[border=5px dashed CornflowerBlue ]Following devastating rains all through last Winter, the nation's five and a half acres of arable land were flooded for a period of nine days, leading to the loss of an estimated twelve pounds of beetroot.

Government officials have remained silent so far, but the question on everyone's minds remains: who will we import beets from in the aftermath of this event? Some support Moldovan beets, while others support acquiring Ukrainian, or even Russian, produce. But these positions are highly politicized, leading some to believe the festival may be in danger for the first time in seventeen millenia of continuous Transnistrian identity.

Armed revolutionary groups in the unrecognized [I]Moldovo-Romanian Republic of Northern Transnistria[/I] have claimed full responsibility for the rains, supposedly caused by bribing meteorologists. The validity of these claims is currently under investigation by the proper authorities[/border]

Revolutionary Faction of the Social Republican Party Threatens to Split in Schismatic Controversy
clLHtMo.png

The People's House/Popular Palace, the headquarters of the Social Republican Party

16/08/1610 11:00 pm | Edurre, Edury
Hector Haagen for the Edurre Sunday Foreign Times

The Social Republican Party, a junior member of the majority coalition under Lodwyk Drees, has often been divided into several factions. The Radical, or Revolutionary faction has always been a major component of the secondary party. This week, that faction, lead by the popular member Lodwyk Vendermeer, announced that if the Party didn't drop certain parts of it's suggested agenda and adopt previously dropped items, that they would split to form their own movement.

The Social Republican Party became a partner in the Blue Coalition earlier this year, when the current Chamber of Consuls and the victorious Lodwyk Drees took power. Their primary addition to the coalition agenda was the Rent Abation Bill, noted as Consular Bill 140-015, which sought to restrict rent on urban apartments and either dramatically lessen, or even abolish alltogether, the rent of lower income government housing. While other parts of the SRP's suggested agenda have either been tacitly endorsed by coalition leadership or made it onto the coalition agenda, some members of the party say that these don't go far enough, or even betray the purpose of the party entirely.

"It's absurd," says Vendermeer, seen by many as the leader of the revolutionary faction, "Our party, which was supposed to be the one to fight for the liberation of all people. And yet our leadership pats themselves on the backs for getting a reduction in rent on the table- not even passed, just in committee!"

Other Social Republicans, both domestically and internationally, have accused Vendermeer of going too far. "He sees himself and his image for what the party should be as the forerunners to a class revolution." said Klaus Bak, a Social Republican from Andmyr who is active in Eduran politics, "That's vanguard-ism. They see themselves as doctrinists, but Social Republicanism denounces that."

When asked for a comment, the Magisterial Office said that while they disagree with the dissenting members, they were free to do as they felt their consience dictated. Privately, Consul Josephzoon, who wished to go unnamed, said that if the party was split, that the outgoing faction would not be invited to join the majority coalition, and any dissenting Consuls would be forced to be independent or form their own coalition.

When asked for a comment, the official leadership of the SRP did not respond.◿

Major Florencian Military Exercises Wrap Up
MS56VU4I6ZFEXN5VZ67VEB7M3M.jpg

Periaduzhaen Militiamen of the 2-256th Rifle, 20th Mountain Division on patrol during the third week of Exercise Rapid Sunder.

16/08/1610 09:00 pm | Twin Springs, Republic of Aydakho, Florencian Republics
Kert Lymaen of Patriot!, International Branch

Today marks the conclusion of a thirty day long military exercise centered around the Fort Prout-Joint Maneuver Training Area (JMTA) in Northern Aydakho. The largest Union Military Establishment exercise in nearly a decade, it involved over 60,000 Army, Air Defense Forces, National Militia, and Standing Scarlet Guard personal. A spokesperson from the Zhaska High Command released a statement expressing satisfaction at the results of the of the exercise, coined "Rapid Defender" which tested the ability of the National Militia to speedily mobilize, deploy, and conduct combined arms operations on a short time table. This portion of the exercise revolved around the 40th Armored Division based out of the Northwestern republics, with supporting composite combat commands from the 20th Mountain, 47th Rifle, ad 86th Rifle, all National Militia organized units. This provisional army was tasked with fending off an assault by the resident opposition force of the JMTA, the 643rd Composite Combat Command reinforced by additional Union Army elements that included the 56th Cavalry RCT.

In just five days all National Militia units were able to muster, equip, and marshal into the training area to begin mock operations against the 643rd Combat Command. After ten days on the defensive the exercise was flipped, with the republican organized reserves mounting a counter offensive against the opposing force which lasted the remaining duration of the exercise. Besides testing the readiness and ability of the Northwestern republics's militiamen, this exercise also marked the occasion for tankers from both the 40th Armored and 56th Cav to test out new systems. The M-8DE1 Wolf main battle tanks that have been the mainstay of the ground forces for two decades have recently received both new upgrades and life extension packages meant to maintain their lethality on the modern battlefield. Of note is a new (and largely classified) active protection system that supplements the survivability of the Wolf to both hand held and crew served anti-tank missile systems. This new technology has progressed past the prototype stage, yet still has teething issues and kinks that must be addressed before the first armored cavalry regiments receive this new upgrade. Tankers from both units expressed great interest and approval after hands on application of the active protection system, and the Union Army is confident that first rate armor units will begin to update their tanks within the next year.

Both Exercise Rapid Defender and army modernization come after a new spout of military spending was authorized by the All-Union Congress at the behest of the newly incumbent Chancellor Buso Adeler, who was elected to the high office on a coalition ticket between the NazReps and Free Soilers that promised saber rattling towards the enemies of progressive revolution abroad. Dissenters from the Libertine Union and Florencian Situationist Chapter specifically have decried this expansion, citing both a dangerous enlargement of the industrial complex and the ability of the military to safeguard both the nation and social republican experiment more than adequately with its past budget. The Free Soil Party in particular has been quite vocal for increased spending to address the supposed "stealth gap" that exists between Florencia's air forces and Zhenia. Both the Army Air Forces and Air Defense Forces of the Homeland have received newer fifth generation stealth pursuit planes, yet production was partially halted until Chancellor Adeler ordered the lines to reopen. Warhawks from the NazVeks have also voiced concerns regarding the "nuclear gap", though Chancellor Adeler and the ruling popular front have refused to pursue neither an expansion nor modernization of the Strategic Weapons Command.

Regardless of the political bickering and back room deals that lead to Exercise Rapid Defender, the men and women of the National Militia are most likely more than happy to enjoy a hot meal and shower after spending a month in the field.

StarEast Airlines makes first direct flight to Andemyr
9siLKNq.jpg

The emerging Zhenian long-haul budget carrier made history as it launched its first direct flight to Andemyr in great fanfare.

18/08/1610 08:39 am ZEST | Gwangseong, Gyeongcheon Province, Zhenia
Raymond Zhu for the Zhenia Shinbo's International Edition

StarEast Airlines, a new major player in the Zhenian aviation industry, has made history this morning, as its first-ever direct flight to Andemyr departed the runways of Gwangseong's Munmu International Airport just minutes ago, marking an entirely new chapter in the airline's history as well as the history of Gwangseong.

StarEast Airlines flight SE087, a Boeing 787-9 heading from Gwangseong Munmu International Airport (IATA: GMU) to Grave International Airport (IATA: GIA) in a 10-hour flight, departed the runway of Gwangseong Munmu International Airport on 8:30 AM. It is the first time in not only the airline's history but also the history of Gwangseong to open a direct flight to western Azora. Around 250 passengers filled the historical first flight from Gwangseong to Grave, while the flight met wide fanfare by the media and the local government.

"This is a milestone time in our history," proclaimed Mayor of Gwangseong Kim Yoonsik. "Gwangseong, like the historically prosperous port it once was, will be directly connected to Andemyr and Azora once again. The new flight will leave a lasting impact on the international business and commercial potential of the city, while it would also cater to the growing aviation demands of connecting the Gwangseong metropolitan region with Azora."

The airline, founded in 1602 AC, began as a start-up with a completely different business model from existing players in the Zhenian aviation industry: while existing budget carriers focused primarily on point-to-point short-haul routes with narrow-body aircraft, they chose to focus on long-haul routes that previously had inadequate demand to justify direct flights from smaller major cities across the nation. Internally calling itself a 'hybrid service carrier', the airliner expanded its business portfolio with unique approaches, such as acquiring one of the world's first airline fleet entirely consisting of Boeing 787-9 aircraft, as well as the elimination of first and basic economy classes altogether in favor of a two-class configuration consisting of 44-inch premium economy and 35-inch standard economy seats. It leveraged aggressive pricing policies to gain ground against competing routes in East Tarsis, launching several domestic and international routes primarily connecting Gwangseong and other major cities across the region. Starting with the operation of the Gwangseong-Tianjing route between Zhenia and Yinguo, it has significantly expanded its list of international destinations, today making another first for not only the airline but also for Gwangseong itself, with a three-times-a-week direct flight between Gwangseong and Grave.

Previously, Andemyr was served by direct flights between Daedo, Jinhae, Shinhang, Ariul and Geonju, mostly by either Zhenian Airways and Air Zhenia, the two giants of the Zhenian passenger aviation industry. While existing flight connections to Andemyr covered a considerable majority of the Golden Arc region and central Zhenia, it had failed to cater to the business aviation demands at Gwangseong, which only grew with the ever-growing economy of the city's metropolitan region. While other contenders, such as Monitava, Kathia and Vathora, Achysia, were up for consideration as StarEast's first direct flight destination to western Azora, Grave was chosen in favor of its business potential and proximity to Zhenia as per the great circle route, as well as the various transfer flight options available from Grave. Hence, the City of Gwangseong submitted proposals for a flight connecting Gwangseong and Grave to multiple Zhenian carriers, but StarEast was the first to grasp the opportunity.

StarEast Airlines is expected to connect Gwangseong with the Myrish city with three-times-a-week flight from this point and beyond, with flights departing every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. The returning flight, SE088, will depart from Grave on the evening of the same day, local time.

Andemyr to hit drivers’ wallets to combat air pollution
VQYLIa3.png

The cancel wants to raise toll rates fivefold by this winter.

17/08/1610 2:20 pm | Grave, Andemyr
Marc Ibsen for The Local Myr

Already by this winter, the Grave, Anttu, Tusmetsand, and Hovetgårdt City Councils have stated they wish to increase road tolls to 125 tere (€17.50, $20) on days with especially heavy air pollution.

“We hope it will not be necessary to introduce the new rule, but we cannot accept that the people of Tusmetsand must remain indoors because of the air pollution,” Tusemtsand city councillor Elisabeth Jette Bjerregaard told TLM.

