The Kingdom of the Tempest
Stepping out onto this new-land, the wind blows your fur back. Your ears try and turn up, but the wind is too harsh. You can see for miles, but what you see you are unsure. There is specks everywhere and you have this feeling one of them is watching you back. Still, you press forward hoping to find some shelter, yet, it seems this open land goes on for miles. The scent of rabbit makes you hungry, but it might not be so safe to hunt one.

Welcome to Wispclan where the cats are as quick as the wind that blows upon their hills. They are a paranoid bunch that are always watching from a top their hills. Not that you could catch much around here without that speed. It is also quite dangerous here if you do not have the skills for this area like Wisp. You can wait at the border, but these cats might end up questioning your motives and sacrificing you to starclan... Just kidding...

If you find yourself lost, make sure to check the ☁Wispclan Cats☁ Page in order to find your way.
If you couldn't already tell, this is the roleplay area for only those roleplaying in this area.

Current Status
Wispclan has been hunting in the forest near the border of Flareclan due to a high influx of birds moving south for the winter including large birds of prey following them. To keep their apprentices safe, they have ordered to hunt near and around the forest or in low parts of the territory until the full moon.

We are nothing if not absurd.

The she-cat jolted awake, fur standing on end, defensively curled in her mossy nest. The air was cold around her - not freezing, but cool enough to make her glad for her long fur - and her nest was cool. She must have been thrashing in her sleep.

The sun was barely up. It was early, and the air was cool, and so she allowed the silence to soothe her.
The clan for not yet awake.

She thought of Koipaw, felt a pang of guilt, a guilt for taking the clan's only apprentice.
None of the warriors had asked to take her on. Still, she wondered if the clan was resentful, or thought she was incapable. After all, during her sickness, her deputy had been forced to train Koipaw.

No. She had taken Koipaw on due to her past.
Her mother had left before it became apparent that she had kits with an outcast.
Bluekit was permitted to stay because she had nowhere else to go.
She was safe from her clan, and loved them dearly, but she did wonder if they talked.

It had felt odd to her. She had taken her apprentice, given her a tour, and fell sick within a moon. It had not lasted very long - a moon at most - but, unbeknownst to her clan, had caused her to lose her first life. She was grateful to Pebblestep - of course she was - for helping her along.

She jerked her head. She would not second-guess herself.

The she-cat exhaled slowly, brought herself to her senses, lifted out of her nest. She felt young, strong, alive. It was not often she felt so since she became Fallenstar. Sometimes, she longed to again be Fallenstripe, but she knew that this - this leadership, this clan - was her destiny. Starclan had willed it, and it was so.

She was meant to lead her clan to prosperity.

She gave herself a moment to clear her head. After a minute or two, she left her den, slipping through the moss at the door.

Visiting Bramblekit was tempting - but would wait for the evening. It would be unfair to wake whatever warrior was supervising so early, especially when the kit would likely spend his day visiting the elders. He was excited to become an apprentice. Instead, she padded quietly through the camp, focusing on silence.

She came to the apprentice den, sat just outside the door, and softly meowed. "Koipaw, get up."

Scorchheart
Scorchheart hid in the shadows of the den for from where the sunlight touched. He waited for his sister to arise, but she was more of a night cat and so it always took awhile. He dared not leave the den without her though since she tended to play the ignore him game and it made him feel guilty. He hated the feeling of guilt, so instead he watched as other cats rose and left. the black tom had thought about waking his twin up, but she tended to react badly and he was in no mood to explain these issues to Pebblestep, who was already suspicious enough about his sister.

Scorchheart watched the shadow of his leader heading towards the apprentice den and sort of wished he was still an apprentice so that he would have to get up. Instead, he was more like a kit waiting on command from Freezefang.

There was some good about being the only apprentice. For one, Koipaw was able to lay her nest wherever she wanted, and that just so happened to be in the darkest corner where the sunlight failed to touch. It constantly had a comfortable coolness to it, and she was never awakened by the sting of the streams of light hitting her eyes. Of course, it also had its downsides - and by that, she meant it got a bit lonely. She had grown used to the comfort of her clanmates' presence around her. Well, Scorchheart's at least. She had always been a bit iffy about his sister, but than again, Freezefang didn't always have the kindest attitude.

