The specifics about what are characters are doing in this story is up for debate. We could be mercenaries, military, oligarch, something else, or all of the above. Based on that then we’ll chart an actual course for the plot to take.
History
Thaumaturgists have been rare if not scarce since the early 1700s. In 2000, Thaumaturgists began being born at alarming rates. Originally, the governments of the world kept them as secrets under wraps. However, during the 2020s they could no longer be kept under wraps and used as living weapons. They were revealed to society and started to be incorporated into uniformed and armed services. The degree was varied based on the country and government. Some nations make them tools of the military, law enforcement, and government agencies. Some nations have them as vassals of Oligarchs. In some nations they are the ruling class. It’s at the point where there are even mercenary Thaumaturgists.Thaumaturgists
Thaumaturgists are humans who can utilize esoteric energy. Thaumaturgists are classified as Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, and Singularity. Most Origins are discovered by the time one is an Intermediate. Thaumaturgists who haven’t unlocked their Origin yet can utilize esoteric energy manipulation techniques which are also called generic techniques. One’s Origin is the ingrained Concept of their soul. Some can have the same Origin but have entirely different techniques. Thaumaturgical techniques are derived from that Origin as well as one’s interpretation and extension of that concept. An Origin can also evolve into a Singularity in which the Thaumaturgy takes on a new name, label, and title in addition to a huge increase in power. As the title Singularity suggests there can only be one of each Singularity at any given point in time. For example, there can be many with a Fire origin but only one with the Agni origin.Esoteric Energy Manipulation
This is the use of esoteric energy in its raw form. All thaumaturgists are capable of training themselves to use esoteric energy manipulation. Projection and manipulating esoteric energy externally has immense stamina and energy consumption. Due to the esoteric energy being unrefined it’s consumption is tenfold more than when it’s refined through a Magic concept. Enhancing objects and the body while using this like shockwave and razor wind slash projection are infinitely more energy efficient.Examples:
