Roleplay Forum for Midheavens

The morning was so gray and rainy that the only way you knew the sun had come up was the slow lightening of the clouds. Even then, the rain poured, and showed no signs of letting up. But although thick, bursting clouds blanketed Astrophel, business in the city continued as well as it could. Cars in the rich sections and people in the poor traversed the streets, making them a sea of colors with their car paint and umbrellas. Police patrolled, artisans created, and the councils presided. And a florist and her assistant provided their services to a funeral.

If someone had to die, today was a fine day, Mantis figured. Most people would consider it fairly gloomy, but Mantis longed to go outside, to get her hair wet and smell the petrichor. Instead, she was inside, helping affix cut flowers to the body of a suit-clad businessman, but at least she'd gotten out of the shop. "Do we really have to put the flowers directly on... him?"

"It's the custom for worshipers of Avanna. They celebrate living in accordance with the parts of the world that grow, so their burial rite is to have flowers adorn their body before both decay together," replied the florist, crowning him with white carnations. Mantis noticed an odd geometric tattoo on his neck, and took it upon herself to scatter some neutral-toned petals above his collar.

The florist looked at her disapprovingly. "I've got the rest, Mantis. Go water the arrangements."

"Sure, Rainbow. I'll get right on it," sighed Mantis, disappointment in her voice. As crabby as the older woman was, she was a veteran arranger that Mantis could only hope to match up to one day. Plus, the way Rainbow sent Mantis away when they'd watered the arrangements as soon as they'd come in made her heart sink and her nose sting. Why couldn't she even place flowers right? She lingered by the spirals of tuberose, lilies and greenery on either side of the biodegradable burial vessel, then by the door, before exiting to the wet landscape before her, softly humming with rain. She looked beyond the funeral home, and the cemetery stretched out like spiky green rapids with well-carved rocks jutting up. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she was able to hold them back as more water hit her face. It was warm, really. Like a kiss.

The rain soaked her ponytailed bob and ran into her scarf, skirt and coat - all shades of green today, of course, the same as Avanna's small number of followers and the man's family would be wearing. Mantis made her way behind the funeral home and through the cemetery, walking slowly and feeling each gravestone she came across. Some were flat, some were curved, and a few were shaped like religious symbols. Many had flowers or trinkets on them, getting drenched. She looked around to make sure nobody was looking, leaned down, and dipped her nose into a colorful plastic-wrapped bouquet.

Heavenly.

It was like an ensemble of percussion instruments, the way that the rain droplets met with the path of stone. It was such a twisted path through the man-made thickets, that some even felt prolonged as the sound was embraced within a light echo. Not that the path went anywhere, as it merely strayed from the main cemetery before joining a lonesome shrine. If it were not for the single light post along it's side, this place would perhaps be one of nightmares. The way that an artificial forest opens, as if in fear of approaching the relic of worship. Though, perhaps this sort of design was befitting he who this place was made. This was not a place of worship, nor even designed to appease the gods. In fact, it is for he that should only visit places of the dead. Who might this be, you may ask. He is Heathos, bearer of the dead. A reaper if you will, that uses shrines like this to arrive within the mortal realm. It is said that he releases souls from their fallen corpses, only to capture them within a blackened cage meant for birds. A servant for some grim deity that few ever bother to learn about, as it generally only instills fear rather than peace. But long since, Shrines of Heathos have been 'good luck' charms to cemeteries. They need not be maintained, and none worship a mere servant. As such, this was the perfect place for a meeting of secrecy. Secrecy, you may ask? That, is another story altogether.

In this place of darkness, a single maiden stood, Quietus. A vibrant red adorned her form, contrasting the darker greens that surrounded the area. Hair, blacker than coal before lightening into an ashen color. The air around her proved overwhelming, but this was not due to the Shrine's foreboding placement. No, this was the pressure that lingered around none other than a Midheaven in form. A rarity, perhaps. To find one so casually standing within the elements, protected only by an umbrella as she waited. But, it brought some humanity to the picture, to see that it was a modern umbrella that was held by the woman that appeared so foreign. Nevertheless, the fact that she was present, and in the form of a Midheaven, meant that this was indeed a meeting intended to be a secret.

