Advice/Help Roles In a Small Special Ops Squad?

The Boneless

Roleplay Type(s)
Hello!
My fellow roleplayers, I need your advice on something and I hope you'll be able to help me.

I'm in the process of creating a roleplay inspired by Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, NBC's The Brave and Paramount's SEAL Team.
The roleplay's about Special Operations unit formed by either G7 or NATO, (not decided yet), meaning your character can be from any country that's a member. The unit will be called Ghost Recon because why the
fuck not?
I'd like to keep it to a small group of roleplayers which is why I've decided to go with a squad of six people.
- What roles would you have in a six-man-special-ops-squad?
All I have so far is Team Leader, Combat Medic and Marksman. I'm thinking maybe a Demo. Expert and a Tech. Expert but I'm not sure what would be most appropiate. Still need one more if I decide to add those two.
I'd like to play marksman, but is it fine to have another roleplayer do team leader even though I'm the GM?

The missions will obviosuly be suited for a smaller squad such as ours.

Any other advice is more than welcome! Thanks in advance! =)

Some sort of heavy weapons specialist maybe, but I feel like that could sort of fit with Demo as well. Then again, demo seems to be more explosions and such.

I went with this:
- Team Leader
- Demo. Specialist
- Tech. Specialist
- Combat Medic
- Intel. Officer
- Marksman

Just as you mentioned, I figured the demo. specialist could "double" as a heavy weapons specialist depending on the mission and so on. Thanks for the response!
Do you think it could work having a "non-GM" play the role of Team Leader as I'd much rather be marksman myself? =)

Yes, I think it's probably fine to have someone else play the team leader. Also, I am already considering joining this RP. Does seem like a type of thing I'd be interested in.

I'll give you one correction right off the bat, depending on the formation and where it's from, the US Navy Seals as example, never put officers into a frontline team, there are online resources that list these, if you want to trust this link, this PDF details how the Army does it, which handles most Special forces operations in the US Armed Forces and oversees SOCOM. https://irp.fas.org/doddir/army/gta31_01_003.pdf

A URL that does much the same if you rather trust it Operational Detachment Alpha (ODA): Main operational element of Army Special Forces

Now some nations do it a bit differently, with some officers of junior rankings being in the team, though typically not above the rank of Captain, and even then the most well known example is Russia with its GRU, which is heavily based upon the former Soviet GRU, where it's lower ranking officers did what is seen as NCO work in Western Forces.

So depends on the nation, also a Squad Sniper isn't really needed. Now this is just if you want to get nitty gritty on the details. If you don't and this is more of a casual RP and setting, then what you suggested mostly works. But most of the work is done by Warrant Officers and Sergeants of various ranks.

I want to keep it fairly realistic but not too much, I feel like it might get a bit "overwhelming" since I'm no expert in this and I assume most aren't. Thinking about keeping it "tv-show" realistic if that makes sense? The Intel. Officer role and Marksman role I got from The Brave, I'm not sure the roles will look exactly like that but most likely they will.
Thank you for the links, checked them out and tried to make sense out of it to the best of my abilities, haha! I'll keep your tips in mind while creating this! =)
