Many years ago, at the peak of our technological advancement, we found an answer to an age old question...Are we alone?
They came from a neighboring galaxy, Andromeda, and we didn't know it till they were here. But we knew it when they arrived...
They struck fast and they struck hard, but we struck back.
War raged for a few as we fought for our planet and they fought against it. And we almost won. Somehow, we don't know to this day, we disabled their ship, permanently... and in retaliation they disabled our planet. We're still not sure how but they hit it with something, a dark people energy we dubbed dark matter...It spread violently, killing anything it touched, and so we fled. We took to ships and launched the space stations we had and fled into orbit.
Things fell into an odd...stalemate. They stayed in their ship in our orbit, we were in ours. Over the following years, as earth was ravaged, we adapted. The orbit around Earth was filled with debris, precious metals, electronics, resources just floating in space. So we used them, we expanded, the small station we went up in became a sprawling city, humanities refuge in space.
But things can not remain. They cannot remain. Humanity must transcend it's limits...
And we transcended...
Advances in technology brought about a new capability. We developed the ability to download a human conscious into robotic constructs and then reupload them into their previous body. The first test bots were simple and compact, made only to complete simple tasks. But as we grew more bold and more complex we realized these constructs could be created and used to fight back against the visitors, to beat them. We Transcended.
