Space crash landing anyone?

This will be my first role play on RpN and I'm hoping to start a 1x1 to get things going. This is a new idea and while I do have some details that aren't written here, I prefer 1x1s to be collaborative projects with my partner. Of the two characters described below, I can play either. This role play will be a adventure/romance along with whatever genres we decide we want it to be as we go. The pairing will be malexfemale, and again, I can do either.

92 years after the fourth world war in 2201, Earth is little more than a fairy tale, documented in forgotten digital libraries. After their home planet was ravaged by radiation and mutation, what remained of the human race fled to a gargantuan space craft designed to sustain hundreds of thousands of people. Over the years, one ship evolved into a great fleet, and with no capability to perform war in such limited space (until recent years), human population rocketed.

A military or police officer of some kind (specific character details to be determined by whoever plays them) is responsible for catching and returning a high profile criminal who has escaped on a ship. After he or she catches the criminal, their ship is caught in a type of energy storm and sent far off course where they crash land on an unknown planet (the first our characters ever touch). This could either be Earth where they explore the apocalyptic conditions left behind (or discover life and renewal?) or an entirely alien planet that might have its own species and cultures. The plot will be the growing relationship between the officer, who refuses to give up their mission of bringing the prisoner back, and the criminal who has to fight against his/her captor as well as his/her feelings for them, as well as their fight for survival. Conditions regarding the possibility of repairing the ship and getting home can be discussed with whomever responds. Along those same lines, the specific culture that our characters will have come from and that of whichever place they find themselves in can be detailed later. My preference is a male officer and female prisoner but that isn't set in stone.

Since this is going to be my first writing attempt in months I'm looking to keep it fairly casual. I don't actually know yet what to expect from myself but I guarantee a paragraph or more each post. And just FYI, my earliest posts are often longer than normal in order to set up the story.

That would be great! Before we delve into the details, can we sort out the characters? What's your preference for which role is male or female and are you more interested in playing one or the other?

I'd like to be a male officer if you're good with being the female prisoner? :)

Actually let me change that. I think I'll start with a female character in which case I'd be the prisoner. But if you'd rather be the prisoner then that's fine too.

Yeah, I could be the male officer of male prisoner if you want. Not that good at rping females if I'm honest.

If it doesn't matter at all to you then I'll be the female prisoner and you will be the male officer. And yeah, I clicked on your profile and saw you were a guy and thought it would be kinda odd if I played the male and you the female. In my experience guys mostly just like role playing guys. And like I sort of mentioned above, it might be easier for me to readjust to role playing if I play my own sex. I automatically went with the male character first because that's honestly what I'm used to, since so many role plays out there have way too many girls.

So with that out of the way, do you have any basic ideas for laying the foundation of the plot? This could be regarding the culture of modern humanity, the planet they land on, or whatever else. And specifically, do you want it to be Earth or a different planet? My original idea was actually aliens landing on a post apocalyptic Earth, then it morphed into post apocalyptic humans landing on an alien planet, but it could be a mixture of both.

Ah yes. This is were I'll come in handy. I've actually had the idea of humanity fleeing Earth in giant space craft for a while, so I've got somethings already good to go.

Modern human culture- Humanity has been aboard these ships for centuries, so many are familiar with ship repairs and piloting to some extent or another. As the fleet grew, each ship soon turned into its own sort of city state, with differing values, cultures, and trades. Ex: one could have turned into a sort of NAZI fascist society while another a more country agriculture based one.

The ships have so far not been at full on war, as that would destroy a portion of the remaining humans' genetic diversity as well as the loss of any goods that are needed by the everyone. For example, not even the aforementioned NAZI society that wants pure control of everything would attack the agriculture society, as that would lead to fleet wide famine. Mostly, groups stick to their own ships or covertly try to change other societies from the inside out.

