Welcome to the workers paradise of Kamak! It is another glorious day in Ein, the capitol city of our great nation. It is a blustery 10 degrees outside, but don't worry. There are red jade obelisks spaced throughout the outside common areas providing heat, and with your state-issued cold weather gear, everyone will be able to enjoy the crisp outside air as they travel to and from their domiciles and work stations.

Today, there is a delegation from the neighboring nation of Yugash coming to meet with the city's Tripartite council, along with several members of the National Tripartite council. Among the delegates are members of Ein's local council, including Celebrant Mera and Luminor March, and Celebrant Ixias and Scholar Jorst from Kamaks National Council. Onboard the airship, along with the politicians from Yugash, is one of the Champions from Yugash named Hammer of the Populat, and from Ein is Mercurial Intelligence Alloy (coming back from checking in on the secret intelligence network that is currently in place in Yugash) and Radiant Godmetal Exemplar providing security. The other Champions of the city, Integral Tower Overseer, Thousand Gears of Industry, Mechanism Inherent Psyche, The Needed Part Packed by Instinct, Last Argument of Maker and Populat, and Shadow Blade of Justice are expected to be at the platform to greet the arriving ship and to keep the crowds at bay. The rest of Ein's Champions are elsewhere in the city performing their work or, in the case of Thrice Blessed Saber, he is in deep meditation, searching inwards for signs from the Great Maker on when and where he is to establish a new city for Kamak.

It is in the middle of the third shift of the day that the skiff calls ahead and signals that it is making its final approach to Ein's landing grid on one of the upper pylons of the city. A crowd of nearly two hundred citizens have come to see the gathered Champions and the members of the Tripartite Assembly as they come off the skiff, and there is also a squad of twenty members of the city's security forces are there as crowd control. There is hardly any real need to worry about security with so many Champions around, but order must be maintained for the good of the people. Besides, Yugash is a long time friend and ally to Kamak. Why would you expect any difficulties from their people, here, in the heart of Kamak?

Thousand Gears of Industry is standing next to several other members of Ein's Tripartite Assembly that is there to play host to the out of towners, her golden armor gleaming in the harsh light of Essence discharges that dance about the chamber that houses the great city. She is the newest of the Champions of Ein, and is somewhat unsure of herself in the presence of so many glorious Champions of Ein. She is dressed in a simple flowing robe that covers her torso but leaves her arms and lower legs exposed to the elements, but thanks to her design, the cold does not bother her.

How are the rest of Ein's Champions dressed and equipped?

Radiant Godmetal Exemplar

Outer platform of the airship, inbound to Ein

Radiant Godmetal Exemplar stood on the metal grid panels used by the airship's maintenance crews to service and repair the vessel's hull. He was dressed in his usual attire, heavy worker's boots (the better to remind himself that all things were grounded in the labors of the Populat), his heavy synthetic leather belt carrying his razor claws and his kilt. His only adaptation in regards the frigid air and the winds at these altitudes was wearing a great kilt, a length of the fabric wrapped about his waist brought up and over his right shoulder to fall back down across his chest. Within the warmth of the vessel's gondola, his charges readied themselves for that tentative first meeting with representatives from his home city. Of course, the meeting would be likened to two brothers meeting up after a time apart, not two strangers meeting for the first time. But still, even old allies should maintain a good first impression with each meeting.

Exemplar had removed himself from the interior, ostensibly so he could look ahead and see that all was ready for the airship's arrival, but if he was more honest with himself he wanted to see the majesty of his home from the air again. He had seen it when they had left, and he had had the opportunity to compare it to Yugash's capital. The latter was, in his opinion, pretty, but its surroundings were not as spectacular as those of Kamak. As he watched, an immense arc of electricity danced across the walls of the cavern, lighting up the entire area with a bright blue light. Exemplar felt his hair filaments stir in the charged atmosphere after the discharge and felt as if Kamak was welcoming home her favored children with a spectacular display. He opened his mouth and recited a parable of Kadmek's wisdom and love for all Autochthonia, because it seemed appropriate for the moment.