Koipaw's ear twitched at the sound of her mentor, and she picked her head up tiredly, her drowsiness evident in her eyes. She yawned and stretched before taking her leave from the den and greeting her mentor. An eagerness and excitement lit up her golden gaze, a quick change from her tired state just moments ago. There was no doubt about her respect for her mentor, and after having trained under the deputy, she was glad to have her original mentor back.

There were nearly none that knew of her true bloodline, but Fallenstar was one of those that did. Her adoptive mother and aunt, Patchpelt, had confided in the leader, likely knowing of her own history. Of course, her aunt never told her that Fallenstar was aware, having every intention to ensure Koipaw kept it a secret at all costs.

"Hello Fallenstar," She mewed eagerly, the small apprentice seeming to bounce with excitement. "What's on the schedule for today? Hunting?"

Near to one of the outer walls of the den, a silvery warrior shifted in his nest, his limbs splayed out awkwardly. To the annoyance of those around him, this was a nightly occurrence, and it wasn't uncommon for him to roll around and twitch his paws in his sleep. While most nights Toadflgiht couldn't remember his dreams, or they were uneventful, apparently his subconscious thought otherwise. Normally, he awoke with a pelt full off dark moss, and tufts of grass on his muzzle, or even in his mouth. It wasn't pleasant, and there were plenty of days where he woke up groggy and grumpy.

Luckily, today wasn't a groggy day. Forest-green eyes flicked open as Toadflight roused from his slumber, and he slowly sat up in his nest. He blinked blearily as he glanced around the den, noting the amount of warriors still sleeping, the rays of sunlight streaming down through the cracks of the den, and the lack of much conversation coming from outside of the den. 'Must be pretty early, huh?' He thought to himself, his jaws parting in a wide yawn, shortly before stretching out his front limbs and spine. After one satisfying stretch, he turned his head to inspect the den one more time, nearly doing a double-take as his eyes caught sight of a pair of mismatched eyes watching from one of the darker corners of the den.

Before he could reassure himself, he could feel the fur on his spine bristling, and his ears flicking back at the initial scare. He was able to quickly put the eyes to a face as his eyes adjusted to the dark, and rationalized the sudden bout of fear. With one final, quick shake of his head, Toadflight moved to leave the den, muttering out a rough, "Mornin'" to the dark warrior as he passed, though, despite his attempts, it wasn't too friendly.

"You don't belong here."

"You're not part of the clan."

"LEAVE!"

Ravenheart woke up with a start. His breath was labored, his fur was bristled up and his bedding was all over the place. The other warriors had learned not to be so close to the deputy, considering that he wasn't exactly a peaceful sleeper. Well, when you're constantly having nightmares, you would understand why he acted like this.

He looked around to see that the some of the warriors had already woken up. Oh great, the one thing he had to do was to at least get up early and yet this happened. He fixed up his nest haphazardly before hurrying outside, careful to not step on any other cat on the way out.

As he reached the clearing, he saw their leader enter the apprentice's den. He bowed his head respectfully at her before heading out and then sitting down to wait for the other warriors to rise. He had to organize the border patrols but that was rather easy. He already spoke to Crystalfur to lead a border patrol. He would send out another one once a certain tom decided to get out of the den.

His gaze shifted to the apprentice's den - to their leader. He still remembered when she had grown sick and unable to perform her duties. That was one of the most terrifying things that had ever happened in Ravenheart's life. She was sick for around a moon but that was enough to put him in panic mode every night for the sole reason of not being used to having that kind of authority. One step at a time, he would tell himself.

He had full trust in the leader's health now, considering the fact that everything checked out. But sometimes, he found himself thinking - what if it happens again? What kind of mess will he get into then? It only fueled his worried that he wasn't fit for this position. He shook his head before looking up at the others once more. There were still hunting patrols to organize.