A recent study finds that increasing the aforementioned tolls to such a high level will reduce car traffic in Grave by 25 percent, thus cutting nitrogen dioxide (NO2) emissions.

Last winter, there were nearly seven days with high air pollution in Grave. On such days this winter, heavy vehicles will have to pay 125 tere in tolls if the proposal is adopted in Grave, Anttu, Tusmetsand, and Hovetgårdt.

The Myrish Automobile Federation (MAF) has stated that the city government should stop proposing such emergency measures instead of implementing long-term solutions like commuter parking and shuttle buses to improve the air quality in their cities.

The city councils announced plans in April to ban private cars from the downtown area by 1611 as part of the plan to slash the greenhouse gas emissions by half.

Anttu and Grave are also due to get two new bicycle expressways in a move designed to have cycling account for between 10 and 20 percent of all daily trips in the nine largest cities in Andemyr. Currently, only Hovetgårdt comes close to that mark, with eight percent of daily commutes done on two wheels.

Disputes Turn Violent in Legislative Council Vote
iu

Members of the RDP and IRP broke out in hand to hand combat after a contenous vote turned violent

18/8/1610 5:31 am | Toli Abayad, Abayad
Hanadi Shaban for Abayad Morning

A brawl erupted in Abayad’s Legislative Drafting Council Monday as a Rally for Democracy! lawmaker was elected chair of a chief committee to rewrite sections of the nation’s Code of Civil Procedure, a position that RDP and Institutional Revolution Party members had clashed with RDP members for weeks over in a battle culminating in today’s brawl.

The Legislative Drafting Committee in Abayad’s National Assembly, which creates legislative committees to enact certain bills passed by the legislature, had been unable to fill the chair position for the new committee for weeks as the two primary parties of the nation contested the seat. The RDP and IRP parties are traditionally the largest in Abayad’s government, although many smaller ones have traditionally formed coalition governments with one or the other, or even both.

Today’s fracus was not the first time a fight has broken out on the National Assembly floor. Earlier this year, an altercation erupted over the issue of lowering tariffs on foreign-made automobiles, resulting in a fight between RDP and IRP members that resulted in their both being removed. However, today’s rustlings involved multiple members from both parties. After the Legislative Drafting Committee held a surprise vote that narrowly met quorum, its RDP members successfully voted in Arif Baddour as the chair of the new committee, over the protests of the few IRP who could attend the meeting on the fifteen minutes notice given by Jihan Faraj, one of the three Overseers of the Committee.

The fight ensued mid-vote, with old-guard IRP member Nabil Turay hurling insults at RDP deputies as they voted verbally, eventually escalating to physical blows when he lashed out at Mazin Younes, a deputy elected from his own district. Members of both parties attempted to intervene, but the fight instead escalated to blows being thrown by multiple members of both sides in the chaos. Order was eventually restored, with six members (all of whom had already voted) being removed from the chambers in total.

The vote resumed after the offending deputies were removed, and Baddour was confirmed as the chair of the new committee. Control over the new committee has been an object of serious contention since the National Assembly’s passing of several measures last year designed to reform the code of civil procedure. Most revolve around increasing standards of pleading in certain cases, such as those involving fraud of negligence. Consumer and workers’ advocate groups have especially come out against the laws, calling them over protective or corporations and essentially covering up their wrongdoing. With the pro-business and anti-regular RDP in control of this new committee, it seems that that party will have a defining voice in the months to come in the process.

Monday’s incident demonstrates Abayad’s increasingly fractured political climate, with the liberal RDP and leftist IRP becoming increasingly polarized and sectarian. The IRP, in particular, is divided between its old guard Hamalists and younger members, as it attempts to remain relevant despite serious steps taken away from its founding principles of labor populism and syndicalism.

Prime Minister Layla Qadir of the IRP party denounced the actions of members of both parties involved with the fight, as well as the methods employed by the RDP, calling them “underhanded.” She went on the speak further on the topic, saying, “the Abayadi people should not and will not be subjected to attacks on their consumer rights and rights as workers in this fashion. Any laws proposed by the committee that threaten either of these will receive no love from this government.” Many believe that this process and how the public will respond to it will define the upcoming elections.

Achysian marines arrive in Andemyr for winter military training
X63Ibg3.png

About 700 Achysian Marines arrived in Andemyr’s Tusmetsand Airport on Tuesday as part of a bilateral agreement in which they will undergo winter training led by Myrish troops.

18/08/1610 12:00 pm | Tusmetsand, Andemyr
Anja Kjeldsen for the Tusmetsand Daily Observer

The Myrish military has announced that about 700 Achysian Marines have arrived in Andemyr for a six-month deployment. Most of the 730 Marines arrived via several Achysian military planes at the Tusmetsand Airport on Tuesday. Andemyr said the arrival of the Achysian forces is part of a previous bilateral agreement between Grave and Vathora. The Achysian troops that arrived will be replaced in six months by Marines who will also be deployed for six months.

Myrish Col. Christopher Søndergaard said the Achysian forces will undergo basic winter training.

"Basic skills is about how to dress appropriately and to move efficiently in cold weather and winter terrain," Søndergaard said in a statement. "They will also learn to drink and eat properly, and how to best utilize and maintain their equipment in cold weather."

The marines hope to arrive in the northern town of Hokkdal by next week. The town, located in the far north province of Grimflege, is the starting point of many arctic training exercises. In just 10 days, the troops will march in harsh conditions to Finnstrand where the marines will cross fjords, construct ‘igloos’, start fires, prepare food, and survive in the harsh arctic conditions.

In the following months, the Achysian Marines will be able to muster, equip, and marshal into the training area to begin mock operations against the Myrish Army. Besides the training of the ground forces, training for Achysian helicopter and tank troops will be conducted alongside the marines. A range of disciplines is covered to ensure the Achysian army and Air Force can operate in a demanding environment, including but not limited to cold weather.

Skills learned here are applicable in the mountains and high deserts of Abayad and Zhenia as well as during winter chills supporting operations in Kathia. The philosophy is “If you can survive and operate effectively here, you can survive and operate anywhere.”

Regardless of what happens during the 6-month training, the men and women of the Achysian army will be happy to return to the warm beaches of their home country.

AZORANS ARE PREPARING TO INVADE...or that's what Enora Jareon will have you think
FaceApp_1597773656205.png

This is only the latest lunacy and conspiracy to come from Miss Jareon

18/08/1610 | Saint Vera-Federal District, Florencian Republics
Kaen Daesung of Patriot!

Recently a small force of Achysian Marines, just around 700 soldiers have begun training in Andemyr. As reported on by other international news outlets, it's a relatively straight forward exercise in winter conditions. Hardly anything to garner the attention of the Union Military Establishment, which just wrapped up it's own significantly bigger drills that included over 60,000 soldiers from multiple branches. Yet the ever eccentric Enora Jareon, renown for her outlandish theories and unabashed nationalist revolutionary fervor that makes even the most ardent NazVek member blush, claims we should be worried. Very worried in fact. In her latest podcast on the Florencian based video sharing/streaming platform Verve, Jaren claimed this relatively minor joint training exercise between the Achysians and Myrish is a stepping stone to invasion. To quote her "The only thing that unites the Azorans together is their mutual hatred for our values and liberties. Both these countries hate each other. I'm telling you comrades, pay attention. I've been saying this for years and the establishment says I'm crazy. But when Azoran paras are dropping from the skies to come rape our women and burn our [redacted] temples, they'll see I'm right." The spokesperson for the Office of the Chancellery was quick to disarm these claims and the Zhaska High Command of the Military didn't even bother to entertain her. Yet Jareon is insistent that the prototype for the destruction of social republicanism is at hand and clearly being broadcasted to any revolutionary patriot with a good conscious.

Now Miss Jareon is no stranger to controversy. In the past she has made claims that the Lybonrek Nuclear Terror Attack , the worst act of terror and barbarism to be committed in both Florencia and the World, was not the result of radicalized anarchic theocrats of the Yellow Hand. But rather sleeper agents of Azoran Powers carrying out a false flag attack to weaken the Union. Or for instance when she believed that the prior administration to Chancellor Buso Adeler and First Secretary Véranil Kontic had been bought out by the Zhenians and purposefully reducing military spending to make an invasion of the Motherland easier for our enemies abroad. Perhaps the closest she's ever been to relaying the truth was calling on the Union government to forcibly disband and try members of the True Democratic Party, a minor footnote in Florencian political discourse. Of course the True Democrats were unabashedly anti-social republican and favored a model of government similar to the enemies of progressive revolution abroad. It was no surprise to any when the party was banned and it's members fined for spreading reactionary propaganda — an affront to every liberty loving patriot within the Florencian Republics. Now these conspiracies have been continuously debunked by various reporters, government officials, and third party fact checkers. Yet Miss Jareon's base — urban radicals favoring perpetual revolution, rural federal government skeptics, and Fundamentalists, continue to religiously tune in and support her.

And her newest podcast regarding Achysian marines in Andemyr has only galvanized the attention of ultra-revolutionaries. Plenty of radicals took to various social media platforms decrying the inability of the Union Military to appropriately respond to these foreign military exercises. Which only rallied further attention to the Free Soil Party and it's current plan to draw up an increase of the budget for the Army Air Forces and Air Defense Forces of the Homeland to address the widening stealth gap with Zhenia.

Miss Jareon also drew the ire of both the Achysian and Myrish migrant communities. The position of all respectable political factions and the government since the victory of social republicanism a century ago has been that the reactionary governments of foreign regressive republics and autocracies are the true enemies of progress. Their citizenry either unwilling participants in a corrupt system or cowed by the opioids of capital and an oppressive security apparatus. Yet Jareon has built her ultra-revolutionary message on a foundation of nationalist supremacy with an explicit message of Florencian ethnic primacy. She claimed that both the Achysian and Myrish people are a plethora of words that Patriot! doesn't want our younger or more sensible readers to see. Yet migrant communities have heard the words and their are murmurings within the National Republican Party's New Citizen Caucus that a possible hate speech or defamation lawsuit could be made.

Regardless, similar attempts have been made in the past to de-platform Enora Jareon and her nationalist ultra-revolutionary rhetoric, yet she as withered all of those negative media storms and continues to spread her message. As she said "I'm taking the fight to both counter-revolutionary sympathizers at home and the limp [redacted] cowardly big moneyists and monarchs abroad. The Motherland has been fighting for the revolutionary soul of the nation for a century and I'm doing my duty for the Supreme Being, country, and the citizenry. If they take me off the air on Verve I'll just find another platform. It's too easy."