A soft wind blew, forcing Quietus to tilt the umbrella ever so slightly against it to protect from the altered trajectory of rain, if even for a moment. Her rusted bronze eyes never peered away from the path of entry however, as she willed to remain vigilante. At this point, she intended to already be taking refuge within the Garden. However, it would appear that her ally was slow on arrival. Not that she could be blamed, as neither spoke of their career in order to retain privacy outside of things Midheaven related. With this reasoning, she could ward away emotions of negativity, regardless of the longevity of this trial. Or, at least one could assume from her flat expression. It did not take many moments for her to begin spinning the umbrella lightly. Perhaps even a dull desire to return home in order to retrieve a book was present. But already had she risked being followed out here once.

"Note; If waiting is anticipated, always bring a work of literature. " She spoke quietly, as if to take a mental note for future use. In this place even the animals made no sound, meaning she could not even use their calls as a source of distraction. Luckily, the only individual that could be faulted for such things was she herself, as it was fact that she arranged such a meeting.  And as such, she simply had to see it through, despite the nuisances.

Just the night before- A heavy rain had swept over the city. It was so powerful that it stopped Akoya from getting home. So, what was the next best thing? Why- of course it was his best lady friend, Sunshine Constable. Er- her home.

Fast forward a bit and here he lay, drooling on her couch.

A soft pitter-patter greeted Akoya as he woke, along with familiar sounds of giggling children and the sounds of simple, blissful life.

That's right- Sunshine had moved back into her parent's place. This was months ago actually.

After she moved back- he felt it to be rude to intrude on her family reunion. It turned out to be no problem at all though- worrying was proven to be for nothing. There was no need for formality when it came to these folks- her family knew him well and it felt as natural as it used to. And for being the son of one her mother's best friends, Ako got a free bed and breakfast. Sunny's mother, a lovely woman, truly, practically treated him like he was an addition to their massive family. And this relationship was not one-sided.

The blueish grey from the weeping sky- beautiful it was by the way- just a closed window beyond created a nice contrast with the yellowy warmth of the inside of the Constable household. If one word were to describe the whole setting, it would be "sun," just like Sunshine herself. Nothing beat the cheery vibes that refused to be ignored and bounced and ricocheted off of the walls, trapping it all inside of one tiny, adorable house- tiny only because of the sheer size of people under one roof. It seemed her family was already awake, up and running, ready to take on the day, and it was about time he get to it too.

Outstretching, which was something he never did actually, Akoya yawned and turned over, pulling the blanket over his shoulders, shielding himself from the gloom peering into their lives from behind the old sacred sofa.

Let's see- today, he was supposed to visit his own family. It's been quite a while... Ahah! he'd bring a gift. To the first stop! He must visit the Flower Girl!

But- after breakfast. Mrs. Constable was his favorite restaurant.

Sunshine Constable

In the Constable family, waking up was a ritual experience, something shared by parents and children.  Sunshine woke like they all woke; in those breathless minutes of night yielding by inches to a steadily encroaching yet still unseen Sun.  Rubbing the sleep from her eyes, she rolled out of bed, tumbled over one of her sisters and bumped a different sister out of the way to reach her slippers while the other brushed her hair.

"You could make an effort, you know," murmured Meadow, glaring up as only a judgmental 15 year old could.

"Helia sees everything, formal, informal, groomed and unkempt," Sunshine replied, tugging on a light robe to wear over her pajamas.  "She knows what I am."

"Laaaaazy," sang out Song from the other side of the bedroom, though her 17 year old sister hadn't bothered with anything more than slippers either.

