giphy.gif
The Hidden World is full of Ayakashi both powerful and weak. Now, thanks to that human ogre bride, humans have been making their way into the Hidden World via kidnappings. This is for sure to make the Ayakashi tempted and go wild.

Not all Ayakashi are like this though. Enter the Kajin-ya Inn and Dance School. Kajin-ya has become a well known dance school for those who want to be professional dancers in the capital. It’s also home to where very elegant and expensive glassware is made for the capital, but they do not do custom pieces unless someone gives the Mistress of Kajin-ya a cherished secret.

With all the chaos going on now in the Hidden Realm, can the Kajin-ya Inn and Dance school keep up with the competition? Or are they destined to crumble and close their doors?

Terms to Know:
Tenjin-ya
Orio-ya
Hachiyo: Means the god and ruler of the land. i.e.: Ranmaru is the Hachiyo of the southern land even though Ougon-douji is the mistress innkeeper. If anything happens in the southern lands, it is to be reported to Ranmaru who will then go and solve the issue.

Characters from the anime will be referenced from time to time, but can be found within the links. I know the plot doesn't seem like much, but my co-GM Mooniee Mooniee and I agreed that it leaves for things to happen. Plus, this is our rp, not just mine.

Mistress Mitsuha
Mitsuha.png

"You are hereby banished from the Eternal Realm, Mitsuha." a loud bright light called out, it's voice filling the entire space and reverberating through her entire body. Brown eyes looked up in horror, looking at the other glowing orbs of light that surrounded her and seemed to shine down on her. Most wouldn't be able to look at the eternal beings like she was now, but being one of the eternal beings herself and able to bend light as her will, she was able to see the voices were coming from without losing her eye sight.

Her body shook with fear, tears streaming down her face. She was clearly disheveled with her hair sticking to her face, her clothes torn, and scrapes and bruises covering her body. Mitsuha looked frantically around herself and covered herself up the best that she could.

"The Kirin everyone loves has fallen!"
"Serves her right! You can't do what she did and not get punished!"

Phrases like these were shot at the woman and the light that was so blinding soon disappeared. She was surrounded by complete and utter darkness. She was alone and she was cold now. Why was she being punished like this? No one wanted to listen to her side of the story and now she was here. Where was here exactly?

Slowly she stood up, her body aching and fighting for her to stay down. "H-hello?"

In an instant, brown eyes opened and looked around quickly, her heart was beating out of her chest and she was in a cold sweat. She looked around to see her room, a sense of calm washing over her. She lifted a hand to push the pink hair on her forehead back and close her eyes. "The same dream for a week straight." This same dream had been plaguing her and she wasn't sure what she had done now to be receiving such treatment, but she was really getting tired of it.

Mitsuha sat up from her futon, getting out and looking behind herself at the closed door. She stood and went over to the door, opening it and smiling at the blue eyes that looked back at her. She closed the door behind her and sighed softly.

When she reemerged, she was dressed in a white yukata that was cut to show her legs better and for her to move easier. Her yukata was decorated in gold flowers and pink accents, a blue hair piece that looked like a bright light was placed to hold some of her hair from her face. She checked her complexion in her in the mirror and made sure that she looked presentable and lightly slapped her face. "Today's going to be a great day!" she said to herself with a smile and nodded. Her next mission was to go find something Kousetsu to see if he had anything for her to eat and see if the rest of the staff was awake as well.

"Mistress Mitsuha!" a voice called to her and when she turned to look at where the voice came from, she saw three little ogre children bowing to her. She smiled softly and bowed back, greeting them. "Good morning little ones! You're up early this morning. Did you all sleep well?" They all nodded when they stood up and smiled as big as they could to her. "Yes! Mommy and daddy said that we're going to stay an extra day too! Please take care of us!"

Mitsuha could only laugh and nod, waving goodbye to the kids. "Now still to the kitchen. I'm starving." she sighed softly and looked up at the ceiling of the inn as she walked. "I wonder where Hakuo is....he's usually the first one I see in the morning."

