River sat by the backstage, pulling up the long black thigh-highs over his plump and slender legs. His manager stood beside him, tapping her foot eagerly. "River, you need to hurry it up, you're on stage in less than five minutes. It's a packed house tonight, and you need to give it your all, got it?" The man's soft blue orbs glanced upwards at the lady who was wearing a rather provocative outfit herself. But at least she didn't look like a slutty child. "Right." "I mean it River! if you mess this up you're being kicked out." She said in a harsh tone, making the grey-haired man nod quietly.

Tonight was just another night at one of the biggest strip clubs in New Orleans, where most men and their friends come to hang out and party. River was one of the more competitive strippers there and most people who visited regularly often requested River to perform. Tonight was no different.

Soon enough he got fixated into his costume, adjusted the fluffy bunny ears that were placed atop his head. His manager nodded in approval. "Perfect. Playbunnies are a classic, but they always work.." She shoved River slightly, the man getting pushed closer to the stage's entrance. "Now go,"

After about fifteen minutes of endless convincing on his friends' end, he finally agreed to join them. If he were to be honest, this would be his first time. He was not too keen on the idea of someone pole-dancing on a stage in front of him. But for the sake of his friends, he obliged. It was his welcome party after all, so why not loosen up a little and try something new.

"We're here!" said Scarlet from the driver's seat, looking back at him excitedly, "You ready?" He just nodded, opening the door to get out of the cramped car. His five other friends came out shortly after. One of them named Kennedy patted him on the back, a smug look on his face. The guy was openly gay and he came to this specific strip club every so often. Kennedy had a personal favourite, he told him earlier. But Adam could not recall the name since he was not really paying attention. Not that he really cared.

The group of five friends walked into the building. It was dark and had this unfamilar aura to him. Adam examined the interior of the place. Aside from countless framed pictures on the walls, the place was well-decorated. Kennedy led them to an empty space right in front of a stage, and reluctantly Adam sat down beside the man and Jamie, a woman friend.
"Here he comes!" Kennedy whisteled from beside him, clearly excited. Adam looked up from scrolling on his phone to a man at the entrance of the stage. He couldn't really make out who it was but he guessed it was most probably that 'personal favourite' of Kennedy's.

With a sigh, the young man carefully stepped out on stage. He wasn't wearing any shoes either, simply those thigh-highs that stopped just above his knees. They were comfortable, for the most part, but wearing a one-piece tuxedo that was rather revealing wasn't. The little dark blue tie under his chin brought out the brightness in his orbital eyes. As soon as he stepped out, a few of the men and women in the stands cheered aloud. To put it simply, River was pretty shameless for the most part. It was only when people constantly did this sort of thing did it mess with his head.

Keeping his eyes forward, River reluctantly gripped the pole in front of him, his silky flemish-coloured hair flopping to the side as he did as small entrance spin around it, red tinting his cheeks in the lightest colour. Sure, this wasn't the best way to earn money, but the job was high-paying. And...sometimes, it was a little fun. A few girls on a night-out whistled loudly. He looked in their direction and gave a soft voluptuous wink, a small, "Hm," escaping his lips as he started to get into it. There were nights where he was just too tired to commit to something like this, but honestly, tonight felt different. The ladies from before cheered, obviously tipsy. His gaze landed on a group of people in front of him. There seemed to be a few other men and a couple women. They all seemed to be out together, conversing and simply enjoying the show being put on in front of them.

However, when River's eyes landed upon a certain brunette in the crowd, his heart rate felt as if it inclined a bit. A sudden wash of nostalgia and familiarity filled his gut as he stood there for a few moments.

Why did he look so familiar?

Just keep going, River.

With another sharp intake of breath, he let his body continue moving, letting one of his legs wrap around the pole as he spun around. The guy from earlier, Kennedy, was it? Was grinning as wide as could be.

Adam was on his phone when he felt Jamie elbowing his side, telling him that the man on stage was looking at him. His eyes averted from his phone screen to the stage again, only to see a man with soft silver hair with a pair of bunny ears on his head. From the side, he looked awfully familiar and when he spun around the pole, Adam caught a glimpse of who he might be. It can't be. He could not believe who he might be seeing. Maybe it was a doppelganger of his old friend? Surely the old friend he knows would not do something like this. After all, the dim lights on the stage probably made the guy look like him, right? However he still had to make sure.

"Kennedy," Adam whispered to his friend, "What's his name?" he asked, getting a smirk from the man as a response and Adam rolled his eyes in return. "No, dumbass. Just tell me his name." And as soon as those words left his mouth, he was definitely not ready for the answer. He looked towards the stage in disbelief, his eyes wide and mouth slightly agape. His dull eyes made contact with the man's striking blue ones and his breathing caught in his throat. Only then was he sure it was in fact the man he was hoping not to be. It really was River. His old friend.

He held their eye contact for only several seconds before breaking it off, standing up from the seat to excuse himself. Adam walked away towards the men's bathroom to wash his face. He slanted over the sink, feeling quite overwhelmed. What did he expect really? Sooner or later he was going to see River anyways. And River had always been in a dark hole in life. Him abandoning his friend by leaving town probably drove him deeper into the hole. Adam just didn't expect his friend to be working in a fucking strip club of all places.

The man shook his head, proceeding to splash water on his face before walking out of the bathroom.

Ever since his old friend had left all those years ago, River had been subjected to multiple stages of both illegal and legal things such as this. Of course, he would not do things going as far as selling drugs or buying them, he had too high a pride to become addictive. Adam was the backbone of River back in their way earlier adulthood, he was always there for the guy and kept him stable during that time. River was extremely grateful for everything Adam had done for him and was on the verge of saying what his feelings were towards him, but Adam ended up moving away. And just like that, his entire life spiraled back into the hellhole it had been before.

