Fantasy Interest Check: A Musical Fantasy

Allow me to begin by saying that I am in love with music. Mostly indie folk / folk punk, with a few bands from outside that loop thrown in. Because of this, I regularly attempt to spread this idea of mine, an rp universe in specific, that heavily uses music in its themes. I usually call it what you saw before, "A Musical Adventure."


As summer is just beginning for me and I have the free time and the inspiration to do so, I'd like to start up another board in this universe. I'll include a map below with its general setting information, like the history of the world with the plots I want to use.


Basically, tell me what you think of this and if it interests you. Also, what's your favorite type of music? Got any recommendations?

World of Bheesaide:


Where on Earth music is full of cultural and personal importance, on Bheesaide it has literal life. Entities known as "songs", given shape in the multiverse, appear in Bheesaide when summoned by powerful individuals called Musicians. Throughout history, not only daily life but warfare and sport have been shaped by the presence of Songs and their partner Musicians. Together, they conquer nations and unite the masses under a common banner. Citizens of the seven nations all strive to become the greatest of their kind, aiming for a place as one of the eight Conductors that guide the world's politics.


Possible plotlines:


Concerto 13 - The mysterious death of Conductor Jackson has left the world in a panic. Musicians scramble to put together the pieces caused by his sudden loss. Meanwhile, the remaining conductors put together a tournament to find his replacement, as is tradition. This will be the 13th of these tournaments, referred to as Concerto 13. Teams from every city across the globe will meet in Classic, Rock to prove themselves worthy while the investigation goes on.


Cult of Personality - A rash of incidents across the globe has led to tensions between the seven nations. Who is causing this mass hysteria? Why are the targets being chosen by this assailant? All that is known by the world at large is the looming threat of a war between nations should any of them be discovered as the source of the attacks.


The Sound of Silence - There has always been a mass of noise pollution to the north, coincidentally called the Northern Noise. No one is shocked by its lethality, nor by the unwillingness of any nation to explore it. What is surprising, however, is the sudden appearance of a zone of pure silence that has recently been detected in the storm. The explorers and scientists of Bheesaide are proposing grants to explore this development, and requesting youth with a talent for Song work to join them in an expedition north. It will be the largest undertaking of its time, a real moment for the history books. One must wonder what lies in store in the zone of silence...

I like the idea, might be good to split it into a three part series. I would definitely join though. But just wondering, as one of the musicians, would we pick a Song to manifest normally for our character?

I'm more of classical music fanatic and love the fact that i can relate to this (I also listen to other music like pink floyd and P!ATD and such so i can understand and add details about other genres)


I think the third plot is the most interesting (Although concerto 13 comes in at a close close second) but i can also see the other plots working as well.


Question though, would all our character have to be Musician, or can we play a Song?

Definitely! The plan is to make a board for one of the plot lines at a time. And you would be picking up one or more Songs to have as a sort of sub-character. In past rp's, they've been secondary characters who have their own personalities in addition to having weapon / ability forms like Shaman King or Soul Eater. I like to base mine around cute mascot-types.

Hey, glad to hear it! I can definitely agree that Panic! is an interesting band, as well as Pink Floyd. Glad to see that the third is gaining popularity, I've never tried that one myself. And you can absolutely play a Song, I have regularly introduced a Song NPC as a character so it wouldn't be too far for an independent Song to have a place in the world.

Oh fabulous! There's this one song I've been recently obsessed with





and i just have several ideas for a human-like Song who kind just wonders around quietly (Since I'm going to say their composer up and left her thinking s/he was a failure of a song) , like the beginning, but when manifested s/he becomes a strong fighting machine in which her/his powers are mainly quick and light weight movements that make her/him appears as though s/he's floating (because of the fast and airy tempo).
If there's an issue with this idea please tell me~

That is a seriously awesome idea! I have on the googledoc above a few examples of songs, and I think yours definitely fits the feeling of the world. I've been planning on going into detail in the board about the various forms (direct manifestation, weapon, and ability) and I think you'll have the prime example of a direct manifestation song. Do note, though, that it would be considered the Song's special power to manifest on their own will and it would have to be listed that way.


By the way, love the song. It has a great feeling of progression to it.

Love their early work, big fan of the fast paced Dookie album. Do you have any votes on the plot then?


 
I tried this a few years ago and ended up doing a lot of crappy art for it. I wasn't the greatest artist back then, but with all the playlists and drawings I did I really grew to love this setting. Since you all don't seem the type to judge too harshly here are some of the initial sketches from a few years back:

Stairway to Heaven reminds me of Deoxys from Pokemon and Doctor Feelgood reminds me of Nurse Joy. xD

Hey I read through the googledoc and I'm really interested in this roleplay! I agree with the people above in that topics 1 and 3 are the better ones. My idea for a Musician and Songs are based around the Caribbean. (Lot's of steel drums... Etc) and the steel drum song would would manifest as a a shield in weapon form (maybe creating loud noises when struck). I'm not sure about the other form yet. Good? Not good?

Yeah, that sounds exactly like something that would fit into the universe, just make sure you have a song name chosen, it's part of the setting.

Exactly what I was thinking too. Though I think a cool liquid drum and bass person would work as a water looking Song. Maybe dubstep Songs would have electric powers

I was thinking on either dubstep or trap actually since those are my favourite genres... I think dubstep would be more of a time-space disturbation o3o and trap... trap would be... weapon summoning... don't ask why.

Besides introducing my favorite agents Kilroy and Lisa Lisa, I'll probably be bringing in a researcher to round things out. Hopefully over the week end I'll have more time to compile information on the Googledoc and get country stuff going. Until then, have those characters in mind, because I am loving what I've heard so far.


 
For the rp, I'm planning on playing a researcher musician partnered with Little Talks, a sensory specialist. May or may not do art soon of it.
