As I'm sure you all do, I received a pile of junk mail and after sifting through it all i came across a brochure for a small town located in Maine. It promises a picturesque landscape, a relaxed and quiet environment and most importantly somewhere everyone can lose themselves. So I have taken it upon myself to book a couple of cabins for anyone who may be interested in a relaxing break. We can have a little celebration as well while we are up there.
There is no pressure for anyone to go but i'm just so proud of everyone that I wanted to give you all a gift. So for those of you who are interested, please stay behind after today's session and I can give you all the necessary details.
For many years Dr Elizabeth Spiers has worked to help those that have suffered great trauma's in their lives. Whether it be the loss of a loved one, remorse over causing the death of another or even something like brankruptcy. The fact is Dr Spiers has never turned anyone away, wanting to work with and help everyone and anyone she can. Given it has been a year since one of her groups started their process, she has decided to take them away for a long weekend in a remote cabin to get away from the noise of the city.the story
She searched for a few hours for various nearby small towns until she by chance came across a brochue amongst her businesses junk mail. While basic in its appearance, the pictures it showed were beautiful. Thick, forested hills flanked a small town, a beautiful river running through as the sun beamed down onto it. The picturesque nature of the place immediately overshadowed the basic nature of the flyer and with it, her mind was made up.
Those who accepted her offer now find themselves on a small bus on its way to the beautiful town she had discovered. A town called Silent Hill.
The bus leaves soon and if you are still reading this, I would hope that you want to be on it. Using the buttons on the left hand side you can work your way through the different sections of the interest check, including what the CS will be. This RP is first and foremost a safe space for all people no matter their race, gender or sexual orientation. All characters of all kinds are welcome and anyone with an issue around that needs to leave this page now.
Rule #2
Just to reiterate the warning on the left, this is a Silent Hill RP first and foremost so some of the topics, stories and imagery may be upsetting. If you have some triggers then please be sure that you will be okay in joining, the last thing I want is anyone being upset as a result of this RP.
Rule #3
I am not looking to kill off any characters (initially) but if someone is constantly trying to Leroy Jenkins everything that comes their way then they will find themselves on the receiving end of something nasty.
Rule #4
While I expect a basic level of writing skill, I'm not going expecting all participants to write ten thousand words for each post. Try to do a minimum of two to three paragraphs and i'll be happy.
Rule #5
I'll be happy with people posting once a week as a minimum although I would hope for maybe twice a week. On the flip side, if people could refrain from posting multiple times daily as a minimum, it'd be appreciated. From my experience it can be daunting to wake up to find two characters have posted thirty times while everyone else has been asleep.
Rule #6
Currently I'm still deciding whether the RP should take place on RPN, Discord or a hybrid of both. There will be a Discord regardless just for a social aspect, however, dice roll bots will be required.
- the fog
Silent Hill is synonymous with fog and even now on foggy days people will still reference the series. This RP will feature the fog in all external areas within the town's borders and will be so thick that characters will only have a decent vision up to around ten/fifteen metres. Beyond that they will be unable to see anything.
siren
As synonymous as the fog, the siren will also play a part in the RP. It will have the same effect as in the games, signifying key events including 'bosses' and the fading away of reality to the Otherworld. Those familiar with the games or films will understand what this is, but in terms of the RP the process will be like the film with reality peeling away like flakes of paint.
otherworld
Otherworld is a horrific and twisted, nightmare realm where the deepest and darkest recesses of a persons psyche can be made manifest. The horrors one can experience here go beyond simple monstrosities and transcend to true terrors from the very soul of those unfortunate enough to become trapped there.
The Basics
While I thoroughly enjoyed the first Silent Hill film I am looking more towards the themes of the games rather than the film. That being said, knowledge of the games or even the film are not required to take part in the RP.
There will not be a huge focus on what the town or Otherworld actually is. Instead it'll be focussed around each character and their trauma, facing it made manifest. That is the gist of what this RP will be.
There will be NPCs along the way and of course a rogues gallery of monsters. Also it wouldn't be Silent Hill without notes and puzzles.
infomythosThis won't be an action RP where people are tooled up with assault rifles and infinite ammo. More often than not people will be lucky to have a pipe let alone a gun.monsters
Even the most basic monsters can be tough and cause issues for people on a one versus one basis. That said, I'll be creating a beastiary at some point so people can understand the monsters appearance and capabilities. If a monster has a particular threat level I'll make hidden dice rolls to determine if someone is hit by it or if their weapon breaks for example. It's not going to be dice heavy but they will help make things a bit more unexpected.
Players can knock monsters down but can never freely announce their demise. In Silent Hill, just because something is down, doesn't mean it's finished. I'll be sure to say when something is finally finished although even then, there's nothing to say the town won't have other ideas.
Silent Hill is a small town but that doesn't mean it wouldn't take a long time to completely explore. When exploring areas people can take some liberties with what they find. For example you could have your character find a trinket. It could be nothing but I may also work it into the future.exploration
However if you want to try and find something of importance such as a weapon or medicinal aids then you need to declare your character is searching a specific part of the area. Whether you find something or not will come down to the dice gods but searching for these key items does come with inherent risk. If you search a cupboard you might fight a hatchet but you might also find a monster hiding in the cupboard. It really is a case of risk versus reward.
Silent Hill games are filled with puzzles and I'm going to try to replicate that in this RP. Like the classic PlayStation survival games, you'll find items that need to fit into slots to open doors and chests, but you'll also need to find keys and the like.puzzles
This, while making zero logical sense in the modern world, will help bring the Silent Hill staple to life...I hope.
Sometimes I'll straight up "borrow" puzzles from the games but I will also throw in a few homemade ones for players to suffer through.