The Death of a Nation Or: How the Myrish People Sold Themselves Out
Myrmark_Emblem.png

The national emblem of the Myrish Commonwealth is a call back to an earlier time when their nation could be considered a great power

18/08/1610 10:31 | Serrapole, FR of Athicar, Florencian Republics
Enora Jareon — RevPraxis

Recently a detachment of marines from the Empire of Achysia were deployed to the Myrish Commonwealth. At best this is an alarming escalation of force displacement by the reactionaries on the Azoran continent. At worst there are additional nefarious purposes behind this deployment. It is my hope that any readers can recognize the serious threat that these powers continue to pose to Florencia and our social republican experiment. As one of our great founding figures wrote, Alej R. Khaik wrote in regards to the dire straits that gripped our nascent state many years ago, a progressive revolution would fail if those "seeking to combat the natural rights of the citizenry through subversive or armed confrontation are not met with direct and appropriate action". Since then our social republican federation has been at odds with the regressive powers of the globe. The Great Cencius wrote that the national and revolutionary struggle for our nation would be nigh perpetual should foreign autocracies or parliamentarian police states continue to oppose us. The ideals of Florencia and the liberties dearly enshrined into our constitution and woven into the fabric of our nation will forever incline us to oppose these oppressors. And our nation is no safer today from foreign empires then it was a century ago during Scarlet Autumn.

As the forces of reaction gather in Andemyr, it ought be important for us to trace how the Myrish Commonwealth wound up in it's present state. How their government gleefully beckons in those who once raped and pillaged their lands. How the Myrish people went from a hardy and sturdy seafaring folk to a weak capitulated monarchy.

Long ago during a much romanticized period of iron swords and chain armor, the Myrish were like any other peoples following the Calamity. Yet they expanded and from their fishing hamlets began to take to the seas. As a product of their time the Myrish Kings waged war and conquest on their fellow neighbors and brought riches back to their subjects. The first path to their destitution resulted in their minor colonization of the New World following their failure to conquer Salia. With modern hindsight we can't totally fault these peoples for seeking the subjugation of natives on a different continent. As stated they were a product of their time and no different from any of the other old imperial powers, except perhaps for their mastery of the tides.

And in fact it could be said that the failed invasion of the Salian peoples prior to the Myrish Civil War in 1094 is what began the gradual downfall of their culture and peoples. The kings wrecked the country and opened it up to cultural subjugation by the Vayonists. The Myrish had failed as a people capable of mastering the blade over their neighbors. Now they failed their heritage and cultural by allowing their neighbors to enact a soft power stranglehold through religion. To this day the Myrish traditional gods are rarely, if at all worship. A contrast to our own traditional religious rekindling in Florencia. And the Myrish even failed their colonists in the New World by fully abandoning them. Of course their imperialist colony was not properly won through revolutionary struggle nor was it righteous, as they stole resources and enslaved native peoples just like any other cowardly Old World empire. Yet they even lacked the proper national character to maintain contact with their own peoples.

As time progressed the Myrish would only continue to wage cowardly wars and either re-oppress free citizens in the New World, or lose to smaller Old World powers. Such as when Edury retook the island of Halvmane. With our modern (and progressive eyes) we can observe the Myrish were only capable of winning a war if it was on a technologically inferior (but perhaps morally and cultural superior) peoples. The rare outlier being a fling with Salia in 1410. Though it could be argued that the Myrish soldiers did not win the war, but the winter did. Regardless, the Myrish had continually failed to win in their imperial wars of aggression since the decline of their culture and character in the 1000s. Their great national embarrassment of course was their occupation under the Achysians during the Second Great War. If it were not for Florencian guns and Salian blood, perhaps they'd be speaking Achysian Elyrian dialect. Once again we can contrast our nation's experience. The forces of progressive revolution were victorious in that war. We Florencians stood triumphant, the Myrish sulked as they went about rebuilding their nation.

Now that we have summarized the Myrish peoples and history, it is clear they have been plagued with destruction. Be it in the form of a nation ravaged by continuous wars of aggression throughout the ages, or a much softer moral decay. Today they are a regressive republic. Neither progressive like Florencia's fraternal brothers and sisters in Abayad nor a proper republic like our system. Their country's history is the perfect contrast to our own. A playbook for us to study and learn what not to do. We must never sell out our national character to foreign deleterious ideals. Nor must we wage continuous wars of aggression that bring us to ruin. Nor must we subsume ourselves to a parliamentarian police state that is itself a puppet to the transnational global agenda of the Azoran Community.

The Myrish country has been ill for many years and we Florencians know that the only remedy for such a sickness is a progressive revolution. It is the natural march of history after all. It is the hope of this author that the Myrish people can gain the strength and willpower to pursue their fated self determination and enter the community of civilized nations as an equal. To make right the many wrongs of their path. They were once a sturdy sea faring folk and perhaps they can bail out their sinking ship by throwing overboard the burdensome load that is the big moneyists and parliament.

But we cannot simply observe the world through rose-tinted glasses. The Azoran Community still stands opposed to the ideals of life, liberty, and love. It is my hope that this reader can recognize the threats the Azoran and Zhenian reaction-states pose to our Motherland. Achysian troops gather in Andemyr and drill invasion tactics. Yet our own government refuses to acknowledge this threat. Yet when the hour approaches, this author is confident we Florencians will know what to do.

Newest Blood and Honor Entry Promises Gritty Take on Second Great War

The Second World War needs no introduction or contextualization for anyone over the age of five. It's lasting effects continue to influence the globe to this day and has been the source of countless media portrayals both at home and abroad. Within Florencia it's depiction in literature, the big screen, or gaming is second only to the revolutionary period. For many nations the Second Great War can be a very subjective topic. There were few overt "good" or "bad" guys. Both the Azorans and the Eastern powers had mired themselves in a state of imperialist blood-letting. For those in Florencia the war is normally perceived as a cut and dry affair. A romanticized view of the conflict prevails in the minds of many and perhaps rightfully so. The Florencian Republics entered the war to curb reactionary aggression on her neighbors in the Hanmaric. And for all intents and purposes, the goal the Union Military Establishment set out on was achieved. Often the war is considered a relatively speedy (in relation to the decade spanning revolutionary period) affair that showcased the triumph of progressive revolution over the forces of reaction. More realistic depictions of this war capture the individual and collective heroism of soldiers and units in addition to the tragedies and loss that occurred in this conflict. Many Florencians can be quick to forget the human toll of war. The lives that were cut short and extinguished by modern industrial conflict in the blink of an eye. All too often the narrative of the Second Great War is one of Azoran folly and Florencian victory. The developers at the ZeroUltra gaming cooperative seek to counter attack this dual portrait and present players with a realistic and nuanced portrayal.

Blood and Honor III: Bathed in Flames is the newest entry to the franchise and will be released this holiday season following a four year development cycle. And with it will come an end to updates for the last entry, Blood and Honor II: Scarlet Days, which saw players battling it out during the civil war phase of the Florencian Revolution. Bathed in Flames will follow the more serious and realistic tone of it's predecessor, with revamped gunplay and vehicles. While multiplayer is always the main selling point for these first person shooter games, the Blood and Honor series has been championed by gamers as a franchise that pays equal and careful attention to both. The single player campaign portion has been rumored to be a staggering ten hour story that takes place in the muddy boots of a Union Marine in the Hanmaric, a Salian liberating Akerland, and an Achysian paratrooper struggling with the crimes of his fatherland. While both Akerland and the Hanmaric Theatre of the war have seen a near constant depiction in Florencian media, the inclusion of an Achysian point of view to the war will be an unique experience for players. The developers have promised it won't be a mindless villain goose-stepping to the whims of an autocratic state, but rather a soldier whose loyalty to his country is brought into question as Achysia finds itself plagued by enemies at the gate. The All-Union Marine portion of the campaign will find players creeping through jungles with Kapukan partisans as they wage guerilla warfare against the Zhenian Army, shying away from the common island hopping trope typical of this genre. Whereas the Salian point of view will have players embroiled in the full fury and gore of mechanized warfare as they aid in the liberation of the Myrish peoples. The mission statement of this entire campaign is to subscribe to a gritty and gore filled depiction of the war. The morally "gray" area of the war for all three parties presented in the campaign. The Florencian Republics were the objective "good guys" during this conflict, yet the inherent immorality of war brought out both the best and worst of it's marines. The Achysians waged a blatant war of imperial aggression, the "bad guys", yet the paratrooper you play as is an honorable man fighting for his country and wrought with emotional demons as his country descends further into darkness. And of course the Salians at first are the plucky underdogs with funny accents sailing out free the Myrish with Florencian tanks and guns, yet the mass casualties sustained at the landing beaches will weigh heavily on their psyche.

Detractors of the last game criticized it for a lack of vehicle variety, something that was established as a precedent in the first two games. Of course given the time frame of the Revolutionary Era, the only form of mobility was horses. Different classes of cavalry was something unique that players had never gotten to experience in other games, as was the fan favorite tachanka horse carriage with a mounted machine gun. Now players will be hanging up their spurs and saddles and be given a chance to try out the various personal carriers, tanks, and aircraft present in the latter half the Second World War. The first two entries of Blood and Honor saw modern tanks and personal carriers duking it out in a hypothetical Veharian War during the present day. Vehicles for all factions were virtually the same with only cosmetic differences, mirroring the general state of modern tank development. Yet Bathed in Flames will feature multiple classes of tanks for all factions that will perform more closely to real life. This means players will have to take a more strategic approach to vehicle combat, weighing the pros and cons of their own armored behemoth and capitalizing on an enemy tank's weak points. The same could be said of air combat, with slow moving multiple turreted bombers making an appearance.

A new variety in weapons is a definite guarantee as well, submachine gun and automatic rifle galore for those who disliked the slower and more methodical gunplay of Scarlet Days. A full arsenal of Florencian, Zhenian, Achysian, and other minor power weapons all at the players' disposal.

Like all ZeroUltra games the graphics present in Blood and Honor III are top of the line. Scarlet Days led the charge for stretching the visual capacity of the last generation of consoles to their utmost limit. Screenshots from Bathed in Flames on Saber Co-op's new ObsidianX reveals a breathtaking and stunning environment of rose tinted sandy beaches, burning cities choked with smoke, and windswept wintery landscapes for 140 players to simultaneously enjoy in the multiplayer. And all this on an upgraded version of the HeatWave engine that the developers have promised will deliver even more destructive carnage for players to create.