Freezefang
The white she-cat was sleeping peacefully before her ears pricked towards the sound of a rude tom. Again?! she growled and noticed her brother twitch beside her. He gave off a meek morning reply. Freezefang thought it was finally time she got up thanks to Toadflight. Toad is suiting for him. Better off as a weak minded Silentclan cat, she thought as she stretched her limbs. "Come on, Scorchheart. Time to play the game," she meowed without waiting for her brother to follow. She quickly pushed past Toadflight, giving a slight shove.

"Morning, Toadflight," she meowed in a cheerful tone, but her eyes were cold. Turning back since she was satisfied with her payback of rudeness, Freezefang noticed Ravenheart waiting in the camp. I wonder what we will be doing today? she thought, but she was more than happy to please the deputy.

"Good morning, Ravenheart," Freezefang meowed in her pleasing voice. Scorchheart had caught up and gave a nod of acknowledgement towards Ravenheart.

Ravenheart idly watched the others as they mingled with each other. Some had already headed over to eat so that they could go hunting. That was also fine by him. At least they were taking care of that problem. He then approached one of the other idle cats. "Stormclaw, go with Vinepool to get some fresh kill alright?" He said and the tom nodded before padding off to talk to Vinepool.

He then turned to Freezefang and Scorchheart. Perfect. He assumed that them heading over to him meant they were ready to get their assignments for the day. "Good morning you two. Normally I'd have you go on a hunting patrol." He started. "But right now, I'll need you two to go on a border patrol. Tell me if there is anything, anything at all that is out of the ordinary."

Ravenheart emphasized on that because he was nervous about the tension between them and Flareclan. However much he wanted peace above all, there was always something that wanted to disrupt it. He didn't want to name the clan but he was pretty sure that Torrentclan wasn't too keen on being so close to the border. They've kept low ever since he was born so he never felt any need to be too wary of the cats there.

From the response he was given from Scorchheart, he was already forming somewhat of an opinion on him. His pondering about the tom's personality was quickly cut short Freezefang's shove, Toadflight stumbled a little, wincing as he carefully stepped back so that he wasn't pushed into the edge of the warriors den. He already looked like a living moss ball, he didn't want to add brambles and branches to that mix, as well. He was a little stunned as he just watched Freezefang walk away, before he tilted his head, and his expression showed mild irritation. "...Are you serious?" He growled in exasperation. He then stepped out of the warriors den after the pair.

The initial anger at Freezefang slipped away fairly quickly as he instead turned his gaze to the rest of the camp, taking in a calming breath of the peaceful air. The smell of the fresh kill pile was tempting, and his head turned subconsciously towards the scent, a smile curling onto his expression as he entertained a daydream about lunging into the pile and eating what he could. Unfortunately, that daydream was crushed by the upsetting realization that others needed to eat too. His dopey smile dropped and let out a bit of a disappointed whine, before sulking his way over to the deputy, who appeared to be conversing with Freezefang herself. Toadflight was still trying to get a good read on her personality, and so far, he deemed it pretty vile. But, then again, maybe he was a little bias due to one encounter.

Still, could never be too careful. "Anything for me, boss?" Toadflight chimed in, paws kneading against the ground, in either apprehension or excitement, it was hard to tell. He didn't really want anything too physically taxing, it would just ruin his, admittedly already poor, day. But, rarely did he get a day when he found himself able to just lounge around and not be noticed by his clanmates.

Freezefang
A border patrol, she thought, I do like those. Freezefang turned back to look at her brother, who seemed distracted else where. She narrowed her eyes to focus on where his attention was to see he was watching Fallenstar and Koipaw. Dear brother, useless friendships will get you no where, she thought before turning her attention back to Ravenheart. Before she could ask if the deputy wanted anyone else to go with them, Toadflight had approached. The she-cat turned to watch his exchange, before butting in.

