Rill was staring at the suddenly animate statues in wonder, her mouth slightly open when the one attempted to grab her. Startled, she leapt backwards managing to stay just out of the automaton's grasp. A flash of movement let her know Cerin was receiving the same treatment, but she wasn't sure whether or not he had been grabbed, being rather preoccupied with maintaining her own ungrabbed status.

"Micha!" she shouted, her voice surprisingly steady despite the circumstances. "We could use some help here. Grab Mara and get over here, NOW!"

Micha looked to Mara with a slight smile still on his face. "It's cool!" he noted. Internally, he wasn't sure whether he could carry someone for that long of a term. His eyes flitted up toward the treetops that obfuscated the view of the sky above him, wishing briefly for rain. Of course, he wouldn't say that to Mara. "Maybe we could stretch out those water bottles, or tie a bag around a branch or someth-"

"Micha! - We could use some help here. Grab Mara and get over here, NOW!"

The call for help rang through the forest air, cutting off most of the harpy's thoughts as his eyes shot in the direction that Rill and Cerin had travelled. His eyes opened wide - there was a hint of sheer urgency in her voice, and in an instant he knew it was serious. "Guess it's going to be sooner rather than later." he said, voice low as he tried to keep calm. He grabbed Mara's bag, zipping it and throwing it over his front just as soon as she was done grabbing her items from it. His bird-like foot cinched around the strap of his own duffelbag. When he had everything ready, he moved to assist Mara. He couldn't exactly grab her with his talons, so he offered his back.

"Hop on my back." he said. As soon as she did, his wings would stretch out and beat the air around them, rustling the grass in their area and disturbing the forest akin to Rill's yell for help. They'd take off high enough to get them off of the ground, but low enough not to disturb the treetops that had assaulted Cerin previously.

"We're coming!" Micha called out.

Mara would’ve tossed her back down beside her in a bit of defeat, about to respond to Micha that the water in the bottles most likely wouldn’t be enough even if rationed out when Rill yelled for her of all people. How could she possibly help in any situation right now?

Curious nonetheless, she would’ve waited for the harpy to offer his back as she awkwardly hoisted herself up onto it, throwing her arms over his shoulders. With that he would take off, the woman nearly slipping off with a yelp, but managing to keep her grip firm enough to stay put.

Then the scene came into view.

Her eyes widened at the sight of the pond and statues they were fighting, it being instantly clear why they wanted her over here. “I don’t think being placed in unknown bodies of water is a smart idea!” Her concern was more than visible, and for good reason. The last thing she needed was to suffocate in a pond with various unknown substances, if they didn’t saturated her bloodstream and kill her first.

Janus, silently brooding to himself as his team argued about this and that, thought that there wasn't much trouble Rill and Cerin could get caught up into if they stuck close enough to the rest of the team. He was obviously wrong in this judgement since now there were shouts for them to bring Mara over to where they were, and not in a positive tone. Why the hell they'd shout for the bird to bring the fish into the trouble when she wasn't even able to stand was insanity.

He growled out in frustration and swiftly moved towards the trouble, covering the harpy's back and witnessing Mara struggle to hold on while they moved. When they reached the feline and elf, two statues were acting aggressively, a third just standing there with an unsettling expression. Janus knew this would drain him, shortening their time before he'd have to portal them all out or leave them stuck here, but he generated a portal, trying to capture the statue, only for the statue - which he assumed would have been slow and clumsy - to evade it.

"Shit," he muttered. He wasn't going to waste more time or energy trying to portal them to a high altitude and then dropping them, they'd all have to just find some other way to stop the unnatural statues.

Lacily had opened her mouth to protest when Micha began to carry off Mara to where Rill had shouted. It was already too late and the duo was charging off into who knew what danger along with Janus. "I swear," she began, but didn't continue. She grabbed what she could that had been left behind and raced towards the rest of her team. She slowed her movement the closer she got to the fight and honestly her first thought was 'Just perfect, living statues.'

Her weapon was going to be fairly useless right now, at least against the two who were already engaged against Rill and Cerin. She'd risk injuring them if she tried to attack the statues there, so she looked towards the third statue which wasn't doing much of anything. Or it hadn't and was now moving to leap across the pond towards Micha and Mara. Lacily dropped everything in her hands and pulled out an intricate and large hand fan. She moved the fan with a bit of flourish and a blasting gale sent the third statue flying backwards and away from Micha and Mara.