Asteria—Florencia's Number Two Growing City
shutterstock_255799291.jpg

24/08/1610 6:00| Saint Vera Federal District, Florencian Republics
RepublicanTimes

I spent a week visiting one of Florencia's fastest growing cities and the traditional gateway city for new citizens, Asteria. The capital city of the Berashokan Republic is on the "up and up". For the last six years the city has seen an average of 8% growth in population, only out-shinned by Etzino in the Free State of Ponka. Asteria has always been an attractive city for both people and industry. The city and the republic itself boasts one of the largest ethnically Abayadi populations outside of Abayad itself. This pattern of migration dating back long before Asraf Hamal made Abayad into the progressive and modern republic it is today. And of course we cannot forget that the great "Bear of Florencia", Hæzam Sadee' once called Asteria his home. But of course there is more to Berashoka. The cosmopolitan republic is a keynote representative of revolutionary values with no real majority ethnic group. Natives, Shinjinese, Elyrian Florencians, and most recently the Oriya who fled persecution after the Zara Revolution in Adwa all claim a stake. A hodge-podge of ethnic groups, religions, and cultures all united under the ideals of liberty and progression. A harmonious fraternal brotherhood of peoples only possible in a progressive civilization like the Florencin Republics, or even the Onaway Commonwealth and Abayadi Republic. And while this unique breaking of cultural barriers and race is reason enough to move to Asteria there are also plenty of other attractive reasons.

Asteria is Seeing a Boon in New Businesses

As the large state owned tech enterprises continue to expand in the Shinjin Federative Republic, independent minded entrepreneurs have began to relocated to to Berashoka to make it big on their own. I talked to Hu Dae-Ho age 34 who currently commands a respectable start up of seven employees. A former resident of Shinyang and cyber systems officer in the Strategic Weapons Command, Dae-Ho decided to make the move to Asteria in order to flee both the large urban setting and commanding presence of state companies like Værin Tech. "Some entertainment tech co-ops like Saber already have a footprint in Asteria, so there is a growing interest in the city. And I never liked being told what to do during my ten years of service, and didn't want the state to continue telling me what to do." Indeed the latest revolution in gaming has been spearheaded from cooperatives like Saber that are Asteria based. Dae-Ho stated that the presence of these entertainment co-ops can allow his software start up to get a foot in the door and help pay the bills until his small scale business can focus on poaching contracts away or doing outsourced work for state run enterprises like Værin.

Besides the growth of new information based start ups, the city is also seeing a large development in both microbreweries and dispensaries. The Republic of Berashoka has traditionally more adverse to both beer and ganja. Partially due to the more conservative aspect of it's Abayadi population (and their preference for wine) but also given the majority of citizens lived in rural townships. But as cities such as Asteria have seen a boom in population and infrastructure for the past two decades, so does the industry tailored to keep the citizens happy and in a relaxed state of mind. Both microbrewery and ganja based small scale businesses or co-ops have tripled in number since 1590.

And lastly Asteria has also recently become home to the 13th Regimental Combat Team of the All-Union Marine Corps. An all new command formed from either newly raised or re-flagged units, the 13th Marines is product of Chancellor Adeler's much talked about military expansion. This move brought 5,000 marines and their families to the close by Camp Walla Waptu. There are also rumors abound that Many River Air Defense Base, an hour drive from Asteria, could see the location of a squadron of P-57 Razorbacks: the newest and most modern stealth fighters in the Union arsenal. With a new productive drive to close the stealth gap with Zhenia and Many River Base's strategic location on the coast provides the Zhaska High Command with a prime location for these pursuit planes. Of course that's hearsay, but Asteria and Berashoka would welcome the influx of new airmen regardless.

Asteria is a Small City that's Big

Despite only being a city of around 250,000, with nearby outlying townships and coastal outlets boasting that number up to 400,00, Asteria has a lively downtown. As already mentioned, beer and ganja consumption is on the rise which has led to an animated bar and club scene. I must admit that during my stay my fellow journalists dragged me out almost night after night to experience the downtown. The cosmopolitan nature of the city has created a unique blend of cuisine, spirits, and music that can seem either daunting or alluring. Elyrian Florencians on the East Coast will be in for a shock when dinning on Abayadi-Florencian hybrid food loaded with spices. Of course you can put out the fire in your mouth with a locally brewed cool beverage. Weekends in Asteria will see the downtown turned into a marketplace for you to haggle with vendors over price. And then by the time the sun goes down the streets are awash with amateur music and animated conversations.

There is no shortage of fun things to do in or around Asteria. If your not particularly inclined to a night at the bars with live music then no worries. As mentioned their is a unique pallet of cuisine that can only be dined on in Asteria. You'll want to go to most every restaurant again to try something new and exotic. Or you could spend a day at the port, watch the baby seals as they sunbathe on the rocks, or go crabbing. If your allergic to shellfish the city is marked by plenty of cultural sites, ranging from the Sadee's old house to a former imperial estate turned citizens' art museum. Your sure to find classical art pieces commissioned far before the fall of the Old Regime, or newer and funkier Situationalist escapism. And the natural wilderness of Florencia is open to you and on full display at the beaches or the nearby Yaekem Republic Forest.

All of this is jammed into a small city where the roads have yet to be fully clogged by autocarriages or public transit. Like many large and medium sized urban centers Asteria has led the charge for being a bike friendly city since the turn of the century. You'll not go ten seconds without seeing a bicycle on the road and the greenbelts are tailored to reach a positive equilibrium for the pedestrians and cyclists. Furthermore quite a few of the patrons you'll meet at the bars and clubs are mountain bike junkies that will attempt to show you video footage of them tearing it up on the trails outside the city. One of these avid mountain bikers, Petarn Hadar expressed to me that "this city is so great that I can leave my apartment downtown and in thirty mountains I'll be riding up that mountain over there", of course he was pointing his pitcher of RevBev Light at a local foot ball team flag hung up inside the bar, but I understood the point.

Boise-Fall-8-Greenbelt.jpg

Asteria is a Gateway City

The most recent influx in people who call Asteria home comes not from internal migration from the big cities on the Shinjinese Coast (though that's certainly a contributing factor) but rather Azora. The Berashokan capitol has been designated a "Gateway City" by the All-Union Freemen's Agency, which overseas immigration and citizenship. The reasons for this are everything above. Asteria and the Republic are cosmopolitan and have a history of migration. Asteria itself is a growing, yet relatively small city that allows for an easier integration period. And skilled new laborers will not have to wait long for the city's unions or workers' agency to find them a job.

Since 1602 over 5,000 Azorans have settled in the city. The majority of them coming from both Ichoria and Achysia, which as we know are ruled by a clique of wealthy capital holders and high aristocrac, respectively. The fault in a regressive system of government where the people are punished under a state ruled by the reactionary classes should need no explanation here. We Florencians know better of course. Regardless I talked to Evaron Bruzhil, a recent immigrant from Azhara, Ichoria. "Do not get me mistaken. I love my country. But there are few chances there." He went onto say that this lack of upwards mobility and a compassionate commonwealth of toil like in Florencia leads to "Glum people. There are few smiles from where I come from. Everyone is obsessed with money, very little time to stop and think about the people you care for and enjoy life." Bruzhil made the move to Asteria five years ago, and three years ago the Berashokan Freemen's Agency and his local VBK Chapter sponsored the immigration of his three kids and husband. Bruzhil also happily stated that, "The people here are very accepting. Back in the home country I was called many different things and got ruffed up a couple times by ruffians for being a Fundamentalist. Here of course there has been none of that." Before his immigration to Berashoka Mr. Bruzhil had converted to Vayonist Fundamentalism after interactions with a Florencian based missionary who was studying abroad in Azhara. "I noticed that man had such a swagger of step and compassion of heart. He had an enjoyable presence and I came to realize it was through his belief in the Great Prophet Tortellos and because he was a Florencian."

Bruzhil's 19 year old daughter has recently been accepted into the prestigious Khonestazh Naval Academy, something that he said would have been unthinkable back in Ichoria. His younger sons are still in schooling and "are treated no different for their accents or birth". His story of living in Asteria is a similar experience to that of most other Ichorian and Achysian immigrants. Freed from the bondage of their class and the dull, over-bearing nature of their governments the people have at their liberty the full services and delights Asteria has to share. "There is so much happiness and independence here. When I first moved and saw that the post office was covered in graffiti and various weird pictures, I thought there was a crime problem." He'd give a hearty laugh, "I was wrong. I couldn't believe what I was hearing when I was told the government allows, and even encourages people to paint on government buildings. Whatever they want too!" Of course he speaks of the Situationalist initiatives that have seen to certain public buildings be painted completely white then opened up for the free creative expression of the citizenry. He expressed that his two favorite things to do are to pick up his kids from school in his autocarriage (which he couldn't afford to own in Ichoria) and to gaze at the new murals and "freaky looking art" that are constantly evolving and changing at the post office.

PNU Announces Break with IRP After Dib Chosen for Chancellor Candidacy
Velvykhattab.jpg

A break in the current government coalition spells trouble for the IRP in the coming fall elections.

27/08/1610 3:48 am | Toli Abayad, Abayad
Lial Sharif for the Aljira Times

Party for National Understanding leader Mia Sharif announced today that her party will not be joining the Institutional Revolutionary Party’s coalition after forthcoming fall elections in response to official confirmation that Aman Dib received the ruling party’s nomination to run for Chancellor.

For weeks, rumors had abounded that Dib would be the IRP’s choice for Chancellor, despite his controversial past as a hard-line labor leader opposing loosening immigration restrictions on foreign nationals. Dib made a name for himself by representing blue collar workers in Abayad’s fossil fuel sector, which was privatized from state management in the 1570s. Dib was a strong advocate for retention of the benefits enjoyed by workers from the time of state management, and consequently became a popular figure among working-class Abayadis.

Dib is controversial among many for what have been described as past anti-immigration stances, believing that permitting foreign workers into the country would hurt the workers that he represented. He also opposed granting Abayadi Overseas National Status (AONS) to former Dhamilese refugees who lived in the country to escape genocide, but who returned home after the end of the military regime there. Sharif said, “Mr. Dib has shown a clear disregard for humanitarian values in his tenure, as a non-elected figure, influencing the minds of Abayad’s laborers to do the same.”

375px-Hamdeen-Sabahi-.jpg

To many, Dib's nomination represents a return to more classic values and policy pursued by the IRP.

A lawyer by occupation, Dib graduated from the Peshil Mahrat Haryun Law School in Zil-Haryun specializing in labor law, has been involved in the selection of Merchant’s Chamber deputy candidates on several occasions, but otherwise has no political experience. Responding to the PNU declaration, Dib responded, “It is true that I have no experience in political office. However, in my time fighting for Abayad’s working people, I have met many of them and heard their concerns, their fears. To describe the lobbying and work I have undertaken to fight for them as a lack of humanitarian values shows a serious misunderstanding on the Chairwoman’s part of who I am and what I stand for, one I hope she can correct soon.”

