Earth-616- The lost Universe:
In this universe, like all the others, life went according to the basic path all the universe's go under. Mutants were not thoroughly accepted, but with the rise of the Xavier Institute, Mutant kind thrived. The only problem was the tampering of things by the Phoenix Force. The Death of Jean proved to be a ill-thought tactic, for her younger cousin was far greater of power and too undisciplined at the time. Everyone thought the Grey Effect was short lived due to the fact that he'd mysteriously disappeared. But the worst was yet to come.
Charles Xavier had witnessed and withstood the Grey Effect, but he could feel the residual energy actually breaking down what was left of their world. With some calculations done by himself and Dr. McCoy, they'd come to realize that in ten years time, there would be Nothing in the place of what they were. It was then that the Phoenix, in the Visage of Jean, came to make a barter. It could use the untapped energy of their doomed yet powerful future to replicate their world almost exactly, and even carry the person's and minds of those that existed and were to be over--but one would have to stay behind to ensure everyone was on board.
Both Charles and the entity knew it would have to be him.
Without haste, Charles forfeited his right to existing in this new world so the Human Race would have another chance. He bonded with the Phoenix and his power augmented to the point where he could see past what the Celebro could--he could see lives that could be, lives that would help aid the fact that he wouldn't be there. Using this to his advantage, he left a marker--a glimmer of hope--within the minds of these mutants and men.
And, just like that, the spark of life that held this doomed world together flickered out.

NPC Characters will be broken down into two catergories: Aware and Unaware.
The Aware are special, for they were resistant to the Charles/Phoenix's reset. They know exactly what is going on and they are either furthering their own goals with this knowledge or out to help the new team understand everything that is happening.

The Enlightenment:
Founded in the year 2009, This syndicates sole purpose was once to ensure the safety and prosperity of Mutantkind. This world did not have Charles Xavier to set a foundation for which Mutants had any rights at all. They only had the inclination to remain secret, which avoided issues that many other universe's still contended with--the Sentinels being the most crucial point.
The Mutants came into the light at a time when acceptance was more of a reality than a concept. Following in the footsteps of peaceful activist, Dr. Martin Luther King Sr., Erik Lennsherr made it a point to express peace and unification of the opposing sides of the argument. For a while, there was as much peace as either side could muster. At the end of the day, Mutants were still human.
This all changed when Emma Grace Frost lead a coupe d'gras against her mentor and friend. From then on, the Enlightment only had one goal in mind: Divide and Conquer.
Their base of operations sits on the island of Genosha, but their reach extends farther than that island. And the White Queen has put herself in a position to declare war...
