After you submit a rough concept, you may be invited to the discord to flesh out your character.

Dr. Julian Ilya Lahiri
Race interested in: Human
Profession: Diplomatic Attaché
Biography:
Dr. Julian began his academic career in relative obscurity, his doctoral thesis on ’Sexual Semiotics amongst the Syreen and its Ethnographic value‘ although raising a few eyebrows, did not seem to be the groundbreaking magnum opus he’d hoped it’d be. It did however help him get tenure at some of the best Ethnolinguistics departments in the Federation at that time. Although, It must be said that he possessed no real talent as a transmitter of knowledge, it did provide Julian with an unique opportunity to write two papers that would go onto inform much of the current day research in the field. The first of these was a rather dense treatise on the communication patterns that existed between disparate colonies of Ungooma. The second and arguably more interesting work dealt with the possibility of creating a system or program that could not only transmit information in all known language patterns (quickly becoming standard protocol in federation fleets) but also immediately translate the responses while providing a handy summary of the likely cultural dimensions of the sentients being contacted. At the insistence of his colleagues, Julian published a book co-authored by another noted anthropologist and personal friend Dr. Mackenzie, simply titled ‘First Contact’ which expanded on the aforementioned papers and enumerated certain principles both ethical and scientific that the authors posited must be followed when dealing with an unknown quantity. Although, he would never admit it, Julian was more than a little excited when the work came to be classified as required reading for aspiring officers in the fleet.
The Federation Diplomatic Corps being always in need for specialists such as himself made a few attempts at convincing him to join the service but to no avail, that is until rumours started floating around about a mission beyond the wormhole, the very possibility of aiding in the exploration of an entirely new quadrant was far too exciting. Indeed after going through a few long months of training in certain backwater postings Julian was able to secure for himself a place on the starship Calypso, destined for aptly named ‘Haven‘ system.
Motivations:
To boldly go where no man has gone before & more importantly to analyse the various alien species they’re likely to contact on the journey there.
Why I want to play the game: Well, its a Beckoncall RP so its bound to be fantastic, but also because I’m interested to see what sort of strange creatures the group might encounter and be murdered by. Sci-fi RP’s also have a queer habit of presenting you with some interesting moral conundrums you’d never have faced otherwise.

Race(s) interested in: Hanshak, Govorom or Human sound like they could be fun and fit
Profession/Skills: Agriculturalist, growing food from Lettuce to Lab-grown Lamb shanks. One of the best people to provide food where is otherwise impossible.
Backstory: Born on a backwater moon of a small trade planet. He grew up poor but never let it get to him, always relaxed and happy despite it all. The Moon he grew up on helped keep the planet below fed and he worked the fields. Unlike those people who thought this was all they would ever know and so didn't look into anything beyond their small bubble of experience but he wasn't content with that and looked to learn more, maybe make life easier. Life being easy was his priority after all and eventually, he learned about how the more densely populated planets kept their food production up. He saved up and eventually saved enough for some basic food synthesis equipment. Through experimentation and luck he came across new methods of food synthesis using a mix of real food and synthesised food and, not only was it a little cheaper and more efficient than the mainstream but it was unbelievably tasty. It was the perfect mix of processed food and delicious homegrown organic goodness. Before long everyone in the region was clamouring for it and he was making money hand over fist so he gave his business to everyone on the little moon and gave them all a fair share. He used the money that he made to keep experimenting and making ever-better combinations, modifying even better crops from what they had and growing even better products in the lab. He figured out ways to grow crops on low oxygen worlds and planets with nearly no soil nutrients. He was asked to come to some of the more central worlds to show what he knew, he kept refusing but he eventually accepted, though he wasn't going to tell any big businessmen how he did it. Instead, he just bought out some poorer neighbourhoods and set up another wing of his business under their names.
When he was offered a chance to see part of the Galaxy that no one had seen yet he thought that sounded great and all they wanted was for him to help keep people fed and keep the ships agricultural supplies and systems working and flowing. Instead, he made them all work better, more efficient and tastier and found room for a small bit of hyroponics to help really improve what he could supply the crew.
Motivations: To see new parts of the Galaxy and maybe even get to discover new crops to grow, test his tech and ensure that the new quadrant galaxy is real relaxed.
Why I want to play the game: I always love some exploration and shiz in RP and well, a Beck RP, is a Brilliant RP. So a chance to explore space, overcome adversity and keep on surviving while Beck is trying to (not) kill us all? Sounds great.

