Oboro Mizuki

Garden Grove University

Hara Hotaru
Wakuda Tadasuke
Nakano Yuki

The Garden Grove school festival was off to a grand start this year as students flocked back to campus fresh from their vacation, upperclassmen excited to reunite with friends they hadnā€™t seen since last semester and new students either nervous to start university or excited to attend their first college festival.

Oboro Mizuki had spent the entire day being swarmed by childhood friends wanting to make plans to hangout, they were only able to break away and make it to the club room by sheer luck. Activities in the new room shared by the Host Club and Zuka Club were already well underway as club members ran past in various costumes, rushing to serve their guests.

ā€œMizu, youā€™re lateā€ called a gruff voice they recognized all too well. Mizuki couldnā€™t help but snort at Yukiā€™s so-called ā€˜tough guyā€™ voice. They has known Yuki since they were kids and there was no way Mizuki would ever be able to take his bad-boy persona seriously. Yuki sauntered over to them, slipping a hand casually out of his pocket and taking them by the ear. Oboro fussed and tried to escape as Yuki led them back to the changing room to get ready.

After a few minutes Mizuki emerged from the room in the costume they had chosen for themself. Over a simple maidā€™s dress they wore and unbuttoned suit jacket, a lazily tied tie dangling down the front of their torso. Over their arm was draped a hand towel, held out in front of their stomach. They looked to be some cross between a butler and a maid, and Yuki eyed the mismatched outfit with a single raised brow.

Mizuki marched past their friend with a nonchalant shrug, immediately beginning to bounce around from client to client once they were out the door. They were nagging a client they knew, trying to bully him into ordering their favorite dish so they could steal some for themself, when a resounding clang cut through the busy noise of the cafƩ.

Heads snapped in the direction of the ruckus so quickly Mizuki swore they could hear necks cracking. The remains of a Ginori teapot lay sprawled in a puddle of tea, surrounded by the shattered remnants of matching cups at the feet of Hara Hotaru and the vice president of the Host Club.

Hara's eyes drifted sheepishly to the others for help. The front of the vice presidentā€™s costume was a mess, drenched with tea down to the shoes. Mizuki bounded over to the scene of the crime with a laugh, slinging an arm around Hotaruā€™s shoulders. It was quite the task given their height difference, but they made it work.

ā€œAw, youā€™re so clumsy Taru. But I love your costume, you look kick-ass!ā€ they gushed, playfully tussling Haraā€™s hair before bouncing over to the VP. ā€œSorry about that vice prez, lemme clean that up for you!ā€ Mizuki said as they began to dab at Tadasukeā€™s tea-soaked clothes with the hem of their own dress, totally disregarding the hand towel they carried.

While they attempted to dab the vice president's outfit dry with their own, Mizuki waved a hand to the other club members urging them to carry on. ā€œWhyā€™s everyone looking over here when they should be staring at the yummy food on their plates? Watch out or I might come around and nab some for myself!ā€ as if on cue Mizukiā€™s stomach growled, causing a nearby group of guests to laugh.

ā€œHey, I see you snickering over there Yuji!ā€

Toshiro was always one to be working late and making sure everything was just right for the festival at Garden Grove. He was mostly put in charge of getting the food to serve and even made some treats for the club members afterward. After all, Toshiro had the best connections when it came to anything food-related. So he was at the club room bright and early, making sure everything was just right before getting into his own costume a princely outfit in black, blue, and gold. While it did nation the Zuka's cloud own outfit, it was not planned, a happy accident some might say, but for them, just an accident. Soon enough, other club members came in and before the president even realized it, the festival was in full swing, and they were busy.

Separately, the Host Club and Zuka Club had many fans and loyal customers, and now that they are together, it is safe to say that they were very busy and crowded. Toshi was holding a metal tray with treats in it in one hand, a cloth delicately dropped over his other arm when his head swiveled to see the crash, into the most unfortunate person here. He could never tell why his VP himself always had drama around them, but it never stopped Toshiro from extending extra kindness to the others. To help with the distraction, seeing Mizuki be the first to dash in to help, Toshiro would set his tray down on a free empty side table before clapping his hands together, slowly stepping away from the mess with a dashing smile.

"To all of our lovely guests! As you know, we have had a raffle going on for both of the clubs and there is still time to join as we will have 3 lucky winners! It is now time to draw the first lovely winners of our raffles if I could have your attention over on the stage!"