"I would love to get started on that patrol, so excuse me Toadflight. Did you wish me to bring another cat along?" she asked Ravenheart with her most earnest voice. She started considering her options of cats she could bring along. Perhaps Owlwhisper or Storktail? I believe Ratnose is avaliable, though he can be rather cranky, she thought.

Scorchheart
The sleek, black tom watched his friend with mismatched eyes. Koipaw seemed to be having a pleasant moment with Fallenstar and it made Scorchheart slightly envious. He wished so much to join her on training and to not have the responsibilities of a warrior that had been thrown upon him.He hated that he was so meek and felt that Fallenstar had made the wrong choice in making him a warrior so soon. He felt eyes watch him, but as he turned back his sister had faced forward.

Great, now she will lecture me later, he thought with an inward sigh. The tom turned his attention away from Koipaw and her happy life as an apprentice. He felt bad for being envious of her when he knew she worked so hard to try and fit in after what has occurred in her life. Still, he felt like he would rather of had no family than a sister as cold as ice.

Ravenheart turned to the tom who had approached him as well. Since he had already sent two patrols out, he wouldn't need Toadflight to a border patrol. Perhaps he could go on a hunting patrol? Ah, but with who? The other warriors were already assigned to other things and the ones that were idling around were cats that he was saving for later hunting patrols.

Before he could answer the tom, Freezefang had butted in to ask if she should take someone else. He took a moment as he looked around. "If you wish to have another, then please do take another one." He nodded at her before flicking his tail to tell her that she and her brother was dismissed for now. He'd learned that none of the cats held it against him if he did that - it wasn't much of a show of authority but more of a silent conversation. His eyes landed on Scorchheart who seemed a little distracted for whatever reason. These two siblings had a relationship that he didn't quite understand - perhaps it was because he was not part of any litter in this clan.

Once the two left, he turned to Toadflight and cleared his throat. "Anyway, you can stand by for now. I'll call on you later for a hnting patrol." He watched as the morning hunting patrols departed. Good, they still have quite an amount of fresh kill but that would surely dwindle given time. It was best that they go on now before it was too late. He was eagerly awaiting the report from the earlier patrol that he had sent out.

Toadflight acknowledged Freezefang's comment with a mere flick of his ears, not thinking it needed much more of a response than that. He sat idly by while Ravenheart spoke to Freezefang, ear gently twitching, expression a fair neutral. As the deputy turned back to him, his ears simply perked up, though he didn't seem to grow more alert in the deputy's presence. He rumbled out a low purr as he found out his task for the day: Nothing. A good solid day of sitting by, exactly what he had wanted. Of course, there was still the promise that Ravenheart would collect him up for a hunting patrol later, but why bother? There were plenty of healthy and optimistic warriors still sleeping in the den, who would be completely rested up by the time said hunting patrol rolled around, instead of poor, tired old Toadflight.

Call him lazy, call him bias, but in his eyes, Toadflight was not only thinking for the better of himself, he was also thinking of the best for his clan. He just had to convince Ravenheart to believe the same.

"You know me too well, Ravenheart. You know, I wouldn't be opposed to not doing anything all day, if it ever so happens that you suddenly don't need a particular tom on a particular hunting patrol. Just keep that in mind." Toadflight purred out, already turning to make his way to the fresh kill pile. There was no use going hungry all day waiting for the hunting patrol, he needed his strength for all the sleeping he was planning on getting done today! So, on his way across the clearing, while worries of the elders and queens weren't exactly far from his mind, he still was debating on what prey to pick out, and whether or not he should revert back to his apprentice habits and bring their elders some prey.

Three... four... five... only five? Pebblestep rocked back onto his haunches, counting again. Hmm, only five heads of tansy, very little lungwort, and no poppy whatsoever. The medicine cat knew he had run low on stores, but to think so many essential herbs had run dry. Well, that's what happens when cats got sick, especially as sick as Fallenstar had gotten over the past moon. He sighed to himself, and looked over the storage. He'd need more moss for water, as well as mouse bile to clean the elders of ticks, which the medicine cat had no doubt Koipaw would be doing sometime soon. After all, can't have those little blood suckers on cats when leafbare hits. Let's see... moss can be found just about anywhere, lungwort could be found most commonly in the general Wispclan territory, but poppy and tansy were more common in the forest. Perhaps the medicine cat should set an outing to the Flareclan border for some herbs. While he was there, though, he might as well see if Badgerfoot had any herbs to spare...

