Hoyo!
I'm here to see if anyone's interested in a DBZ RP?
But before you shout "Yay!" or boo me with a "Nay!" from the mountaintops, here are the most important things about the RP to consider!
(Also, here's a link to the Lore Page: Fandom - Dragonball: Ascension (Lore))
Rules And Guidelines
1) All actual "races" are playable.
This means the Saiyans, Namekians, Humans, Androids (*), Frost Demons (*), or even original alien races of your own design are all playable!
However, the Majin are not a race of people according to the source material. So they aren't playable. Sorry for Majin fans out there, but this isn't Xenoverse.
Androids and Frost Demons have an * next to them because they're both special circumstances and have a few caveats.
Androids aren't really a race on their own. They're humanoids with mechanically altered bodily modifications such as skeletons, organs, power sources, etc. And yes, this does mean that any race can have an Android version created.
Androids are not going to have an infinite power supply though. So don't even ask. And no, you can't upgrade to one later even if you keep the power level "close" to that of the other members of the cast. There will be no infinite power supplies because that mechanic is FAR too easily abused. I'm sure you're a great person and you wouldn't actively try to abuse it. But I'm not taking chances. Your Android will run low on power if you push too much. And if you push even further than too much your Android will run out of power entirely which will turn them into a large and expensive paper weight (might be a cool story idea and character development path though).
Frost Demons are not going to be like Frieza when it comes to power. He was a mutant and a prodigy. An exception. Not the standard. Anyone who plays a Frost Demon in this RP will be a standard member of their race. This means, at the start of the RP, that you will always be in what Frieza called his "fourth" form. That's the actual Frost Demon's form. The other transformations Frieza used were created by him as a means to regulate his enormous power. You don't have that power. So you don't start with those transformations.
Having said that! You can have your Frost Demon learn to create transformations like Freiza's as their power level grows along with everyone else throughout the RP's story. But before you implement one, please bring it to my attention that you want to and we will discuss the matter. For a Frost Demon to have enough power as to warrant a transformation to help regulate it is an important thing. Not just a matter of "I think I'm strong enough, so I want my first transformation now." There should be a legitimate story and character development reason behind it. Otherwise, it will wait.
So that's that on races!
2) There will be power balancing so Saiyans aren't grossly overpowered compared to everyone else.
The Saiyan Zenkai is under very, very strict rules and guidelines for how it functions in this DBZ world and how much power can be gained from it.
To put it up front, the maximum power a Saiyan will gain from a Zenkai is a 3x increase in their max power output. That's it. No higher. Ever. Period. End of story. So long and thanks for all the fish!
... Ahem...
Also, I will be in charge of determining how much power any and all Saiyans gain from Zenkai's by the use of the website Roll Dice With Friends. I will roll a 20-sided die, and the number rolled will be the Zenkai's result. No re-rolls, with one exception to be detailed shortly.
I will allow anyone/everyone to join the room via the provided link and watch as I roll the die so we can all see the fair and unbiased result. That way nobody can cry "foul" if someone gets a higher Zenkai than they did. It's all up to the dice man.
If multiple Saiyans get Zenkai's in a battle (which will be a rare occurrence), I will roll multiple die to see their respective results and announce who's represented by which die ahead of time.
The die numbers for Zenkai boosts are as follows:
1: 20%
2: 25%
3: 35%
4-10: 50%
11-15: 75%
16-17: 100%
18: 150%
19: 200%
20: 300%
Now, for the re-roll exception: If you happen to roll a 20 and get a 3x Zenkai, the next 5 Zenkai's your Saiyan experiences (not including the 20 roll itself) will have the option of rolling a 20 removed. So if you get lucky and I roll a 20 in one Zenkai boost for your Saiyan, and then 3 Zenkai's later you get lucky and I roll a 20 again, I will re-roll until we don't see a 20 for that Zenkai. Once you get a 3x Zenkai, you will have exactly 5 more Zenkai's before the option of getting another 3x is back on the table.
This is to help prevent the Saiyan characters from absolutely running away with their power levels like Goku and Vegeta did in Super once they got God Ki. So learn to live with the idea, or move on to another RP.
One final thing I almost forgot to mention is that the Saiyan Race will have something I call the Ceiling. It's a genetic wall they can't get past which prevents them from ever gaining a Zenkai again. This happens somewhere around the Saiyan's 20th birthday, give or take a year or two for some, and from there it's all minor gains from battle. And when I say "minor" I mean like 0.25%-2% increases.
Now, for those Saiyans who are part of the main cast, there's going to be a little * for this. But I won't reveal what it is or why it happens until the RP has begun. So if your Saiyan is anywhere between 18-22 years old (18 being the minimum character age allowed), chances are whatever power level you set for them will be about their max for a while until the Ceiling can be breached later on and Zenkai's become active for your character again.
EDIT (5/29): This also means there will be No Power Multiplier Techniques like the Kaio-Ken. Transformations are a whole other issue. But techniques won't increase your power like Kaio-Ken did. Period. End of story.
3) The RP is about story first, action second (though action is still a huge part of it)
I know, this sounds a bit contradictory at first to longtime fans of the franchise. But it's really not going to that bad. Because when I say "story," I'm referring to the actual literary definition of the word meaning the "events as they take place in sequence" within the RP's narrative. Each event in the RP is a story beat. And conflict will always be a part of each beat. But the focal point is that story. The reasons why the conflict is happening.
Conflict for conflict's sake alone is boring AF. And I don't intend to have boring AF action taking place in my RP. You're going to feel the weight of the consequences of failure in each and every fight. It's never, and I mean never, going to just be a "Oh, we lost. We'll just come back better next time" kind of thing like it was in DB Super. If we lose a fight, and we will lose a few throughout the RP, our characters will feel it and they, as well as anyone caught up in it, will suffer the consequences of that failure.
Anyway, sorry if I sounded like a stiff in some of the above rules and guidelines for the RP. But I need to filter out the immature children who just want to dominate everything in sight from the serious minded role-players who have the maturity to not chase that "most powerful in the cast" role. Believe me I've encountered a few.
One DBZ RP I was in a few years ago saw my character reach Super Saiyan, and someone else almost immediately wanted their character to basically become Broly from DBS Broly and get the Ikari or "Wrath" state from the film. Like, my character hadn't been Super Saiyan for even a week IC and they wanted their character to jump ahead with the Ikari out of nowhere without ever having talked about it even being something their character was capable of or meant to acquire! Something like that happening so quickly IC renders the importance and significance of the Super Saiyan transformation entirely meaningless. A new Super Saiyan emerges after thousands of years and you suddenly become greater than one because of a (currently) film-only transformation?
I'm sorry, but no. This kind of immaturity and a desire to be the dominant force and keep that position as long as possible simply isn't going to fly. Saiyans will naturally gain strength faster than their allies of various races. That's a given. But even so there should not be so much of a power gap that everyone else feels, or worse becomes, irrelevant. If you can't handle not being "the strongest," then this isn't the RP for you and I don't want you around.
So, if there's enough interest in this I'll put together a Character thread and ask everyone to put something together there! If there's not much interest, no harm no foul. Right? Lol.
Cheers!