Giggling quietly and bumping into each other, the three girls joined their seven siblings and their parents as the sky lightened.  Given the rain, they all lined up along the house, protected by the awning.  Smiling, Father raised one hand to the coming dawn and spoke for a minute on Helia, on how Her light revealed the truth of all things.  And how proud he was of them all.  Sunshine listened, if not for quite the right reasons.  This was a family ritual binding them all together.  That part she loved.  But Helia?

When it was over, the Constable family crowded back into the house barely large enough to contain them all.  Three of the kids promptly went back to bed but the rest were up.  By the time Akoya woke, Sunshine had already dressed for the day and at least run a brush through her crumpled red hair.

And the delicious smell of breakfast filled the air.

Seeing Akoya stirring, Sunshine promptly sat on him as she laced up her shoes.  Given her morning would be occupied getting kids sent off for school while the parents went to work, she didn't bother with more than a t-shirt and jeans.

"What's your day like?" she asked Akoya, as if it wasn't early o'clock and she wasn't using him as a couch.

Wings, after a brief interlude with suspended animation (sleep), now stood out back of her quaint abode, blinking lazily. She stood there in a honest, but stylish outfit, prepared to meet the day, already. In spite, of her current musings at the sky above. Her outfit, as mentioned, was a deep sultry maroon, with a unique pattern, and quite the lengthy open-shoulder neckline. Below the chic blouse, was a short, pink pleated skirt: simple, but cute and functional. She was dressed, already, as Wings was often very apt to ready herself, but there was a small inkling in the back of her mind. A nagging, that had her in her backyard.

As an Issulath, which was what those in her faith - Issu unn Duun'e, or Walk with the Night- were called, which itself meant, Night Walker, the teen girl was always vigilant to uphold the standards of her endearing practices. So for a fleeting moment, timid blue eyes stared upward, just an instant, at the stormy sky. Gray. Bleak grayness, all around. Only a soft dash of iridescent faint yellow glow indicated daylight. Which, meant it was daytime.

Well, of course it was, that was obvious, even to one such as she. Yet, she felt compelled to make sure, like most calm mornings. Last night, she had exhibited her faith, kneeling at the small, picturesque, yet slightly dull shrine not 5 feet in front of her. Wings had prayed there, thanking the Almighty Queen of the Night for the previous day, and asking for her blessing this day. She hadn't kept up with the time, to deeply ingrained in what she had been doing. That she had gone to bed rather late. Too late, it seemed. For now... She was.. late. Not something Wings often found herself as. As a singer who took pride in her efforts and work, she was punctual, always starting concerts quite on time. Being late to this particular meeting?.. Did not sit well with her.

It almost meant she had to miss the morning prayer. Almost. Her Midheaven... f-friend, could wait. Her reverence was needed first and foremost.

Wings stepped forward, and then knelt on her knees at the unassuming stone shrine, clasping her hands together, and supporting herself with her elbows. Looking up just once more, she closed her eyes delicately, then lowered her head. Three butterflies came over lazily on their wings, appearing from the woodwork. When she prayed, they fluttered beside her dainty features.

Almighty Queen of the Night above,

I, Wings, your humble Vassal, beseech you this early morn.

The Night has come and gone once again. I.. We all have you to thank for that. So, again, thank you dear mother.

I do not have the right to ask it of you, for favors are not spoken in expectance. However,

I still ask this.

Please, dear mother, allow me to live this day, once more. My mother and father, too. Our friends, relatives, and acquaintances all.

Protect them under your mournful watch. Even as the sun casts you to the corners of our vision.

We know you are ever-present.

Ever-watching.

Ever-loving.

"This is what I ask.

Oh, and, I pray to you, that my f...f-friend is not upset with me, this day.

That would be.. very dismaying, and I would feel intense remorse.

Thank you, dear mother. Wings, your humble Vassal comes before you, and says this before you, in complete reverence.

Issu unn Duun'e.

Amen."

