Who am I?
View media item 33144(or not...)

Hi guys! My name is SkyGinge (though most people call me either Sky or Ginge, I have no preference), and I am a 21 year old English Literature and Creative Writing student from the UK. I was a regular on this site about three years ago, which included being a Helper for a little while; before that, I'd been RPing for about two years on a very small gaming forum. In that time I've mainly ran and participated in group RPs, the most successful of which ran for seven months and spurned two reboots. When university began I stepped down from my position and stopped frequenting the site because of how busy student life is; I've been coming back over the odd holiday but unfortunately reoccurant health issues have meant I've had to pull out of things.

But now I'm back, and I'm interested in beginning a 1-1 or two as I still really enjoy just writing for fun like this and would like to be more intentional with my rest time by doing something I actually enjoy. I know from past experience that I won't be able to commit to a group RP now with the demands of university, but I should be able to cope with posting regularly in a 1-1 setting where I have less to read through! Though I've been RPing for almost six years, I have very little experience with 1-1ing, with only two failed attempts under my belt (the first time my partner wasn't really contributing anything, the second time my partner suddenly fell into really bad health :/) but am excited to start writing here again! :D

Some last details you should know: I'm a Christian, a massive motorsport fan and a gamer!

I Write...
...in 3rd person, past tense. Normally.

...on site, on threads. Making use of the site for what it was designed for!

...as mainly male characters. I do have a few female roles I'd like to play as you'll see but largely I prefer writing male characters, and only heterosexual romances.

I'm Looking For...
...somebody with ideas. When somebody's doing all the story's heavy lifting, it's not really a 1-1 at all. I want to build a story with you, collaboratively. Come with an interesting set of ideas for your character, and a willingness to engage with and put effort into the world-building, the plot and the dynamic. Don't just be an echo chamber!

...somebody who doesn't mind not doing romance. Often in these things a romance plotline makes sense as an extra source of tension and intrigue, so I don't mind having a romance element - just it won't be the focal plotline, and I'm not one of those guys coming into this explicitly want to play out lovey-doveyness with a pairing.

...somebody who can put in some detail. I don't like to put a specific word-count on things as it's dependent on the scenario. If you're introducing a new setting or writing some action sequences, I'd expect quite a few paragraphs of engaging description. If however all the post requires is for your character to respond to some dialogue, nobody needs a forced four-paragraph soliloquy about how my character's 'hello' reminded them of the dying words of their goldfish Gerry. Either way though I expect writing to be of good quality. Grammar should be good and character should be multi-faceted and not just a cliche cookie-cutter ctrl-c job.

...somebody committed. We've all had that experience where the other person seems really excited for like a week and then promptly disappear off to better and brighter things. Don't be that guy. Over the Christmas break I'll be able to post probably once a day, when we get a week into January I'll probably have to go down to once every two or three days and I'll expect the same from you. Again post frequency should be dependent on the post size - I don't mind waiting a bit longer for an extra-spicy supreme post, but don't really want to wait a week for a few lines of response.

...somebody who can be a friend. Somebody who doesn't mind sharing a bit of their life in this too and engaging in some OOC. Admittedly I'm not very good at this myself so will need encouragement, but I'd like to get to know whoever I end up writing with. Great communication means that we can be more understanding when illness or deadlines or whatever interfere with our posting schedule, or if we find our motivation lacking.

To give a taste of what my writing is like, here and here are some links to posts of mine from the last few years. I'd also like a link to an RP you've been in if you're interesting in writing with me! :D

With the practicalities out of the way, let's get down to...

The Ideas
What I'm really interested in is crafting a world and a story together - approaching it with a common interest and a few ideas of potential plot arcs/world details which we can then fine-tune before we leap in. With that in mind, you'll notice a lot of these ideas are quite vague at the moment, with the expressed purpose of us working on them together. Bold means a character I would play, italics a character you would play, and the stars () show how interested I am in each individual idea.

Fandom

I have a few fandoms I'm interested in doing stuff with. I'm pretty flexible with stuff but prefer to do something new within the world as opposed to using pre-existing characters.
Star Wars
The First Order has gone. With it, the Sith and Jedi orders of old. Guided by Luke Skywalker's force ghost, Rey and a redeemed Ben Solo have established a new order of force-users aimed at utilising the force in a balanced state and informing the sceptical universe of its existence. But fifty years of reformed democratic governance has soured the fledgling peace, and the political leaders remain fearfully opposed to the new force order in spite of their presence amidst the galactic senate. Vice-President Azaz is among their most vocal opponents, and is intent on covertly wiping out the new force order in a bid to claim power for himself. Our story begins with an assassination attempt in a desert citadel on planet Azulis which kickstarts a series of events which will lead to all-out war against proponents of the force.