He shouted over the noise, everyone quieting down and only whispered through the crowd as there was now a buzz of excitement, following Toshiro who walked up to the stage, as of course there was a stage in their room, why wouldn't there be? Eyes were now off of Mizuki, Tadasuke, and Hotaru as he walked up to 2 crystal bowls that had shiny gold raffle tickets they had been selling along with baked goods their customers could take with them or eat here with a host or Zuka club member. He waited for a moment, looking around the room and making sure the members were all mostly here before he went to one bowl labeled Host Club, removed his gloves, and delicately put his hand in, his free hand covering his eyes dramatically as his hand stirred up the raffle tickets and pulled out a number.

"Our first lucky number of today is..."
he paused, looking at the shiny foil reading it over once before looking up.
"number 2813! The lovely member who has ticket 2813 please come forward!"
A female n the crowd squealed in joy as she made her way up, hugging Toshiro who looked a bitch shocked at first then went to the bowl labeled Zuka club, and followed the same process before.

"And the 2nd number of the first drawing is...1932! If you have the ticket 1932 please join us up here without other lovely customers and we shall give you both your prizes! Everyone, please give a hand to our first two winners!"
He said, stepping back as another female presenting person squealed and made her way up, Toshiro stepped back and hand motioned to give applause to the two first winners.

"And please remember, we will have 2 more drawings so you can still try your luck in our raffle. Best of luck to all of you lovelies out there as we will have our Zuka club president draw for the next one and for our 3rd and final drawing, we will be doing it, together,"
he said, giving a wink as some girls swooning over him screamed out and clearly overreacting to such simple wink and smile but, that was normal really.

He would motion for the two females to follow him off the stage and bring them to the large and extravagant prize table, making small talk with them, hoping by now, the mess was cleaned up.

    Stressed

.

"Showing up late to the event is not an option, and if you won't be attending at all then I would suggest you withdraw from the club..." is what she had told everyone in the Zuka club. Not only had she stayed up late to make sure the event was properly funded through sponsors, she also managed to bring in tech for the event; Stages, lighting, monitors blasting the clubs photoshoots, mics and sound boards, and most of all exclusive giveaways only she could pull off. This year would be a crucial time for their club as they needed to prove that they were equal, if not better than the Host club. Unlike the previous years, she planned to rule the club with an iron fist to make sure they come out on top.

Being late was not an option, and yet she was nowhere to be seen once the event started. Instead, the Daigo family called a last minute meeting to discuss their plans for Manami that could have simpy been an email. It seemed that the meeting was almost out of spite for the decisions Manami made against their wishes, and how she had cornered them into agreeing to let her go to Ouran.

Once the meeting ended instead of using her chaufer Manami opted for a helicopter ride, and would change into her costume outfit on the way. Along for the ride was her favorite makeup & hair stylist as well as her fashion designer. Both of them assisted with dressing her for the occasion since she provided them only with what she wanted her costume to be. The dress her designer picked was a victorian style navy blue V-neck dress with gold embroidery along the hems of the dress. There was intricate gold embroidery all over the bodice of the dress, and the sleeves consisted of only 2 rows of flowers and lace on each one. The fashion designer picked a sapphire beaded necklace with bracelet sleeves to match along with earrings and hair pieces of the same design. Her hair was an simple updo as a diamond and sapphire crown was placed over the hairdo. The stylist had to aquire the wardrobe practically last minute, and the seamstresses under him would be paid hansomely for all of the adjustment they did in a short time frame. As the helicopter landed on the campus landing strip Manami switched her shoes for custom heels a friend lent her for the event. They were one of a kind blue heels with gold plated designs and sapphire all over the heels in a maticolously crafted pattern.

As she jogged to the event hall her 2 stylists were in tow to keep the make up and the outfit in tact. She would have to appologize to her group as she was late, and knew it was not fair to the others no matter what the reasoning was. Without glancing to her stylist Manami requested for him to call her personal assistant to prepare apology gifts for the Zuka club. As she walked into the hall Manami heard a crash, and saw the commotion unfold. Her Zuka member Haru was in the midst of it along with 2 Host members. Before she cold make it to the scene Toshiro steered the guests away from the mishap. Though she didn't like her counterpart member Manami could admit he was great at what he did.

Seeing as the guests continued on with celebrating Manami swiftly gathered some cleaning crews to take care of the mess. Walking over to the stage Manami grabbed the available mic on the table, but before she was able to speak the flashes of light from people taking pictures of her began. Taking a moment to stand on stage Manami did a few natural poses to create a good photo, but then brought the mic up to her lips. "That's Hara for you." She winked Haru's way as she let out a chuckle. It was best to address the issue noncholantly to be able to move on.

