For many untold seasons, four clans have ruled the forest. However, times are changing...Winter is drawing near, prey is becoming scarce and the four clans are at each other's throats once more. Felines are going missing, and an unknown darkness encroaches upon the forest. 8 cats have been given a prophecy that foretells of the danger that is to come. They alone hold the knowledge to protect the clans...but will they? Or will they contribute to the clans' destruction?

Rules:

1. No God-Modding, unless absolutely necessary to progress the plot. In those specific situations you will need to be given permission by the GM.

2. In-character posts belong in the IC section. All out-of-character posts belong in the OOC section. Any posts that are made in the IC part of the RP will need to be moved to the OOC part of the RP or they will be deleted.

3. Be active. All RPers will be expected to make at least one post per day. Two or three days is negotiable, but if anyone does not post after 3 days they will be given a warning. If they do not reply in the next 2 days following the warning they will be removed from the RP.

4. If you are unable to post in the RP for an extended period of time, please let the GM know! If you have a good reason for being inactive you may still be allowed to stay in the RP despite being absent.

5. Put in effort. Since this RP is a detailed RP, a minimum of 1 paragraph is required. One paragraph is typically 5 sentences. Grammar is also very important! If someone cannot read your post, you will need to make edits.

6. Read the posts! This goes without saying, but if you are not reading what other RPers are posting, you will not be able to keep up with the story. This can cause plot holes, or make other RPers feel like they are being ignored. Mistakes happen, but if your post is completely off-topic you will need to make changes.

7. Since this is intended to be a fairly large RP, multiple characters are allowed. HOWEVER. If you don't feel like you will be able to manage more than 1 or 2 characters, DO NOT MAKE MORE. Creating multiple characters can be fun, but if you're not able to manage them the pace of the RP will slow as a result. If you make more than 2 characters you will be monitored. If you begin to take a lot of time in between each of your posts, you may be asked to get rid of a few characters.

8. Stay in-character. Cats in the Warriors books do not speak or act the same way as humans. If you are not in-character in your posts, you will be asked to make edits.

9. Do not be afraid to talk to other members of the RP! If you notice a plot hole that someone made in the RP, feel free to talk to them and let them know. That way everyone does not have to write around them. Editing your posts does not take very long. If someone is inactive, writing around them can be unavoidable. In every other instance however, talk to people and discuss your ideas and plans!

10. Remember to follow the warrior code. The Warrior Code is a set of rules that all warriors live by.

11. Also, remember to always follow the rules of the forum!

The Warrior Code:

1. Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats from other Clans, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan, as one day you may meet them in battle.

2. Do not hunt or trespass on another Clan's territory.

3. Elders, queens, and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders. If any warrior or apprentice is sick or injured, they may eat while the elders, queens, and kits are eating.

4. Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life.

5. A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice.

6. Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.

7. A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice.

8. The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies, retires or is exiled.

9. After the death or retirement of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh.

10. A gathering of all four Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting among Clans at this time.

11. Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats.

12. No warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is from a different Clan.

13. The word of the Clan leader is the warrior code.

14. An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win their battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or if it is necessary for self-defense.

15. A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet.

16. Each Clan has the right to be proud and independent, but in times of trouble they must forget their boundaries and fight side by side to protect the four. Each Clan must aid the others so that no Clan will fall.

  • A clan located in a forest near a mountain, which stands at the border between MoonClan and RainClan. A moonstone is located atop of the mountain, as well. MoonClan cats travel there to grant medicine cats their new names or to bestow leaders with their nine lives. There are also quite a few footpaths that lead over the mountain, and MoonClan cats use them to travel up the mountain more easily. MoonClan cats also share their borders with HollowClan. Due to their close proximity to the mountain, MoonClan territory has a somewhat rocky landscape, and MoonClan cats tend to make their dens underneath rocks that are jutting from the ground. MoonClan cats consider themselves one of the closest clans to StarClan, given their close proximity to the moonstone. RainClan cats also travel to MoonClan to speak to StarClan at the moonstone, and no fighting is allowed between the clans at this time. HollowClan cats have also been known to travel there to speak to StarClan at the MoonStone in times of trouble. A large thunderpath runs from HollowClan into MoonClan territory, and a smaller thunderpath runs through the mountain into RainClan. A river also divides MoonClan from HollowClan. There are some two-leg places dotted around the area as well.