My character would be a force user, a once optimistic woman who's faith in the balance of the force has been shattered by witnessing the murder of her master, one of the most famous and popular force users [we'd need to come up with a proper name for these force balance folks :P], at the hands of seeming bandits. You would have freedom of character but they would need to be somehow freshly entangled with mine.

I also wouldn't mind doing something set directly after The Last Jedi, or something between Episodes III and IV!

Doctor Who
The Doctor died, defeated seemingly once and for all believing he had failed to save the universe from the Daleks. Waking up on Earth as an all new regeneration, he meets a new companion. We would basically play through our own Doctor Who plot ideas (of which I have several), on an episodic basis.

Said episode ideas include:
-A fairly comedic earth-based one revolving around an invasion from incompetent aliens with invisibility technology.
-A deranged scientist trying to create the perfect life-form on an idyllic planet.
-A plague-era episode with plague-doctor monsters
-An epic conclusion

Pokemon: Dark Age A new and slightly dystopian twist on the world of Pokemon!
Long ago, mankind and Pokemon did not stand in unity. Humanity lives in walled protected cities in order to keep out wild Pokemon, who roam the outside world in fearful abundance. The only contact the two have is when, aged 16, every teenager is sent out into the wilderness in order to bond with a single Pokemon and attain the right of passage necessary to progress in society. Even then, society is unclear where the boundary is between treating these creatures as friends or slaves. The citadel holds many dark secrets, and when the next expedition is sent out, they make a startling discovery which may lead to the unravelling of their strict society, and the end of the walls...

Other General Fandom Interests:
-Something else with POKEMON
-ATTACK ON TITAN
using OCs.
-BOKU NO HERO/MY HERO ACADEMIA with either OCs or playing grown up versions of Deku and Uraraka, potentially with Bakugou thrown in for a good old love triangle.
Fantasy

Whilst I love a good fantasy, I'm generally quite picky with the specifics of it. I don't particularly like highly political fantasy, stuff with all the classical high fantasy races or modern supernatural stuff, though I might be swayed by an interesting idea. Generally I like my fantasy familiar yet fresh, with perhaps an interesting magic system in a recognisable setting, be that medieval or modern.
Valiance: Out of the Ashes Apocalyptic survival medieval fantasy with an elemental magic system, and a dark but tongue-in-cheek tone.
The island of Valia was once a thriving kingdom, pushing the boundaries of medieval technology through the study of magic and the protection of King Lyram the Light. But now, darkness has won. The Shadow King has engineered the assassination of the good king, his malicious forces laying waste to the land and massacring all who stood in their path. Now the ruined villages are filled with the silence of the dead. Nobody remains.

Nobody, save for a few happenstance survivors, dotted across the land. With danger at every corner, forced to hide and scavenge, they must now light the flames of rebellion against all the odds. With secrets hidden in the dark corners of the island, and something which challenges all understanding of magic buried deep beneath the ground, can they avenge their fallen people and bring justice to the fallen nation?

My character is an optimistic young wind mage with difficulties expressing his true emotions.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice Inspired by Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell - historical fantasy with a quirky, spell-based magic-system.
Edwardian London, 1912. Amidst the bustle of city life, the marketeers and industries sits a peculiar shop in which live an enigmatic man [YC]. Posing as a book-mender and collector of ancient texts, he secretly harbors a collection of occultist texts which allow for the performance of supernatural acts. With a plan up his sleeve to make magic public, he requires an apprentice - but when the only applicant for his mysterious plea is his former maid [MC], a peppy yet scatterbrained suffragette, he finds himself with more than he bargained for.

Some Kind of Modern Fantasy
I have no particularly solid ideas for this one, but would quite fancy playing a very ordinary and awkward young man who encounters a girl heavily entwined within some kind of magical stuff. I have a few vague ideas for a sleep-based or an elemental magic system but we'd be working from the ground up.

The Secrets of the Six Seas Steampunk fantasy adventure in a unique world with the potential to be a 4-writer story!
Long ago, six elemental titans were caught in a timeless clash. An eventual deadlock resulted in the destruction of the six beings, their bodies melding together into a sphere of life organised around six elemental seas. Above is Blist, the overworld of light; below is Aekra, the underworld of darkness. In the middle are the four central seas: Irrea, sea of fire; Licia, ocean of water; Tez, desert of sand; and Vequa, expanse of clouds. Each sea is home to a specialised species, whilst humans live on floating islands that spread above the central seas.