"How is everyone doing so far?" Manami paused to scan the crowd, and hear their excitement. The stage was full of bright lights, and with the music turned down she was able to continue speaking. "I'm glad to see everyone is enjoying themselves!" She gleamed. "It seems we still have people making their way in, so for now, enoy the event!" Manami didn't wait for the crowd to stop cheering. "Don't forget, this evening we have exclusive ticket raffles, giveaways, contests, and for the big surpise-" She pulled the mic away and signaled for the DJ to create some anticipation sound effects. "You can possibly win a date with your favorite host!" Again the crownd cheered, so Manami waited. "There's plently of food, drinks, and booths with prizes so don't be shy, and have fun!" Everyone in the hall was excited, and continued on with their mingling shortly after the DJ turned the volume back up. Toshiro stated that she would pull for their next drawing, but she wanted to check on Hara first.

Making her way to Hara, Manami reached out to place a hand on her cheek. "How are you?" She asked in a low tone. "Are you hurt anywhere? Do you need a break? I can distract your members if you need to step away Hara."

TADASUKE - The VP
Have you heard about the merge? The merge of the Host Club and Zuka Club, of course. What else could be more relevant?

I heard that the dean of students cut the funding for one of the clubs. Who was it? I donā€™t know. The Host Club has always been absurdly popular, but they spend a lot of money. And the Zuka club isnā€™t that popular, but they keep their budgeting in check. But either way, doesnā€™t that seem stupid? Theyā€™re the most coveted clubs on campus. If we could vote on it, I bet both of my arms that another club would get cutā€”like the astronomy club, or something.

Thatā€™s not true. I heard the dean told both clubs to merge because having a separate boyā€™s and girlā€™s club is misogynistic. Or too traditional. Something like that.

I think itā€™s fake. For publicity or something. Drama for the beginning of the school year. God, why do I bother with this placeā€¦?

I donā€™t know, man. But we do know theyā€™re merging. Why? ā€˜Cause theyā€™re holding a festival. Together. Who would have thought in a million years!? Rivals since high school, reduced to working togetherā€¦ There's something poetic about that, somewhere. Thatā€™s Garden Grove, for you. Hopefully they donā€™t fall apartā€¦

Oh, hush. Theyā€™ll be fine, I think. Plus, Iā€™m actually excited for that raffle!

Why?

Duh, ā€˜cause Wakuda is a candidate!

Wakuda Tadasuke started his first day back at university as best he could, given the circumstances. He woke up at 5:30 AM sharp. Waking up early always threatened to put puffy bags under his eyes, so he preemptively placed a Medi-Lift eye mask across his face. He got up to stretch before brushing his teeth with charcoal toothpaste and color-corrector. He took off the mask to splash water on his face and cleanse with a basic niacinamide cleanser. Toothpaste residue was a devastating way to dry skin out.

Tadasuke then went outside for a morning jog. The salty air of the ocean would be good for his lungs, and kickstarting his metabolism in the early morning would help him stay energized for the rest of the day. Plus, cardio workouts would keep him lean instead of bulking him up. He jogged around the perimeter of the Wakuda Island Estate around three times before re-entering his home.

He showered in ice cold water, and made sure to make use of his saved-up rice water to rice his hair through. He couldnā€™t afford to chalk his hair up with hair spray, so the starches would help his locks remain controlled, yet silken. Something he had picked up from his mother was proving useful.

His morning skincare routine wasnā€™t that long. Only five steps: Cleansing balm, exfoliation, toner, moisturizer, and SPF. His makeup was a similar story: faint eyeliner, pale foundation, contour, and a light rouge lip color. Nothing too overstated, but not simple: elegant.

And then there was the costume. A dazzling costume piece that wasnā€™t historically accurate, but certainly fantastical. As a whole, it was a pure white princeā€™s suit with silver accents. The parts that made it up fit together perfectly: the outer coat and its ruffled cuffs matched the jabot; the silver buttons matched the chained brooch; the sapphire gem at the notch of his neck matched the pale blue lily tucked above his left breast. Not a shade of fabric, nor a millimeter of measurement was off. The garment fit him in such a way that enhanced his slender physique and wordlessly embodied his wealthā€”his power. It was perfect in every sense of the word.

Of course it was perfect, since it was something Tadasuke sought out. He would claim nothing less than the best for himself.

Then there was breakfast. Fish probably would have been the best choice nutrient-wise, but Tadasuke was too sick of seafood to even consider it. Rice, beef tongue, pomegranate seeds, and a croissant were his choice. He paired the meal with a hot cup of earl grey. He had no concerns about ruining his costumeā€”for his household was quiet, and he had full confidence in his grace.

Every single part of his morning routine was crucial to crafting his perfection. Nothing less would sufficeā€”hence why it was ridiculous that he had to cut so many parts of his routine short. All for this absurd festival event, too. Why were they merging when the Host Club should be getting all the funding?