Rays of light pierced the darkness inside the leader's den, waking Nightstar from his sleep as he lay on his bed of leaves and moss. The den itself was a rather large opening underneath a slab of rock, which protruded from the ground underneath a mound of earth. There was more than enough space inside the den for one cat, even for a large tom like himself. Nightstar heaved a stretch, before standing to his paws and padding out of the den to take a look around camp. The camp was quiet, and morning mist hung in the air. The only sounds that could be heard were the chirping of the birds as they awoke from their nests. He assumed the other members of the clan were still asleep, although he knew the other warriors would be waking soon. It wouldn't be long before dawn patrols would begin, and so Nightstar made his way to the middle of camp as he waited for his deputy to arrive.

Redthorn
Clan: Moonclan
Rank: Senior warrior
Location: Camp
Feelings: Irritated

Redthorn shifted back and forth in her nest unable to find a comfortable position as thorns pricked into her sides at every movement. She grunted and staggered out of her nest and headed for the den entrance, trodding on a few tails on her way out. She flinched and it took her eyes a moment to adjust to the sudden burst of light. Redthorn walked over to the fresh-kill pile and picked a sparrow off the top and brought it to the edge of camp. While she sank her teeth into the feathery flesh of the prey she noticed Nightstar in the clearing. Redthorn was surprised she hadn't noticed the leader sooner. Hmph, my eyesight must be getting bad. However, she knew that she wouldn't be willingly retiring to the elders den anytime soon.

Nightstar noticed the fresh-kill pile was looking smaller than usual, as he padded into the clearing at the center of camp. The camp itself was located in and around the edges of the clearing, and many trees surrounded the area. Various rocks of differing sizes were scattered across the camp in various places, all of them partially buried within the earth. Most of the clan member's dens were located underneath the larger boulders, which served to protect the members of the clan very well from the outside elements. The entrance to the clearing was blocked by thorn bushes, which helped to prevent intruders. As Nightstar finished examining the fresh-kill pile, he spotted Redthorn as the elder warrior stumbled her way out of the warrior's den, before making her way over to the fresh-kill pile on the opposite side of where Nightstar was standing. She didn't appear to have spotted him, as she plucked a sparrow from the top of the pile. Nightstar made his way over to her casually, speaking to her with his usual placid tone despite what he had just witnessed. "Good morning, Redthorn." He greeted her, his voice almost a low purr. Redthorn was many moons older than most of the cats in the clan, and twice his own age. Her fur was a deep red, a rarity among felines. Her whiskers were gray, although despite her age the she-cat was in surprisingly good health. Her body was lean and muscled, similar to a warrior's half her age. Nightstar flicked his tail toward the sparrow at her paws. "I'll have to ask you to return that to the fresh-kill pile. You know better than anyone that the warrior code states that elders and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors." He spoke, a gentle warning concealed in his tone. Redthorn had served as a warrior for longer than any cat in the clan was required, and Nightstar knew the she-cat was very knowledged and as a result was well aware of the rules of being a warrior. While it was true she was already the age of some of the elders in the clan, she was still a warrior and would be expected to follow the rules until she retired. Despite the old warrior's stubborn and blatant attitude, Nightstar still had the utmost respect for the she-cat. The many years she had served MoonClan had made her very skilled in many ways.

He spoke little as he organized his little storage. The den was rather cozy, fairly small, but filled with many crevices to store his herbs. There was even extra storage up high if the waters were to flow in, though he prayed he never had to use them. He turned back to two nest with one being filled by his new apprentice. It was nice hearing the breathing of another cat that wasn't struggling due to some build up in their lungs. His own nest was decorated in little shells that his younger brother loved to bring him to show how well his training was going. He brought back a new pebble or shell for every accomplishment he make.

Grassgaze purred before turning back to his task at hand. To most cats, the herb stock looked rather full and very well maintained, but that was only the untrained eyes of non-medicine cats. There had been some expired herbs that needed to be cleared out and, soon, he would need to go searching for new, fresh ones. He loved to hunt for herbs, but he was weary with the thought that he might not be able to go this time as he felt that soon his den would be filled with noise and not the good kind.

Mistpaw blinked her eyes as she awoke, in an attempt to clear them of sleep. She rolled over in her nest, which was a bed made of moss, grass and leaves. All of which she had gathered herself along with the help of her mentor. In fact, her bed felt a bit damp this morning, which made her feel slightly uncomfortable. Her eyes began to focus on the surroundings inside the den, which itself was a relatively small space inside of a hole in some rock. Her eyes found their way to her mentor Grassgaze, and she pushed herself to her paws as she got up from her nest before proceeding to leap toward him. "Hey Grassgaze." She greeted him, a small purr escaping her throat. She batted at his tail with one of her paws playfully, before noticing that he appeared to be tending to their stock of herbs. Mistpaw noticed that a few of the herbs seemed to have dried up, and she realized that Grassgaze would probably send her to fetch more for their supply later on. She was not looking forward to searching for more herbs for the stock, since the task was so terribly boring.