Benjamin Oppenheimer

Race(s) interested in: Human, Drudge

Profession/Skills: Economic Consultant/Activist Investor/Corporate Raider

Backstory: Cash, buck, bills, coins, credits, quids, moolah, bits, shinies, bling, notes, certs, so many different ways in the galaxy to say the most important thing in the universe, money. Money makes the worlds go round, keeps the engines roaring, and people working. Money opens a lot of doors and makes a lot of problems go away. Want to know how to make a lot of it? Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful. So when you get an offer to explore an unknown galaxy that everyone is scared shitless to go to? You take that opportunity and run to the nearest bank with it... course you might have to build a bank there in the first place, but nothing in life is ever easy.

Hell, it could take a lot to get to the position where you're offered such an opportunity like working for a decade as a grunt for a banker with a huge ego while practically living in the office since you have no time to go home. Always working on some sort of deal and meeting with clients. It's a shitty situation, but an educational one especially if it gives you the skill sets and connections to work in consulting for the Federation. That said, the work never ends and until the deal is signed and the ink dried, you never know what can happen to an offer, so always makes sure to see things through to the end. Hopefully, this trip to Heaven will be smooth sailing. I've got some investors to make happy and some fees to collect... not to mention a bank to open. How many interns should I hire when I get there? Hmm... one to work on pitchbooks... one to make models and projections... and most importantly one to get me my morning coffee. Heaven, here I come!

Motivations: Greed is good.

Why I want to play the game: A whole galaxy to explore with other folks to try and build up a space colony? What isn't there to like? There's a lot of money to be made and bringing in a sense of real life bureaucracy and greed will help bring a bit of suspension of disbelief. Like they say, there's nothing new under the sun... though what happens when a solar system doesn't have a sun? A solar system that is orbiting around a black hole might have something new.

Yuvrath

Race(s) interested in:
Shevar
Profession/Skills: space and dimensional study expert
Backstory: Yuvarth was one of the many experts that helped bridge the gap between the home dimension of the Shevar and this dimensions. During the settling of the world they had found and the feeding Yubarth did make note of the interesting things they feed off, but like many He did not think of it as life. Still for Yuvarth this new dimension with new rules presented more than just food, it presented new things ti discover and perhaps new life, as they thought of it, to find. Yuvarth would travel from world to world as they had their great feeding. He had started to think that the things they were feeding on might be some strange form of life, but the barrier of communication prevented this idea from every truly taking off, until of course this barrier was at last broken and all the pieces feel into place.

While the age of expansion and free feeding was over and many other Shevar decided to return home to feed freely or simply due to lack of interest in others, Yuvarth decided to stay. He had grown fascinated by the life of this dimension and it's many rules. he did not at all feel bad for all the life her had eaten himself or by his people merely the loss of the entertaining knowledge they might have had. Yuvarth would in time Approach the labs of the Galactic Alliance offering to aid them with his knowledge of his peoples seemingly arcane methods of manipulating dimensions if he could gain access to many of their data banks.

Yuvarth upon hearing of the plans to visit new parts of the galaxy would without hesitation attempt to sign up. while the idea that someone of his specialization might not be the most needed in this new area Yuvarth argued about the possible anomalies that might be found and needing to study how the wormhole would affect space time on both ends. Thus his higher ups would consent to him traveling on boad the Calypso.

Motivations: The exploration of this dimension and any irregularities within along with possible exploration into even more dimensions.
Why I want to play the game: Well beck Rp's are always well thought out and after the last one i was in stopped i have been wanting to do another, it is hard to find the mix of flexible and firm found in these rps. Also i like high scifi settings.