When it comes to marriage, ships often send bachelors and bachelorettes out to a common ship, one which is usually neutral and too important for any other group to attack. On these ships, the bachelors and bachelorettes meet up and find who they will spend the rest of there life with before returning to one of the couple's home ships. Sometimes it takes several outings to find a match. Sometimes a bachelor or bachelorette will not find someone and will not go back to their ship, but stowaway on the common ship, which is highly illegal.

How is this so far?

That's all good. The last part concerning marriage, however, is a bit contradicting. Since each ship (or group of ships) is its own society I expect that they will all develop their own views concerning marriage. I think it's highly unlikely that with such a difference in opinion regarding other matters, marriage customs would not be very different throughout distinct sections of the human empire (empire?).

The city state idea is very interesting. To expound on that, I expect each separate city state would expand into multiple ships. Those that are more independent of the initial government might have an entire fleet in order to protect themselves (since preparing for war is the natural progression when there are multiple sovereign nations).

Should there be a central government or should each city state be absolutely sovereign? Without a central government war is highly likely to break out at any moment, but with a central government a rebellion is also possible. So basically peace will never last. Not that that will have any impact on our plot. :P

So here's some details. Feel free to improve and correct.

Centuries after the fourth world war in 2201, Earth is little more than a fairy tale, documented in forgotten digital libraries. After their home planet was ravaged by radiation and mutation, what remained of the human race fled to a gargantuan space craft designed to sustain hundreds of thousands of people. Over the years, one ship evolved into a great fleet, and a great fleet became many. Humans naturally divided themselves by preferred lifestyle, and each small faction grew into a culture of its own. In a similar custom to Earth, each fleet demanded its own sovereignty and form of government. Unlike on Earth, however, no one was willing to act on aggression lest their fragile existence in space were to be extinguished.

Now in 2625, the human empire is divided into more than thirty unique city-states. While one may devote its time and research to the provision of food, another is known for its advances in medical technology. At present, all are at peace.

Anything else we need in an overview? Feel free to take it and edit and add, or completely redo it. I don't really care.

Lastly, what faction should our characters have originated from? Should the officer be police, military, FBI-type thing, etc.? Should they both be from the same place? Differing cultures could add to the conflict between them.

On the marriage thing, I was more putting that in as to allow the people to avoid inbreeding and to increase its ships genetic diversity. After all, humanity pretty much had to restart with only a few hundred thousand people, and that is at the low end of the population needed for stable genetic descendentry. But yeah, I was just giving a general 'this is how most do it' type thing. Pretty sure the NAZIs have a plan for a pure race.

Anyway, I think something we should spend time on would be what technology we have. Are the ships aesthetically pleasing and hyper advanced with lasers and plasma cannons, or are we old fashioned with rail gun and strictly functional metal grey designs?

For the characters, how about the officer be a guard at one of the trade hangars, perhaps at an agricultural ship. On one of those, the population would probably be against stowaways and thiefs, as they would deal with it a lot, especially from ships that are under oppressive rule. Your character could be a stowaway from one of those, could be NAZIs, communist, any oppressive group that you could think of really. Or just a poor person from any ship really. Maybe you are from a ship that focuses on building other ships or one that is a mining platform. You decide that.

I think it's definitely a good idea for young adults to travel to other ships in order to avoid inbreeding, but maybe less of a formal "it's that time of year, go and meet your husband" and more of a, "go spend a couple weeks on this trip where there should be people from several different places altogether."

What do you think about a mixture? The rich ships will have access to newer technology and therefore be able to upgrade to more efficient and aesthetic designs while more down to earth cultures, such as agriculture or textile might have more old fashioned ships like that first one.

I like the idea of my character being from a shipyard type ship. She'll have had a somewhat bleak childhood and grown up as a petty criminal. She'll have a good black market network set up by the time she's an adult and will buy and sell stolen technology. She's on the run from some elite society's police force and when she's found by your character's people they recognize her and she steals a ship and escapes and your guy comes after her in his own?

What about where they crash? What are your thoughts on that?

Yeah, that's more of what I had in mind for the whole marriage trip thing.