Intent and focused, Grassgaze merely flicked his ears back at Mistpaw's greeting as he continued to pile all the useless herbs in a neat stack. His tail flickered across the floor as Mistpaw grabbed it playfully and he swept it more playfully in response while continuing to work. He turned back when she didn't precede to play around more noticing she had stood up. Mistpaw seemed to be almost fully awake now and prepared for the day.

"Herb day," he merely said as pointed to his stack. He would need to send someone out with her, perhaps, if he could not manage to get away.

Mistpaw couldn't prevent the tip of her tail from twitching back and forth in annoyance as she listened to her mentor confirm what she had already been dreading. Today was herb gathering day. She turned her head away from him in disappointment as he pointed with one of his paws to their meager stack of herbs. She knew the task was important, since the clan needed a proper supply of medicine. However, there were so many other ways she'd prefer to spend her time. Like going to see her friend Ravenpaw for example, who happened to be Grassgaze's younger sibling. Perhaps he would allow her to skip out on her job for the day, if she explained that she had plans with Ravenpaw? "You see, Grassgaze...I promised Ravenpaw that the two of us would do something together today..." She spoke, not willing to make her mentor angry. Although, she had to admit to herself that she was mostly just trying to weasel her way out of the situation. Spending time with Ravenpaw did seem like a far less boring prospect than herb gathering, though.

Grassgaze payed little to no mind at the obvious distaste of his apprentice. He had learned early on that, though she was interested in the medicine cat path, she still would rather play and act as a regular apprentice. He had accepted this idea since he had actually trained as a regular apprentice and felt it was an experience he was lucky to of went through. The tom stopped shuffling through herbs and turned to his fluffy white apprentice. Sometimes he wondered if she was still a kit and too young since that fluffy appearance gave her such a kit like look.

"Mistpaw," he started, his voice stern and serious. "Herbs are the most important aspect to being a medicine cat," His one good eye watch her features for any hint of emotion she may let free. "I know you have just started your training, but it is very important that you learn the value in hunting for herbs for one day a life may depend on what stock you have available," he finished before turning back to his task at hand. He really hoped that one day she could enjoy searching for new herbs like he did, but he worried that he would not be able to show her such things.

"If anything, you may take Ravenpaw with you," he added as an attempt to sweeten the idea.

Redthorn
Clan: Moonclan

Feelings: Irritated

Redthorn shifted her yellow gaze up to Nightstar as he approached. Her gaze narrowed as he spoke and it made her already spiky pelt prickle up in annoyance. The senior warrior knew very well of the warrior code, after all she had been around for many moons. However, her stomach felt completely hollow. She noticed the small fresh-kill pile a few sunrises ago and refused to eat since then but she was worried that she may not be able to remain on her paws for todays hunting. Pardon me for letting the clan eat long before I have! Luckily the auburn she-cat held her tongue. How could have Nightstar known of her situation, he was a busy tom being leader and all. Redthorn could easily explain herself but she forced herself to her paws, silently cursing that she wobbled slightly. "Very well, I'll hunt now." Normally she would have not budged a bit even at the leaders demand but she wouldn't use pity as an out and would continue to prove her worth as a warrior. Redthorn picked up the sparrow by its wing and tossed it back on the pile. She shook away the eagerness to eat and headed for the camp entrance.

Clan: Hollowclan

Location: Camp
Feeling: Groggy

Birdstar awoke slowly. Her den, located within a hollow log that had fallen long before she was born, was more or less undisturbed. The leader contemplated rolling over and going back to sleep. She could hear her deputy's voice calling through the camp to rouse the warriors and set up patrols. Birdstar had faith in her deputy to operate without her guidance. Surely a few more minutes wouldn't hurt...?

Suddenly, sunlight pieced through the linen curtain covering the mouth of the den. The deputy had poked in to wake the leader, much to the leader's annoyance. Not at the deputy, no. At herself for having asked the deputy to do that every morning. Regardless, the light got the she-cat up and out of her nest, pulling chunks of moss and soft lichen from her fur before stepping out into camp. She looked around - the fresh-kill pile was getting low, she noted. Hopefully today's patrols could return it to its former glory.

Mistpaw

Rank: Medicine cat's apprentice
Clan: RainClan
Location: Medicine cat's den

Mistpaw clawed at the dirt beneath her paws as she listened to Grassgaze speak. She'd known he was going to give her a lecture. Mistpaw understood the importance of herb gathering, and she truly did want to become a medicine cat. She was easily distracted from her duty by fun and games, and she'd been told before by her mentor as well as her mother that she should stop acting like a kitten. It was true she was only 6 moons old, and had only just recently become a medicine cat apprentice. Putting aside kitten-like behaviors was difficult, although she knew she would have to start acting like an adult.