He idly wondered as the airship made its final approach which Champions would be assigned to meet the vessel. He knew already that Thrice Blessed Saber would likely not be attending. Of late, the venerable Champion was spending many work cycles in deep communion with The Great Maker. Exemplar wondered when he would receive proper inspiration and go forth to raise a new city. That left the rest of the city's assembly. Integral Tower Overseer would definitely be there, watching out for Ein's councilors. As for the others? Who could tell. It had been several days since he had left Ein during which, anything could have occurred. The airship descended and the landing platform came into view. The cluster of waiting onlookers were the first discernible thing, then the smaller group of dignitaries. Exemplar's eyes swept the group. The near-skeletal horned figure of Mechanism Inherent Psyche. Ah! Thousand Gears of Industry attending one of her first official engagements. Exemplar smiled as he watched her fidgeting nervously. The eclectic and awkward form of The Needed Part Packed By Instinct standing slightly apart from the rest. The mighty form of Last Argument of Maker and Populat stood out above the heads of the dignitaries, his featureless head turning as often back as forward, seeking out any threats. The final figure, standing stock still and watching him with an expressionless face, made him pause. Had he a heart, it might have fluttered in a momentary state of trepidation. But he had no such fallible organ, so the appearance of Shadow Blade of Justice was only disconcerting to him, nothing more. So it appeared that the souls of those who had been so influential in his souls' previous lives had been crystalised into her soulgem. He wondered about the reasoning for that, but resolved that he would not go out of his way to seek an answer. If there was a reason, then it would present itself, in time.

The airship slowed as it approached the platform, a klaxon sounding to warn of its approach.

Last Argument of Maker and Populat

Landing platform, Ein

Ever since he first came out of the vats, Last Argument has known that his mostly featureless appearance was disconcerting to the people under his protection, and even an embarrassment to the worthy sodalites who had served as the Great Maker's Tools in giving him his form. Thus, as his was want, he had dressed in heavy robes with a deep hood covering hiding his visage in shadows., and his deceptively delicate black jade fingers were griping his forearms beneath the cover of long sleeves. Despite his deep hood, his eyes and ears were ever alert for the slightest sign of disturbance of the peace, be it from malcontents among the Populat, the Yugashi delegation or an unexpected third source. He cut an imposing figure, standing taller and broader than any but the very largest of Champions, and he had even left his Manifold Transhuman Implants uninstalled as a concession to the diplomatic nature of this mission, and the possibility that following the delegation into more cramped spaces would be necessary.

Shadow Blade of Justice

Landing Platform, Ein

Though her skin and features allowed her to pass as any human, the perfection of her form defied human standards. She wore a long, black dress embroidered with violet thread that matched her eyes. She wore a long, black cloak lined in a dark purple. She had the clasps closed and so it fell about her, encircling her and though it had arm holes, she kept her hands inside the cloak for the added warmth. With the hood down she watched as the last skiff of the day came into land. She noticed that she was not the only Champion among the crowd of people but even so, she moved about them, keeping her ears out for that which offended her. Her attention, however, was focused on a man and recognition flared in her eyes and she found herself drawn to the front.

Outer platform of the airship, inbound to Ein

In the midst of Radiant Godmetal Exemplar's musings, Mercurial Intelligence Alloy stepped out onto the same metal grid panels though with a bit more caution. Then again, caution was her watchword. The Moonsilver Caste had a reputation for caution, carefulness and a thorough attention to detail.

While in Yugash, she wore what the Yugashian Populat wore. But now on the return flight to Ein, Mercurial Intelligence Alloy was once more in the plain black robes of the Kamakian people, complete with veil scarf. Only the diamond soulgem on her forehead and her silvery half-concealed face made her stand out from any other Kamakian.

The electrical discharge near the ship rippled across the Moonsilver's skin and, in a rare moment of display, she pushed back her hood to reveal her silver-wrought hair...which she promptly rebraided with adept skill before once more shrouding herself in one of the usual hoods that Kamak's Populat wore.