Wings stood up, and rubbed her knees, freeing them of clingy sand. She patted her skirt, for the same. The butterflies flapped about her, then turned and went off on their own paths. Finally, with one last glance up at the sky, acknowledging Lethe's 'casting to the corners of her vision'. She turned to leave, having shown her devotion this rainy morning, when her words would reach the Queen's ears easier in the solemnly lit sky.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Wings knew it, having already established it earlier. The young idol was already late. Not something that reflected well on the short Midheaven, that strolled along at a measly 4'8''. In this petite, fairy-like form, she was several inches (or more) shorter than she normally stood. It was always a weird juxtaposition in the eye-level she had, from human form, to Midheaven form. She still hadn't gotten used to it. Walking, in its own way, too, was a weird juxtaposition. Ever since her circumstantial meeting with the other Midheaven. Wings had been training quite regularly. She had gotten quite used to flight, and even though she stood shorter than when she was in human form. As a Midheaven, she could fly, with the three sets of wings that wafted off her back. Which meant she often was high high above even the tallest of humans just on their legs.

Heck, she could reach the sky, if she wanted.

Wings now, was walking a path, trying to remain inconspicuous as possible, for a girl with three sets of wings was an oddity to be sure. Especially, in a serene place like a cemetery, where apparently... there was some service going on for some poor deceased not too far away. That worried her, wasn't the whole point of training with this Midheaven, to be away from humanity? To retain a level of privacy? To conceal such magical presence and happenings? Ah, she decided not to dwell on it, even as she dipped quickly into a side path, brushing by thick bushes and trees, casting yet another gloom dimness over her. Like the stormy clouds above.

Speaking of above, Wings looked upwards, even while more butterflies found their way to her, flitting about aimlessly around her bare shoulders and upper chest. A couple alighted in her light pink hair, dotting the silky hair with some blues and purples. Above, floating just out of reach of the tree tops, was her 'weapon': the Throne of Abundance. She could see it glimmering, the magic indicating it was following her of its own accord. It was fine, to humans it remained cloaked, not visible at all. Only appearing when Wings would use it in combat.

Combat, that would hopefully happen soon... as Wings neared the opening leading to the meeting spot. She brushed aside said opening, and stepped before the other Midheaven.

A moment passed between the two, staring at each other. Wings was no linguist. She was quite inept in socializing, contrary to what you'd think of a idolized singer.

"Sorry," she stated simply.

'An apology?' It made for a peculiar greeting. Within Quietus's mind she could think of no reason for this Midheaven to show sympathy, nor feel a sense of regret. Boredom is such a minor sensation after all. Nevertheless, Quietus nodded to the female to show at least some for of acknowledgment. Honestly, the act was somewhat amusing. Though, the only indication of such a thing was the fact the she began spinning her umbrella once more, whilst breaking from her position to approach the other. At first, she chose to remain silent, slowly pacing herself around the fellow Midheaven whilst examining their frame from a modest distance. When full circle was made, Quietus stopped before her, relaxing the umbrella upon her own shoulder, only to give a nod of approval. Maybe this behavior was a little strange, but the purpose behind this examination was to ensure that the girl was uninjured. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she thought the random greeting derived from the fact that her ally would be incapable of training due to limitations.

"What aspect do you wish to train, today?" Her voice carried with unbending strength, and determination. Rusted eyes gazed deeply into that which belonged to her counterpart. It was a bit of a cold stare, one that she had been chastised for a number of times by not only her mother, but the teachers back in school. Something about people potentially misunderstanding her intentions, when she simply desired to know an answer. Her tongue even released an audible click at the memory, as it forced her to act upon it. A mild bobbing motion of her head resulted in her gaze looking off into the distance. So long as she didn't lock sight, people wouldn't think of her as cold, correct? "It's easier to make alterations to the Garden before entering, after all." Not that a reasoning was necessarily required. She just figured that she might as well put that 'social psychology' book to practice. Chapter four, she could faintly recall it mention something about reiteration providing both longevity and a sense of comfort to conversation. But, again, did such a thing really matter?