She would often have mock fights with her friend Ravenpaw, who was a warrior's apprentice. The two of them would also chase prey together, which Mistpaw found enjoyable even though she was never taught the skills necessary to catch anything. Even though she enjoyed the time spent with her friend and they games they played together, Mistpaw was still very different from her friend. She hated to see other cats injured, and even though she enjoyed the pretend battles they engaged in together Mistpaw wasn't sure if she would ever be able to actually wound another cat. She didn't have the proper training of course, but even despite that Mistpaw was actually a very gentle hearted feline.

Ravenpaw had asked her before why she didn't become a warrior, and Mistpaw had not known what to say at the time. After all, the idea of learning to fight like a warrior had been an interesting thought, and she knew her mentor had been a warrior before. So perhaps he could teach her? Mistpaw knew that probably wasn't possible without becoming a warrior however, and she accepted that. Besides, her mentor had told her before that she had other strengths besides being able to fight well or hunt. There had to be a reason why Grassgaze had chosen the young cat to be his apprentice. Perhaps he saw a bit of himself in the young feline? Or perhaps he saw a young apprentice in need of guidance in a way that only someone like himself could achieve.

Mistpaw knew her chosen path was to become a medicine cat. Despite the fact that she hated herb gathering, she had a surprising amount of knowledge about the properties of certain medicines. Her mentor had given her praise for this in the past, and Mistpaw hoped he would continue to share his knowledge with her in the future. Her solemn eyes brightened as Grassgaze mentioned taking Ravenpaw along with her to gather herbs. Mistpaw actually felt excited by this idea. This way, she could show Ravenpaw what it was like being a medicine cat's apprentice, since her friend always loved to tell her what it was like being a warrior's apprentice. Maybe herb gathering wouldn't feel so boring if Ravenpaw was along? Mistpaw enjoyed the idea of being able to demonstrate everything she knew. "Ok!" She purred happily.

Nightstar noticed Redthorn's pelt bristle as she threw the sparrow back into the fresh-kill pile. Something seemed...off about her today, although he wasn't quite able to place his paw on it. She mentioned going out for a hunt, and he figured she would be better off joining this morning's hunting party. He started after her toward the entrance to camp, but was halted as he spotted his deputy approaching him in the clearing. He turned around to greet him and give him orders to begin the morning's dawn patrol and hunting party. After all, it was the deputy's job to handle the organization of those matters, and Ashclaw was very proficient at his job. Perhaps he would be able to figure out the situation with Redthorn.

Ashclaw

Rank: Deputy
Clan: MoonClan
Location: Camp
Ashclaw was woken from his slumber by a sharp pain in his tail. He rolled over, feeling agitated. His eyes focused in quickly as light shone through the entrance to the warrior's den. He noticed Redthorn as she left the den, her striking red pelt unmistakable. She had been the one to step on his tail, he assumed. The old she-cat had always tried her hardest to be a thorn in Ashclaw's side, and despite Ashclaw's authority the only member of the clan she ever listened to was their leader. This made Ashclaw's job very difficult, which tended to annoy him since he had a very duty-bound personality and liked getting the job done. Any cat that could jeopardize the success of the mission tended to get underneath Ashclaw's fur quite easily from time to time.

Ashclaw pushed aside his irritation as he realized it was time to begin the border patrols. He would also have to organize a hunting party. He stretched his limbs, his claws digging themselves into his nest. He then proceeded to pull himself to his paws and find his way out of the warrior's den through the crowd of cats that were still asleep. He made his way to the clearing, and immediately spotted his leader, Nightstar. "Good morning, Nightstar." Ashclaw greeted his leader with a meow, his tone respectful. He noticed Redthorn leaving toward the entrance to camp, and he wondered where she was going. The clan needed every cat present at camp to begin organizing squads.

He listened as Nightstar spoke, flicking his ears as his leader finished speaking. "I'm to organize a hunting party and include Redthorn?" He spoke, in confirmation. Ashclaw wanted to groan. However, he was the deputy of his clan and he would see the task completed. He only hoped that the stubborn old she-cat would cooperate. "Very well." He replied, before meowing loudly at Redthorn across the clearing. "Redthorn! Come here." He waited for her to approach. "I will need you for today's hunting party. You need to stay inside the camp until the other warriors have woken up. That way we will not be short on warriors to accompany us."