Approaching closer to his mistress' quarters, Hakuo heard a familiar voice, a voice he knew all too well. "Good morning little ones! You're up early this morning. Did you all sleep well?" Although the voice was distant, Hakuo could clearly identify it with his large fox ears. It was most definitely Mitsuha.

"Yes! Mommy and daddy said that we're going to stay an extra day too! Please take care of us!" Hakuo had heard three voices respond; which he figure were most likely children from their tone and language. As the voices grew more loud and clear with Hakuo's every step, Hakuo stopped in his tracks as three small ogre children ran past him, briefly bowing to him on their way. "Good morning Young Master Hakuo!" They chimed all in unison. Smiling, the fox then gave a slight nod.

"Good morning. Be careful running on these slippery floors." The fox smiled kindly.

"Thank you Young Master Hakuo! We will!" The children replied — their loud rambunctious footsteps accompanying them as they exited.

Turning to the corner of the hallway, he saw the great innkeeper of Kajin-ya, pondering about as she looked up at the ceiling.

"Good morning, Mistress Mitsuha" Hakuo bowed in respect, wearing a gentle smile on his face. He then stared at Mitsuha, his eyes sparkling with admiration and passion. "You are as beautiful as ever today. Indeed, just like the delicate Sakura in the spring, blossoming under the sun's holy light." He continued, almost as if speaking to himself.

Yokkai Girl 2.jpgA yawn escaped her lips as Ai navigated the hallways - her goal being the kitchen. The heavenly call of coffee drew her from her chambers. It was required of her to wake up this early, but it gave her time to relax before the day really started. Once it did, there surely would be brats running amuck, their parents having disappeared to who knows where. That didn’t even account for whatever shenanigans her coworkers had come up with that day. She released a sigh and pushed back a strand of hair had come loose from her clip. She could already feel a stress headache coming on.

Only moments after she had cleared her mind of complaints, the aforementioned brats came stampeding past her, only stopping momentarily to say their good mornings. Instead of letting her face twist into the scowl it desired to, she forced her mouth up into a warm smile and repeated back, “Good morning.” They certainly started their days early. Without hesitation, she continued her quest to receive her caffeine fix.

The sound of her Zōri clacked rhythmically against the floor as she turned the corner. Even before she saw him, she could hear Hakuo’s voice spouting off some compliment. She suppressed the cringe that tried to creep up into her face. Like Sakura in the spring? Jeez, could he get any cheesier? The figure of Hakuo and the Mistress appeared before her. Only sparing a side glance to the kitsune, she focused more on Mitsuha. Hand clasped in front of her, she gave a deep bow. “Good morning, Mistress,” she greeted.

Aka Manto
aka-moe-to.jpg
Not a morning person

CRRRK........CRRRK.......CRRRK

The sound of grinding bones and popping joints quietly grated from a door that slowly opened to reveal a room with barely any light, and from within, out reached out spindly, glove-clad fingers to grasp upon the doorway as the red wearing, Aka Manto ducked beneath the overhead rail. Long legs in black jeans slowly trudged forward into the waking world, both slowly and without full balance returned to them. He supposed his significantly more modern and urban attire would be rather strange since most of the other staff wore significantly more traditional clothing, but he couldn't say no to the snugness of a hoodie and the comfort of mildly loose-fitting jeans [and, of course, his indoor sneakers]. Aka Manto was most certainly not a morning person in the least. But of course, how could he resist the temptations of breakfast food? Ever a slave to his own desires, the red-clad spirit meandered forth towards the holy land of resplendence, better known as the kitchen.

With no shortage of typicality, children acted as children do tend to act. So it was no surprise for the three little ogrelings nearly collided into him as he stepped from around the corner... nearly. And just as is typical of the ever mischievous Aka Manto, the tall figure dressed in blazing crimson loomed over the young ones, and as his head slowly tilted to a grinding crackle of spine, the yokai promptly whispered "Boo," before promptly twisting his head upside-down with a sharp crack, prompting several yelps and scattered running.

Kikikikikikiki...

The hissing laughter of the spirit quietly reverberated in the hallway as Aka Manto continued to follow the prospect of something to fill his appetite.