The medicine cat planted his front paws back on the ground. But wouldn't that make Flareclan more likely to attack? If they were low on stores, to the point where the medicine cat had to ask for extra, then that meant Wispclan was weak... Pebblestep shook his head. Clan politics weren't really his forte. His clan mattered above all else, but he'd retain dignity and find herbs on his own for now. Though it would be nice if there was a way to make plants grow in predictable spots, the tom would have to deal with foraging for now. Standing up, he quietly shuffled his piles back into their rightful spots in his storage. Glancing briefly at his untouched nest, the medicine cat neglected sleep and turned to leave the den, stepping into the camp clearing.

Looking about, his eyes immediately landed on the twins. One of them, the bright white one, radiated an... aura, Pebblestep would say. Something about her, her overly cheery nature, the glint in her eyes, always set his fur on edge. Freezefang, he had concluded a while ago, was not a good sign. In contrast, Scorchheart looked meek and tiny, almost like a kit following his mother around. Their eyes unsettled him. Their birth was even more uncanny. Two stillborn siblings, and matching mirrored eyes. It was unnatural. It was wrong. Pebblestep had spoken the loudest against them staying with the clan. He believed them to be an omen, a beacon of bad luck and ill will.

Not that the superstitious medicine cat didn't have other hang-ups about other clan cats, either. Koipaw was on that list. The leader, falling ill and losing a life shortly after apprenticing the cat? Surely that wasn't a coincidence. Koipaw didn't give off a malicious aura like Freezefang did, though. Perhaps there was something redeeming about the apprentice, that the white warrior didn't have. Perhaps Fallenstar's loss of a life was punishment enough for Starclan for... whatever might be the reason behind Koipaw being a reason to punish the clan. Pebblestep's curly fur had bristled as he thought, his gaze narrowing to an almost glare, though he had a rather apathetic look in his eyes regardless. It was too early to tell, however, and punishing another cat that wasn't meant to be punished would only anger Starclan further. So, flicking his tail as a sign of clearing his mind, he turned and padded over to Fallenstar. The medicine cat didn't feel like talking with Freezefang right now, and she was already preoccupying Ravenheart.

Clearing his throat, Pebblestep waited to get Fallenstar's attention.

Many Wispclan cats are starting to feel their hunger and some are considering hunting the birds that hunt them. It is mid-day and the prey pile is small. There is call for action and it is the day before the gathering.

Thistlepaw sat in the shade of the medicine cat den and watched the empty camp uneasily. Ordinarily there would have been much activity during this part of the day as warriors and apprentices came in from their assignments and began selecting pieces from the fresh-kill pile, but today there were only a few cats moving slowly about, lying lethargically in their dens as they sought shelter from the burning sun. All was silent except for the ever-present wind and nothing stirred except the grass.

Personally, Thistlepaw liked the sunlight and usually would have been more than happy for the Clan camp to be quiet so that he and his mentor could get some work done, but this was too much. Greenleaf was the warmest of the seasons and the short-furred cats of WispClan were well-adapted to the heat, but this seemed exceptionally brutal. The trouble was the Clan’s hunting, or lack of it. Usually greenleaf was a season of plenty when the Clan would store up food for the leaner cold months, but there seemed to be no prey to be found. What little there was was carefully rationed and there never seemed to be enough. What energy they had was then sucked away by the relentless heat, and as the warriors spent more energy hunting for dwindling food and water, they had less energy to spare and less energy to hunt the next day.
And there was nothing Thistlepaw could do.