She had almost made her escape from camp before hearing Ashclaw call after her. Making an audible grunt she swung her head around and looked at the deputy with a twitching tail. "Wasn't I just told to do my warrior duties? Now I have to wait for these dormouse youngsters to wake up..." Redthorn rambled on a bit in mumbles then cleared her thoughts and spoke back in a loud mew, "I'm going on a hunt." She followed it with a sarcastic remark but with a lowered voice, "I'll be back as soon as I can to bow my head, oh great Ashstar." As usual she proceeded to pad towards the entrance and ignored the toms instructions. Redthorn flinched as she felt her stomach tighten in hunger. I'm fine! I've gone longer without food before. Her tail lashed and she stood taller though she felt as sick as an elder that had eaten a rotten mouse.

Deerpaw made sure to keep her pawsteps quiet as she snuck out the apprentice's den in the early morning hours, which was easy enough to do with the soft dirt that lined the relatively spartan apprentice's den (well, nearly spartan, on account of Deerpaw's proudly kept shiny rock collection). The den was a made of a nearby fallen, dead tree just behind the ancient meeting tree Hollowclan used for their important matters/community space. The tree was just a skinny, young tree when it was felled, so a hole was dug just beside the tree so a cat may use the hole to shimmy themselves down and up into the close, cozy interior of the den.

Using her lanky, long body, Deerpaw easily slithered out of the den and chuckled mischievously as she slinked off into the woods. Once the Ancient tree was obscured by the trees that covered Hollowclan territory, Deerpaw smirked and broke out into a run, her legs allowing her to bound over the leaf littered forest floor much like her namesake. The apprentice craved her early morning runs, away from the order and responsibility that commanded her life inside the camp.

Blood pumping, the she-cat finally stopped for a breather, her chest heaving as she caught her breath and she felt a great warmness fill her as she admired the beautiful forest around her as the birds sang their morning songs. She knew that this is where she belonged.

It seemed to take a second for Mistpaw to respond and he worried that she would give him a hard time still, but his worries soon vanished when she seemed to happily agree to the task. He couldn't help, but purr as well. He was pleased that she had not given up much of a fight and he was sure that, with time, she would learn to love gathering herbs as he.

"Well, if you finish early you can go enjoy the rest of the afternoon. Ravenpaw should be up already," he meowed before looking over his herb supplies. "We need seem more catnip, like always, borage leaves, Chamomile, and coltsfoot," He finished his list and turned to make sure she got it all. "At least bring back a nice supply of two of the four and tell any warriors out there to look out for some herbs," He informed his apprentice.

Ravenpaw
"Sometimes words hit harder than actions"

20b43dd693c00ee490d15f498ad70279.jpg

The slate grey walls looked black since the sun had not fully risen. She could see that there was a tad of light trying to peek through the mossy covered entrance of the apprentice den. Ravenpaw stayed perfectly still as her blue eyes just watched the slight swaying of the mossy vines. Her feathered lined nest felt warm and it almost felt a waste to leave its comfort, so Ravenpaw just stayed watching.

The slight snoring of Wavepaw kept her firm in reality as she turned to check up on him. He tended to sleep in odd positions that caused his airways to block and usually lead to him snoring. At least he was snoring too loud this time, so she just let him remain uncomfortably twisted in his nest.

Turning her gaze back to the entrance, Ravenpaw's mind wandered with plans of her future. She often dreamed of being leader with maybe her brother even as deputy and Mistpaw as her medicine cat. She couldn't help purr with the idea of ruling over her clan. Grassgaze often told her to curb her ambition a little, because too much can be dangerous, but she could not see how. Her desires are what keep her moving forward.

Silently, Ravenpaw daydreamed as she waited for a reason to leave her nest.

Calmbreeze
location: moonclan camp mentions: n/a

The camp was still rather quiet when Calmbreeze awoke. She remained curled in her moss with her eyes open and her tail curled to her nose. Through the shaded entrance of her den, the medicine cat could hear conversations too low to make out. Her ears swiveled in slight curiosity, but it was much too early for her to get involved in clan affairs. The sounds of camp were tuned out as she went over her plans for the day from her nest. For starters, she would see to it that her previous mentor, Oakfur, had been attended to. Then, seeing as the colder seasons were approaching, she would take stock of her herbs and forage as needed. Perhaps she could find an eager apprentice to tag along. If not, Calmbreeze had no issues with searching the territory alone. She enjoyed the time to think deeply--not to mention the independence it gave her.