She didn't speak unless spoken to, simply kept company with her fellow Champion as the ship descended towards the landing platform. But if Radiant Godmetal Exemplar's lack of reaction at the sight of Shadow Blade of Justice gave her nothing to notice, Mercurial Intelligence Alloy couldn't help but notice the movement from the Starmetal Caste and where the other woman's attention was given her exposed face.

The Moonsilver Caste glanced once at Orichalcum Caste beside her before turning back to head inside the airship. They would be expected to depart with the airship with the delegation, after all.

Onboard the skiff, there is a bit of idle conversation among the passengers as the airship makes its final approach. There are no stewardess to serve you; even in Kamak such a waste of labor is considered near criminal. As Exemplar enters the passenger compartment, you see the venerable Luminor March seated by himself. He sees you enter and he motions for you to join him. Over the low thrum of the engines powering the repulsers, he says, "I hope you don't mind sitting next to an old man, but I just had to switch my seat. I do love my fellow Assemblymen, but I just couldn't take another lecture on the might of the Divine Ministers from Mera." He chuckles at himself. "Hardly the glowing image I want to portray to the populat; I trust you won't spill my secret." Farther up the ship, you can see Celebrant Mera seated next to her counterpart on Kamak's National Council, undoubtably discussing the next several weeks as Ein plays host to the Yugashi delegates.

On the platform, observers can see the glowing light of the repulsers on the skiff as it approaches. The gathered crowd is nearly silent, not wanting to invade the personal space of their neighbors with such a rude display. The skiff slows at it approaches before it gently lowers itself down to the deck, and then you can hear and see that the repulsers finally power down, signaling its arrival.

A low murmur can be heard from the crowd as the excitement gets to be too much to contain as they wait to catch that first glimpse of the politicians and the Champions.

Mechanism Inherent Psyche

Domicile near the Garden of Creation, Ein, Earlier that Morning

"Your fidgeting." The older but still hale man said without looking at the champion. He was busy fussing with his own garments, and was far more acustom to this sort of thing even if he didn't have the love of it some of the Olgotary did.

"Champions of god and nation do not fidget." Psyche could never be said to speak sullenly, though the deliberately flat affect meant the same thing to those who knew him.

"Indeed they do not. Which makes it all the worse that you are." He finally finished adjusting the badges of rank and turned around as though for inspection. "If this troubles you so much, you do not have to go. No one will make an issue of so minor a transgression."

"Perhaps they would spin it as, 'He was there all the time, you just didn't see him.' Which is how I would prefer it. I was not meant for this Jorst, the Archon's can have the spotlight."

"By Noi, but there are miracles!" the human's amusement melted years from his face, "Your justify your discomfort with shyness instead of a very reasonable sounding excuse about being optimized to provide covert security."

"Doesn't that go without saying?" While Psyche was never sullen, snarky was another matter.

"Psyche, this is a good thing. You are not a machine, no matter how much the logic seems right. You were meant, were made, to be more than man or machine. You are more."

"Speaking of miracles, that sounded like a rousing speech. You hate those."

"We do what we must for God and State."

The champion looked at the suit of armor hanging in a shallow niche. He stood, walked over to it, and looked over it thoughtfully.

"Would this qualify as formal wear?"

Landing Platform, Ein

Even on the tightly crowded platform the champions and tripartite members received a narrow cushion of space. Those of their station deserved no less. Psyche by contrast was standing alone. The way he held himself, the way those around him carefully angled themselves to avoid even the chance of touching him, the way his optical sensor's flashed as he scrutinized the approaching airship... all combined to make it clear that he was present, but not part of what was going on. Not the way the others were.

In my combat loadout.

Using my Optical Enhancement to scan the airship's interior from a mile away. Should I make a roll for that?

OOC Go ahead and make a Per + Awareness roll, please.

Psyche zooms in with his enhanced vision to the hull of the skiff as it approaches. You can see that this particular model has a Essence shield providing additional protection from damage; probably chosen for safety in the Reaches, especially with the continual threat from Estasia. The ship shows that it is well maintained, as would be expected for any vessel transporting so many Tripartite members and Champions. There is nothing to indicate that there is any trouble with the ship at all.