Who knew one person could make you feel so much better about everything..?

His eyes caught a glance of the brunette leaving towards the bathroom, and for some reason, he was drawn to follow. River knew if he did though, his manager was bound to kill him for that. Not literally but- yeah, yeah, like that. Of course she's not going to fricken' murder him. What are you? Crazy?

River heard the last of the music cut off, and he slowly left the stage, watching one of the female strippers pass him as he left through the beaded door. Once on the other side, he was panting a small bit, taking off those damn bunny ears and wiping his forehead. His chest hurt slightly from all the fanatics up on stage but, he was alright. "Good show." One of the nicer girls backstage told him, another one of the men strippers nodding in agreement. "You did great," A small smile curled his lips for a faint second, nodding his head in acknowledgment before hurrying down the hallway. He had to go out there and see that man again. For as long as they made eye contact, he was certain he knew him from somewhere. And...if he is who he thought he was then....

As soon as he stepped out of the bathroom, he stopped to lean against the wall for a few minutes. What was he going to say if he was to suddenly bump into his friend? 'Hey sorry for leaving without telling you haha, so how are you?' He shook his head then slapped his face once. Twice. He nodded to himself, he knew what to say. That is if he manages to say it.

Just as he turned the corner, Adam was face-to-face with the person he was not expecting to see so soon. He gulped, looking down at the man. He looked so different compared to the last time he remembered him, and that was a few years ago. Adam had grown an inch or two taller over the years so his friend seemed a little shorter than he thought. From the looks of it, he looked more mature but still had his baby-ish features which he found to be kind of cute. His hair looked silkier too. And his eyes were just the same. Striking as ever.

Adam didn't notice he was staring and at how close they were standing until someone passed them so hurriedly. He snapped out of it, finally taking a step back to clear his throat. "Um, River..." he trailed off, forgetting what he was going to say from earlier. His hand reached up to the back of his neck as his gaze wandered everywhere but River. He was not a big fan of confrontation, but in this situation he had no other choice. Him 'abandoning' River was another reason why he was nervous to talk to him. Did he even remember him though?

It took Adam a few moments to construct his words again, but he couldn't. All that he could muster up was a "What are you doing here?" as his dull-coloured eyes finally caught River's blue ones.

Almost as soon as the monotonous man left the backstage, he had run into Adam, his eyes not being able to tear away from his old friend. River felt a twist of remorse and pain just looking at the guy. His dull orbs fell down to stare at his own feet, ashamed for the most part. The young man tried to push down those raw emotions, but they kept bubbling back up, not letting him loose from the soft depression that gnawed at his ankles. For the most part, River had always been quiet, it was unnatural for him to be unresponsive at times.

"A....Adam..." He said softly, sort of keeping a distance between them. "I...should be asking you the same thing..." he replied after a while, keeping his gaze downwards. Well, this is awkward, isn't it? Two best friends who had been separated so long ago reunited in such a manner. You'd think there'd a least be a hug involved.

But this time it seemed different from any normal reunion. River was uncomfortable and he looked rather surprised Adam was here. The guy left him to his own devices so long ago! He should be mad, he should walk away and refuse to talk to him anymore, but he found himself unable to, his shock making him stand in place.

He let out a forced laugh. It was short and awkward, mostly directed to his stupidity for saying such a thing. "Yeah..." his voice trailed off. Adam was in no position to ask why River was here of all places. Although it was a valid question, it would apply more to Adam himself who had left his dear friend and came back out of thin air (not literally, of course) without bothering to give his friend any explanation as to why he did that. Honestly, it was not his choice to move away to another state. His parents were the ones who decided on him leaving the place on his sixteenth birthday, for a certain reason.

Adam's gaze slowly made its way to land on the figure of the man in front of him, letting out a regretful sigh. "Look, River," he started, running a hand through his hair, his eyes closed for a second before they opened to look at his old friend again. "I'm sorry for moving away without telling you. My parents forced me to do it, so I couldn't get out of it. You know how they are," he laughed in embarrassment. It was not the whole truth but he'd rather not tell anyone the other part of it. "But I'm here now. I'll be here for you, if you want me to."

A small smile managaed to make its way onto his face, hoping River would accept him into his life again. Adam was not lying when he said he wanted to be there for him from now on. The man looked like he had been through a lot the past few years, and Adam wanted to make it up to him in whatever way he can. With that being said, should they hug it out like friends like they used to or just shake hands like the grown man they are now... or something?

River's hand reached up to rub the other arm shyly, his gaze slowly climbing up to meet Adam's own. "I had guessed something like that happened..." he said softly, his face still rather monotonous looking. Slowly he dropped his arms to his sides and shifted onto the other foot, letting out a soft hum as he saw the sorrowful smile on Adam's face. His heart twisted again, and River felt a pang of regret and sadness wash over his petite figure. His lips formed into a thin line as he stared at Adam for a while, the loud music playing behind them. Lights scattered over the club, making the dark colourful and bright. "I...think we have a lot of catching up to do.." He suddenly said after a moment, icy ocean pupils striking into those violet orbs that seemed t0 glow more and more in the darkness.

Finally River tore his gaze away when suddenly another man appeared behind Adam, the blonde patting Adam roughly on the back. A friendly and cheeky grin fell on the man's face as he towered besides him. "Yooo Adam! I had no clue you were into guys too," Kennedy joked loudly, sending a glance River's way.