She rose quickly from her nest and worked into a deep stretch, squeaking contently as she flexed her claws into the soft ground beneath her. As Calmbreese emerged from the rustling entrance, she saw both Nightstar and his deputy. Not in the mood for conversing and without pausing, she scuttled past and nodded respectfully at both toms. Upon reaching the fresh-kill pile, Calmbreeze's tail drooped in disappointment; it was very low. Accompanying her drop in mood was the confirmation that no-leaf was approaching and her herbs would most definitely need to be stocked. Even if her stock wasn't dwindling, it was always better to be overly prepared during the times of increased sickness. Calmbreeze was always looking ahead to the future as she never wanted to be caught off guard.

Picking through the pile, Calmbreeze settled on a vole that still looked rather plump despite the colder weather. She hoped Oakfur would be pleased--even if she was the medicine cat now, the young she-cat still enjoyed praise from her old mentor. Calmbreeze also hoped to find the old she-cat in a good mood. As her age increased, so had her crankiness. Oakfur had always had a sharp tongue, but Calmbreeze had admired her for it. She thought it had been beneficial in making her the calm and independent cat that she now was.
Placing the vole gingerly in her jaws, Calmbreeze tried to ignore its appealing scent. She had eaten the previous morning, but had become more hesitant in her meals since prey had started to dwindle. She knew how important it was as medicine cat for her to keep her own health up, but she was also young. Going without meals for larger spans of time wouldn't hurt, especially if it meant weaker cats ate first. Besides, she could always wait for a later hunting patrol to return.

Ashclaw was surprised at Redthorn's blatant disrespect. The old she-cat had pushed the limit with her remark. It was one thing to insult a superior ranking warrior, but throwing the position of clan leader in his face had managed to twist his tail in a way that few cats could. Afterall, he was deputy of MoonClan, and he knew that one day he could indeed be granted his nine lives. Ashclaw would do anything for his clan, and he respected Nightstar and his position as leader of the clan. It would be an honor to him if he were to ever be chosen as leader of MoonClan, and to have that sentiment so brazenly trounced upon caused Ashclaw to lose his composure. Without thinking, he bared his fangs at the elder warrior. The fur on his spine stood on end, and his ears flattened as a hiss escaped his maw. Before he had time to react further however, his leader's voice snapped him out of his fit of anger.

"Enough!"
He heard Nightstar say, and Ashclaw's attention immediately focused on his leader as the large tom stood between the two of them. His eyes were sharp and serious, and his body rigid. He had only seen that look upon Nightstar's face a few times in his life, and he knew that it meant that he was not to be trifled with. Ashclaw bowed his head, regaining his self control. "Forgive me." He said stiffly, although his voice still held respect. He noticed Calmbreeze as the she-cat left the medicine cat's den, dipping her head in respect to himself and Nightstar before hurrying of toward the fresh-kill pile. Ashclaw assumed the medicine cat did not want to get involved in their squabble, and he couldn't blame her. He turned away from Redthorn and began padding toward the warrior's den. He figured the other warriors should be awake by now, and Ashclaw intended to get the dawn squads formed as soon as possible. He decided that it didn't matter if Redthorn wanted to join them or not. Right now the clan's need was more important. If one cat was going to refuse to gather prey for the entirety of the clan's benefit, then he could not be bothered to try to reason with them.

The MoonClan leader noticed Calmbreeze as the medicine cat passed by in a hurry. He assumed she had overheard their spat, and she did not wish to be bothered. Ashclaw turned and began trodding away, and Nightstar allowed himself to relax a bit. He turned his attention to Redthorn, his body still rigid with authority but his gaze soft. He studied the she-cat carefully before speaking. "Redthorn." He addressed her, his voice calm. "Tell me what is bothering you today." He added. Nightstar was a very attentive feline. The seasons he had spent as leader of the clan had given him a lot of insight. Due to this, he tended not to miss very many things. However, he knew he had obviously missed something very important regarding the elder she-cat's behavior this morning. He had known Redthorn for many moons, and therefor he knew she could be quite contrary on occasion. However, it was very apparent to him that something was wrong with her today.

He continued to study her while he waited for her to speak. It was then that he noticed the she-cat's posture. She appeared as if she would topple off her paws. Nightstar assumed she had gotten sufficient rest, so he wondered what else could possibly be ailing her. It was then that Nightstar realized that he had not seen Redthorn eat in the last few days. As the leader of the clan, Nightstar had many tasks he was responsible for. Among those, he did his best to ensure that all cats take their turn when eating from the fresh-kill pile. However, he had not seen Redthorn eating with the other warriors recently. Nightstar had been so preoccupied with the dwindling supply of prey recently, among other things, that he hadn't shown much attention.