With no alarm raised from the approach control tower, the skiff makes its landing unmolested. A hush falls over the crowd as everyone waits anxiously for the hatch to open. Finally, the port side door iris' open to reveal Hammer of the Populat standing in the doorway. The Exalt looks over the crowd for a moment, making eye contact with the other Champions in the crowd, then finally steps down to the deck to make way for the diplomatic party to come out now that he has done is duty to search for danger. Luminor March is the first down after Hammer, and he smiles and waves at the excited throng of people, garnering a cheer. He makes the official welcome to the Yugashi party to the city of Ein.

Speeches are the order of the day, but the Yugash delegation are not quite used to the low temperature as the Kamaki folk are, so arrangements have been made for the formal ceremonies to take place inside a vast auditorium that is out of the bitter cold. While hardly the most productive use of your time, the Champions of Ein are expected to be present there to show their respect and to receive the appropriate greetings from the visitors.

Giving the Orichalcum Caste his privacy, Mercurial Intelligence Alloy enters the airship proper and moves to the passenger's compartment to await final arrival. When Luminor March offers her a seat next to him, though, she flashes a brief smile (mostly seen in the lift of her cheeks above the veil but Kamakians are used to looking for subtle clues around the eyes for facial expressions since scarfs and veils are so common).

"I'm honored, Assemblyman March, thank you." She accepts the seat and folds her hands in her lap. "And your secrets aren't the ones I was commissioned to find." There's a touch of humor in Mercurial Intelligence Alloy's voice but also seriousness; she does take her duty very seriously. "I wouldn't worry too much, though. It's the Celebrants who see to the Populat's perception of the Divine Ministers. In your many years of faithful service, I'm certain you've heard many such lectures. Perhaps you need no more reminders. It's been a long trip in any case. I'm looking forward to returning to our home. As I'm sure you are, Assemblyman."

Mercurial Intelligence Alloy makes small talk with Luminor March (more listening than talking) until the skiff lands. She disembarks when he does, yielding the lead to March but remaining close on hand in case he'd like an escort or a little extra support (one must make allowances for those advanced in years). The Moonsilver Caste is plainly uncomfortable being stared at and fixes her eyes on the walk in front of her, ignoring the crowd, until she's able to join the other Champions present.

When the Champions of Ein are called to attend the formal ceremonies, she bows her head obediently and walks in with the rest.

Radiant Godmetal Exemplar

Outer platform of the airship --> Interior

Exemplar returned within the vessel as it drew close to the landing platform. He adjusted his great kilt, bringing a fold up and over his head, before pulling a long cloak over his body, shrouding his limbs and torso in the traditional Kamakian style. While he felt no concern about exposing his physique, he well knew the taboos of his people and the discomfort his appearance would cause should he walk abroad so improperly dressed. He waited as the Yugashi delegates and the Kamak assemblymen dismounted before following Mercurial Intelligence Alloy. He stepped down from the vessel onto the steel landing platform and cast his eyes over the group that awaited them. He nodded and bowed to each of the other Champions, then bowed deeply to the waiting dignitaries. Relinquishing the duty of escorting the visiting Yugashi, Exemplar falls in with the other Exalts.

"Hail and well met, fellow Champions of Kamak!", his resonant voice rolled out from his mouth, rich and smooth as freshly cooled synthetic silk, "I trust all has been well. Has Thrice Blessed Saber said anything yet of the Great Maker's plans for him?"

Thousand Gears of Industry comes over to welcome Exemplar. With a shake of the head, she says, "So far, our eldest has not come forth from his meditations for several cycles. He is deep in thought, seeking some word from the Maker as to where he should go. How was your visit to Yugash? Did you enjoy your time away from the cold?" The younger Champion offers an arm to Luminor March as the old man makes his way forward. He smiles up at the statuesque woman. "You don't need to do this. While I am an old man, I still have many good years left to me!"

"It is no chore for me to aid those in need. It is my function."

"Well said, my dear. If only all of our population had such a strong work ethic. Ah, well. I do thank you for your aid, Champion."