He lashed his tail in frustration and began to pace back and forth inside the den. He was supposed to help keep these cats healthy, but here he was watching helplessly as they threatened to waste away before his eyes. But what could he do? There wasn’t any herb that could cure hunger! Was there?
Blinking back into the gloom, the apprentice searched for his mentor to ask, but he was nowhere to be seen. He could go hunting himself, he thought. He did have some basic warrior training, after all. But Pebblestep might be displeased if he left the den unattended, and he didn’t have much hunting ability anyway.
And there were eagles.

Thistlepaw shuddered at the thought of the fierce flying beasts and shoved the thought away. He hated the fearsome creatures with their sun-blotting wings, grasping talons and slashing beaks, and those eyes that could spot a cat from the sky. Warriors had reported being attacked by them as they hunted, even nearly losing young apprentices to them. Were these rumors or tall tales, intended to impress or frighten the other cats? Maybe, but maybe not. It wasn’t worth taking the chance. No, unless it was absolutely necessary, Thistlepaw had no intention of leaving camp until the vicious birds were gone.
He didn’t want to think about the trip to the Gathering that night.

This was miserable

Koipaw tucked her muzzle beneath her paw and gave an exasperated sigh. The past few days had just been awful and dreadfully hot. Worst of all, there had been little prey - likely chased into burrows by the heat! Even the she-cat, usually eager to go out and hunt or focus on her training, had absolutely no desire to leave the shaded area of her den. She didn't doubt that the wind would help cool her down a bit, but without any shade it wouldn't do very much.

"I'm so hungry," She muttered, though to no one in particular. She missed having Scorchheart's company within the den. It seemed like she didn't see as much of him, since she always accompanied her mentor, and she was sure he had his warrior tasks to take care of. Ever since he had received his warrior name, she felt a sense of loneliness whenever she was within the den.

Thistlepaw. Her thoughts went to the young tom just as she saw his black and white form. If he had went the path of a warrior, he would be sharing a den with her! Of course, she didn't know very much about the apprentice. Koipaw had spent more of her time around Scorchheart and Freezefang when she was a kit, and the fact that she had an over-protective adoptive mother certainly didn't help the case. Still, she appreciated the medicine cat apprentice's company when she did get the chance.

Sluggishly sitting up, she began making her way to the young apprentice. She slowed down as she looked around for Pebblestep - she didn't think he liked her very much - but without him in sight, she continued on her path to the other apprentice. "Thistlepaw, good morning," She greeted, her voice laced with enthusiasm despite her exhausted appearance, "Want to go to the stream to get a drink with me?" She'd go by herself, but her mentor never seemed fond of the idea of her leaving camp by herself. Of course, it was understandable, especially with the excess amount of birds that were around lately, thanks to the lack of prey. Surely it would be fine with the company of another apprentice though?

There was only so much he could do to try and keep the hunger away. Ravenheart knew he was failing at his duty as a deputy. Their fresh kill pile was on an all new low despite it being Greenleaf. He had sent out a hunting party earlier on and they came back with yet another failed hunt. They only managed to bring back three voles and the pile didn't seem to be rising. The deputy paced back and forth in the clearing - the heat not even sapping his energy away yet. He was too worried about the prey pile to even remember to worry about himself. While he and Fallenstar talked about it, they found out that there was little they can do. They had contemplated whether or not it was a good idea to hunt the other predators but it seemed only like a dream to even catch one of those.

He stopped before his claws extended and dug into the ground. He was getting frustrated just pacing around. Looking around, he noticed Koipaw heading towards the medicine cat's den. He knew things about Thistlepaw that even the young apprentice didn't know about himself. Ah, but no need to worry about that. Not yet anyway. Seeing as there were no other cats that seemed to be completely aware of their surroundings, he headed inside. He wouldn't bothered them for too long. "Thistlepaw, Koipaw, if anyone asks where I am, tell them I went out to hunt." He then paused. He noticed that Thistlepaw was also rather frustrated and Koipaw had invited him to go to the stream with her.