As for the mixture, what about more towards that the large ships, the one with the majority of the population / production ability remain the old design, as it would be easier to produce and upkeep, while the smaller ships, such as shuttles, fighters, defenders, and probes have the newer design, as they can be more easily produced and easier to incorporate the technology into?

I just had an idea for your character. She is, like you said, black market and deals in illegal goods and technologies. Right now she has a plan to make a literal ship load of cash by selling illegal drugs, but to do this, she needs a certain device that can rearrange the molecules in matter to make different chemicals. This is, unfortunatly for her, only on the agriculture ships and are used for maker fertilizers and the such. So, she 'signs up' for one of the annual meet and greets for potential spouses that is being held on one of the farming ships. There she breaks off from the group and steals the synthesizer and almost makes it out when my character, who is a guard that is charged with watching the potential couples for stowaways or sabatouers, runs across your character as she enters the shuttle she's about to steal. A brief confrontation happens inside the shuttle, the people who were after you show up, you launch it and one of us accidentally activates whatever form of faster than light travel we have, and we crash land on the planet.

As for the planet, I'm good with either the alien planet, cause alien biology is freaking cool to make up, or perhaps the post apocalyptic Earth, but maybe the aliens are colonizing it after we left?

Oooh I like it. All of it. Ill work on the character bit once we're done world building. I say we stick with a completely fictional planet so we dont have any restrictions. That makes it a little bit simpler.

do you have any ideas for the planet yet? Im too tired to keep putting all my thoughts into words but if you have anything youd like me to build off of then i can roll it around in my head and post it all tomorrow. Otherwise...ill do the same thing but wont have anything to build off of. :P

Yeah, I'll be hittin the sack in a bit, but I just had an idea for the planet and how it could be Earth yet not restricted to anything really Earth specific, except gravity and that such thing. What if we crash land and its teeming with alien jungles and full of alien life. We even see the aliens that occupy this world. For all intents and purposes, we believe we are on an alien planet until we stumble upon an ancient ruin. One that is of human origin. Turns out the alien planet were on is actually Earth, but it has been terraformed and inhabited by the aliens and their home planet species so that it barely even resembles its old self.

Hey! I ended up taking care of four kids for the day so never got a chance to write much down but I'm going to spend some time on that now. :)

Any living things that require time near or above the surface of the Earth will have become extinct at the time of the war or shortly thereafter. Some deep sea creatures or strange beasts (we could make some up) from deep within the Earth would have survived. Below ground monsters would have emerged eventually and maybe some of the sea creatures could have evolved to make their way onto land at least partially.

To shake things up, we could destroy specific land masses or have new ones emerging due to some great upheaval of the planet's core, either a side effect of aliens terraforming or just a natural progression. Some examples would be to crush both North and South America into one big continent, sections from perhaps Europe or Africa were broken up by volcanoes and have become a large area of volcanic wasteland, strange ice formations someplace that normally doesn't see much cold.

We could completely disrupt the climate. With new world geography, both sea and air currents would change. Obviously figuring that out would be getting pretty technical so we can just make up whatever we want within reason.

I think some humans should have survived. Perhaps a small group in Antarctica (where humans would have just started focusing on colonizing as they ran out of space elsewhere, but then got interrupted by the war) managed to hole themselves up and survive. I think this would be plausible because of extreme weather conditions they were required to circumvent. With very limited technology (they may have started as an advanced civilization but with so few resources and no connection to the rest of the world they would have declined pretty quickly I bet) it would take a very long time, centuries, for them to strike out for other continents. At the point of our role play there could be just a couple human colonies in lower portions of continents. Humans would be very different from today since they would have to adapt to the cold quickly. Large, thick bodies, lots of hair. Bunch of yetis! xD

Anyway, what are your thoughts on how many races should have arrived on Earth and how technologically and biologically advanced they are? I'm actually more of a world builder (my favorite parts are geography and history) and you seem to like making the people themselves, so I'd leave most of that to you if you like. I thought maybe a less advanced species could have found Earth first and done just a bit of terraforming before a more advanced species arrived and became the dominant race. They could allow the lesser species to have certain areas to govern themselves and maintain their culture.

