?Kobayashi Chinatsu-dono is a lady of great renown. Known for her power and discipline in following the lead of her husband, Kobayashi Gendo-dono. She was taken as an example for all the women of Japan, and envy for the men. She was a symbol of peace, beauty, obedience, and control. She helped their province, Katsunuma, become known as a neutral peace-loving territory where negotiations between other Daiymos could be held.


Until someone destroyed her world.


In a swift campaign held by none other than Yousuke Haru, a notorious and mysterious Warlord, Lady Chinatsu-dono's family is slaughtered before her eyes, and Katsunuma is seized. She manages to escape with the help of her loyal retainer and Samurai, along with her ward. They escaped to the Hojo clan, who hid them in Edo, where their troubles only surmounted. It was clear that the Hojo had no intention of helping them regain their lost territory or allow them to seek help elsewhere, they were all but imprisoned and hidden from the political world. Torn by rage, loss, and by the lust for blood, Chinatsu-dono has forsaken the image of peace and beauty in trade for a sea of blood. She herself is not strong enough to hold a sword, but she has plenty of means with which to find those who can. She sends her Samurai and her ward to find her the strongest Ronin to join her cause, the reward for which she offers is handsome. If her ward can succeed in the plot to assassinate Warlord Yousuke they might stand a chance at regaining some of what they lost, the very least of which is honor. Along the way the group will face shadow walkers and spies known as Shinobi, hired swordsmen to take them down, and the cunning and cruel Warlord Yousuke Haru, who might not be as human as he claims. Another difficulty they face is in fact, one another. Personalities and ways of life clash, along with rivalry and pride. This is a fool's errand they run, headed towards an army just to take down one man, though each participant has their reasons.

?This roleplay will take place in the Sengoku Period, but will not precisely match up realistically- since I intend to at some point include yokai (japanese demons) in the mix. So while I would like everyone to stick to the time period's limitations technologically and mostly culturally, the rules of reality are up for bending. As in this roleplay's reality will be slightly treated as an anime's world where mythology is possible. Think Inuyasha not naruto or rurouni kenshin. Of course I would like for writers to remain as realistic as possible to a character's accurate reactions to traumatic events and be capable of emotional depth. Adhering to the roles of what the life and jobs were like for a person in sengoku era Japan. I want these characters to be three dimensional, as if they were real people that the reader could sympathize with and care about. Much of this roleplay will be about the journey, you need to decide if your character will grow because of it or remain a steady rock. Put unique spins on your character and make them stand out to me, but keep in mind the culture of the time period. Basically I'm saying don't half-ass your character.


I do not do reservations, illustrated or anime images only please and be sure to fill your app out to its entirety. I don't know how many we'll when it comes to those working for warlord Yousuke so I highly advise you save those roles for a secondary character if you're interested in them. I won't allow just anyone to take a youkai or hanyou role so please note that if your profile is not compelling enough for those roles I may not accept it.


We will open up this roleplay a few years after Lady Chinatsu has been uprooted, she has gone half mad and grown violent, wanting to join her family in death since she can not do anything to regain what was lost. But she refuses to go until she is certain she has exacted revenge. Her location is in the city Edo, and the home she was booted out of is somewhere in the mountains. This means her specific home, the province her family used to lord over is down below on flat ground. She is still very rich, and if your character is motivated by money then they will certainly have quite a bit of it- if they are motivated by a challenge, well, this Warlord is rumored to be quite the demon. Or perhaps your character is motivated to join by something else? That's up to you to figure out. We will begin the IC from the morning they leave Edo and go from there.?

?In the beginning of times, there was chaos, this is true for both the human and youkai realm. And for an age this did not change, until the wisest of the youkai decided to observe how the humans lived, and saw them at peace. The humans had found their order in the chaos. And when they looked back at their own encampments they were revolted, seeing that even the noblest of their kind were little more than savages without any stable home. They desired more, a better life than the violence they knew. The human realm already were working peacefully with one another and acted better than they. For humans to have the advantage over the youkai in this was an insult and danger to their kind.


With this in mind, the four most powerful clan leaders signed an accord bringing all of their allies in line under a more unified form of government. Rather dozens upon dozens of clans vying for a tiny piece of the available land, the four noble houses were created, to keep everyone in line and territories in equality. They built their way of life on a feudal system, one that would later be adopted by the humans. The clans provided protection and administration for those loyal to them in exchange for resources, loyalty and so on.