Ah, he could hear the sound of company already, including a bizarre b-movie type of pick up line from what would unmistakably be guessed as Hakuo, a person truly worthy of the title of a Mistress' Dog. He couldn't help but cackle in his mind to his own thoughts. Lady Mitsuha had to be there as well, then, no doubt. A significantly more reserved and mature greeting came in the voice of Miss Nishio. For a brief moment, one hand to the chin of his mask in pondering, the other stuffed in the pocket of his morning hoodie [incidentally also his sleeping hoodie], Aka pondered on his own morning greetings. Bringing a righteous fist down upon his right hand palm in a moment of brilliance, he figured out exactly the most proper greeting he could give!

Ducking into the next hallway, Aka prepared a most glorious and decadent greeting:

Nodding upwards in acknowledgment and saying...

"Yo!"

» 「ひとむHitomu
Kajin-ya's Front Desk Manager
A wonderful breeze ran through the entrance of the inn, carrying along the sweet scent of pollen it picked up along its travels. Bits of leaves and petals accompanied it, fluttering about elegantly until the breeze could no longer support their weight and softly dropped them at his feet. Hitomu sat adjacent to the front entrance on a decorative rock that was large enough for him to sit on, though it was always difficult for him to properly adjust his abdomen so as to not sit on it. That was always a struggle for him in any place he decided to rest, but he had grown used to this space as it was his favorite spot in the entire inn. Now he sat there in silence, bulbous maroon eyes staring at the cherry blossoms that were currently in full bloom while twirling in his hands a small oil-paper umbrella. It had a simple design, vibrant pink petals sitting along the edges until finally making their way to the umbrella’s center as if they too were being blown by the wind. His spinning of the handle had only added to this effect, though there was no one there to see it. Even so, Hitomu continued to spin it as he watched the earlier breeze carry to him the cherry blossom that he had been staring at all this time.

Leaning forward, he grabbed the petal from off the ground and examined it. It was soft and carried with it a sickenly sweet smell. Intrigued by its scent, Hitomu did what any other person would, open up his mandibles and ate it. Despite its appearance, it took on a salty taste in his mouth causing him to jump a little in surprise. Swallowing the petal, Hitomu let out a deep breath before reaching into his sweater pocket and pulling out a thick leaf which he plopped into his mouth. Delicious, he thought to himself as the lingering salty taste was slowly being overpowered by the earthy flavor of the mulberry leaves. Tossing another one in his mouth, he couldn’t help but notice a pair of curious eyes staring at him. Glancing over, he discovered that the pair of eyes belonged to a young kappa dressed in the signature robes of the inn, the little fella seemingly interested in what was in his pocket. With his mouth full, Hitomu simply pulled out two more large leaves and put one in his mouth before putting the leaf in his beak, only to instantly spit it out. Hitomu couldn’t keep himself from laughing, almost choking in the process.

“This is gross mister! How can you eat that stuff?” the kappa asked while gagging. In all honesty, Hitomu was a little hurt by his comment and how violently he reacted to his favorite food, though he tried not to let it get to him.

“Well, where I come from, the people I live with love these leaves. Though I guess it does take some getting used to.” he agreed knowing that it wasn’t to everyone’s taste. Watching the child hand him back his half eaten snack, Hitomu felt it was only right of him to give the kappa something that he was sure to enjoy.

“Hmm, you know what! As an apology, how about I give you something even better?” Hitomu offered.

“No.” he rejected, Hitomu's fragile heart almost crumbling at the harshness of his tone. “If you like that leaf, then something else you like might taste just as bad.” He argued. So this is what they meant when they said children had no filters.

“Uhm, I promise it’ll be better th-”

“How do you know if I’ll like it? My dad said not to make promises you don’t know you can keep.” Another dagger in his chest. This child was a menace. Clenching one of his hands, Hitomu was determined to fix the wrong he had committed against this kid who now seemed to think everything the red moth ate was bad in some capacity.

“If you don’t like it, I’ll give you a…” Oh what do kids like? Being the youngest of his clan and only dealing with a handful of children during his time at the inn, he was still unsure of what children enjoyed getting. “Uhm, this!” He pointed to his umbrella. “If you don’t like I’ll give you my umbrella!”