But he wouldnā€™t dream of being a poor team player. In fact, taking near full control of the event was the only way he could go about things. He organized the extravagant decorations, he secured a proper DJ for the event, and he spread the word of the event across campus. All managed days in advance.

Tadasuke himself was a part of entertainment as well. He folded a gloved arm over his chest, as a real prince would. He conversed with most people who arrived, generating small talk and throwing in the rare compliment; lest anyone forget he was the vice president of the Host Club. Not that anyone would, or really could. With that soft smile, that gentle sparkling in his eyes, what else could he possibly be?

Even his eventual aloofness lent to his act. Anyone who witnessed his far-off gaze would wonder what he was thinking of? A complex philosophy? Perhaps a secret lover. In reality he was counting down the hours he would be forced to spend in there, but no one had to know that.

He stared out the window at the blossoming sakura trees, posture straight, mentally moving on to the day aheadā€¦

ā€¦Until he was snapped back to reality with a CRASH.

He sensed the weight falling towards him before it crashed into him. He was able to half turn towards them. He outstretched his arms halfway as a means of defense. With the weight of someoneā€™s arms collapsing into his own, the sensation of a hot liquid spread over his chest. Tadasukeā€™s eyes shut as he quietly seethed. He couldnā€™t shout, but that didnā€™t mean he wasnā€™t shocked.

The shattering of ceramics echoed through the room, silencing the crowd in waves. Hundreds of eyes set on the two of them.

He opened his eyes to look down at who had just spilled tea over him. The person who had fallen into him was all too familiar. Ash brown hair that he was always staring at the back of, and hazel eyes that he was always avoiding. A face so dumbfounded and genuinely apologetic that it hurt Tadasuke to look at them. Hotaru Hara.

He had no words in response to her apologies other than quick dismissals. ā€œItā€™s alright,ā€ he assured her through a strained voice. His countenance didnā€™t flinch when his eyes set on the stain. But on the inside, his rage flared up. Everything he had put together to be mathematically perfect, and yet it was ruined by factors out of his control. And even then, it was still his own fault. He chose to wear all white, and that made it much more infuriating. He was frozen in the stasis of his frustration. His smile twitched.

One of the Zuka Club members came running up to the situation. After ruffling Haraā€™s hair with a playfully soothing comment, she rushed over to tend to him. When she reached out with her own dress to dry the stain, his instinct was to back away from her. The ease with which she considered touching him was jarring to him. If anything, the correct thing would be him comforting Hara, as much as he didnā€™t want to do that. Also, the fact she went to dry him with a perfectly good dress with a towel in handā€¦ were all Zuka members as dense as he remembered Hara to be?

As she waved everyone off with a jovial comment, Tadasuke masked his sigh underneath the crowdā€™s laughter. There were no chances that he could salvage the outfit: he had to change. He wasnā€™t going to leave without making an impression, though.

He slipped the outer coat off of his shoulder, careful to unclasp the brooch before taking it completely off. Silent curiosity engulfed those directly around them. He hung the coat over his arm as he unpinned his jabot. As he unbuttoned the first, second, and third buttons from the top of his shirt, a smirk curled at his lips. The light of the window cast hard shadows on the divets of his collarbone and tone of his upper body muscles. The flushed whispering around him, and lack thereof, were all indicative of one thingā€”the spotlight was his and his alone.

As quick as his egoism had swelled, it shriveled up as the static of a speaker resonated through the room. As the president of the Host Club brought the microphone to his lips, all eyes turned to him. He claimed it was in order to start calling out raffle numbers, but the timing was far too coincidental to not be related to the tea accident. Fukuzawa always did thisā€”he took the matter of distracting everyone from the mess into his own hands. A noble cause.

As Fukuzawa winked at the crowd, Tadasukeā€™s gaze couldnā€™t help but sour. All the president had to do was wink and it seemed the whole room swooned. It was effortless in an infuriating way, such as Tadasuke felt about Fukuzawa on the whole. From where he saw it, they put in half of the effort and reaped double the benefits.

Well, his fifteen seconds of fame were undoubtedly over. With the presidents of both clubs making their announcements, Haraā€™s mishap was left forgotten; and so was he. The music blared along with ambient conversation.

Tadasuke refused to turn to Hara, but he knew he had to address the Zuka club president. Though he smiled, his performative flair was gone now; all that was left was the thread of basic civility he hung from. About to snap.

He cleared his throat to catch Daigoā€™s attention. ā€œI believe I need to change. You wouldnā€™t happen to have a change of clothes, would you?ā€ As he gestured to Oboro, he added, ā€œAnd perhaps another costume for your friend here.ā€
