Windjammer

The local Devil Ship
It was a beautiful Monday morning in southern California as the rather eccentric Greenwoode family prepared to go to work and school. The father had already left and the children were only moments away from boarding the school bus. The last to leave is usually the mother, who often makes sure the house is locked up. Her last task before leaving is to make one final check on their many pet parrots. She goes from one cage to the next, telling each bird a small goodbye for the day, and checking each individual lock. She then turns on a radio and a small tv in the bird room to help keep the birds entertained. As she is leaving, the birds are doing various things, such as chewing a toy, or nibbling on their breakfast. One bird, a Greenwing Macaw named Lucky Luciano, is doing a little more than eating his breakfast.

Lucky Luciano, often simply called Lucky, is watching every little move the humans are making. He does this so he can be absolutely sure that he and his fellow parrots are the only ones in the house. Just a few more minutes, and i can open all the cages. He thought to himself. Lucky is an accomplished lock picker and puzzle solver, a skill which he often puts to use to get out of trouble, or pilfer through the pantry, and since his large cage sits near a window that overlooks the driveway, he can see every person that comes and goes. A perfect way make sure no bird gets caught doing something the humans call naughty.

In their own cage Horizon, a sunset colored Sun Conure had their feathers ruffled impatiently waiting for the humans to leave so that Lucky could unlocked their cages and allow them to have some semblance of freedom for some time. They perked their head over to peek at Lucky's cage, waiting for his signal that it was play time. The conure took it's gaze away from the other's cage and simply nibbled at some seed in their food tray as they awaited the unlocking of their cage.

Before leaving the mother changed Stormie out of her sweater and into a poncho which she had already started pulling at anxiously knowing the family was leaving. Having only been with the family for a few weeks now she was still getting used to their routines, as well as the other birds.
With the 'goodbye' she was given a bit of apple which she accepted with a sad chirp. As soon as she finished the apple she went back to pulling at the poncho.

Lucky watched trough the window as the mother loaded herself in the car and drive away.
He had heard Cheesecake practically demand to be let out of her cage.

"Alright alright, Im coming. You can't wait five more seconds can you?"

He spoke somewhat jokingly as he picked his lock like an expert safe cracker. Soon enough, the lock was open, and Lucky Luciano was out of his cage. He immediaty went over to Cheesecake's cage and picked her lock and opened the cage.

"There you go, roam to your heat's content."

Lucky then called out to everyone else.

"Ok, im gonna unlock you all and we have the place to ourselves till 3:00 or so."

Piewoo silently sat in the back of the cold cage, watching as mother exited through the door. His eyes were troubled, squinting, he was practically itching to get out of his cage. Piewoo simply nodded at Lucky's words, the dark broody little bird didn't want his friends to see that he was excited to play. After all, who wants a tag along? Piewoo flapped onto a wooden perch, spread a wing then pruned and picked his fluffy feathers. "Why does it always have to be three o'clock?" He began, "I mean, why does the family always stay out till three you think?"
