- Personality:
Sam's mindset could often be described as a "one track mind". He tends to fixate on things and get tunnel vision as a result. He is usually quite the excitable type with a flexible mind grasping at many possibilities though the details have a bit of lag coming to mind, but if something upsetting comes to the forefront it completely and very quickly take over his thoughts, making him prone to some big mood swings. Furthermore, when he has a goal or something he wants to dedicate his energy too, he will pour every ounce of effort and thought into it, potentially to the detriment of other things, and holding himself to a high standard which he will do his utmost to meet, or else it may hit him hard (this makes him, for instance, a completionist when it comes to games, and is rarely satisfied without being at the top of whatever he dedicates himself to, at least locally). The high standards he sets himself to are often the source of his disappointment, and also drive the very thing that places a more reasonable limit to his behavior, a strict adherence to a personal sense of honor. He always tries to set fair terms for things, and refuses to lie, thus having little filter when it comes to what he says, for better or worse (though it should be noted that he doesn't consider lying by omission to actually be lying).
With all of that, one might think he has an inflated sense of pride, but if anything, he has long since discard the pride and arrogance of his childhood. Nowadays he has little shame, and is really just trying to hold himself to a minimum to keep himself from truly reaching rock bottom. He is ready to go very down and get his hands dirty, though he still fears and hates humiliation with a passion. All of this is perhaps at the root of why he clings so easily and to such an extent to people he believes he is growing close to, still haunted by loneliness, but at the same time hesitates to even try to form those connections and has grown ever more hesitant to trust people. He is the type who takes lessons learned to heart, whatever kind they may be, and doesn't forget easily. His apparent laziness and laid-back attitude, as well as the way he holds grudges and often acts petty are among the result of this trait of his. Still, nomatter how petty he may act, how much he may complain about other people and society and the unfairness, deep down in some way he can't help but wonder whether he deserves or even caused all of that. He may not be outward about it, but when push comes to shove, he is the type of person who is prepared to sacrifice his own happiness and goals because he believes that would let others reach a happiness they deserve. One he is unsure that he does.

- Sam's mother was a very ambitious woman. One of those types of people who would do just about anything to get ahead. At the time of his birth she was a wealthy and successful actress, and being her son gave Sam access to many privileges in his early childhood. Who got into a good school, and would often easily find himself surrounded by 'friends' who were there for him, and only occasionally asked a favor or two. His mother put quite a bit of pressure on him to study, but it wasn't too much for him, and even when it seemed things went wrong she was quick to go complain to the school about it. But, what he never realized, was that her marriage, and even his birth, they were all part of a convenient stunt. The moment the scandal of a divorce seemed like less of a threat to her career than the advances of a particular producer, his mother was quick to file for a divorce and leave Sam to her former husband. A few strings were pulled, and soon the media was painting Sam's father as responsible for the divorce, and the people who were previously Sam's "friends" turned on him as he continued to have the same arrogant, self-interested attitude, only now he didn't have the backing from before.
His father thus decided it was best to move, and to try to find a school were people wouldn't be so familiar with them, to let things calm down. Sam had yet to grasp that those friends were just trying to get close to him because of his mother, and so he took the way he was treated as a fluke. Much to his shock, however, his behavior still led to people being pushed away from him or even being upset with him, in the new school. Thus, unable to make friends, he decided to focus on his studies instead. However, despite his hard work he couldn't quite match up to the results he used to have, which isn't to say he didn't have good grades, very good in fact, but he never quite made it to the top. He was never the one people would look up to, rely on or praise for their grades or intelligence. As time went on, and the pressure of loneliness built up, he began growing more and more desperate. Previously he might have shunned or push away people, but now he grew clingy to anyone who showed him even a hint of friendliness. While to most people this excessive attachment was uncomfortable, there was one kind of person who was delighted to know of this, the exact worst kind of people for him, who saw him as an easy mark to exploit.
Once again, some people began pretending to be Sam's friend, and once more he fell hook line and sinker. From time to time, he would even get a girlfriend, but the relationship would inevitably end once he could no longer keep buying them gifts and taking them out to restaurants with his allowance (and eventually with part-time jobs). His grades dropped too as he tried to please the people he grew attached to and thus dedicated a large amount of time to them, time he could no longer use to study as he did before. Not even Sam could go in perpetuity like this without growing wise to what was happening though, and so he gradually retreated away from those people, no longer letting himself be used, but also renouncing those kinds of personal relationships, whether or not they were genuine.
Studies and games became his focus again, his college years spent almost entirely on those two things, with only part time jobs adding to it. He discovered he had something of a talent for finding patterns and uncovering information with investigative work, so after trying a few things he ended up settling for becoming a corporate investigator. However, while many in that position would work for regulatory agencies, he wanted to try a different route, gathering the information to sell information. One tentative client of this was a certain lady working on a investment fund. However, this attitude at work lead her to find alternative sources of the information he provided, and he ended up fired right as things seemed to be on the upturn for him...