Feeling ashamed at this, Nightstar padded toward the fresh-kill pile and grabbed the sparrow that she had taken earlier. If the leader chose to take a piece of prey from the pile, and for good reason, he knew no one would argue. "Here." He meowed gently, dropping the prey at Redthorn's paws. "I apologize for not realizing earlier. And you must forgive my deputy. He is a loyal warrior, and even if the two of you do not get along you both should respect each other." He told her, his tone soft as usual. "Every member of this clan is what gives MoonClan it's strength. If we do not consider the well-being of every member of the clan, and work together..." He paused. Nightstar had been troubled lately. Something seemed amiss in the forest. Although, he could not be certain if he was only imagining it. He would not burden Redthorn with his woes, however. "If we do not cooperate with each other the clan's future will be grim." He stated, his tone concealing all evidence of his worries.

Nightstar then proceeded to walk away, leaving the elder warrior to finish her food and ponder on what he had said. He made his way over to where Ashclaw was standing next to the warrior's den, waiting for the other warriors to wake from their sleep. He appeared disgruntled, his gaze giving away his displeasure. "Ashclaw." Nightstar spoke to him, and the deputy's head immediately swiveled in his direction as he attempted to look composed. "Listen, Ashclaw..." Nightstar began. "I chose you as my deputy because your loyalty to this clan is unwavering. I want you to remember what I am about to say. There are times when what is good for one cat is also what is good for the entirety of the clan." He told him. Ashclaw peered at him silently, his eyes reflective. "What happened between you and Redthorn today...I know the two of you do not stand whisker-to-whisker on many things, but you are both members of the same clan. Redthorn has not eaten in many days. That I believe, was the cause for her outburst. In the future, I want you to consider more carefully what may be troubling other members of the clan. You will make a fine leader one day, and I know you are a noble warrior..." He finished. Ashclaw bowed his head, and he appeared to have accepted everything his leader had said.

Nightstar's mind wandered back to his concerns over the shortage of prey once more, and he thought to mention it to his deputy before deciding to push the conversation away for another time. He trodded away, making his way back to the clearing. He spotted Dapplepaw, Ashclaw's apprentice, leave the apprentice's den and head toward him. She greeted him, and he told her good morning before she walked away toward where Ashclaw was standing.

Sharptalon slowly stretched, his tail curling slightly. He saw the telltale speckles of sunlight on the floor of the warrior's den, which was sign enough that it was time for him to wake up. He walked out of the den, blinking in the sudden brightness. His tail twitched with amusement when he saw his leader choosing to return to her nest for more sleep, not that he particularly blamed her. "Patrols!" He yowled, sitting down as the warriors gathered around him. He preferred having all of the cats near him so he didn't have to shout names and orders.

When everyone had gathered, he looked around, gazing at all of the assembled cats. "Mapletail, take one or two others and patrol the MoonClan border. Forestpelt, take the AirClan border." He ordered, absently digging his claws into the ground, leaving deep furrows. "Everyone else, the fresh-kill pile is low, I'll lead a patrol to restock. Nobody leave yet." He ordered, running up to Birdstar's den and poking his head in. "The patrols are leaving. Any of them that you'd care to join?" He asked.

With a slight nod to Sharptalon, Birdstar got up and stretched, arching her back. "I do believe I'll join you hunting patrol this morning." With a simple flick of her tail, she gestured towards a few more cats, indicating that they should join them. "I think four of us should be enough..."

Sharptalon nodded at her reply, walking briskly back down to the assembled cats. "Go on your patrols, don't waste time. If you catch any enemy scents on our side of the border, get as much information as you can, and try to avoid a fight." He told them, tail twitching at the thought. He'd much rather be on the patrol that encountered trouble, although he'd also prefer there be no trouble at all.

"Right. Catnip, camomile, colts foot and..." Mistpaw mumbled, in response to her mentor's request. He had given her a list of medicinal herbs that he required, and the young apprentice did her best to remember each ingredient. "...And borage leaves." Mistpaw finished her train of thought. She gazed at her mentor for a brief moment as he turned back to make sure she hadn't forgotten anything. "I can remember that." She assured him, as she stepped past him and exited the medicine cat's den. Grassgaze had thankfully told her that she only needed to gather a decent supply of at least two of the herbs on his list, although Mistpaw assumed she could ask Ravenpaw for help locating the other two items. She headed in the direction of the apprentice's den, making sure to look around camp as she headed there just in case Ravenpaw had left her den already. Mistpaw knew her friend well, and if she had to guess she'd say that the young apprentice was still cozied up in her nest until one of her superiors came to bother her. Not today Mistpaw decided, because the two of them had plans. There were a few cypress trees located in the area among the other more common trees, their roots twisting as they protruded from the ground. In fact, the leader's den was located underneath one of the cypress trees atop a mound of earth, which served to protect against flooding. Mistpaw padded through the camp across the damp grass, which was soft and still a bit soggy from the last rain. She leaped over a hole of mud, not wishing to get her white fur dirty. She then came upon the apprentice's den, which was a hole located inside of a relatively large moss-covered rock. Some plants grew upon the rock as well, and their vines draped down to partially conceal the entrance. Mistpaw stuck her fluffy white body through the vines and looked around the den. She made out Ravenpaw's body as she lay curled up in a furry black ball in her nest. Mistpaw crawled deeper into the den, and prodded her friend with her paw. "Hey, Ravenpaw! Get up, mousebrain! Grassgaze says I have to go herb gathering, and you can come with me!" She meowed teasingly, trying to get Ravenpaw to budge.