Cerin-Blair.png

"I fucking hate being right sometimes."

Cerin managed to dodge the grasping hands of the statue at first. He was naturally agile, and stone wasn't known for being particularly fast. What got him in trouble was when he tried to attack. His foot caught on a root and he wound up stumbling forward, right towards the statue!

Thinking quickly, he wrapped his Kusarigama around his body just as the statue grabbed him. Even with the chains keeping some of the pressure off, he felt like he'd be crushed if he stayed too long. Willing his Kusarigama to expand around him. the chains pushed against the statue's strength until, all at once, the pressure released and Cerin slipped away.

Narrowing his eyes, Cerin could see cracks forming by the shoulders of the statue that were caused, no doubt, by his escape.

A grin spread over his lips as he threw both ends of the Kusarigama at the statue, striking right at those cracks and, with a crash, separated the arms from the body. "There.... Now it looks like classic art." Cerin snickered, spinning the kusarigama in one hand as he kept his eye on the statue to see what it would do after being sufficiently...... dis-armed.....

The statue that Cerin had destroyed the arms of was no longer smiling, the facial featured twisted into a silent fury at the bodily destruction. It charged at him, trying to slam into his body hard. The one that had been trying to go for Rill turned its attention to Mara, changing it's target and now going in to try and grab the vulnerable merwoman from off of Micha's back. The third statue that had been blasted away was already returning, it's target now having changed to Cerin, it's arms reaching to grab at him roughly.

Janus watched as the team battled, seeing the arms be destroyed by Cerin after a few good hits. It meant that they were are tough - or weak - as stone. Whacking at it with swords and arrows would be useless and just further enrage them. What they needed was a large sledge hammer, where was that stupid old dwarf agent when you needed him?

They could use their guns perhaps. Janus pulled out one of his own, taking aim at the face of one of the statues that had the least chance of resulting in injury to one of the team members. It was a long-shot that shooting out their eyes would result in loss of vision, but he would try, only to fail as the statue ducked down as it barreled towards Cerin.

"We've got to break them apart somehow," Lacily called out. She couldn't use her fan here and she wasn't strong enough to break a statue with strength alone. "Cerin, Micha you're going to have to beat the statues into rubble, everyone else is to support them. Evade their attacks, I have a feeling a hug from them might be like getting wrapped by a powerful constrictor."

Lacily put her fan away, she'd be able to grab it out quickly should there be an opportunity. Seeing as two were going for Cerin, Lacily went to try and engage and support the feline target, hoping the others would be able to manage on their own.

So now there were two after him? Fine by him! Cerin smirked, he easily avoided the reaching grasp of the one with arms, but he was knocked backwards when the unarmed one just came barreling into him. On a reflex, he swung his Kusarigama at the target, but it fell over from its own momentum and was spared destruction. Narrowing his eyes, Cerin rolled with his fall and came up back to his feet as the armed one moved towards hiim. "Okay... No more Nice kitty...." Cerin charged forward, kicking off a tree as he threw his Kusarigama, the chain and blade wrapping around the neck of the one that still had arms.

Landing behind the statue, Cerin smirked. "Off with your head!" He called, giving the chain a pull, the blade digging a groove as it was dragged around the statue's neck until at last he gave a final tug and the head was separated from the torso to land face down.

"Now let's see how well they operate minus a head!" Cerin snickered, keeping his ears perked up in case the armless wonder managed to somehow get up or if the third statue decided to also go after him. The curse of curves, honestly. Everyone wanted a piece of him. Oh well, such was the curse of being a sexy beast.

Rill observed the sudden flurry of motion and blows as she backed away from the statues. The rest of the team had arrived at her yell, though only Lacily seemed to be effective at attacking the statues as she produced an odd fan that produced a miniature gale strong enough to blast one of the statues off its feet. Cerin had finally failed in his attempts to avoid the statues grasp, though at the last second his odd weapon coiled about his body, seemingly protecting him somewhat from the statue's crushing grip. Suddenly the coiled chains expanded, forcing the statue's grip apart enough for Cerin to slip free. A blur of motion, and one statue was suddenly minus its arms.