Cassandra Maris
Race(s) interested in: Syreen

Profession/Skills: Inventor and Engineer

Backstory: Cassandra grew up in a busy port planet, visited by all races and beings for trade and business, and led a very comfortable life. Her mother, Theodora, was a renowned and highly sought-after courtesan and singer whose clientele included a significant number of powerful politicians who paid good money for her company and to have their secrets kept, well, secret. As such, Cassandra had to spend most of her childhood hidden in her bedroom away from the public's eye to protect her mother's reputation. To keep herself entertained, Cassandra started creating fantastical inventions, first on paper and later when she had convinced her mother buy her some proper tools, in actuality. Ironically, despite possessing Syreen abilities, her growing up in isolation left her social skills somewhat... wanting to put it nicely. She's jaded by the concept of love and sees all relationships as transactional. Cassandra's father is a complete enigma to her and while her mother has always been happy to share stories about him, the points often don't align with her previous telling or seem mildly exaggerated. The only thing she knows for sure is that he was a human.

One night, she overheard screaming and sobbing from her mother's room. She rushed in to find her mother badly beaten up on the floor and a man kneeled over her with his hand around her throat. In a moment of anger and impulse, she grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed him in the back before kicking him in the head and knocking him out. The man turned out to be a client of Theodora's and one of said powerful politicians. Afraid of the consequences her daughter might face when he awoke, Theodora ordered Cassandra to flee.

It has been several years since she was forced to leave her home planet. She jumps from planet to planet, afraid that she might be found if she stayed in one place for too long. She learned to use her Syreen blood to get what she needs and takes up odd jobs helping to fix and maintain ships in exchange for free passage. She continues to invent and tinker, except instead of toys and useful day-to-day appliances, she now creates various weaponry.

Upon hearing of the Calypso, Cassandra immediately jumped at the opportunity and using her powers of persuasion, secured herself a place on board.

Motivations: She's honestly just tired of running and sees this as an opportunity to start a new life. Plus, think of all the money she could earn from this job!

Why I want to play the game: I love all things Science Fiction (if the username hasn't already given it away). Throw in some exploration, monsters and the potential for very juicy political drama and that's hook, line, and sinker.

Tiffany

imgonline-com-ua-ReplaceColor-wUUba2Yp6x4Kb40U.jpg

Race interested in: Homo sapien (superhuman).

Profession: Sellsword.

Backstory: Tiffany is a genetically engineered superhuman grown in the vats of a hyper corporatist Drudge laboratory. Since her artificial 'birth' over twenty years ago, the chivalrous young knight unknowingly had a starring role as the protagonist of a macabre reality television show set on the exotic death moon of Misihiri. Terraformed by the producers to become even more of a hellish wasteland than it already was, she with a little behind the scenes help put a dozen seeded races and hundreds of nightmarish apex predators to the sword over it's continuous two decade unfiltered runtime as a savior of a human population kept in the dark ages. The series came to an abrupt end at the climatic season fifteen finale when she received a 'vision' that everything on the little moon was not quite as it seems and ruthlessly exploited a weakness in her lifelong prison to make a gory escape. Although supernaturally agile, remarkably strong, and a budding psionic, Tiffany is what one would consider uneducated when compared to most of the universe's more privileged citizens despite being a scholar of some renown on her 'homeworld'. This ignorance of technology would have resulted in her almost immediate capture had it not been for a smuggler hiring her on as his personal enforcer in exchange for safe passage out of the system. Months later after living between mercenary contracts, she heard an advertisement for the Calypso, and now seeks to apply as a crew member for the fresh start it represents. She's a decent cook, a capable blacksmith and craftswoman, a skilled hunter, and an expert survivalist when it comes to the hotter climate death worlds of the universe from their similarities.

Motivations: To leave her past behind, and to do everything in her power to protect the crew of the Calypso on their great odyssey through the stars.

Why I want to play the game: I haven't done very many science fiction roleplays at all, and usually, this being no exception to the norm, they have intriguing as hell premises and undoubtedly awesome plot to follow.