“... Mister, you really don’t know what kids like do you?” he questioned, yet another knife in his chest. Although he was right, would it hurt the child to take into account his feelings? The kappa signed as he responded, “Okay, if I don’t like it I’ll take that umbrella thing.”

With both in agreement, Hitomu finally stood up from his seat and ushered the child into the entrance, opening the sliding door to reveal a large front desk covered in a green fabric with flowers stitched onto it. Telling the child to wait there, Hitomu opened the door hidden on the side desk and entered the confined space. Beneath the counter were a few shelves stacked with various items from cleaning supplies, books, and even small containers of food. Pulling out a rectangular wooden box with intricate floral patterns etched onto its sides, he carefully placed it onto the counter. The kappa was somewhat confused, but also expressed some curiosity about the hidden contents inside the box. Slowly, Hitomu lifted the top to reveal three different colored balls covered in various toppings. One was pink sprinkled with brown peanut powder, the other was green and covered in coconut shaving, and the last was white with a generous amount of sesame seeds on top. Peeking at the kappa, Hitomu gave him a white napkin and allowed him the freedom to pick whichever one he wanted.

Hesitantly, the kappa went about selecting one of the mystery balls, his eyes fixated on the green one with coconut shaving. Picking it up, the kappa was surprised by how fluffy it felt through the napkin, its shape molding to fit his hand. With a deep breath and heavy heart, the child took a large bite of the dessert and was met with a burst of flavors. His eyes sparkled as he finished the remaining bits in his napkin.

“How was it?” Hitomu asked.

The kappa, somewhat embarrassed, handed him back the napkin and replied, “... You can keep the umbrella.” Soon after, the child darted down the hall, presumably back to his parents, completely avoiding Hitomu’s gaze.

“Bye! If you want anymore feel free to stop by the front desk again! I promise I’ll have something more yummy for you!” he promised, smiling brilliantly as the Kappa made a sharp right turn at the cross section. Kids weren’t so scary after all. Having settled that, Hitomu went about preparing himself for another exciting day of work as he put away his secret box of mochi. They were an experimental batch he had received from Kousetsu who, known for his hatred of wasting food, allowed Hitomu to have them. All alone once again, Hitomu made himself comfortable. Having been up since the early morning, the moth had indulged himself in eating the mulberry leaves he collected from home for both his midnight snack and his breakfast. Now that the sun was up, maybe he’d go to the kitchen for a proper meal, but his fear of fire kept him stationed at his desk. It was fine, it’s not as if he needed to eat that much anyway. He was just happy that he could work here with everyone, and thankful that Mrs. Mitsuha gave him such a wonderful position at her inn. Content with himself, Hitomu tidied up his sweater and fluffed up his fur, ready to receive any and all customers. Afterall, what else was a front desk manager supposed to do?

Kousetsu.

“If Miss Mitsuha stops by, inform her that I’ve stepped out briefly.”

A newcomer nearly dropped his plate, feeling scandalized at Kousetsu’s barely respectful manner of addressing the mistress of the inn. His senior, in comparison, merely grunted an affirmative, too used to the enenra’s antics. Without another word, Kousetsu stepped out of the kitchen which was already buzzing busily with activity early in the morning.

Having confirmed breakfast orders early, the enenra had thought to personally deliver breakfast to the Mistress while the kitchen staff handled any remaining preparations. However, the high likelihood of running into the young master changed his route from the Mistress’s quarters to the front desk. He didn’t feel like playing with a puppy, and he still owed a certain shinchu a favor for taking an extra batch of sweets off of his hands.

Suddenly, a gust of wind sent Kousetsu’s smoke wisps wildly spiraling around him, and three balls of fur barreled onto his leg. Unsurprised by the sudden assault, the enenra peered down at the fuzzy mass attached to his leg with lips quirked upwards in amusement. As they had with the previous two days, the kamaitachi triplets blinked back up at him expectantly, with two digging their claws into his robes and the third child balanced on top of her older brothers.

