Ancient legends dating 2,000 years back tell of a time where the last of the ancient world collapsed and darkness ravaged the world, and humanity was stuck in a never ending age of treachery and fear. Disease, war, and anarchy reigned across the continent and hope was scarce... However, this darkness would soon end with the rise of the Three Empires. Technology advanced with their coming and the world would finally stabilize. Almost every reach of the continent was brought under their control, and with it came times of peace and prosperity. The Three Empires were known first and foremost as The Sky-Blade Kingdom, The Aedronic Empire, and the Dragonfire Empire.
The Sky-Blade Kingdom gets its name by its ruling dynasty, The Sky-Blade clan. The people of this kingdom are known for being particularly warlike, and there are no finer swordsmen that can be found in this land. They worship The War God, who they believe brings luck in both battle and life. The Aedronic Empire is a society full of innovations, where architecture, medicine, and arcane knowledge is advanced and ahead of the other empires. Criminals are either enslaved or banished to the wilderness in by law. There is no major religion in the lands of the Aedronic, and there are hundreds of local cults and pantheons, each and every one unique. Last but not least is the Dragonfire Empire, a culture who has learned to tame and live alongside dragons, which they consider sacred and descended from other worlds. They are ruled by a divine council who controls everything from accounting to military.
Ever since their founding, the Empires were wary and suspicious of the other, and had a disdain for each other. However, these xenophobic states rarely fell into war with each other and for the majority of the time things were peaceful. Sometimes conflicts would arise over land disputes or border control, but for the most time they never clashed.. Until recently. The year is now 499, and after the Aedronic Empire carried out numerous slave raids on the other empires, a war broke out between them. At first the Dragonfires worked with the Sky-Blades to defeat the Aedronic tyrants, but soon they named the Sky-Blades "pagan fools" and sacked their lands when they least expected it. This is your story, and it starts 1 month before the year becomes 500. Are you a soldier fighting on the front lines? Perhaps a rich baron with your own castle, trying to keep your high status or serve your liege in the war? A smuggler or thief who helps out the poor or works only for their own benefit? It's your choice...