Political maneuvering and intermarriage is conducted between the houses to prevent further wars while still allowing for social mobility, and as one might expect. This has most especially benefited the Houses of the Sun and Moon. Generally when youkai intermarry, the child is of the father's race, which has led to a valuing of sons over daughters, much like in the human realm. However, most youkai will readily admit that daughters can make warriors and politicians just as dangerous as sons, unlike the human realm. An inter-species youkai marriage is not looked upon negatively. Still, the main family of any given house is likely to remain pure-blooded, and it is the branch families that bare the responsibility of political marriages to the other houses.?

?The ruling line of this house are white Kitsune, and their vassal races include those disposed to speed and cleverness. Bakeneko, Tanuki and the like all hail to this house. Though they have neither the largest nor strongest army, they produce tacticians and assassins like no other. And their ability to utilize guerrilla warfare is formidable. Additionally, like all nobles, the ruling family is a class of combatants all their own, much stronger than anything save other youkai royalty. They are called the house of the moon because of where they make their home. The land of night is where they thrive, a part of the youkai realm covered in the dim light of the moon and nothing else.?

?The House of the Sun is ruled by Tengu, and its vassal types include most flying youkai and those species with higher-than-usual ability to manipulate ki, like Yuki-onna. It is their magical abilities that primarily keep the other houses wary of them, though they are also wise. Due to their wisdom they are often in friendship with those of the Moon House. Again, however, the rules are slightly different for the ruling class in that they are powerful combatants. They are called the house of the sun because of where they make their home. The land of the day is where they thrive, a part of the youkai realm where the sun always shines and it is always day.?

?The House of the Earth is ruled by wolves, the Okami, and their subordinates are most often bears and oni, so it's natural that they have a reputation for being the strongest, most violent faction. As a rule, they aren't very smart or fast, but their loyalty, strength, and ability to coordinate as members of one pack makes up for it, and the sheer devastation they're capable of has ensured that their position as one of the four will never come into question. They are called the house of the earth because of where they make their home. The mountainous regions and the hidden valleys in them are where they thrive. Their fortress-like homes are impenetrable and they are famous for their metalwork.?

?The House of the Sea is the most mysterious group, and the smallest. Their leaders are the Hebi, the snake youkai, any youkai affiliated with water is under their dominion. The palatial headquarters of the head house is underwater in the great youkai sea, and this alone makes it very implausible to attack them. They do not have the same concern of the other houses to remain strong, but it is noted that their ruling family is made up of strong combatants. Like other types of youkai, they can take more humanoid forms, but they don't often choose to, preferring more than the others to keep to themselves. It is also to be noted that arguably they have the most land, it is simply covered in water, and all bodies of water in the youkai realm are connected to one another through tunnels. The water of the youkai realm does not run salty, not even the sea.?

?No one is quite sure which realm came first, human or yokai. But regardless of facts the yokai enjoy boasting that they did and that furthermore they are far superior to humans. And this kind of conclusions wasn't difficult for them to make, especially with how weak and unvaried humans are compared to them. Humans couldn't even figure out how to cross realms on their own. Even though the yokai assume these things, they can not shake their occasional curiosity of the humans. And through this curiosity a few yokai have been known to make themselves known to the humans, and in earlier times it was a much more common practice. But not all yokai had kind intentions with this curiosity, deciding to interpret the human realm as a playground to terrorize in bloodshed. When the clans formed they put an end to allowing just any to wonder into the human realm for frivolous reasons. Restricting human hunts to times of war for the humans, when the yokai could go unnoticed. The yokai like the advantage they have over humans, that they know of their realm and that the humans know only what they let them know. It is a huge convenience that they can go from realm to realm freely and the humans have no idea how. Restrictions on going back and forth between the realms have tightened and loosened with the passing years- which has kept the oblivious humans of Japan questioning whether or not yokai even exist.

To the humans yokai are legends and myths, with varying levels of actual belief, less so as time has reached the Sengoku era. Yokai are just stories to be told to the children to make them behave, they are objects to be painted and muses to write about, things of fantasy. Besides, with raging territory wars going on in this tumultuous era, who has time for stories and myth? That's all yokai have become to humans, myth.


There is such a thing as a half yokai, and the product of these unions are called hanyou by the yokai realm. These unions are extremely taboo and condemns the hanyou, and sometimes the parents, to death. This is part of the reason that the clans put restrictions on yokai crossing the realms, to prevent hanyou from being born. Back when there were no restrictions hanyou were more common and usually dangerously deficient. They were often either born with madness, deformed, or with abilities that would destroy both themselves and those around them. It is viewed that hanyou are a disgrace and abomination and belonging in neither realm. All yokai are bound by responsibility to destroy any hanyou they come across. And in this manner they were eradicated, and even humans do not know that they used to exist.?

Please note that I wasn't sure whether or not to put this in the realistic forum or fantasy forum. I would like to play this as a historical rp with a twist basically.