((Short post, my apologies Thalia! Let me know if you want to turn it into a collab segment. Forgot how hard it might be due to both of our characters being mildly handicapped in a social sense.))

Wings in truth, was not all that late, for she had woken up just after the crack of dawn, and gotten ready quite quickly. In spite of a carelessly long night. She was one to be punctual after all. Usually, the girl would wake up just at dawn, and prepare herself with a morning shower. Then after fixing her hair, she'd find an outfit laid out, usually chosen by her mother. Even at this stage in her life, this was a daily occurrence. After which, she'd more than likely go through with her early morning prayer, similar to today. Finally, head down to the kitchen, met with lovely scents of both endearment, and warm, good food. A delectable, often simple breakfast prepared by her mother, as most things in her life were. Simple, but not poorly constructed, instead, grafted with love and cooked for practicality.

It was both the thought the counted, and the simplicity that Wings adored. She'd leave her home, with a smile displayed on her lips, which usually were pressed in a muted line. Her mother would more than likely helm the car that drove them off. Whether, they were headed to a spa to help Wings get more prepped for the day's festivities, or the grocery store, to pick up some much needed.. groceries, or whether they were running other such errands, it was like Wings was mostly a passenger in a lot of her life. She did not mind that aspect, though, almost preferring it. For when she got to shine, boy did she shine. As a rising star, and beloved idol, Wings's voice touched a lot of people. Young and old. Even those who didn't like her voice, or songs, or type of music. They at least heard it at some point, somewhere in Astrophel. It was like her mother was trying to spread Wings's influence through the entirety of the city, like seeding the ground, ready to sprout the latest harvest, which would be the earnest, admiring response of the audience.

Her mother was a godsend; a truly wonderful, adoring woman, who tended to all the minor, dull nuances in her daughter's life. Like, for one, driving Wings to cemetery, where apparently her daughter had a friend she wanted to visit on an off day. It was tough to fenagle a Midheaven transformation, out of sight of her mother, and out of sight of a funeral procession, but she had managed. Wings's magical aura dictated trust, and before she dipped aside, and out of sight, she wondered if the nearby people could feel the trust within themselves welling forth. Were they all friends? Were they all happy with how the deceased left them in life? Were there some holding small grudges at perhaps a mistake in the deceased life?

Or were her questions all pointless, because her trust-bubble was too weak at that distance, and it made no difference?

Anyway, without focusing on that too much, Wings had managed to travel the path to the shrine, some butterflies lingering about her like usual. Even a few chipmunks and squirrels came out of the underbrush, to titter at her heels. Above, the Throne of Abundance's magic was still in effect, even if it was magically concealed. She watched as vines grew, as bushes plumped with more leaves, as the 'canopy' of trees on that path enclosed after growing more.

Standing before the other Midheaven, that she knew as Quietus, even the grass around her began to spark to life, dancing in newly formed green patches about her sophisticated, and angelic footwear.

"Aspect?.. Quietus-san?" Wings repeated in a very light tone.

"Lighttrust," she answered simply. Her words didn't really convey much, and even less to hold a conversation over, unless Quietus was confused by what the short Midheaven meant by 'Lighttrust'. It was the name of her particular strand of a magic. Which, was a combination of the light she brought along with her, hopefully due to complete trust between people (or the opposite of light, in regards to mistrust), and a serenity, she exuded as a herald of The Butterfly constellation.

Maybe through the time they had spent training together, Quietus had been able to figure all this out, or maybe not. Wings was not really one to talk about herself much. Especially, since they only knew each other's Midheaven forms. But perhaps, the other Midheaven knew enough, picking up on subtleties of the socially awkward Wings. Ironically, Quietus also had her own brand of social ineptitude, though it stemmed from logical thinking, instead of blatant insipid emotional dullness.