The sound of yowling woke Mapletail from her nest, and she realized that Sharptalon was rousing the clan to begin putting together the dawn squads. She pulled herself from her nest and exited the warrior's den, just in time for Sharptalon to give her orders to patrol the MoonClan border. She yawned, before quickly gaining her senses. It was still bright and early, but at least she would have something to do this morning. She agreed to accompany some warriors to the MoonClan border, before trotting off to the apprentice's den. She would be bringing her apprentice, Deerpaw, along with her on the patrol. She searched the den but could not spot the young feline. Now where could she have run off to? Mapletail wondered. Deerpaw had a tendency to wander away from the camp from time-to-time. Being impatient as she was, Mapletail hoped she would return soon. She didn't want to have to go looking for the young she-cat. If she didn't return she'd have no choice, however.

After stretching in the sun, Deerpaw decided a good hunt before heading back to camp was in order. To, you know, apologize to the warriors back at camp for running off. Breathing in deeply and tasting the air, she picked up faint hints of a nearby squirrel. Maybe it was faint because it was up in its nest?

Looking around, she found her ticket up: a low hanging branch. Crouching low, she used her long, powerful back legs to fling herself into the air. Unsheathing her claws, she dug into the bark and scrambled up."Now...a path up," she muttered quietly, using her combination of jumping and climbing to ascend.

Once near the top, the smell got stronger. She crouched low on the branch below the nest, a large pile of twigs and leaf litter, where the squirrel rummaged, more than likely refurbishing its home.

"Now's my shot," she thought, and she sprung, flinging herself into the nest and the squirrel screeched as she slammed it down onto the branch and quickly dispatched of it. Balancing herself, her claws dug firmly into the branch, she took a moment to collect herself. She thanked StarClan and apologized for taking the life of the squirrel, for whom she admired as she did for all the animals in the forest.

Grasping it firmly in her jaws with dawn continuing to rise and the warriors surely getting ready for patrol soon, she carefully, albeit struggled to, carry the freshkill down the tree and she trotted back toward camp

Pacing around in the center of camp, the tip of her tail twitched back and forth in anticipation as Mapletail waited for her apprentice to show up. Just as she was about to leave camp in search of the young feline, she spotted the apprentice as she entered camp with what appeared to be a fresh kill in her maw. "Deerpaw, come here." She spoke to the young she-cat, ushering her over to where she was standing. Mapletail was impressed that Deerpaw had caught some prey despite not having been sent on a hunting squad. However, Mapletail wished the apprentice had told her mentor before she had went on any excursions outside of the camp. "Sharptalon has ordered everyone to begin forming groups for the dawn patrols and hunting squads. I need you to accompany me to patrol the MoonClan border." Mapletail told her. "That's a nice, fatty squirrel you've caught there. I'm proud of you. However, you shouldn't leave the camp without letting me or someone else know. You know that some cats have been going missing recently." Mapletail scolded her. "Go place your kill into the fresh-kill pile. Then we will make the trip to the edge of the river." She ordered, this time speaking a bit more lightly to the young feline. As she waited for her apprentice to return, Mapletail looked around camp for any other warriors or their apprentices that may want to join them to the MoonClan border.

A bit worn out from carrying the squirrel for so long, she didnt even fret as Mapletail approached her. Deerpaw placed the squirrel down and stretched, her muscles bunched from carrying the squirrel. She smirked, noticing Mapletail's annoyance and pretended not to notice as she approached."Hey there, my lovely replacement mother," Deerpaw joked.

Deerpaw rolled her eyes at receiving her orders and Mapletail's scolding."Geez mom, I'm not gonna go missing, dont you fluff your tail over it," she winked, grabbing her squirrel and bounding over to the fresh kill pile before Mapletail could get at her again.

She trotted back over, nudging her mentor excitedly."Moonclan, huh? You can show off your little prodigy here to the competition," she teased.