Our story begins in the Vequan city of Kael in the midst of a seasonal celebration, as four unlikely heroes end up forced together. An eccentric war-hero-turned-pirate. A rogue intent on stealing the local baron's rumoured treasure. The treasure herself; a noble girl with a magical gift beyond known understanding. And, drawn unwillingly into this mess, an ordinary and flustered librarian. Forced to become allies and thrown into a controversy far greater than they bargained for, can these heroes outrun the stern hand of the law and discover the dark secrets of the world?

If we keep this as a 1-1 we could double up on main characters, playing two each!

Romp Through the Procrasti Nation Comedic fantasy adventure!
When King Valiant Lee goes off to the annual king's warmonger convention, the kingdom of Procrasti is left in the hand of his petulant son, Cyril [MC]. So when a sly sorceress [YC] from a rival nation arrives to manipulate him into serving her evil plans, he completely lacks the discernment to disagree. Unfortunately for her, he's even more incompetent than he looks, and the quest that follows soon becomes a catalogue of errors, misunderstandings and hilarity. With fashion conscious trolls, apologetic thieves and much more, welcome to a world where the ridiculous is always likely to happen.
Futuristic

I'm a big sucker for a good dystopia! I'm not massively science-savvy so incredibly technical sci-fi doesn't appeal to me - however, I'm down for a good human space romp, or something in the near future exploring some kind of new technology!
Speculative Future What would the near future look like? What sort of conflicts might arise? Futuristic crime thriller.
What would the world look like in fifty years time? Let's brain-storm what future-technologies might have sprung up, and the new crime that might spring up. My character would be IP Rick O. Morpeth, an Investigative Psychoscoper, a troubled specialist investigator equipped with technology to interview the recently deceased; again you have freedom of character but they must somehow end up closely entangled in the investigation and in the life of my character.

Life Again Time-travel thriller with sci-fi elements.
The last thing you remember is the vacant pain of your death. But then, inexplicably, you wake up alongside another on a beach on a treacherous island where not is as it seems. The jungle is filled with horrific mutations, and atop a mountain stands a peculiar facility in which one might re-enter the passage of time. Recruited involuntarily by a mysterious time-twisting organisation, this duo find themselves sent across time on a quest to stop a rival organisation from rewriting history itself.

My character would be a jaded and difficult heir to a Victoria era estate.

Paradoxica Quirky university-set time-travel inspired by Steins;Gate.
In present day Cambridge, a genius but socially incompetent new student [MC] is about to discover time travel. What will follow is the rise to power of a shadowy organisation who will keep the world under their regime by wielding sole control of time travel. But when a resistance sect manages to secretly send a girl [YC] back in time to stop the creation of the time machine, her plan is disrupted as they experience an entirely new phenomenon which challenges their understanding of time itself and positions them against an unknown evil greater than their understanding...

The Day of Redemption Dark rural dystopia with high character stakes.
The world has fallen - not with a bang, but with a whimper. Faced with crumbling economy and desperate over-population, the west conquered its laziness, with dire circumstances. Former friends became factions, pillaging and looting in a survival of the fittest - soon it was kill or be killed, a world where only the nastiest survive. Centuries of civilisation were incinerated in a fire of anger, and the cities were left to waste.

But the disorder is yet to reach the furthest corners of the western world. On the secluded Scottish isle of Mull, the ailing local pastor [MC] continues to preach to an anxious village as supplies run dangerously low. His congregation few, his marriage in tatters and an illicit history behind him, his life is changed when a teenage girl [YC] washes up on the island shore, herself a complicated and traumatised figure. Their struggle against the elements is complicated by the arrival of a bandit faction who seem to want nothing but the girl herself. With dark secrets at every turn and the world against them, nobody is safe...

If you're interested in writing with me, please reply either on here or in PM, including a link to a previous RP you've been in. Also if you have a particularly interesting idea feel free to pitch it to me, though remember I am a picky man and so if I reject it it's not necessarily because it's a bad idea! Additionally I'm only looking for a couple of people due to my business, so I may well have to reject a fair few people - sorry about that, but I'd rather be fair in my commitment to a few than overcommit and let everybody down! I also have a few other character ideas/very basic plot/world ideas which I couldn't form into a decent pitch but am itching to use if the opportunity presents itself!

Looking forward to starting writing again!

I'd be interested in your Doctor Who idea : )

I've recently gotten back into the show (just started watching the 11th doctor) so I'm a bit rusty on any lore past David Tennant's doctor (10) but I love your idea! Pm me?

I've updated the first post with a few more ideas and clarification on a few things!

