Wrath & Glory

  • In the vast continent of Malveir conflict had always been present between the many nations and races that inhabited it. The nations of men in the western plains were divided into many kingdoms, nations rising and falling every decade or so. Only the mightiest of kingdoms, like the Papal states of Wriehin, survive longer than a decade and can reach a century of existence. To the north, the Dwarves and Beastmen take claim to the mountains and the valleys between them while the secluded village of the Xin resides, their nomadic people always returning to the sacred altar within their village. Three Drwaven kingdoms rule the mountains while several tribes of Beastmen live within the valleys, taking advantage of the great rivers that flow through them. The conflict between these two races was once numerous and bloody, filled with spite and hatred. Now in the present days, there are no more than a few skirmishes if one comes too close to another's territory, but the bloody and spiteful history still holds potential for larger future conflicts. To the great eastern forests live the Elves, Fae, Dark elves, and the Undead. In the Great Forests, the Elves and Fae control the western and northern sides of the Forest, living in mutual peace and bound in a centuries-long alliance against their not-too-far neighbors. To the east of the great forest rule the Undead lords and counts, plaguing the land in decay and dark magics that continue to threaten the Elves and Fae territory. To the south of the Forest live the Dark Elves, ruling from both their surface and underground cities, their two-thousand-long-year war against the Elves and Fae still being waged while their goals or plans are always a mystery. Finally within the southern deserts and wastelands of Malveir live the many tribes of Orcs and Ogres, while mysterious tribes of Giants keep to themselves, no race daring to disturb them. The Orcs and Ogres in the south tend to live together in hundreds of separate tribes, always fighting against one another for land, power, and food, while the strongest of tribes raid the upper lands. Never has Malveir known an age of peace, the reality of war being the only thing all have known. To the West, however, one kingdom would rise and challenge this reality.

In the West, after a brutal string of civil wars that plagued of West, rose the nation of Eswen that would be ruled by a young king named Rupert Godfrey. Born as a commoner Rupert has always been a man of the people, hearing and seeing their plight firsthand as their rulers abused and mistreated their people. So once the civil war broke out between neighboring kingdoms, Rupert took his chance and raised a revolt of his own, gathering many peasants and commoners to his side to usurp those who ruled over them. It was a brutal war that lasted for six years, but as the last supporter of the old king fell Rupert took his place as the new king and renamed their land the Kingdom of Eswen. Being a young lord at the age of 24, Rupert had many challenges and struggles ahead of him, but as he was crowned king he made a pledge before taking the throne. Pledging that Eswen would not only become a great nation that will inspire all of the West but inspire all of Malveir. All races, cultures, and religions would be welcomed to join under their banner in hopes to lay the foundation for a future within Malveir where only peace reigned, something that no other nation had ever bothered to attempt. All of the west laughed at the idea, but in a year, the first settlers of Dwarves from the north had already entered the nation thanks to the work of Rupert’s best diplomates, becoming the first of many settlers that would soon pour into the nation within the decade.

Four decades have passed since the birth of Eswen and the kingdom has grown greatly, becoming a recognizable power throughout the land. Though there are many nations still stronger than them, Eswen has gained many allies not only in the west but in the north and east as well. Toward the south, their call for unity for the southern races has been ignored and instead answered with brutal raids from the southern warlords. Conflict to the west and east has also remained. Bitter or power-hungry lords in the west make attempts to steal land from Eswen, but so far have been repelled. To the east, the Dark elves and even the Undead make rare sightings, their forces either fighting one another or Elven forces along Eswen’s borders. Though King Rupert’s goal of a unified Malveir may never come to pass in his lifetime, he knows he has begun the very foundation for this goal and entrust the future generations of his people to bring about a new era to their world. A new wave of heroes and warriors among Eswen's armies has begun to rise and shine brightly in this grim world, the future before them hopeful of what is to come. Little do most know, however, a great evil from ancient times slowly begins to emerge, its twisted and corrupted influence shifting and manipulating Malveir and its races from the shadows, leading all to a fate worse than death. Only the greatest of heroes will be able to banish this evil, but first, they must gather their strength, grow their armies and fight for all their worth. For in this grim dark world filled with war and strife, the only path to salvation is Wrath and Glory.