With the PNU formally announcing its exit, what has already been predicted to be a tight election will likely be even closer; the last four years of IRP government under Prime Minister Layla Qadir have provided stability and strong government, but many are interested to see if she will be able to command an outright majority, or if she will have to seek a coalition government once more. Potential coalition partners to replace the PNU include the Abayadi Social Republican Party, typically considered too radical for coalition-forming, outliers on the political scene.

Not surprising, the PNU has been losing their importance for decades. Nothing more than a desperate reach for relevancy.

The Million Age for Electric Vehicles: A field of Surimae and Jinmu E, followed by Also-Rans
56b8bbcedd0895e62d8b4760

With the massive surge in electric vehicle sales nationwide, the divide between market leaders and existing manufacturers grow as the latter struggle to enter the electric vehicle market.

27/08/2020 16:37 | Daedo, Zhenia
Minseon Cho for the Zhenian Economist

A stark divide between industry leaders and followers has become clear in many Zhenian industries, and the rising electric vehicle industry turns out it is certainly not an exception.

According to a report from the Ministry of Territories and Transport, a total of 11 million sales of new light vehicles were made within Zhenia, around 2.5% higher than the same figure in 1609. Among the 11 million sales figure, around a million - almost 9 percent of total light vehicle sales in the same period - were electric vehicles, making a record high for electric vehicle sales in Zhenia as well. There have been, however, significant disparities between industry leaders and followers: of the million electric vehicles sold, around 55% and 38% were from Surimae and Jinmu E respectively, with following manufacturers altogether accounting for the remaining 7% of electric vehicle sales.

The dominance of Surimae and Jinmu E in the electric vehicle market can be partly explained by their head start. Surimae, having been established in 1600 AC, was the first Zhenian automotive manufacturer to specialize exclusively in electric vehicles, and thus has invested heavily in electric vehicles and supporting infrastructure. Tapping into what became the fastest-growing automobile segment since the late 1600s, it rapidly gained market dominance by sequentially filling the market spectrum with dedicated electric vehicle platforms, starting from its famed S6 sports sedan. Given its investment in electric vehicle technology, it has also been an industrial leader in implementing innovative designs that have become the norm of the segment as a whole. Using innovative battery systems that altogether extended the vehicles' range well beyond those of "competitor manufacturers", Surimae was able to consolidate itself as one of the largest EV manufacturers in the world.

Jinmu E was in a somewhat different circumstance - having lost the lead on hybrid vehicles near the turn of the century, the relatively early launch of the Jinmu E brand was an urgent yet strategic measure by the Jinmu Group to gain an edge in growing segments within the automotive industry. Although it initially focused on larger commercial vehicles and hydrogen-powered vehicles to make inroads into the market, it expanded into the electric light vehicle market with the introduction of the full-size electric SUV GE80, using its premium edge acquired by the Jinmu G to consolidate upon the higher end of the automotive spectrum. This rapid consolidation was fueled by the relative reluctance of other manufacturers to rapidly introduce electric vehicles into the market.

But that lead may not be lasting too long, both for Surimae and Jinmu E - several automotive manufacturers, both domestic and foreign, have announced plans to release entire lines of electric vehicles across the market, following the trend that has now been restructured towards electric vehicles. The Raon Motor Company, the nation's second-largest automobile manufacturer by number of cars built, has announced ambitious plans to expand the market power of the Onyx, its electric vehicle brand, which has just opened its showroom in Daedo last month. Their leading model, the Onyx O30, is a sports sedan with a range of almost 480 kilometers in full battery and can do 0-100km/h in just around 3.5 seconds. It has aggressively vouched itself as a direct competitor to Surimae, offering most of its models well within the price and performance range of Surimae models. It has also announced the beginning of sales for the Onyx ON35, a mid-size premium SUV with a price tag starting at 86,000 ZKW.

"The surge of Onyx sales for the past two months clearly show market potential of the Onyx brand against EV giants in the market," said Lee Jintae, current CEO of Onyx and former Chief Engineer in the Raon Motor Company. "Like the Surimae, we've bet heavily on technology and convenience, striking the tiger right inside its cave. In developing the Onyx, we have collaborated with several companies to construct Onyx cars as a component in the connected environment we'd all be in, helping in the modern redefinition of the automobile."

Amid the aggressive growth of the electric companies, many existing manufacturers have been following suit as well. Other major manufacturers in the nation, including Hanshin Motors and Muhan AG, have also announced plans to introduce electric vehicle models later this year: Hanshin Motors is set to introduce an electric replacement to its hybrid-powered Flash model lineup, while Muhan AG will commence sales of its new fully-electric flagship model, the DM9, this upcoming Monday, with a price tag starting at 98,000 ZKW. Some have attempted to evade direct competition with EV giants ruling the market - most notably, Jian Motor Group, formerly the nation's largest car manufacturer, has announced its primary focus on improving existing hybrid-electric vehicles within its catalog and instead opting towards hydrogen-powered vehicles, having released the Urae, a line of hydrogen-powered cargo trucks. For the time being, it has announced its intentions to enter the EV market through its existing line of EV pickup trucks, a niche market that had been eschewed in the Zhenian auto industry previously.

Well, there's a good reason Surimae and Jinmu E are leaders of the industry - because they're objectively better than conventional manufacturers. Surimae for the way.

C'mon, we all know electric vehicles are the way forward, and once existing manufacturers really shift their stuff into the industry, they'd be catching up in no time. What the state needs to do is to effectively catch up to the trend through building more power stations that will replace the traditional gas station by the road. Now that would make EVs mainstream.

Personally always thought hydrogen vehicles were the way forward, like the end of the article suggests. Also a good reason why Jian invests on both EVs and hydrogen vehicles, unlike Surimae. Wonder what the future entails for Zhenia's auto industry...

A combined task force from the Republics' CommSec and All-Union GDI stopped a terror attack in the making

Ozyns (internal special purpose troops) of the Massazhu Republican CommSec entered into a gunfight with a terror cell that ended in two reactionaries dead and three arrests in rural Red Hill, Massazhu, Federative Republic of Decatur. No internal security personal were killed, though one is currently receiving medical treatment for a non life-threatening bullet wound. The identities of the louses has not and will not be released to the public in accordance with the Public Security Act of 1594, which authorizes law enforcement to withhold the identities of certain counter-revolutionaries to the public in order to prevent the rise of notoriety and encourage similar acts. Though it was revealed one of them was a recent immigrant from Salia.

All-Union agents for the General Directorate for Investigation (GDI) became aware of a serious threat to both public safety and the security of the revolution in late Heatidor after a suspicious package was intercepted by the Union Postal and Packages Service. Republican police were alerted and investigated that the recipient of this package had an outstanding warrant of arrest for draft dodging. The GDI was notified and further investigation and surveillance of the suspect produced a credible threat of imminent attack on the Massazhu government.

Commission for State Security Ozyns from Burke were brought in along with a federal counter-reactionary team of the GDI to conduct an anti-terror operation. Assistance and resources were provided by local and republican police elements. As security personal and law enforcement entered the two story house on the outskirts of Red Hill, they were fired on by terrorists armed with several handguns and a fully automatic unregistered Koshtelanev rifle. One CommSec soldier was wounded and two reactionaries shot dead. The other three terrorists surrendered after the deaths of their fellow cretins and were taking into custody, though not after one received a serious life threatening injury.

The Massazhu Republican government in conjunction with Decatur federal authorities released a statement covering the details of the terrorists. They are a self proclaimed adherents to the True Democratic movement, a barbarous and backwards counter-revolutionary ideology that seeks to revert the march of history. Self organized the terrorists referred to themselves as the Decatur Light Foot and expressed admiration for the tyrannical international capital system of governments forced upon the peoples of Zhenia, Ichoria, and even Achysia. Bomb making materials and several other firearms not registered with the Massazhu Republic were uncovered at the home. GDI agents are pursuing possible evidence and further leads that might connect the Decatur Light Foot to foreign nationals that theoretically could be financially supporting or backing them.

The Freedom Alternative Party, currently the largest reactionary party (and one of the smallest recognized parties) was quick to condemn the actions of the terrorists and their idea of mounting an armed insurrection against the federal government. Given the background of the Freedom Alternative Party and it being a bastion for the dregs of society, it is expected the GDI is investigating links between the reactionaries and the party.

This is the second occasion this year that human enervates have plotted an attack and been caught before the act in Florencia. A showcase into the dangerous reactionary creep of racial supremacy, class unconsciousness, and emasculation that afflicts certain individuals. It is likely the three terrorists will get a swift exercise of a Revolutionary Tribunal and receive either the maximum ten year sentence or face the firing squad.

Syndic of Foreign Affairs Delivers Response Over Recent Anti-Terrorist Actions in Florencia

Syndic of Foreign Affairs, Johanna Smythe

30/08/1610 1:06pm | Edurre, Edury
Karl Bosch of the Edurre Foreign Sundays Times

Syndic of Foreign Affairs, Johanna Smythe, has publicly published a response to recent internal actions taken by the Florencian General Directorate of Investigations.

Dear Ambassador, the letter begins, while I congratulate the General Directorate of Investigations for apprehending the terrorists, the Office of Foreign Affairs has serious reservations on your nation’s due-process. The letter, which has drawn several serious critiques from all sides of every aisle, can be found in full on the Edurre Foreign Times website.
The letter was released earlier today, after it had been delivered to the Embassy.

This action has gotten attention from virtually every party in the Chamber of Consuls, with only a handful happy with the action. Some, like Consul Aakmens of the Mutualist Party, say that the letter is too interventionist for a nation like Edury. “It doesn’t make sense why the Syndic would write and then publicly publish a letter about an internal affair within another nation. It’ll only serve to annoy whichever foreign affairs bureaucrat which has to read it, and then it’ll only anger the Florencian people against us. What she says is right, of course, but it doesn’t necessarily need saying from us, right at this juncture.”Others, like Consul Smid of the Social Republican Party, say it goes too far. ”It’s absurd, she ‘congratulates’ them for apprehending the reactionaries, but then demands that they’re dealt with in a manner suitable to her and others who think like her. She should know enough to let them deal with regressive anti-progress reactionaries in their own way.”

Others, like Consul Eik, say that it doesn’t go far enough. ”It doesn’t make any sense, why a member of our government, a Syndic at that, would go so easy on these people. She congratulates them on apprehending ‘terrorists’, who were taken by a government known to hold our way of life in contempt, and then politely asks the Ambassador to tell everyone that ‘yes, everything will be fine.’ She should be demanding these people to open the affairs to multiple observers, so that others can make sure these people aren’t turning inwards on the opposition before they come for all of us.”