"You two are going to the stream? Perfect! I'll accompany you." The deputy would act as their guardian to the stream, considering the influx of eagles around their general area, and he could do some hunting in between. Fallenstar was here anyway so the lack of deputy wouldn't bother a lot of the cats right? He personally wanted to do something about this lack of prey and he'll do it even if he had to fill it up one rabbit at a time... or whatever prey he could get his paws on. However, he was quite hungry himself but he pushed aside the thought for now. He needed to put the other cats before himself after all.

When Thistlepaw looked around the camp again, he was alarmed to see one of the other cats coming towards him. He hurriedly searched again for his mentor, hoping that they were just going to see him, but he was alone in the den. Could he slip back in and hope to avoid them in that way? Probably not, the cat had obviously seen him. Now that she was closer, he recognised her as Koipaw. She wasn’t so bad, he thought. It could have been worse, such as that white she-cat with the scary eyes. He didn’t know Koipaw very well, but at least she was friendly.

Her suggestion was a good one, but the thought made him uneasy and he unconsciously dug his claws into the earth. He had a sudden vision of a bird swooping down and snatching them both away, or worse still, snatching Koipaw while he watched helplessly from the ground. The terrible creatures were the stuff of nightmares, his nightmares, and the thought of the two of them encountering one without a nearby warrior was a daunting thought. But he wouldn’t admit that to the young she-cat, nor to any of the cats in the Clan. They would think him weak and a coward. Some of the cats already acted strangely around him, so he had no intention of giving them more reason to stare at him during whispered conversations that abruptly ended if he came nearby.

“Good morning, Koipaw.” he said with a polite dip of the head, though his tone was reserved. “I would, but uhhh…” He looked around and pointed toward the back of the den with his tail. “Pebblestep is out right now, and so I should probably stay here with the den. Make sure nothing happens. And besides, there aren’t any… warriors…”
As he ended his final sentence, he saw Ravenheart striding straight towards them. His claws dug again and his tail began to twitch as he felt a sudden burst of irritation. To be bothered by one cat while he was thinking was bad enough, but to be ambushed by two at once, and for them to attempt to drag him out with them was worse still. He had a sudden thought to just turn around and claim that he had critical business to attend to, but it was against his nature to lie. It was a weak one, anyway. Besides, he could hardly say no to the Clan’s deputy.

“Good morning, Ravenheart…” he answered with a monotone voice to cover his annoyance “We were just speaking of needing a warrior accompaniment.” His whiskers twitched as a small smirk crossed his face and he made a dry attempt at humor. “I suppose you weren’t expecting to mentor two apprentices today.”

Thistlepaw's reply seemed to disappoint the young apprentice, her demeanor drooping ever so slightly at his excuse. Well, it was a good excuse, she supposed. Just as she was about to respond, however, Ravenheart provided them with a task before realizing what they were talking about. There was a slight hint of disappointment at his offer - or rather, decision to accompany them. Of course, it wasn't that she didn't like the deputy. After all, he had temporarily mentored her after Fallenstar had fallen ill shortly after first becoming an apprentice. But the idea of going out on her own without anyone to boss her around..well, it certainly sounded appealing.

Koipaw's ears perked up at Thistlepaw's sudden change in decision, making her forget about the fact. Perhaps the presence if a Warrior changed his mind, but regardless she was pleased with the potential change. "So you'll go with us," Koipaw asked the apprentice, her eyes sparkling with newfound excitement. "We can even bring some moss to bring back water for Pebblestep, if you think he might like that! I'm sure he'd be fine with his apprentice leaving for just a short while to get a drink and cool off. We'll only be gone for a short while - we can escort you back to the camp if you don't want to go hunting afterwards either!"

It seemed like the stubborn young she-cat was intent on getting the only other apprentice to accompany them, and wouldn't be taking no for an answer quite so easily.

Ravenheart's tail swished behind him in happiness, completely betraying his forced neutral expression. Being around the apprentices always put him at ease since they don't expect much from him. He would only look like a mentor - just like any other warrior. He didn't like acting as the deputy when it's only just them. Koipaw would know all about that since he had mentored the younger cat for a while because Froststar had become sick at that time. He acted like what a mentor would act but he at least had a bit more freedom on his actions. He won't have to become a model for other cats as he was the deputy; he was just Ravenheart.