Name: Jainor Mahatye
Race: Psilon
Profession/Skills: He is an engineer, but also is, in heart, a scientist.
Backstory: Jainor tested as an engineer. He was bright even by Psilon standards, and he studied without relent, often going two to three days with little to no food or water. Because of his increased pace, he managed to learn much about science and was moved to a research facility to study more. There he downloaded much of the library into a sort of documenting machine, which can produce holograms. It is his favorite possession. A few years later, the Controller offered him the opportunity of a lifetime, and he took it.
Motivations: Wants to document phenomena and anomalies in the next quadrant to bring back the information to his people.
Why I want to play the game: It seems interesting, and scifi is fun to explore.

Agent Shiva

Race(s) interested in:
Darloks

Profession:
Security and Intelligence

Backstory:
Not much is known about Shiva even amongst the records of the Shadow Council. All they knew is that she is one of their most exceptional agents and she will do anything to ensure the completion of her mission. She grew up doing covert missions and assassinations, surrounded by secrecy and blood. Any enemy of the Council that she was assigned met a secretive death, with a few gruesome ones to deliver a message. She was assigned to the Megaship Calypso by the Council to ensure the completion of the mission, protect the ship and its assets from internal and external threats, and to keep everybody in the ship in check.

Ruthless Pragmatism. Artemis is one of the best agents of the Shadow Council known for having no room for failure.

Motivations:
To discover the unknown and complete the mission assigned to her.

Why I want to play the game:
Any Beck game is a good game. I have also been thirsting for a good Sci-fi RP for a while now.

Zeno

Race(s) interested in:

Meklar

Profession/Skills:

Scion / Ambassador / Zealot

Backstory:

As a worshiper of the prolific technological deity, Uton, Zeno is divinely charged to spread the good news of his sovereign's emminence across known (and unknown) space. Armed with his faith, and a technologically superior frame, Zeno will let nothing stop him from executing his Lord's will...

Born destitute on a trash heap of a planet, Zeno -- then the humanoid Hupert Pyan -- was destined for a life of humble beginnings, and even humbler ends. An industrial dumping world, one of the many owned by Drudge-funded corporations, Hupert's home was the repository of many of the neighboring systems' trash, waste, and industrial run off. The people of Hupert's world made a living by scowering these droppings for anything of moderate value that could be repurposed and sold. One day while out searching for ores in the Dump, Hupert was caught in a trashslide and lost his arm, crushed beneath the frame of a once-in-style luxury landsloop. He was left in a makeshift sickbed for days, dirty wrappings stymying the bleeding from the putrid stump where his arm had once been.

It came to Hupert as he lay there, as if a dream, whispers of technological marvels beyond his wildest imaginings, and of a god within the machine. His throat now full of the good tidings, Hupert leapt from where he lay and escaped his home aboard a craft, course set for Drudge merchant worlds to deliver its cargo. Venturing forth from the squalor of his home-world, Hupert followed the signs, eager to learn more about this phantom lord that had called him by name.

Eventually, his pilgrimage lead him to the homeworld of the machines, and within their temples, shedding his mortal vestments, Hupert was reborn as Zeno. Muscle and bone gave way to steel and coiled wire. His brain, downloaded, became one with Uton. All at once, His will was illuminated, and with it, Zeno's life -- his new life -- was given purpose beyond anything he could have imagined. He was to lead Uton's faithful into yet-uncharted territory. The whirring of machines whispered of a voyage into the beyond, and of Zeno's place aboard the vessel. Zeno, his passage booked, his transport to the Federation's shipyard procured at the speed of thought, and armed with the sword and shield of his Faith, had only to reach out and accept his Sovereign's will, and his new life would begin in earnest.

Motivations:

To spread the religion of Uton across the cosmos.

Why I want to play the game:

I am interested in all things Sci-Fi (always looking for new recommendations)! And I love a good ensemble cast, a motley crew, an unlikely band of heroes (or villains)!