While they were both waiting on Wings's answer, and Quietus's magic to whisk them away to the Garden Realm, natural wildlife chirped, and squeaked, drawn to the beacon that was Wings, gathering about her shoulders and feet. Critters crawled over, bugs flitted over, and birds flew up, and either alighted, or flapped their wings to remain in place.

As Mantis was traversing the graves, smelling flowers here and there, something caught her eye. Were those people near the shrine? Quietus was usually around here, as she worked there, but Mantis couldn't recognize either of the people. Her eyes widened in shock as she looked more closely - one of the girls had wings. Not two, but six. And some golden talisman floating above her head. The other wore similar elaborate clothing.

They couldn't be. But since wings and gold on a human weren't really the aesthetic of a Nadir, what else would explain it?

They were Midheavens.

As the two talked, Mantis walked behind the row of mausoleums and other small buildings, moving at a brisk pace. She couldn't feel their emotional radiation, being a Midheaven herself, but whatever they were, they were definitely worth investigating. Just before she came up behind them, she flattened her back against the wall of a small mausoleum and transformed. The silent burst of green light made its way up her body, changing her clothes to an elaborately-patterned green garment in the most luxurious fabric. It also spread a fervor through her body - every nerve lit like a candle, power suffusing her.

Her bare feet squished against the wet grass as she stepped out from behind the mausoleum and made her presence clear to the two girls who, up close, were almost certainly either Midheavens or humans in heavy subcultural dress. How they reacted to her emotional aura would be the deciding factor - Mantis radiated fear. Not terror. The kind of fear that made people's eyes dart around every which way, made adrenaline course through their veins like liquid fire, made them turn on a flashlight or huddle close to someone else just in case the light or warmth were to go away.

"You two don't look like you're here for the funeral."

Akoya Simmons

"Errghg-" He mumbled as Sunshine's crushing weight pinned down his fragile body. Ahah! An exaggeration! Of course not!

"Going back home... gonna see my family later-" He forced out in a raspy voice to answer Sunshine's question.

Akoya hated waking this early. His 'day', he preferred, started in late noon and ended in the hours just before the sun's rays would peek over the horizon. But with light now hitting his eyes and activity buzzing around him, it both motivated and pressured him to rise. The bitter taste of a sloppy slumber invaded his senses- Alas, now was the time to get up and take on the day.

With an exhale of morning breath, Akoya turned over again. Propping himself up as much as he could with Sunshine merrily perched on top of him. He said, a bit more attentive,
"And yours?"
But wait- What was this? Nevermind the girl literally treating him like a piece of furniture- A tantalizing aroma filled the living room. And that meant- Sunny's mom was awake! And cookin'! What a wonderful distraction!

"Goooood morning, Mrs. Constable!" He exclaimed, instantly in high spirits. However, waking up in somebody else's home and greeting somebody else's mother made him feel like something was a little 'off.' No matter- Home itself was Astrophel! And if that was the case- He could never feel homesick!

A few family members of Sunny's were in the room with them.
"And the siblings-" He quickly added, putting some respect on their names.

Papa Constable seemed to have already laid down his holy verses as some of the family were was missing. What a shame that Akoya didn't get to hear the daily prayer for Helia. Goddess of the sun, she was known as. Was that right? It was rather difficult to keep track of the many deities that people worshipped.

However, at the same time, Ako was glad he didn't have to participate. It was always just a little awkward partaking in the religious practices dedicated to a god he did not follow. Out of respect and decency, he would always comply, but it was still a bit strange being the only other person he knew that had no faith. Especially when many of your friends invite you to their churches and you attend only for the free food and beverages. Sometimes they aren't even free!

Oh- That reminded him-

"And you too, Mr. Constable."

There- now it was officially morning.