"It's fine Thistlepaw. You two are responsible little apprentices anyhow." He said in a rather straight-laced tone but now with a smile. Actually, they were practically the only apprentices they had right now. They have to grow a bit faster since everyone's anticipating Koipaw's induction as a warrior. Ravenheart remembered being told of Koipaw's half-clan blood and he couldn't have been more excited than he was already. There was someone else like him. Though, he already knew of yet another cat whose origins isn't within the clan. Though that was to be kept a secret, until he was ready, Thistlepaw's father told him when he had confronted the Tom. "I know both of you aren't that reckless."

He then turned to Koipaw. "And don't worry, I'll just be there to protect you should there be a predator around. I know that having a warrior around is a little choking... I was an apprentice too you know." He knew that look on Koipaw's face when he announced that he would be going with them. He was like that back when he was an apprentice. Too reckless, they would often say. Oh, the memories. They weren't all that good but they were fun, at the very least.

"Whenever you two are ready." He said before pacing just outside before sitting down. He won't be rushing the apprentices. After all, they just gave him an opportunity to get out of the camp without any other warrior to look to him for some form of leadership. Hopefully, they wouldn't tell anyone about how he's acting.

Owlwhisker huffed from his place at the edge of the warrior's de., looking at the deputy and the two apprentices interact. He didn't bother going up to check what they were doing, nor what they were talking about. While the warrior enjoyed gossip, he doubted he'd have much interest in the conversation. Probably something to do about the heat or some sort of training.

He flicked his ear before rising up to stretch. The heat was unbearable. He'd rather get up and feel the wind in his fur than stay in camp all day. There wasn't anything to do besides nap anyway and it was simply too hot to sleep. Owlwhisker padded up to Ravenheart. "I'm going to go out and see if I can catch anything," he paused to explain before turning towards the camp entrance. He doubted that he would, but he might as well make himself useful.

Thistlepaw felt his irritation relent a bit at Koipaw’s enthusiasm and attempted what he hoped was a friendly smile. He had become a very stoic and taciturn young cat after his father’s death, only speaking to other cats when necessary and preferring his work and studies to playful antics. However, though he had always been somewhat solemn, he could remember romping and laughing with the other cats when he was a kit. Perhaps he missed that… At any rate, he had no wish to squash the other cat’s joy even if he couldn’t feel it himself.

“Yes, I will do that. We always need moss. For wounds, and beds, and water, and… Things.”
The words were halting and awkward, making the cat turn his head away and scowl at the ground in frustration and annoyance. It seemed so easy for the other cats to chatter away endlessly like a flock of birds until he wanted to pounce on them and shout “QUIET!!!” into their faces. The only reason he didn’t was that it would probably be frowned upon. But why, then, was it so difficult for him to form a simple coherent sentence with these two cats that were obviously trying to be friendly? He glanced at the deputy sideways through slightly narrowed eyes. Was he being too friendly? Was his tone almost condensending? Thistlepaw wasn’t certain and almost refused to go just to spite him, but decided against it. He didn’t know Ravenheart well enough to recognise his behavior and knew it would be foolish for an apprentice to spite the deputy of his Clan, he-who-would-be-leader, unnecessarily. Mentally, however, he promised himself that he would not be patronised.

The young tom stood up with all the dignity he could muster, though he was aware that his scrawny limbs and fur that stubbornly refused to lay straight did little to help him. He wished that he’d spend more time grooming before he left, but after the third attempt he’d finally given up. However, he still lifted his chin and stared straight at the two other cats, daring them to make fun of him. He didn’t chase after the older cat, not wanting to seem too eager, but waited for Koipaw to leave before following. To cover his reluctance, he declared “I’d stay and hunt with you, Ravenheart, but… I can’t. But I’ll go get some water with you two, since you asked.”
