The lore will just be world information that can help with character building! This will concern beings of the world, what the town looks like and what it has in it, town legends and tales, as well as an outline of the dream realm.

Character Species

More can be suggested, but below are the main types of species that a character can be.

Human/Mundane

No magic, but can know of the supernatural world.

Gifted

Can do magic, focused in specific areas like necromancy or the sight. To those looking to have witch characters, this is the role for you.

Lesser Gifted

Can only do small bits of magic, focused in specific areas like necromancy or the sight.

Bast

Have two forms, cat and human, and can do small bits of magic, see rules for Lesser Gifted.

Immortals

Can do magic, focused in a specific area, and live forever, though can be killed.

Vampyres

Like the myths, they feed on blood. However, they don’t burn up in the sun. A stake to the heart will do them in, as will any holy objects.

Ferals

Werewolves, but with an animal of your choosing, ranging from wolves to platypuses to birds.

Types of Magic

Magic can be used by some of the species specified above. They focus in specific areas, though, and so below is what sort of magic can be done. Please keep in mind to keep abilities in check; overpowering your character makes things less fun for the group, and I will be keeping an eye on things. Smaller spells, like levitating objects and protection wards, are the sort of thing any gifted can do, but bigger spells will need to be related to one of the types below. More types can be suggested.

Necromancy

Raising the dead, speaking with the dead, sharing a drink with the dead, realizing you and the dead have more in common than you thought, necromancy has it all! You’re the sort of person who can summon ghosts and then have to have your friends exorcise them from you because you didn’t put up proper wards. You can also raise zombies, operate Ouija boards, sense death within places, and other such things.

The Sight

Having the sight differs from person to person. Perhaps you’re plagued by dreams of the future, or maybe you deliberately look forward in time- or back! -to figure stuff out. Basically, you can see the future in some way, vaguely- you can get a sense for an event that is going to happen, and some of the possible endings. That, or you can focus your energy on something and try to see what has happened in the past. The ways you can tell the future differ. Do you read palms? Do you look at tea leaves? Organs? Onions? It all depends on what type of seer you want to be.

Telepath

Have you ever wanted to read minds? No? Too bad. Telepaths are able to skim the minds of people near them, sometimes on purpose, sometimes on accident. They can also tell emotions and such; however, they can not CHANGE these emotions using their abilities. Other than that, since they are used to using their mind for their abilities, they’re better at lifting things with their thoughts.

Pyromancy

Playing a pyromancer is less about how comfortable you are with your character being an arsonist and more about how comfortable you are with your character setting themselves aflame. A misconception about pyromancy is that it’s just fire, due to the name. However, people with this magic type affect temperature both ways; it’s just much easier to light stuff on fire than it is to cool it down. They’re pretty fun at parties, until they burn the house down.

Nature

Plants. Animals. That one spider that you heard the screams of when someone hit it with a newspaper. You know the ins and outs of nature magic. Your garden is the envy of the PTA, and you can communicate with sentient beings that aren’t human. They are even more likely to listen to you! Plants can grow at your command with a little effort, too, which is pretty neat.

Miracles

Are you a man/woman/person of god? Well, good news, you too can do magic! Sort of. Miracles are based on belief in God. What God, you might ask! Well, any of them. In this world, it is assumed that any religion, ever, has existed in reality in some for. These gods can grant favors, and people who have faith can use 3 daily. Otherwise, they’re stuck doing normal person things. If they ever lose faith, they lose their miracles as well.

Runework

Runework is less instant magic and more the sort of thing that takes focus and time. This magic takes from other types of magic in effect, but users aren't going to be lighting something on fire with a flick of their hand. Instead, they work out runes and then activate them; they're less useful in battle than taking part in defense, but often are the ones to enchant and curse objects. They also are more skilled with summonings and the opening/closing of gates.

Organizations

These are some organizations, and their connection with the town.

The Wicce

The Wicce are your typical witches. They’re Gifted, and their organization lacks order for the most part; it’s split into many different covens, with different leaders and morals. The current coven in Providence doesn’t want to find the tear to close it, but instead just protect it from misuse.

Sentinels

They’re often called the guard dogs of God. They are religious people, like priests and exorcists, and the sort who use miracles. They plan to shut down the gate completely, and destroy anything that came through it.

The Rose Cross

Snobbish, rich, and elitist are words to describe the Rose Cross. They only let in the smartest, richest people, as well as those who excel at magic. They are the sort of people who search out knowledge and power, and have pride to keep. They plan to use the tear for research.

Solitaires

These people have no association with any sort of organization. They just exist, and have varying goals and morals.

There are other groups in the area, but some have not made themselves known.

Town Legends

This list will be edited as time goes on. Here are some of the tales that go around town.

-The town has a thinner veil between the physical world and the dream realm. This is known by some mundane, but it’s mostly seen as myth by them. For supernatural beings, they know it’s true.

-Legend has it that the Archangel Ramiel came down to Providence and blessed the lands, leading to the town having a parade for it yearly.