I'd like to know what you think about the alien races before I come up with more details on flora, fauna, geography, etc. so I can build around them. That as well as your opinion on everything else. :P

Quick question: Once we've got a basic idea for Earth's new geography, do you like the idea of having a collection of landscape images we could refer to? During the role play we could find an image for some of the places our characters find themselves and add to it as we go. These could include technology, flora and fauna, people, and whatever else.

To the quick question, I would have to say yes. That would be great.

Now for the aliens that colonized, I have several ideas. The first species to arrive was the one to terraform most of the planet to suit their needs, however, they are still in the tribal stage. The reason for this is that the form of FTL they use is different from ours. So instead of creating a bubble of space around their craft that makes light go faster, thus making the ship go faster, they rip a hole to another dimension and travel that way. It is quicker than our FTL, however there is a huge drawback. Nothing living can survive inside of that dimension, so instead of sending colonist and living specimens to colonize worlds, they send a fleet of robots whose job it is to terraform the world, use stored genetic samples to create flora and fauna, as well as there own species. This does have the downside of having them have to restart from tribal stages each time they colonize a world, but ultimately, they are by far have the most colonized planets. Right now they are far flung tribes that have varying cultures and traditions.

In physical appearance, they are humanoid saurians. They stand on average at 7 foot tall. The females can be determined by a longer and patterned tail as well as a more husky musculature, while the males are much more agile and streamlined in shape.

In the majority of their culture, the male is the dominant hunter, as being more agile tends to allow them to better keep up with their prey. The females look after the villages and young ones, as their larger size, while making them stronger, makes them too slow to effectively hunt, as they are more suited to defending. They have recently moved into the agricultural stage, this they have small farms. The dominant religion, which is suprisingly found throughout most of the tribes, maybe as the robots are programmed to pass that information out any way possible, talks about a great being that created the universe from nothingness and would offer them eternal life in his domain of they follow his tenets and believe.

Ok, how is this first race?

Here is a picture I found that is similar to the design idea I had.

Looking good! So most of the terraforming will have been done by this species?

What of the second (if you agree about having two)?

And thanks Revan!

Yes, most of the terraforming will have been done by this species, so more tropical forest and plains than your average Earth.

The second species is one that stumbled onto Earth just a few years before we show up. Like the previous species, they do not have our form of FTL, nor do they have the other kind either. They instead rely on wormholes that connect one location to another throughout space, so their colonization is tied to where the wormholes lead. This causes their colonies to more resemble a connect the dot picture than the other species, whose colonization map is more of an area of influence. This species has yet to run in to a habitable world and has had to make do with building self contained structures on planets and in space to spread. Seeing as this is the first garden world they have found, they want it bad. So far they only have one city set up, but it is HUGE. Twice the size New York City.

Physiologically, they are very stout creatures at 5 feet tall and have incorporated technology into their very bodies. They have two legs and four arms, though the lower pair of arms usually are used either for heavy lifting or to help while walking. The upper arms are more for manipulation and light work. They really have no head to speak of, as it is joined with the torso. They have six eyes, and a keen sense of smell, though they lack in hearing. There are no differences between the males and the females other than genitalia.

Their culture has been nearly wiped out by their fascist government, instead indoctrinating them into a culture of subservience to the high rulers of their government. Any rebellion is squashed by their all seeing Big Brother and regulator chips implanted at birth prevent any negative thoughts toward their current situation. As befits with their 'culture', they have taken to enslaving the species that had terra formed their planet for hard labor in the mines, fields or factories. Their technology also was confirmed towards the fascistic regimes views, focusing on surveillance, control of the population by cybernetics, and crude but effective weaponry, such as the flame shot, which shoots molten slag in a wide area. Overall, they have no sense of family, identity, or self. Except for those at the highest reaches of power.

How is this race?

And what about names for the two we have?