All of you, please make Perception + Awareness rolls.

Shadow Blade of Justice

"Hail and well met, fellow Champions of Kamak! I trust all has been well. Has Thrice Blessed Saber said anything yet of the Great Maker's plans for him?"

Though the voice was new to her, the vibrancy and the enthusiasm behind them were as old and as familiar to Shadow as the sound of her own footsteps. She couldn't help but smiling, an action that she found she probably didn't do too often. She didn't answer for his comments, she intuited were not meant for her, but for all in general. She knew, without knowing exactly how she knew, that when he was ready to speak to her, he would seek her out in private for a conversation. She was also sure that the timing would be of his convenience and it would greatly inconvenience her. There was something familiar about that as well and it made her grunt in the effort to refrain from laughing. She would not allow him to make her laugh. Hers was a stern duty.

She fell into the line of Champions, behaving no differently than her peers, acting as if she was but another cog in the machine. A glorious machine of great purpose, but a machine all the same. But sometimes cogs broke and they failed and she had to be ever alert for those cogs so that they might not infect others. The Great Machine was only as strong as its weakest part and, for the good of the whole, she sought out those- she forced herself to relax. This was not a day of reminding herself her purpose for existence. She knew what it was. Today was a purpose of celebration. It might help if she reminded herself of that; the others didn't seem to need reminding.

Radiant Godmetal Exemplar

Auditorium

Once within the extravagantly decorated interior of the Ein Peoples' Center for Recreational Pursuits, Performances, Engagements and Emergency Refuge Bunker #2, Exemplar doffed his cape and dropped the hood he'd fashioned. He looked around to ensure that no unauthorised citizens had gained entry then as he turned back he found himself face to face with the still-cloaked figure of Shadow Blade of Justice. He felt a moment of awkwardness, but pushed past it and continued.

"Greetings, Shadow Blade. I trust you have not been overworked in your duties. After all, 'the overworked gear is a detriment to the workings of the greater machine for it shall fail fastest'.", he smiled, looking down at her.

Mechanism Inherent Psyche

Psyche remained aloof, nodding politely to those he was supposed to and turning silently to begin walking. Which was not to say he was disengaged. His eyes constantly flashed toward a tall man with grey hair who was near the front of the crowd.

Vigilance never hurt anyway, though he knew from experience that it didn't always help.

[dice]3713[/dice]

As the delegates move towards the waiting entrance to the auditorium, Psyche notices a flash of metal in the crowd; it takes you only a moment to spot that there are a total of eight men fumbling with their robes to pull something out. Suddenly, you spot the distinctive shape of a Essence pulse grenade in the hands of one of the men! It is armed, and he is pulling his hand back to throw the weapon into the assembled delegates!

Join Battle rolls please. @Exthalion, you get 2 extra dice on your JB roll to be able to react to the grenade throwers.

Mechanism Inherent Psyche

He knew it, he had known it, and the indignation of it galled him into action faster than thought. This was what he had been waiting for, what the unobservant had mistaken for awkwardness or boredom. It had been tension, and like a spring uncoiling he whirled about. The vibration of essence crystallizing into a crossbow bolt was a familiar companion, a reminder that he was in control, that he could do this, and that his foes would soon learn that Kadmek answered every slight.

His crossbow was level before he was aware that he was moving, aimed squarely between the eyes of the one with the grenade. He wouldn't enjoy the killing, but the perfect shot was its own satisfaction.

Spending a point of WP to channel conviction. Gave myself a 2 die stunt to recover the WP spent.

Radiant Godmetal Exemplar

Auditorium

A sudden movement from Mechanism Inherent Psyche drew Exemplar's attention and he saw his fellow Champion drawing his weapon. The aggressive action set the mighty Orichalcum Caste into action as he turned in the direction his comrade had drawn down on, sighted the cluster of insurgents, and took off toward them, his powerful legs accelerating him toward them.

How DARE they attempt such an act of aggression within the capital! Radiant Godmetal Exemplar would make an example of these ingrates such that generations to come would shudder to know of their fates for the capital crimes they had committed.