-The Jamesons, Iris and Harry, were murdered in their home. Their son was found dead in a cave nearby, after shouting was heard from within. It’s said the parents haunt the farm, and the son haunts the cave. The crime was never solved.

-Those who get lost in the woods at night say that their compasses start going buck wild at some point, and they start to hear and see things in the dark. Just as they start to lose hope, they say a white cat appears and scares away the things chasing them! Then, the cat leads them back to the safety of the trails. They call the cat the stargazer because of how legend says if you go out past midnight, looking for her, you can see her perched on a rock out in the woods, looking up at the sky, waiting for another traveler to lead back home.

Festivals & Events
Like any tourist town, Providence has events and festivals that it holds yearly. Some of these may even be events seen in the roleplay!

-The Feast of Dreamers
This is a time to think about your goals for the coming years, over a free feast in the town hall, provided by the farms!

-The Springtime Carnival
The carnival is a time to unwind! Vendors, games, and rides are all placed near the docks.

-Halloween Bash
Boo! This spooky event is when all the shops hand out candy for the kids, and a much-anticipated haunted house is set up! Corn mazes are provided by the farms

-Flowerfest
It may be winter, but flowerfest helps us remember that there is life even in the snow! The town invites visitors to participate in this heartwarming event, where flowers are set in the graveyard to remember all those who need it, and to provide a reminder that even in death, we can keep moving on.

-Holiday Hunt
Christmas isn’t for everyone, and not everyone can get presents for the holidays, so the town sets up a search and find for the kids who need something to do this time of the year!

-Providence Talent Show
The talent show is held annually at town hall, and is open to anyone who is willing to show what they've got!

-Parade of Ramiel
This parade, brought about by the Church in town, is an event to show off the optimism and hopefulness of our town.

The Dream Realm

This is information on the Dream Realm, which is an integral part of the roleplay. It is heavily based off of the Dream Realm within WitchCraft

What IS the Dream Realm?

Most believe their dreams are simply the product of their subconscious. In some manner, this is correct. Within their panorama, a dedicated and talented lucid dreamer can create whole worlds, while a normal mundane simply is dragged along for the ride. However, much lies beyond the panorama that most don’t visit because they cannot, and these realms WITHIN the realm can be deadly.

Sub-Realms

-Panorama

Each person has their own panorama. This is where they go when they dream. One can’t truly die within this realm, and it changes constantly based on what the owner is dreaming about. Those who are emotionally close are known to visit one anothers panoramas.

-The Periphery

The Periphery is where you go when exiting your Panorama, something not many can do. The Periphery looks different for different people. To some, it may look like a hall with many doors, or a gorgeous sea you can swim through with no need for breath, gazing at the bubbles that contain other peoples panoramas. These are the things that remain true, no matter what: The Periphery is the outermost layer of the realm. It contains the panoramas of every being. The appearance of those in the Periphery is entirely dependent on self image. You can’t get hurt there.

-The First World

Where animals go when they dream, as well as die. It’s a wide, expansive forest, with rivers and ponds. There are paths that lead through it, but it remains difficult to navigate. It’s right outside the Periphery, and is the first realm where death is possible for those navigating it.

-City of Bubastis

Where Bast go when they dream. It’s a winding city, and most often they remain in their cat forms. It’s found through a path in the First World, and like that area, people can die and get hurt here.

-Sammael’s Gate/The Wasteland

This is a corrupted area of the dream realm, due to a tear within it that leads to the realm of the Mad Gods. It’s said that anyone who nears the gate will go insane. The gate continues to open more, and no one has been able to stop it yet. Only small tainted creatures can get through, currently, but as it grows, it is possible that a Mad God will be able to get through soon enough.

-The Garden of Earthly Delights

It’s a walled off garden, and has many temptations to those who enter it. The truth is that if you choose to stay, while you’ll gain comforts, the spirits there feed off of you for eternity.

-The Domain of Morpheus, Dilmun

Morpheus is the ruler of the dream realm. His city, Dilmun, is hard to get to, and one can only succeed in finding the path if they’re clever or if they get chosen. It’s filled with Gods, Mara, and other dream spirits, as well as Morpheus himself, and his two siblings, Phatasus and Icelus. If one wishes to speak with them, they have to enter the tower at the middle of the city.

More subrealms exist, but are rarely visited. Some include the Realm of Visions (which shows the future, present, and past all at once) and the Cave of Fates (where the 3 Fates roam, deciding who lives and dies)

Current Ciphers/Puzzles Solved
In WitchCraft: Malady, there's going to be lots of puzzles. Some will be obvious. Others will be not. Some will have no meaning! Some will have information. Maybe some will be the lyrics to Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley. It's a toss up! Below is the ones current solved.

ALPHABET SHUFFLE #1 OWRMJK SY GVCAX DECHZT, NEQBU IF LSP
Translated to: Sphinx of Black Quartz, Hear My Vow
Time Taken: 2 hrs and 30 mins

And that’s all the current information, though this may be updated! If anyone has questions, please comment here or the OOC to let me know.