Shrine of Heathos - The Garden Realm

Once more, the only acknowledgment that Quietus gave was a simple nod. She had long since guessed that the Midheaven's magic centered around the emotion of trust, not as if she was trying to hide it. But rather, it was the correlation between trust, and that power over light that remained a mystery. It was a difficult thing to judge, since at first her level of power was seemingly random. Then again, 'trust' was always a fickle thing, a concept that was relatively hard to grasp. What's more, Quietus herself felt like the limiting factor that prevented further growth, due to the possible nature of the power. After all, she is incapable of creating life forms that could supplement this type of power within the Realm. They could potentially use random individuals from within Astrophel, but that would only prove to bring rise to chaos. And then there's the fact that if such measures were taken, the last thing they would receive is 'trust'. This train of thought, was vexing...

"Very well." Quietus spoke, not so much in attempt to socialize, but rather to end the train that was without destination. It was the least she could do before closing her eyes to shut away the world around her. Sound, was always such a predominant feature for inspiration in the world of art. Whether it be the soft patter of rain drops drumming between the stone of the path, or it's light reverberation as it struck the cloth of the umbrella. If one were to mix this solemn melody with the chattering of the wildlife that surrounded Wings, the fellow Midheaven.. What type of canvas could be orchestrated?  If one were to add a spice, with the flavor of 'trust', how might that take form? A vast space, that forced individuals together, was it the sky? No, more solemn. A sky of darkness, open like a terrible void to bring a mild tinge of loneliness that forced reliance... No, the warmth of coexistence was present within this. Stars, tiny beacons that could expand across the darkness to aid in the comfort with forlorn beauty. For the ground in which one stands, shall be open but littered with obstacles.

And then, another voice breached the air. One that forced Quietus to rise from her state of peace, eyes opening as fabrication was forcibly concluded. Her eyes greeted the individual clad in green with mild resentment, resentment that quickly faded as this acceptance took hold. But it was already too late, as a fracture appeared in the sky above. It was like the cracking of glass, the way that it seemingly fragmented. It would appear as though history has repeated itself, once more would a fellow Midheaven be caught unintentionally within her Realm. Fate, perhaps? Regardless, before one could even react to such a thing, the ground began to shatter, and like a wildfire it spread. To those three, it was as if the world itself was breaking away. With one last wave of unfelt explosive energy, the last fabrications departed into darkness.

First, came the sky. Deep azure, licked upon by an intense teal, before melding seamlessly into a lighter green upon the horizon, almost lime in color.  A peculiar blend that was only driven further into oddity as stars indeed rested within it. A fabrication that was altered due to the early conclusion, adorned by that which caught her eye within those last moment. But the sky, alone, is not what makes a realm. There was a gentle, ongoing breeze that never faded in energy. It's light breath forced the soft blades of green grass to glisten, despite there being no apparent source of light within this domain. The expanse of the realm was quite large, though sight from within was mildly hindered, due to the fact that patches of trees were strewn about. Amongst those, were columns of shrubbery that stood quite tall, but not so much that they were imposing. This is not to say the realm was cluttered, as in fact there was substantial space given between each segment. Simply, the realm was so large that distant trees hindered vision. However, there were a few inconsistencies that could attract the eye due to it's purely abstract nature. There were some trees the bloomed numerous flowers, the likes of which could not be found anywhere within the overworld.  This place of obscurity, is none other than Quietus's 'Garden Realm'. A realm that holds no consistency, other than a single creation found within. If one approaches the center of this realm, they shall find a lonesome cabin. One constructed with apparent warmth..

A single beat was not missed from Quietus, as soon as the rain stopped it's downpour, she closed the modern umbrella. Casually walking away from the others before kneeling to the ground, lightly touching the surface of grass before standing once more. From it, a sapling grew, one that would quickly rise from the ground to form a small tree, it's branches barren of leaves. And from one of these branches, she hung the umbrella from it's handle. Only then would she turn back to the others, mostly looking to the unknown Midheaven. It was difficult to tell whether or not the green lady came to bear hostility or not. Nonetheless, it was probably best if she proceeded with some level of caution. As such, she drew the closed fan from within her sleeve.