"There.... Now it looks like classic art." Cerin snickered.

Janus had drawn his pistol, but his shots went wide as the statues continued to move with a speed that belied their seeming bulk. Indeed, Cerin managed to dodge one statue, only to have the one he had, disarmed, charge into him, knocking him off his feet. His weapon flashed as he fell, but statue itself fell, the chains whistling ineffectively over its head. As Cerin bounded to his feet, turning his attention to the first he had dodged, Rill jumped over to straddle the back of the fallen, armless statue. Drawing her knife, she reversed her grip and struck down with the pommel, trying to strike the hip joints. Unfortunately, the statue seemed to be taking the loss of its arms in stride, wriggling like a snake as Rill struck. Rather than striking the statue, her blow hit nothing but dirt as the statue rolled away. Before she could recover, the statue reversed its roll and off balance from the missed blow, Rill could do nothing but stare in horror as her right hand vanished under the statue. It continued its motion, and Rill cried out in pain as her right foot and calf joined her right hand under the heavy stone. She managed to just halt its motion with her left leg and hand, but her right arm and leg remained pinned, the statue having rolled half way to her knee and elbow.

"Could use a bit of a hand here," she gasped. "This damned thing is heavy."

Her hand and foot were quickly going numb as the weight of the stone cut off the circulation to the pinned extremities. She hoped there wasn't any more serious damage that shock was preventing her from feeling.

Micha had brought Mara too close into the fray, gaining the attention of the enemy. The Micha moved to try and avoid Mara from being grabbing from his back, only for the merwoman to let go to fall five feet to the ground with a thud. The statue that had been going for Mara missed it's target and it landed awkwardly onto the ground, covering its body is cracks and fractures.

As Cerin decapitated one of the statues, the body stopped moving entirely and seemed to return to that of being a completely normal statue; stone frozen in time. Lacily moved to attack the one that had failed in its attack on Mara, using her fan to force a gust of wind to knock it into one of the trees. The impact shattered the statue into rubble, leaving only the armless statue left.

Janus reloaded his gun and focused his aim at the statue's neck, shipping away at the stone until the head was not longer attached and fell to the ground and rolled with wide eyes.

"Aggressive trees and now violent living statues, this forest is probably going to get much worse," Lacily commented as she put her fan away. "Any injuries to report that need to be tended to?" She looked around at the team to see if anyone had been grievously harmed. They seemed a bit battered and bruised, Rill seemingly the worst injured as Janus moved over to help roll the body of the armless statue off her appendages.

It was then that the odd shimmering from the pong returned and spurts of water were aimed upward creating an odd looking fountain effect. The water spurts then took aim at Mara, trying to seem to soak the merwoman. Lacily tried to move closer to the pond, stepping cautiously since she wasn't sure what to expect and got a direct hit of water sprayed into her face, leaving the elven woman with an unamused expression.

"Well, at least the pond doesn't seem to be able to do any harm besides soak us," she commented dryly, using the back of her sleeved arm to dry off her face. It would be at this point that the team could hear what sounded like giggling and whispers coming from the pond. Should Mara listen closely, she'd hear sweet lyrical voices telling her to come into the pond.

Mara let out a cry as she fell, the impact rather jarring, especially considering she didn’t have any way to break or control her fall. Stunned for a few moments, she only barely took notice of the statue before Lacily blew them away into a nearby tree.

With a groan she’d fall back onto the ground beneath her, running both hands down her face. This situation was absolutely wonderful.

The lights suddenly appearing in the pond caught her attention, the merwoman propping herself up on her elbows to get a look at the display. It was strange, but even more or so when it began to spurt water into the air, landing right on and soaking Mara.

I wouldn’t say that it’s a bad thing.” She’d comment after Lacily, a bit of relief heard in her voice. Saying the water didn’t feel somewhat refreshing would by lying.

Keeping her gaze focused on the pond, a small frown would tug at the corners of her lips. Nearly inauible voices were now originating from the body of water, and… they wanted her in the pond?

Forcing herself to sit up, she would listen with a strange look growing on her face. Entering an unknown magical pond at the call of an unknown group of entities was a horrible idea, but at the same time she could really use a soak and potentially figure out what the hell is going on...

With a reluctant sigh, Mara would speak up. “This… is an awful idea, but could someone help me into the pond?
