Futuristic Shadowrun: Exotic Enterprises OOC

Fenris

Howling Tempest
Overview of the 6th World:

jhtj4_vQ_400x400.jpeg
With the sudden reemergence of magic large parts of the world 'awakened', dragons took to the sky while hellhounds and devilrats began stalking back alleys. Some humans changed growing into orks or trolls while others where born as elves, dwarfs or even more exotic species. The world already ripe with conflict saw many governments collapse in the following chaos only for corporations to make a play, grabbing large swathes of land and standing up their own armies. It would take years to settle but by the time the most influential corporations will have established extraterritoriality, becoming global super powers in their own rights and the political landscape changed forever. Meanwhile technology did not rest, the matrix a worldwide computer network allowing users to interact with directly via neural interface spanned the globe, collapsed and was rebuilt. Cyber and bioware of varying quality was developed to fix, replace or augment the human body; throwing the shackles of human (or now metahuman) limitations.

Too maintain order and cement their control new governments and corporations introduced the SIN (System Identification Number) allowing them to track and monitor their populace. A SIN contains all information relevant to identifying individuals, allowing them to make everyday purchases, granting nationality and thus rights of their respective corp or gov; with the downside of 24/7 monitoring by said provider. Those born without or who have somehow managed to get rid of their SIN are ghosts in the machine, non entities possessing neither rights nor belongings as they simply do not exist as far as the corporate courts are concerned. This freedom makes them ideal assets for any kind of shady work the rich and influential don't want traced back to them. Thus the dubious business of shadowrunning was born.

The Races/Metatypes:
shadowrun_races_comparison_chart_by_dirkloechel-d8eqwrz.jpg
Humans: Still the most numerous species, do we really need a description here?

Elves: Often more slender than your average human; elves are well know for the pointy ears, longevity and natural charm/beauty. They have established their own territories in the US as well as Europe but are not unusual residents of many other corporations or states.

Orks: Slightly bigger and bulkier than most humans, orks are often a prime target for prejudice dismissing them as brainless brutes. While suffering from no form of metal drawbacks, the naturally gifted musculature and somewhat brutish look stemming from their protruding tusks as well shortened lifespan feed into the stereotype.

Trolls: Standing an average of just over 9ft (2.8m) and sporting both tusks as well as horns Troll's are one of the most easily spotted metatypes and often suffer from similar prejudice as orks albeit more pronounced. Their massive size can also make everyday life difficult as not all establishments are outfitted to cater to customers of these proportions.

Dwarfs: Sharing the elves longevity dwarfs are shorter and bulkier than the average human. They are stereotyped as crafty and hardworking due to fairy tales even if the average dwarfs attitude does not differ from a humans. However, they are naturally robust and often gifted with string determination.

Shadowrunners:

When conflicts arise that cannot be solved by legal means, the corporations, governments, wealthy individuals, and even organized crime will subcontract their dirty work to deniable specialists.

Shadowrunners fall outside the structured corporate world. Many are outcasts, having risen from the streets or fallen from corporate or government ranks. Their ranks include idealists and pragmatists, professionals and amateurs, disillusioned ex-corp/government/military personnel who have thrown off the shackles of corp society, and those who have never known any life outside the shadows. The one thing they have in common is that through necessity or by choice, they work in the shadows cast by the gigantic corporate buildings.

Archetypes: include but are not limited to
Street Samurai/Adept: Combatants of great skill that rely on technology or internal magic to overcome the opposition
Decker/Technomancer: Electronic warfare specialists (hackers), whom enter the matrix using cutting edge equipment or the very powers of their mind
Mage/Shaman: Casters that harness magic or call upon powerful spirits to do their bidding
Face/Sneak: Social engineers or infiltration specialists to whom no door is locked and no secret safe

Still working on hammering out some details but for now feel free to fire off questions or start to work on some characters. Are there any locations or settings in specific you'd like to visit during this rp?

Any opinions on the CS thus far? Too much/too little? Grittier with stats and specific equipment/cyberware/spells?

I'm fine with it, personally. Maybe a cyberware option, so that people can look up the various pieces themselves, and type in what their character has. I also think you should add somewhere that the more cyber and bioware a person's got, the weaker they become magically.

Good call on the cyber vs magic and how they don't mesh well. I'll try to expand on augmentations both magical and cybernetic and try to give a decent list of examples for each.

I'd go with more detail but then I'm sitting on a digital copy of the shadowrun game
Nice, I was planning to run this very freely and without much stats focusing on the interaction between characters and development; but a fair amount here are pretty well versed in the setting/lore and throwing some specific equipment into your CS.

I'm not pushing anything, if anything it just enriches my internal image. If people like it though then I'd be stoked for more book stuff.

Most comfortable with 5th ed. So 2077 sounds good. Though I really hadn't considered going that in depth. However, if you guys are all on the same page I'll brush up on the current events etc. and we can see how those impact the story and your oc's!

I am trying to hold of on going to detail heavy.

So I initially intended to start this off pretty casual but if everyone here is well versed or doesn't mind we can definitely go more in detail and stick to the setting more closely. I'd just rather not scare anyone off right away.
Personally I enjoy seeing detailed equipment and well thought out characters!

I'd personally love to go detail heavy. I planned on making a chromed out cyberzombie elf who got a wish from Dunkelzahn's will, so it'd just make my character even more interesting.

Cool looking forward to it. By all means include it as much detail as you like, I've just skimmed the will for the first time and realized just how many people are addressed...

I'm also trying to write up some more on common implants and magical traditions, though its going slow. From the look of things maybe next week/weekend would be a good time to kick this off? Any opinions?

My laptop has been smashed to f**k in a rather unpleasant incident.

I'll post tomorrow morning from work (beijing time). IC thread.

No worries, stuff happens! Here's to hoping the unfortunate incident end with you getting a shiny new laptop free of charge ;)

Got roped into doing some unexpected work as well, but the idea is to get a feel for each other and gradually move toward the meeting with Johnson. I'll try to get a post out tomorrow!

Sorry for not being active lately guys, been so busy moving that I didn't have time to mess with rpnation at all.