Syndic Smythe, an accomplished statesperson and agent of foreign affairs, had this to say when asked about the letter, and the criticism on it and the way it was delivered; ”If it is found that there are worries about what a large, powerful nation is doing, it is the Foreign Affairs Syndic’s duty to raise those worries. I am sure that the Ambassador and my counterparts want Edurans to live in a healthy democratic republic as much as we all want Florencians to have the same healthy republic.”

The Office of the Lord Magistrate could not be reached for comment at this juncture.

Eduran Government Criticizes Revolutionary Justice, and Almost No One Cares
world-us-canada-41854482.jpg

Though of course the technological inept Chancellor Adeler had to have his wife send out a Wuphf from his account

30/08/1610 8:00| Saint Vera Federal District, Florencian Republics
RepublicanTimes

Apparently the way Florencia deals with terrorists is being called into question by the international community, specifically the Grand Commonwealth of Edury. A joint GDI and CommSec anti-terror operation that lasted over two months in Dekatur's Massazhu Republic climaxed with the death of two reactionaries and the arrests of three. One CommSec ozyns received non life-threatening injuries. They'll be brought before a jury of their peers at a Revolutionary Tribunal where in a week they will be tried for several crimes, namely attempted homicide, conspiracy to commit terrorism, and ownership of unregistered firearms.

Apparently this minor and successful flash point in Union law and security has galvanized the Eduran foreign affairs service. A letter was delivered to Ambassador Ran Hyo-Rin by the Eduran Syndic of Foreign Affairs. It expressed alarm at the insistence of the GDI for not publicly releasing the identities of the five counter-revolutionaries. Descriptions of all suspects were available to news outlets. All five were Florencian nationals. Four men and one woman in their mid twenties. One of the men was a Salian immigrant, the other four all ethnic Elyrian natives of the Massazhu Republic. Several news outlets singled out the counter-revolutionary of Salian background, as it is more noteworthy. The Eduran government singled out the independent reporting done by private media as the government encouraging unrest and prejudice towards the Azorans. A preposterous notion given Florencia's multi-ethnic background and long founded progressive ideals. Not to mention Chancellor Adeler's recent open door policy towards immigration. Lastly of course most constituent republics are ethnically and linguistically Elyrian dominant.

Furthermore the letter accused the Florencian government of utilizing the GDI to apply pressure on the Freedom Alternative Party, one of the few reactionary parties with a following. If this is true, nonetheless it still wouldn't matter. The constitution empowers the Department of Justice to actively prosecute counter-revolutionary elements that go against the spirit of progress. The Freedom Alternative Party has already been banned in the Federative Republic of Trans-Owhyee after it's supreme council passed a decree declaring the party as reactionary. There are similar bills or decrees awaiting legislation/approval in other republics. It is wholly constitutional to ban the Alternative Party, since they are avowedly international big moneyists and reject the concept of revolutionary classes and freedom from want. It must be stressed that members of that party will not have any of their rights abridged or usurped if the party is banned, they just have to run their candidates as independents.

Now while the Eduran diplomatic letter was met with mixed results in the Grand Commonwealth, here in Florencia it has largely been met with amusement. Social media platforms like Wuphf were bombarded with memes and comments poking fun at the letter. Opinions ranged from laughter at a very small regressive republic like Edury imploring for Florencia to change it's ideals, to conspiracy theorists linking the terrorists with the Eduran government. Quite a few young congressional representatives posted "Nobody, literally no one, not a single soul" memes regarding Edury. Virtually none on social media or the federal government took the letter seriously.

There has been no official public response from the Department of Foreign Affairs. A short response was sent to the Eduran Foreign Affairs Syndic and promptly leaked to the press. In it's entirety the letter from Ambassador Ran Hyo-Rin read, "This is an internal affair of the All-Union, Dekatur, and Massazhun governments. Your government should not concern itself with the administration of revolutionary justice within a progressive republic." A short curt message befitting of a situation where parliamentarians who glutton themselves off of the citizenry's coffers try to meddle in revolutionary affairs they can't and choose not to understand. Clearly the All-Union government is not bothering itself to entertain the self-righteous boondoggles bought out by the captains of industry that rule over Edury.

Chancellor Adeler himself took to Wuphf to lambaste the Eduran government for seeking to meddle in Florencian affairs. Or rather, had his wife wuphf out the message since the Chancellor has made numerous claims on multiple occasions that he doesn't care to remember his social media password and his wife handles that account.

Of course this curious criticism of the Florencian judicial system is no surprise. The republics have been at odds with the forces of reaction for over 130 years. The quiet complaints of a minor nation's foreign affairs office is of little note. The Motherland can have it's issues from time to time, but it is a more perfect union when compared to virtually any of the Azoran forms of government. For as long as the Grand Commonwealth continues to practice the bondage of the revolutionary classes, Florencia will pay their dictatorial government little attention. The terrorists will be tried fairly in a Revolutionary Tribunal and be punished to the full extent of the law.

WHY THE RED HILL REACTIONARIES ARE ONLY THE START

18/08/1610 10:31 | Serrapole, FR of Athicar, Florencian Republics
Enora Jareon

The Union of Florencian Republics is under siege. The progressive revolution is under siege. The forces of reaction are waging a covert war of aggression that has our sacred Motherland fighting on all fronts. At home and abroad the agents of international capitol plot their next steps to topple the bastion of revolution. We have known since the Hardliner Plot threatened our More Perfect Union that the reactionaries are capable of stretching their dark tendrils through the shadows to influence Florencia. Many would say that the foreign agents operating in our lands were swept away when Hæzam Sadee' and Alaex Kosyun righted us back onto the path of social republicanism. If the most recent events in the Republic of Massazhu and Edury are any indicator, the international clique of big moneyists are once again back up to their old schemes.

Here are the facts
Red Hill, Massazhu, Federative Republic of Dekatur. Five mentally regressive individuals were plotting a bombing or mass shooting of some kind on republican or All-Union authorities. The GDI and Dekatur CommSec stopped them. Two of the diseased persons were evacuated in the process. Three are now incarcerated and will be subject to revolutionary justice in due time. One of those who will soon face a citizenry's tribunal was a Salian national.

The Grand Commonwealth is protesting our application of justice and handling of terrorists. Apparently to the Azoran governments and their sick perverted explanations for progress, when terrorists fire on you with illegal firearms and plan to kill hundreds of innocent citizens with bombs, you shouldn't fire back. Moreover they publicly criticize our system and call us dictatorial. Any good revolutionary patriot understands the pure nonsense and hypocritical stream of detritus that exits the mouths of the liberal parliamentarians.

Elite Achysian and Myrish soldiers are drilling inside Andemyr. These are soldiers whose expertise is in amphibious assault operations that involve seizing and holding land for heavier follow on forces. Conversely it is also in a climate that mirrors our own Upper North.

As we can see from these three instances, the international clique of capital and in particular the Azoran Community is beginning to mobilize three different forces from four different countries to combat the revolution. Firstly we have the covert infiltration of the Motherland by Salian agents aiming to destabilize. Do not let the special relationship Florencia enjoyed with Salia in the past fool you. The citizenry of Salia are kept in wage chains and have the boot of regressive republican tyranny pressed against their neck. The captains of industry that behind the scenes pull the strings of the government long ago stabbed Florencia in the back by joining themselves to the slavocrats that inhabit Achysia.

Secondly we have the Edury diplomatic corps seeking to demoralize our country and demonize us to friendly peoples belonging to the greater society of civilized nations. Chiefly this being Abayad, Onaway, and Kilalurak. It should need no explanation here that the Eduran people have grown dull and dimwitted after hundreds of years of living under a monarchy in all but name.

And lastly we can observe active measures being undertaken by the Achysian military industrial complex in Andemyr. The Myrish people long ago sold out their culture and economy to the Achysian autocrats. The hedonistic serpent of Achysia continues to dawn itself in riches while the citizens of that country wallow in poverty.

This should be of no surprise to any. Since the founding figures made our republics free from want the captains of industry and imperial overlords abroad have sought to extinguish the guiding light of revolution. These robber barons and gluttonous aristocrats realize the ideals of life, liberty, and property for all is a dangerous tool for the revolutionary classes they keep in bondage. Since day one social republicanism has been under attack and the events that unfolded at Red Hill is by no means a first.

What Can Florencia Do?
The Florencian Republics must let out to sea and meet head on the forces of reaction wherever they may be. In Azora and in Tarsic stand the great trolls of big moneyism and empire. Chancellor Adeler's administration has promised to close the stealth gap. And as Red Hill has shown us the swords and shield of progressive revolution, the GDI and CommSec, are actively battling foreign agents seeking to usurp our ideals. But there is more to be done. Florencia must strengthen her ties with like minded civilized nations. And we must focus inward and further ween ourselves off of diplomatic and economic interaction with counter-revolutionary governments. We only lengthen the road to the inevitable march of history by continuing to pay lip service to slavocrats. And we must undertake like-minded measures to counteract these slavers. Fraternal and like minded organizations abroad ought see our full support. A nation can right itself on the path towards social revolution and enlightenment if the citizenry unite in a spontaneous demonstration of national self-determination. The Florencian Republics ought focus much of it's attention towards fostering the growth of free spirited and liberty loving organizations so that they may take back the reigns of government and means of production.

What Can You Do?
Remain vigilant. Remain steadfast and maintain your patriotic revolutionary vigor. The counter-revolutionary international clique is always developing new methods to cow or subvert a population. Last year we became aware that in Salia the government was putting chemicals in the water that emasculated the populace after it turned the frogs gay. It is the responsibility and providence ordained right that every revolutionary patriot ought own a firearm. That is most obvious one way you can protect and defend yourself, especially from foreign invaders and, may The One forbid, a direct usurpation and hostile take over of the All-Union government by the forces of reaction. And of course doing your other patriotic duties such as voting and taking to the streets to make your voice heard. The citizenry are the vanguard of progressive revolution after all. And it is my firm belief that as the years unfold Florencia and the rest of the civilized nations shall lead the globe towards a more better future. But before that, we must pay attention to the events like Red Hill and remain cautious.

Looming Doctors' Strike Threatens to Worsen Conditions in Adwan Legislative Capital

Disputes over delayed payment for mandatory work in disadvantaged communities threatens to plunge Bedin to new depth.

09/01/1610 11:00 pm | Bedin, Adwa.
Behre Tamru for the Kedala Herald

Resident doctors in Adwa’s legislative capital, Bedin, will begin an “indefinite” strike on Thursday morning over non-payment for their overtime work in the city’s clinics for the past four months.

