Futuristic Tales of the Olioverse: The Voluntas

RikuXIII

Random Schemer
Greetings.

i'm rikunobodyxiii and I'm starting a futuristic rp of the same name as the title. It's about a privateer starship trying to survive and thrive in a crazy universe made up of bits and pieces. If this sounds interesting to you, I have the longer pitch down below. If this further intrigues you, I'll have a link to the main page of the rp.

Thanks for taking a look and I'll see ya around.

~*The Olioverse*~

"Olio: a miscellaneous mixture or collection."

Many have theorized that there is an infinite number of alternate realities, ranging from practically identical to polar opposites. What most don't realize is that all of these realities share common ground. When anyone dreams in any reality, they are connect to the Dreaming.

The most important common ground has many names, such as "The Bleed", "The Warp", "The Void", or simply Nothing. This is what is what exists between realities and holds them together. There are many instances of travel, both intentional and accidental, in the Void, such as falling through holes in the universe, space anomalies, or even a magical land seemingly inside a piece of furniture. A long time ago, if you got lost in the Void, you here never heard from again...

Now, castaways in the Void, from people to even bits and pieces of dead realities, end up in the Olioverse, a patchwork reality built from the empty remains of a universe at the end of its time. It has no fully formed worlds, just space stations and lumps of rock made habitable. A few surviving and artificial stars make up the light and energy that keeps Olio going.

The hub of the Olioverse is now a thriving mega city, stretched out over many asteroids and cobbled together debris. Named simply Hub, it is watched over by the Caretaker, an old man who greets all who enter the Olioverse. It is the safest and most lawful part of the Olioverse, and even it has streets you don't go down. Many new comers to the Olioverse set out to forge their own place beyond Hub, leading to the creation of many factions out in the 'verse, from friendly traders to blood thirsty warlords. Hub is considered neutral ground and anyone who tries to attack it is crushed by Hub's defenses and all the other factions.

As if its turbulent inhabitants weren't enough, there is also a "naturally" occurring disaster that appears randomly across the Olioverse. Mostly referred to as "Null Storms", it is a vortex of approximately 2 meters square, though tendrils have been known to extend out another 10 meters. It generally moves at walking pace. All animate objects, including synthetic life and remote controlled drones, that come into direct contact with the storm disappear. It is unknown if they are warped away or simply destroyed. Survivors of close encounters with these storms swear to have seen the vague shape of a human male at the center of the vortex, leading to the more superstitious of Olio's inhabitants to call it Mr. Null. There is only ever one at a time and it often gravitates to where there are lost of living things. The only defense against it is to avoid it.

So, that's the tour. Think you can survive in the Olioverse?

~*The Voluntas*~

In this story, we will be focusing on the starship Voluntas and her crew. The Voluntas is an advanced prototype ship made from salvaged designs and adapted to accept devises and power supplies made from technomancy. The Captain stole it from the Warlord Gra Rogoth, who was killed during the escape. Now a private vessel, the Voluntas keeps flying by light scavenging, escort missions, private security, space surveys, pirate hunting, and even a little piracy versus factions that piss the captain off.

You will play the crew. Everything from engineers, pilots, medical staff, and soldiers are needed. The Captain is accepting of all types of crew members, as long as they are loyal and contribute something to the crew. She's not above nurturing a promising new recruit into a solid crew member, nor above disposing of crew who don't live up to her standards. The crew enjoy equal (working up to equal for new members) shares in all profits, and the Voluntas has had a very successful career.

It's a high risk, high reward life. You in?