"For Kamak, Kadmek and The Great Maker!", he roared, hunching low as he sprinted toward his targets.

Shadow Blade of Justice

"
Greetings, Shadow Blade. I trust you have not been overworked in your duties. After all, 'the overworked gear is a detriment to the workings of the greater machine for it shall fail fastest."

"Greetings Exemplar, I-," she never got to finish her statement as Exemplar roared past her, brandishing his weapons. She twirled on the spot, bringing her own to her hands with practiced movement. She knew Exemplars wrath for though she felt it, she did not allow the emotions cloud her. Her anger was easily swallowed by the worry she had for her human charges. What if they should be hurt, killed, or worse, contaminated by the actions of these blasphemers? She would protect them, protect them from those who would hurt their hearts, minds, and souls. After all, this was the purpose of her days.

She did not scream or shout but moved through the people much like a piece of silk ribbon being pulled through stone. She was fluidity of movement and at times she almost seemed as if the laws of gravity could not affect her. "For the survival of the innocent."

In the blink of an eye, Last Argument is in motion, his powerful legs carrying him up and interposing himself between the ambushers and the delegates. The long sleves of his robes swirl around him, making an improvised shield, ideal for redirecting small thrown objects.

[dice]3729[/dice]

Still embarrassed by all of the attention of descending the skiff's ramp in full view of the public, with all the attention that entailed, Mercurial Intelligence Alloy had largely kept to herself and avoided eye contact with the other Champions. If not for Exemplar's reaction, she might still have her eyes fixed on the ground. The cry of alarm triggers a reflexive billowing of her sleeves as her arms race for her belt. Hands grip the hilts of her twin monofilament scourges. And all the while, the Moonsilver Caste is looking urgently for the source of the trouble.

[dice]3730[/dice]

The crowd of people around you are beginning to notice something is wrong as their various Champions suddenly produce weapons and burst into movement. Most stand in place, wondering what to do, but a few with a heightened sense of self preservation begin to run.

As Psyche begins to blur forward, you now can see that there is at least nine attackers, one of them is throwing off his robes to reveal soulsteel armor; obviously a Exalt. The other eight are producing Essence pulse grenades, pulling their arms back to throw them into the assembled Tripartite members at the head of the auditorium.

He was afraid.

People were running in every direction, more foes than he could track were all acting, his allies were shouting and attacking: the chaos threatened to drown him. His grip on the trigger wavered. He was too close, too enmeshed in the event. The simplicity that distance lent was gone, only confusion remained.

I can't do this. There are too many, too much going on, I can't handle it all. All these people... Jorst...

As he fought the rising panic and aligned the sight to his eye he said a silent prayer. "Maker, give me the strength to do my duty."

Then the chaos was gone. All the motion resolved into an equation of simple elegance, a vector field that removed all ambiguity. With sudden clarity Psyche saw the lines of purpose and Design guiding him. He did not lift, did not aim, did not fire; in that moment of clarity he simply acted. Autochthon took care of the rest.

Ketothen had always had exceptional vision. As a child the light of welding torches had hurt his eyes, so sensitive were they to the dark. In the reaches he honed his natural skill until it was nearly exalted in its potency. Recently his right eye had been troubling him. First it had been minor problems like bits of grit that got in to irritate it at the worst times. Recently it had been a gremlin attack that had scratched the surface. Only the Maker knew how he had escaped loosing it all together. On this trip however all that had cleared up, and Ketothen took it as a good omen.

The last thing his right eye saw was a crystal bolt just before it passed through the ocular socket and out the back of his skull. After that, Ketothen saw no more.

Mishtan had no doubt about what he was doing. He did this because there was no choice, because this as what he had to do. When the enemy champions began to bellow their war cries he had his own ready in answer. His mouth was open, his lungs were filled, his arm was cocked, and the first syllable was about to begin.

That was when the the bolt that killed his comrade Ketothen caught him in the throat.

I think you only get to apply a stunt to one attack and only get one stunt per attack action. I applied it to my second attack.

Let me know if it is different.