A aaaah and aurnia aurnia : Good to hear from you both; however, I did ask for you to include a link to a previous RP you've been in to get an idea of what your posting is like, so please comply with that before I consider your interest.

Currently I don’t have one to give you, since this is a new account and the last time i was here was a couple years ago... would you mind giving me a snipet of you writing (as the doctor would work nicely) that I could build mine off of? Like, in a pm or something.

Here's a sample from one of my rps.
Ms. Felicity Jill was born on March 10th. Since her biological mother couldn't take care of her, she was placed in a adoption center when Jill was only 5. Jill absolutely hated it. When she was 6, Jill was adopted by two loving parents. Ever since Jill was 10, she wondering if there every was a multiverse out there. This thought always appeared in her mind all the time. She asked her parents and they didn't know. Jill made a vow that she would eventually find out if the multiverse really exists. After many years of going to schools and college, she became an inventor. While Jill was in college, she found the love of her life and got married a few years later. They both were interested in the multiverse. After her college years, scientists found out the multiverse does exist, but they haven't find a way to travel to the multiverse. This motivated both Jill and her husband to make a bus that could travel around the multiverse. After a few attempts they couldn't seem to do it. Even worse, Jill's husband died in a car crash. Jill was very depressed, and she gave up on the machine and gave up inventing machines. While taking a stroll around the city's park. She decide to give the bus one last chance. Surprisingly, the bus worked, Jill was filled with joy. She decided to venture the multiverse and visit different dimensions. Maybe even make a few friends on the way. Who knows?

A aaaah : Thanks for posting that - however, I'm sorry to say I don't think we'll work as 1-1 partners due to our disparity in posting length/detail. Thanks for your interest anyway and I hope you find a fun collaboration with somebody else! :)

aurnia aurnia : Similarly, I'm afraid I'm not willing to start something up without prior indication of what your RP writing is like. I know everybody has to start somewhere but over my time on this site I've had an awful lot of new people join my stuff only to immediately drop out, plus without any indication of your style and writing I have little way to judge our suitability for writing together. Sorry - hope you find a great partner elsewhere!

In the mean time, I'm discussing plots with one person via PM but am still interested in starting up another story or two so if you're reading this thread now and interested then please do say!

Ah, I PM’d you and I understand if my vulgarity put you off, being a Christian, but I at least wanted to be rejected properly, not just ignored. :puff::puff:

Oh, good! I was so worried I’d offended you or made you so uncomfortable that you just didn’t reply. :puff: Take your time!

SkyGinge SkyGinge I understand if you still would like not to write with me, but I can give you a sample of my writing if that’s all your worried about- and on the topic of rpn ghosting, I hate it too. Like I stated in my previous post, I am not new here, I’ve merely decided to create a new account since my last is a year or two old, and I wanted a fresh start. I can still send you a sample of my writing in a pm if you’d like, it purely would just be a new sample, not one from a previous roleplay.

You seem like a decent writer and if you still don’t want to start up a roleplay with me that’s fine, but at least let me provide a sample for you to help you decide.

aurnia aurnia : In that case, any chance you can give me the name or link me to your old account? If it's been a good year since that last account also feel free to send me some of your new writing too, though of course writing for RP is a whole different kettle of fish to independent writing. Sorry to hold up so many barriers when at the end of the day we all want to just get down and write lol XD

Ok, first of all, Gerry was an angelic little goldfish so how dare you.

Second of all, why hello to you, too.

Third of all, before I get tired of this little gimmick, I'd just like to say that you liked one of my posts as I was reading yours. I'm not saying it's fate, but yeah it's fate. Don't try to fight it.

I'm a sucker for modern fantasy, so I'd like to develop that particular idea. I have about a few dozen half-baked ideas in my head. I'll run them through you in PM if you reckon we'd be a good fit.

A thing. Unfortunately said thing died, so it's like 2 pages long. I can provide other writing samples but they're mostly in PMs so if you need more I'll have to send you out-of-context posts.

Hello!

Since I'm a little scatterbrained early in the morning, I'm going to put this snippet here for you before I forget to do so.

I hope the day is treating you well! ^.^ I've just come back from a little hiatus due to the business of university. I am through the hardest part now (Yay!) and am looking to get back into writing as well.

I'm quite interested in some of your futuristic and fantasy plotlets and would love to possibly talk some of them over with you if I meet your standards. Above you'll find my writing example; that roleplay is still active (although it doesn't appear to be) as my partner has come upon some troubles of their own. I tend to vary my writing by my partner, but I'm really looking for someone that I can push myself with.

Lastly, if you've got any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Anywho, I'll stop talking and let you get on with your day. Thanks!
