's as fast as ya boy, just like not everybody can do what you do with animals. Nothin' wrong with that part of me, right? Sometimes people just, uh...they get mistaken about what kinds of different things are bad, and that's prolly what those guys were. Ya can't always help it if someone else does something wrong, it's not your fault what other people do. That make sense?"
Rebecca nods a bit, trying to take in the words and choke back some tears. Finally she says, "Mr. Chaser sir? What is going to happen to me now? Do I still have to go to that special school that mom and dad were talking about?"

Miles gave an empathetic shrug. "I can't say. "I'm sorry, but it's not my decision. It's up to your mom and dad. Did they ever talk to you about it before? Did they tell you anything about it?"

David Gilmour - Until We Sleep (Official Audio)

Partial lyrics
"Into a deep and dreamless sleep our spirits fall
and what we sow we cannot reap nor keep at all"

As Dreamy smoothly soars between the buildings of Sacramento, the beautiful star-model shares her feelings with the Force of Justice across her Mind Link, mind-images and memories being the preferred method of conversation between Kairissians. Her mind-voice in this message comes across as caring and disappointed. "I sure wish these Carbonites weren't so mean, trying to Recycle Harry and all. If they would just stop and talk with us, we might work something out. But..."

Dreamy reaches out with her mind and attempts to telekinetically lift the enemy ground-based vehicle up some 30 feet from the street while turning the thing upside-down in the hopes that the White King's men slowly tumble around inside like clothes in a clothes-dryer.

"...maybe this will get them to play nice?"

Compared to lifting the prisoner transport van earlier, this is a whole different animal. Not only is this vehicle larger, but you are hoisting the thing from around the corner, and are not even able to see the truck at all. But even so, it is not really that hard to expand your target lock on the driver to be able to grab the whole vehicle and lift it up. It is now thirty feet up in the air, and is starting to rotate upside down much to the dismay of the passengers.

Silanon Silanon is up on initiative 18

Turn 1
Luminary - 24
Nisha - 18
Dreamy - 18 - will arrive at the beginning of turn 3
14 - Gunmen

"That'd be a first. Their kind isn't of the understanding sort. Takes a certain type of mind to get involved with the White King, and like-minded folks. The kind that likes to avoid rational thinking, mostly."

Thus, Nisha prepares for the worst; making sure her own defenses are in place, and moving the cloud of darkness upwards, following the van, in order to take away lines of sight. These men were heavily armed, after all; better to not give them any target.

"Doubt they'll just concede their point. Begs the question how we're going to end this. Maybe shake them a little more?"

Somehow, that's an actual option; guess that's what those thugs fear about 'muties', right? Unlimited possibilities. They came prepared, but it's not like it mattered thus far.

"Could also ask nicely, but I doubt it'll work."

On initiative 18 of phase 2, both the truck and the darkness field are rising up into the air, causing the passengers some harsh words for those responsible.

The people in the truck don't act on 2, but instead on 3 where no one else acts. A large figure in an armored battlesuit jumps out of the open back of the truck and manages to land on its feet in the classic 'Iron Man' landing pose. It stands and looks around, and sees Luminary as its most viable target. A quad launch missile launcher opens up on the suit's shoulder and launches the quartet of missiles at you.

What is your DCV?
