THOSE WHO
CARRIED ON

THE FUNERAL
The Funeral began about 20 years ago, though the exact date given by those alive at the time varies. Though the nature of whatever caused the chaos isn't known, it's suspected to spread akin to a virus. Those who are infected quickly progress to a state of murderous intention, always ending with at least the causality of the infected person. The disease seems to develop within a few days after exposure to someone sick, with no known measures to stop or slow it once it's taken hold. The circumstances one can catch it under are still unclear, but it's generally accepted it can be caught in two ways: proximity to an infected person, or seemingly long periods of isolation.

SYMPTOMS
β€’ Withdrawal
β€’ Sluggishness
β€’ Pallor
β€’ Yellow nailbeds or fingertips
β€’ Shortened temper
β€’ Heightened aggression or paranoia
β€’ Murderous rage
β€’ Suicidal tendencies
SETTING AND TIMELINE
Though the events around the beginning and history of the Funeral are unclear, it's generally accepted that the illness started sometime in the early months of 2020. Since then, 20 years have passed, making it 2040. Our characters are currently in Philadelphia and its outskirts.

LOCATIONS
Cellar Wall: A large marble wall in the center of the city erected at the very beginning of the Funeral. Names were engraved on the stone, first cleanly, but then in jagged slashes as higher order fell from the city and civilians began marking their own with rusty pocket knives. Now the Wall is so full most inscriptions are illegible, but makeshift copies made from cardboard still float around it with names cast only in Sharpie.

The Hills: A name affectionately given to the old corporate area of the city by survivors. Funnily enough, almost none of the skyscrapers are still standing, the ones that held relics of exposed metal and shattered glass. Most that come to the Hills are scavengers, but squabbles over the last dregs of supplies make it one of the most dangerous places to be.

Rubyland: Once a back alley teetering with vivacious nightlife, Rubyland is now a gritty shadow of what it used to be. Some risk going just to see another's face, but the survivors who own it are more ruthless than the isolation. If you're willing to be even more risky, you can bring something valuable and see what you get in exchange.
