Realistic or Modern tiny group casual apocalypse RP

(forgive the 'realistic' tag, I just did it.)


So, as the title says, a small casual (as it is exams now) apocalyptic RP for semi-literate-literate roleplayers. Most importantly, this will be a 'story' we create; so the characters and the relationships that preexist and they develop are very important! This also means that this won't be so much an 'action packed' high-stress fast-post "every other situation is a fight to the death" apocalypse RP. I'm thinking zombies, or some kind of version of that (but nothing too crazy; like I said, this has to be more tailored to the breaking of human morality and development through experience and how fear twists people). I don't think I'd like to do a 'right when the apocalypse starts' RP, instead we should establish a foundation (anything from 5 to 20 years in the future). Now...


Two Basic Plot Ideas:


1) It is only a couple years into this apocalypse, so society isn't established and there is less industrialized corruption and more 'crazies'. Everyone is still in this high-stress survivor's mode, most all of the 'weak' have been weeded out, most resources depleted (or in dangerous areas), there are a number of societies being built but no 'one big' safe place. This would be more around when researchers are desperate, unorthodox, and people are all essentially PTSD stricken soldiers just hardly settled into a routine.


2) Roughly twenty years into the future, with a mix of characters who were around when it started (so most of the characters will be late thirties, early fourties, or mid-sixties). By this time, civilizations have been made and most of the 'death camp' sounds of earlier societies are but a distant memory. This wouldn't be everyone is from the newer generation, in fact, it would mostly be the older people struggling with the new. And while society has been rebuilt more, although a bit corrupt and paranoid, there are still critically high danger zones fenced off and a lot of vague underlying tension in medical research and military power. An idea for this could be the 'antidote' child is born (cliche but good basis for a plot), someone who was situated in the ghettos decides to go into uncharted territory in hopes to find their own personal Eden, or someone from 'inside the fences' of society sneaks out after committing a death-punishable crime and joins a rag-tag group of survivalists who live off the land and look for a hope.


Anyone want to post some character ideas? Relationships/histories/interactions? I'll brainstorm a bit, here's a generic fun forum to fill out on here. Just go for it, if we hit it off- we hit it off, if we don't we don't. No harm in it :-)

random ideas (story/character plot):

They fell in love somewhere in the midst of the crazy apocalypse, and lived off the land in uncharted territory. An English major and Chemistry major, one a teacher and one a scientist. She had been recruited to work on the search for a cure of the outbreak, but concealing a pregnancy in a world that didn't know how the disease carried proved to be a challenge; usually children and pregnancies were terminated, illness and death not tolerated in this new high-security compound. The first child was born, and because of the woman's extensive respectability in the clinic she was allowed to keep this one child, because it was her only one. The baby grew up in a world of sterile white walls and extreme knowledge, but eventually things became more corrupt and the two lovers planned to leave by the time their first was 5, another concealed-by-a-friend just turning 2. They had hardly escaped the dangers of breaking such rules, and on the verge of discovering a cure; corruption took hold. As a human experiment, leaders took the 2 year old and injected him with a potentially lethal mutation that would either kill him via internal radiation or prove to be an antidote of sorts that made him immune.


Now, the couple tried to escape, resulting in a child of rape and the loss of her husbands sight. However, they escaped; taking the antidote with them. The establishment fell to ruin, corruption from the inside resulting in a revolt.


The most traumatizing thing happened, their son who was immune to the bite was attacked in the night by a herd of zombies when he snuck off; and came back alive, missing chunks of his skin, mauled beyond belief or recognition. But still alive. The father, unable to see the damage, took it upon himself with his partner's pleading to put him out of their misery for she could not bear to see this with her own eyes shot his son. 20 years later, the family lives in a ghetto of a newer 'city'. They have two children, the oldest with a particular hate of his younger brother; the child of the man who ruined his parents lives.

Two girlfriends who spent their days prior to the apocalypse getting high and taking candid photos of one another. They were only teenagers, whose parents did not approve of their love, so when the apocalypse hit they ran away together. They ended up being thieves, using their collective beauty and wits to slink around as a 'Bonnie and Clyde' type of duo.

She was more underground than her younger brother, who actually was a phenomenal survivalist (lost his fiancee at the beginning of the apocalypse and was completely shut down after) in honor of him, after he dies sacrificing himself; she adopts his name in place of her own as she goes on to be the 'right hand man' in a high-action military-esque walled city. They engage in primarily training legions, but protecting civilians, and she; a woman of such short stature and weary experience, is still at peak condition and well-feared and respected in her community. She also had a fiance who she could never quite carry through to an actual marriage with, training as a doctor and recruited; she hasn't seen him since.