“Old man! Sweets!” three high-pitched voices demanded in tandem. Each child’s words were perfectly layered on top of each other like a single voice with not the slightest hint of an echo. However, the youngest piped up boldly to add, “-but not yesterday’s. Those tasted weird.”

Not nearly as amused as their master, the smoke wisps shook their tails violently as if scolding the children for not only disturbing their rest but also for insulting Kousetsu’s cooking. In turn, three pink tongues blew raspberries at the wisps in perfectly synchronized rhythmic movements. With a good natured laugh, Kousetsu soothed his smoke wisps’ anger with one hand while gently prying off the claws clinging to his robes with the other.

Having freed the white cloth from the troublemakers’ clutches, Kousetsu lightly flicked the forehead of the closest child. “Even monkeys fall out of trees, you insolent little things.”

Triplet One blinked dumbly with a paw covering his forehead. Triple Two tilted her furry head and asked, “What do monkeys have to do with anything?” After a haughty huff, Triplet Three continued where his younger sister had left off: “You’re saying weird things again.”

Kousetsu made a face, feigning irritation at their attitudes, but still proceeded to reach into the folds of his clothes. When he brought his hand back out, three glass bottles hung off of his fingers on colored threads. Inside the bottles, colorful star-shaped candies clinked with soft, bell-like rings each time they rolled about. The bottles of konpeito were swiped from his hands and closely inspected as soon as he lowered them into the range of the children’s reach.

“They were a gift, but you may take them. Now scram.” Paying no mind to their lack of manners, Kousetsu casually waved his now free hand at the triplets. Having had no time the night before to make extra sweets to ward off any misbehaving children, the unconsumed candies had caught his eye. As he had mentioned to the triplets, he wouldn’t miss them. They were mere balls of sugar, after all.

A quick thank you and two shakes of three tails later, the triplets rode another whirlwind and scurried back down the halls to cause mischief elsewhere. In a similar, though far calmer, manner, Kousetsu nodded and continued on his way until a familiar insectoid figure came into view.

Standing a tactful distance away due to his smoke, Kousetsu called out to the shinchu, “Good morning. Will you be eating breakfast today?” Eyeing Hitomu who was already comfortably seated in his station ready to work, the smoke spirit touched Susumaru thoughtfully.

“It is still early for new guests, but I can leave my familiar to keep watch for you,” he added. From the looks of it, the shinchu was likely to turn him down. Still, it couldn’t hurt to offer a few compromises.

Mistress Mitsuha
Mitsuha.png

Brown eyes went to the source of the all to familiar voice and a smile graced her lips. "Good morning to you too, Hakuo. What a wonderful little analogy! Are the preparations ready for our special guest that will be joining us today? I believe it's the god of fire, Hinokagutsuchi. He's an old friend of mine." she said and tapped on her chin. "It's been ages since I've seen him too."

Her attention then turned to the Hannya before her. She let out a soft giggle and nodded. "Good morning to you too, Ai. Did you sleep well?" Mitsuha was quite fond of her staff and viewed them as her own little family that she was able to take in. After all, she only hired those who she seemed as worthy and had something hidden within them that they themselves did not see yet.

Two of her staff members were awake, but what about the rest of her staff? She looked around and let out a soft sigh. She figured that Hitomu was already awake and tending to the front of the house. Koutetsu had hopefully already had breakfast ready for them or else he would be getting an extra load of dishes that would keep him busy for the next 500 million years.

That only left Aka....the little creeky janitor. She jumped a bit when she heard Aka call to them and she only turned to them. "Good morning, Aka. Scare the little ones yet?" she asked with a sigh and turned her back to them. "Well then, let us head for the kitchen to see if that no good Koutetsu made breakfast."

The thought of the smoke demon made her head hurt and she had just woken up. Why did he have to cause such feelings in her? There were so many things to get done today and it was only the time of early morning. Being a mistress of an innkeeper, dance school, and glass maker for the royals in Youto was stressful and could be such a pain, but this was the life that she herself made for herself to keep her mind off of everything else in the horrible demon filled world around her.