The Adwan Medical Association said that authorities had failed to fulfil pledges to pay its members working in inner city clinics, treatment centers, and hospitals as part of a program endorsed by the Empress that provides “mandatory employment” and treats the doctors as a “public good.”

It said the strike comes after the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum it had given the authorities. The association’s leaders, in a statement, said that they also wanted the government to address non-payment of promotion arrears since mid-1606, non-remittance of deductions including pensions, and non-payment of certain allowances.

The authorities in the Adwan legislative capital have not yet commented on the strike. However, doctors have vowed to not go back to work until their demands are met. As one of Adwa’s largest and densest cities, Bedin has faced numerous outbreaks of disease including tuberculosis, measles, and syphilis in the last half-century.

It is believed as many as 15 out of every 100,000 residents of the city are infected with syphilis alone, making it the worst in the country. Other key hotspots generally cluster around the southeastern coast, in cities such as Tefasi, Bona, and Goliad. Five of Bedin’s major general hospitals are currently scrambling to set limited hours and delay scheduled surgeries if the two sides cannot come to an agreement, local sources reported.

Heilu Amare: Adwa's Finance Minister and Titan of the Web
iu

Adwa's up and coming finance minsiter has acquired quite the online following thanks to his infrequent antics

03/09/2018 10:00 am | Bedin, Adwa
Yideg Tamru for the BedinTimes

A far cry from the cliche of a gray-suited man of numbers and figure, Adwa’s financial minister Heilu Amare, ceremoniously referred to as the Imperial Vaultkeeper, appears to relish stirring up trouble on social media both at home and abroad.

His most recent posts to his more than 980,000 followers criticizing the neighboring nation of The Vatuvu earned the wrath of many in that country, and a chastisement from his own Popular Tribune, Menele Yared. However, the well-respected economist is affectionately known as “Uncle Amare” for his domestic concerns and popular public image.

“Cooking for one”
While the 37-year-old posts about a number of issues, his posts on what is making for dinner are often what gets the biggest response from ordinary Adwans. To the enjoyment of many, it can be said that his skills in the kitchen are not equivalent to his skills with spreadsheets and financial reports.

His dishes are simple and hearty, and he can often be seen seasoning them with heaping amounts of chillies and garlic. Both are common in Adwan cuisine, but even those with more robust palates may be shocked by his sanal-may-care attitude toward seasoning his plates. One of his more famous posts shows him with beads of sweat running down his face from the kick of a newly discovered concoction with chillies.

1599157766313.png
He may be a serious member of Her Imperial Majesty’s government, but he is not afraid to be the butt of a joke. His cooking recently gained further attention over his roast chicken - not one of his finer moments, even by his own admission.

1599157801421.png
Adwans took the opportunity to gently chide their Imperial Vaultkeeper over the culinary disaster, including a post by alabu captain Nagasi Behlihu using the moment to show his own skills in the kitchen.

1599157831974.png
Apart from posting his dinners, he also writes about his frustrations at the state of the economy and world events, but his candidness has sometimes put him at odds with other officials.

“Cease this Nonsense”
Apart from posting his "meal-for-one" dinners, he does also write about his frustrations at the state of the economy and world events, but his candidness has sometimes put him at loggerheads with other officials. In the latest episode of Minister Amare’s “I-post-what-I-like” series, the financial minister ended up embroiling himself in Vatuvan affairs.

Last weekend, reacting to Great Advisor Mixili "Tavi" alè Vataluse pu firing of The Vatuvu’s Central Bank Minister, Haset Bullo, he wrote, “Leaders in Dihara must stop such nonsense of waking up in the morning and sacking a Central Bank Minister! You cannot do that! This is not some private fiefdom of yours? Your personal property? Absolutely not!”

He continued in a second post. “That Minister was a good sort of yellow. Why do we do these things as Diharans? The Great Advisor of The Vatuvu must give us the reasons why he dismissed the Minister - or else economic apocalypse is on its way. I will mobilize it myself!”

After backlash from the Great Advisor, Amare in typical outspokenness refused to back down. “It appears as though I am in trouble for my statement about the dismissal of the Bank of The Vatuvu Minister! I stand by my statement. Central Bank Independence is key, and non-negotiable! Let all central bankers speak out!”

The posts remain up currently. Adwa’s Popular Tribune Menele Yared reprimanded him over the posts and issued an apology to the government of The Vatuvu over what he described as “unfortunate remarks” and promised to ensure the incident did not happen again. He did not, however, elaborate on how this would be prevented. He also instructed Amare to “Cease this nonsense in embarrassing yourself and the Adwan people in front of the world.”

Amare isn’t necessarily combative, but unlike many of ministers of Her Imperial Majesty’s current government, he does not seem to mind going against the party line to say what he believes in, both on social media and in person.

“Not simply a keyboard warrior”
This attitude has won him the admiration of many Adwans, who see him as a man who does not simply sing for his supper. Amare is not simply a keyboard warrior, he was once one in real life. He was born to two parents on the run during Adwa’s post-revolutionary civil war that threatened to tear the nation apart. Both of his parents were pro-monarchy moderates who fought under Emperor Zara, who would later unite the nation under a single banner.

Under this backdrop, Amare quickly grew into a young radical within the centrist wing of the National Party, attending numerous rallies and being known for his outspoken opinions on financial reform during the late reign of Emperor Merhanu Zara.

He received a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science in Adwa followed by a master’s degree in developmental economics from studying in Ichoria. He is now one of the governing party’s longest serving members, and has occupied several influential positions over the years, elected and appointed. He served as the country’s Central Bank Minister in the first half of the 1580s and has been a fierce defender of its independence, publicly opposing a Prosperity Party policy that would bring the bank under direct state control, which may explain his views toward recent events in The Vatuvu.

Those on the left of the Prosperity Party are often suspicious of Amare’s more liberal economic approach, sometimes seen as being too friendly toward businesses or the nobility. He is never afraid to take on someone who disagrees with his part of government. Last year, he got into a public row with the Prosperity Party Shadow Popular Tribune Makhura Alzar over whether motorists should continue to pay road tolls in certain areas.

Alzar promised that his part would end the contentious payments, but Amare said on social media: “I don’t know why the middle classers in the so-called Prosperity Party want to complicate our lives. The working class do not pay these tolls, pay attention! They take the bus, if they have access at all. I thought the Prosperity Party claimed to represent these individuals’ interests?”

Alzar disagreed, and the two men engaged in an online argument that culminated in a phone call from Popular Tribune Menele Yared over their spat requesting they cease their “unprofessional behavior.”

Amare has even called for the abolishment of the controversial Imperial Monopoly on growing cannabis granted by Emperor Zara during his reign to select noble families, saying that it would provide a great deal more in tax revenue. He even posted a picture of a cannabis plant he’d claimed “sprouted up” on his property.

1599157894313.png
There’s a playful edge to much of what Amare posts, and he is often admired for the levity he brings into the political arena. But, as a senior official, hand-picked by the Popular Tribune to handle an important portfolio, some of his rants have been interpreted as being divisive and unhelpful. Nevertheless, being provoked in the past has not put the man off, and Adwans are set to continue multiple servings of Uncle Amare’s spicy rants.

GDI Leak — Definitive Proof of Achysian Support for Red Hill Reactionaries

1610-30-08: 8:00| Saint Vera Federal District, Florencian Republics
Kaen Daesung of Patriot!

For a month now ultranationalist and radical revolutionaries like Enora Jareon have pushed a conspiratorial narrative that the Red Hill Five are indeed apart of a greater plot supported either directly or indirectly by the Azoran Community. Most immediately this was dismissed by most sensible members within the All-Union government, though the GDI was performing it's due diligence in pursuing possible leads that do in fact link the Red Hill Gang to foreign actors. Recent condemnation from the reactionary Eduran government only inflamed tensions and sent conspiracy theorists and skeptics furthering their claims. Though there is some basis for these claims as one of the terrorists was at one point a Sallish citizen.

Though perhaps there is some truth to Miss Jareon's claims.

Patriot! has obtained a set of confidential documents directly from a source within the counter intelligence focused 2nd Main Office of the General Directorate for Investigation. These documents, presented as a follow up GDI investigation into the Red Hill Reactionaries found evidence linking several of the terrorists to the Achysian Authority for Security and Information. The ASI is a major tool in Achysia and their Azoran counterparts in battling the progressive revolution both abroad and suppressing the will of the citizenry at home. In the past Chancellors such as Hæzam Sadee' debated officially labeling the espionage network of Achysia as a foreign terrorist organization. The leak documented outlined that the GDI considers "the ASI as a likely benefactor of both ethno-supremist separatist groups and avowedly counter-revolutionary terror cells". This includes the Red Hill Gang of Five, who are now believed to have received the funding for and needed instruction from the ASI to produce the elaborate improvised pipe bombs uncovered in their hideout. The Dekatur CommSec along with the GDI have both released statements that at least one of the terrorists was cooperating with security authorities. It is quite likely that agents gleaned part of this information from the captured terrorist, though evidence at the hideout itself could point to foreign involvement.

The explosive material and terroristic bombs already produced by the Red Hill Five "points towards a sophistication and set of technical knowledge not prevalent in the detained suspects" so says the GDI internal document. Two out five of the terrorists served their required time in the Standing Republican Guards. As any good citizen over the age of 18 knows, one is not taught during their training on how to compile a bomb from materials available publicly.

The GDI leak has set off a firestorm on social media sites such as Yote. Various citizens expressed a skeptical viewpoint of the documents. However this leak has garnered the attention of the All-Union Congress. NazReb Party head and Chairman of the Assembly of Peoples, Nyak Sonne is already calling for a congressional hearing on possible Achysian connections to domestic terrorism within Florencia. Other groups ranging from the Saint Vera Situaionalist Chapter, Vayonist Fundementalist Faith, or RevPraxis are calling for mass demonstrations outside the Achysian embassy. The GDI has yet to officially make a statement on the leaks regarding ASI funding and supporting terrorism, though various sources throughout the agency have come forth anonymously to corroborate it.

Zhenia-STO FTA: The Summit for its fate is now on
The fate of a decades-old idea is now put to the test as a joint summit between Zhenia and all South Tarsis Organization members is set to begin on Monday in Bukit Singa.