She hummed softly while wearing a small smile on her face as she led the way to the kitchen. "Mistress! Mistress!" A voice called to her and she turned to look at where the voice was coming from and saw that it was one of the bath maidens rushing to her. "Yes? What is it?" she asked with a tilt of her head and looked down at the female water demon. The woman bowed to her and Mitsuha only bore a smile. She reached out and put a hand on her shoulder. The girl looked up with tears in her eyes.

"There's no hot water for the baths! The water heater is down and we've tried fixing it and combining all of our powers for even two of the baths is draining all of us....oh Mistress what will we do?" Mitsuha blinked and looked back at Hakuo and Aka.

"Ok, don't cry for such a silly thing, dear. I'll lend my powers to heat the baths. The roof of the baths should be able to open revealing the natural sunlight. I'll bend some of the rays so it heats up the bath and make your jobs easier. But remember that when Hinokagutsuchi comes, he can heat his own water. Oh, and I'd like for you to use a citrus bath for when he comes. It'll have a nice soothing smell as well as relax his body and de-stress him."

She turned to Hakuo and put her hands together. "Hakuo, after breakfast will you go see if we can't get those water heaters fixed? You too, Aka. It'll be draining on me as well if I have to use my powers for too long as well as teach dance lessons and make some of the glassware. Oh, and remind me to see if Hitomu has any new designs I can add to the new glasses as well." She turned her attention back to the water demon before her and smiled.

"That should do for now, don't you agree?" she asked and the female nodded, wiping her eyes and wrapping her arms around Mitsuha. "Yes, thank you, Mistress!" Mitsuha laughed and shook her head. "It's no problem at all. Go tell the others what I said as well make sure you are all staying fed and hydrated. Today is going to be a big day, I can already tell."

With that little disaster out of the way, she proceeded finally to the kitchen. Upon reaching it, she found Koutetsu no where to be found. She could feel a vein popping from her forehead but retained her smile. "And where is our dear Koutetsu?" she asked with a tilt of her head. The kitchen staff all looked at the Mistress and bowed, the one he left the message to informing her of his leave. She gripped the wall next to her and gave it a squeeze, cracking the wall a bit and sighing softly. At least he had breakfast prepped so no extra dishes for him. "Well then....give him my best regards when he gets back. I'll serve breakfast up."

She reached back and tied her hair up, grabbing the pre made breakfast. "Back to work on the preparations for the rest of the day and breakfast for the guests. Today I want some spicy snacks as well." her movements in the kitchen were a bit slower since it had been awhile since she actually was in a kitchen.

"Why don't you help me, Ai? I haven't been in a kitchen in decades. All I need you to do is get the rest of the cutlery. Hakuo, set the table, please."

Yokkai Girl 2.jpgNishio Ai
The Mistress's compassion never failed to amaze Ai. She watched the interaction between the Kirin and the teary-eyed bath maiden. Without missing a beat, Mitsuha had a temporary solution and steps made up to fix it permanently. Ai couldn't imagine a better owner for the inn than the Mistress. While she herself was used to coming up with solutions, as her position of Young Hostess required it, she was absolutely horrible at comforting others. The response to crying was typically an awkward pat on the shoulder. God forbid they go in for a hug. Ai was not the hugging type. Even the lightest of embraces was enough to send the Hannya into panic mode.

With the crisis advert, the group continued to the kitchen where breakfast awaited them. Although Kousetsu was missing, at least he had still performed his duties. She let out a soft sigh as cracks shot up the wall Mitsuha had been gripping, once again reminding her of Mitsuha's incredible strength. One wouldn't think that such a delicate-looking woman would be capable of damaging a wall using her grip strength alone. If only that smoke demon didn't cause the Mistress so much stress, it would surely help keep the inn in better shape. She made a mental note to make a call to have the wall repaired when she had the chance.

Ai nodded her head as she was requested to retrieve the cutlery required. "Yes, of course," she responded before swiftly heading out on her mission. She didn't spend too much time in the inn's kitchen, so she wasn't familiar with every nook and cranny but she at least knew the basics. With how organized the kitchen was, it was quite easy to collect the necessary silverware. Soon, she returned to the table and carefully set down each piece of silverware. Not sure if Hitomu would be joining them, she made sure to grab a set of cutlery for him just in case.