20/09/1610 08:56 am | Bukit Singa, Ayeran
Kim Jungsoo of the Zhenia Shinbo

Premier Kim Junghun, alongside a combined total of 221 Zhenian representatives consisting primarily of the Premier's entourage, bureaucrats of associated government branches, business magnates and executives of Zhenia's largest corporations and economic interests, arrived in Bukit Singa this morning, as was indicated by his Twitter post (pictured below), with the purpose of representing the Republic of Zhenia in a summit between Zhenia and all South Tarsis Organization members, concerning the implementation of a free trade agreement and other secondary agreements between the nations.

Kim Junghun twitter cut.png

In his latest twitter post in 6:50 am local time, the Premier added, with the picture of the South Tarsis Organization headquarters his motorcade passed by, that he was there to “make history with the South Tarsis Organization and Zhenia as a whole”. Although there were other matters to discuss, it has been said the phrase of “making history” specifically highlights the matter of a future free trade agreement between Zhenia and the South Tarsis Organization collectively – a precarious matter that has been a political and economic hot potato in the region for decades.

As the two major axes of the global economy, the issue of the possibility of a free trade agreement between Zhenia and the South Tarsis Organization as a whole is as old as the organization itself. The origins of the issue date back to Kim Shimin’s Southern Doctrine announced in 1565, which detailed the importance of Zhenia’s efforts to maintain strong political and economic ties with South Tarsis and Dyria, designating the region as “the new frontier of the Zhenian spirit of harmony”. At the time, Kim Shimin further envisioned a new economic sphere centered around Zhenia and South Tarsis, possibly as a means to be the economic counterweight against the growing Azoran Community to the west. While most of the efforts were halted amid the November Revolution, the spirit of the doctrine itself rematerialized under Li Shan’s government after the November Revolution, when the nation’s first-ever free trade agreement with Katamur was signed on 1576, abolishing almost all tariffs between the two nations. The Fourth Republic has since been assertive in strengthening economic ties with nations that would become STO members, including Ayeran and Abayad in 1580 and 1582 respectively. It was around then that some Zhenian bureaucrats and economists began to propose a bilateral free trade agreement between Zhenia and the STO altogether – a trade agreement that would speak the creation of possibly the biggest commercial market in the world. Academic studies regarding its potential creation initiated in the late 1570s, with estimates that the size of trade would double within the first four years after its ratification and savings up to $5 billion in the next five years in scrapped or discounted customs duties. At the time, the idea itself had received generally positive feedback from most of the academia and populace alike.

The idea itself, however, as met with great resistance following Yinguo’s integration into the South Tarsis Organization in 1583. Since then, it has been met with great political opposition from the more conservative tracts of the nation’s politicians, with the idea being attacked as “a recipe that would offer Zhenia’s economic security and autonomy to Yinguo”. Further estimates of the idea bringing significant harm to the nation’s agricultural sector, as well as resource extraction and manufacturing, had also resulted in the accumulation of negative receptions of the idea. When the proposal had passed the Sangseowon in 1595, Chancellor Park Seunghwan vetoed the proposal from leaving the nation in the first place, citing it as “an idea that places the Republic’s economic security on a precarious position and vulnerable to the enemies of the Republic”. Intertwined with varied corporate interests of several different industries, the issue itself has become a hot potato for all tracts of Zhenian politics, with the issue being brought up on every general election either as an economic blessing or a death spell to some.

Circumstances, however, have changed over the years, especially after the election of Lee Saemin as Chancellor in 1607, who had vouched for the signing of the agreement as an economic stimulus package for Zhenia. In 1608, the Foreign Affairs and Trade Committee of the Parliament has agreed upon excluding rice as the primary commodity at hand in the agreement, following negotiation with the nation’s agricultural unions and cooperatives. Amid further negotiations with many of the nation’s industry leaders, a set of safeguard clauses, particularly concerning the trade of automobiles and livestock, have been agreed to be included in the proposal. A finalized proposal was completed in the Sangseowon the next year and was formally submitted to the South Tarsis Organization on September 3, 1610, with further plans to officially discuss it bilaterally in the summit in the next four days.

"This is a new step for Zhenia and the people of South Tarsis," Kim Junghun stated on a press conference in Daedo, prior to his departure for the summit. "Setting aside decades-old discord to the south, we will form the grounds towards permanent economic cooperation for the present and future. A walk towards free trade is what the Zhenian spirit entails, and such is our destiny."

As the Zhenia-STO summit is set to begin on Monday, Premier Kim Junghun has stated that he will be on a preliminary summit with the Ayerani High King Eskander Tereng at around 10 AM, followed by a round of evening receptions. The formal Zhenia-STO summit is said to last from Monday to Thursday in the South Tarsis Organization headquarters in Bukit Singa.

Rightist Reporter Gunned Down in Beuleu District

A journalist for the reactionary leaning Free Thinker new outlet was killed in an apparent gang related shooting Monday night

22/09/1610 11:00 pm | Shinyang, Shinjin Federative Republic, Florencian Republics
Hwa Daeshim for Friend of the People — Shinyang

Around 11:20 PM the Shinyang Police Department responded to 101 calls that had reported a shooting in the North side residential area of Beuleu District last night. The victim has been identified as Bidin Yepes — age 32 and resident of Beuleu and Shinyang for four years. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene as the result of penetrating wounds to the chest and what has been described as an exctutionary style gunshot wound to the back of the head.

Police have yet to uncover a motive nor announce any specific suspects.

Though a search through Mr. Yepes's apartment earlier this morning uncovered evidence that might point towards gang related activity. Law enforcement have been tight lipped but after police scoured through Yepes' belongings and personal records sources say that there is plausible proof that he had an outstanding debt to organized crime.

Bidin Yepes was an avowed critic of social republicanism and a major contributor to virtual columns on the rightist slanted Free Thinker, which is considered by many to be the unofficial news wing of the Freedom Alternative Party. In the past Mr. Yepes had been critical of the libertine attitudes prevalent within a progressive republic and expressed admiration for the supposed "true and democratic" governments and cultures of Azora. His writings and reporting reach slanderous levels when accusing security and law enforcement like ComSec or the GDI for fabricating evidence that indicted past reactionaries for counter-revolutionary crimes.

On several occasions Mr. Yepes had made an unsuccessful bid for a delegate seat within the Beuleu District Citizens' Council on a platform of deregulation and de-democratization of the private enterprises. It was no surprise to any Beuleu residents that he was repeatedly turned down by the majority of attendants at these council forums. Currently his neighborhood has delegated a bright young law student and declared independent to represent them to the district council.

This organized crime aspect of Mr. Yepes shooting comes at a bad time for the Freedom Alternative Party and their subsidiaries. In the past accusations of possible connections to both domestic or foreign crime syndicates financing the reactionary party have garnered some attention and increased scrutiny. It certainly wouldn't be out of character for party that disavows progressive revolution to be corrupt or maintain assets in the criminal underground. And to add further flames on the fire the plausible evidence linking the Red Hill Reactionaries to the Achysian spy apparatus only furthers far-left conspiracy theories that involve the Alternative Party.

Former erred members of the Shinjin chapter for the Freedom Alternative Party have expressed concerns that party leaders were receiving financial backing from organized crime syndicates. It's likely that if the shooting of Mr. Yepes was connected to a crime syndicate the GDI Organized Crime Unit will pursue all avenues of suspect. Given the close working relationship and cooperation of the Alternative Party to the Shinyang Free Thinker, this could prove partially damning for reactionaries in Northwestern Florencia.

Syndic of Transport's Bureau of Ships Releases Report on Zuivesting Sinking

The 3rd Wharf, where certain ferries depart from in Edurre, as well as a notable tourist walking destination

22/09/1610 12:00 pm | Edurre, Edury
Joseph Vissier for the Edurre Foreign Times

Ships Bureau Contable Arabella Bakker has published a report today on the sinking of the Zuivesting, the RoRo Cruiser-ferry that sank in the White Sea some months ago. Initial inspection has deemed that one primary cause of the sinking may have been faulty ballast pumps. These pumps are responsible for taking in and expelling sea water in order to properly balance the vessel, especially when it is holding uneven loads or during stormy conditions. If the pumps failed, as preliminary reports suggest they do, they may not have blocked out sea water from entering ballast tanks, and unbalancing the vessel during stormy conditions. However, the report says that failure of the pumps alone would not cause the ship to sink, and an ongoing investigation will need to commence, with the cooperation of the Azoran Community and it's constituent nations.◿

1610 NATIONAL ELECTIONS
EXIT POLLS: RAFERTY, FLs NARROWLY MAINTAIN GOVERNMENT

22 SCALDWANE 1610, Last updated 10:28 PM | Chawegan, United Commonwealth of Onaway
Siobahn O'Molloy, Lead Elections Correspondent for the Onawean Citizens' Post

-----

CHAWEGAN - A collective sigh of relief was surely made in the offices of the Farmer-Labor Party of Onaway this evening alongside the customary applause and celebratory mead, as 1608's dark horse candidate for Chancellor retained their seat in his first showing in a regular election, with exit polls taken this evening across the Commonwealth showing a picture of the outgoing government established during 1608's snap election remaining largely in place. "We're looking forward to continuing the good work we've been able to accomplish towards making our government work for the people as it was intended to," Chancellor Raferty (FL) commented after receiving the estimates, "I can't say I'm not surprised, but I'm confident that we've been given a mandate by the people to keep fighting the good fight for real, lasting reform in a way we didn't even two years ago."

It's clear that the significance of the results aren't lost on the Chancellor - this marks the second election (and the first regular election) in decades that a group other than the Social Republican Party or United Onaway was not the leader of His Majesty's Government. While down four seats from their 1608 apex of 77, Farmer-Labor remains the leading party in the Minority Government, alongside the Social Republicans and Progressives. Raferty has additionally voiced support for bringing in the Greens, Skanian Communities' Party, and the nascent Popular Sovereigntists into the governing coalition. The Opposition remains in the hands of United Onaway and the Liberals, with Opposition Leader Dorthea Mathiessen (UO) indicating that the first MD from the Homesteaders' Party, representing those seeking to develop and expand settlement in the far north, will sit in caucus with His Majesty's Loyal Opposition.

While the new government shows the Social Republicans reclaiming a seat, it is clear that their leadership remains somewhat rudderless compared to F-L and the Progressives, who indeed subtly campaigned on populist talking points counter to the SRPO, the bastion of the "establishment left" in Onawean politics. Slogans of "A Future for All Onaweans" and "Reopen the Factories, Repave the Roads" seem to capture the public imagination much more effectively than "Defending the Liberty of 1581".

The Onawean National Peoples' Party, representing the nation's social conservatives and longstanding non-inscrits in the Diet, lost a seat, with the border reformist Ogemaw Freedom Party reclaiming a single seat in the Diet after two years without parliamentary representation for the first time since its inception.