"It is difficult to tell whether or not Fate is on my side." Twice, twice has this happened. Was it Arisu, or is there some other being that could be pushing the Midheavens to meet? Regardless, this is a golden opportunity if one were to follow a more corrupt mindset. After all, the Midheaven are those capable of having a wish granted. And the more Midheaven that stand in the way, the harder it is to have it realized. Not that Quietus could release herself from the moral compass to act upon such a plan. But who is to say another that stumbles upon two would think the same? With these thoughts, Quietus could only remain in anticipation. Her eyes refused to release the individual until further evaluation could be made. In this moment she would lightly tap her chin with the tip of the fan, attempting to calculate her risks. If previous experience with Wings was any indication of things, she (herself) was rather lacking in firepower in comparison to others. Which way did Fate's will stray? The only gamble that could be made with this one, is the fact that the unknown Midheaven announced their presence...

Regardless, something must occur before the air stales. That is what would decide this outcome! Quietus outstretched her arm, which was holding the fan, to the side, opening the device to reveal it's peculiar design. "Midheaven, I welcome you to the Garden. Though, before tea may be poured, I must first know if there will be blood."

Sunshine Constable

"Awww, sleepy head!"  Akoya's cheek received an affectionate pat at his incoherent "Errghg-" "If you were that tired, I'd have let you sleep more!"  The mischevious twinkle in her eye suggested otherwise, of course.

"Going back home... gonna see my family later-" Akoya's voice sounded hoarse.  But then, who didn't when just waking up?  Sunshine kept lacing her shoes as she nodded.  "That's awesome.  They're good people.  Wish I saw them more."  She frowned a little, realizing how long it'd been.  "I guess school and now...well...them keep me busy," she finished, waving an expressive hand at the chaos that was the near dozen younger ones turning the house upside down.

"And yours?"

"My?  Oh, my day?  Them," she said, with another expressive wave of the hand.  There was a look of amused fondness but beneath it was the silent shell-shock that many of  Astrophel's youth would recognize; the look of someone who's discovered the future is much less awesome than expected, and only going to get worse from here.

Then she rallied at Akoya's greeting of her mother, letting herself be swept up in his enthusiasm for her mother's cooking.  Mama really was an amazing cook!  Sunshine had picked up a little of the Constable skill at the stove but there was no comparison to the original master.  She let Akoya up and dragged him into the kitchen proper.  In the Constable household, there were just too much family for them all to fit behind a table, despite the occasional try around the dinner hour.  Instead, Mama had organized something resembling an assembly line, cooking up dishes and letting one of her kids slot the bowl, pan or plate into place while the others filled up their dining plates and found a spot somewhere within earshot to eat.  Sunshine took a despairing look at the dishes, well aware that she'd be cleaning up all this mess.

But at the moment she didn't mind.  This was family.  This was happiness.  Having a friend to share it with was that much sweeter.

Sunshine planted a kiss on Papa's cheek, absently acknowledged the same way Akoya's good morning greeting was; with an indecipherable sound as he poured through the morning edition of the paper.  The family home was thankfully located far enough in town to reliably get an early paper, one of the few perks of the location.  Affording it had exhausted the coffers of both Constables but they needed to be within walking or biking distance of work and the size of their household forced certain sacrifices.

"I'm probably going to look up River later," she added, mentioning her usual partner-in-crime since childhood as she settled down next to Akoya with a breakfast plate.  She took a couple bites of eggs before adding, "Not sure what she's up to.  Probably work, come to think of it.  It's harder to hang out than it used to be, isn't it."  Stupid adult lives taking over.

As the morning meal wrapped up, Sunshine kissed both of her parents on the cheek as they went down the line, greeting and saying goodbye to their kids and guest before they went out into the world, clad in uniform, the very image of Astrophel's Finest.

Rain poured from the sky, the rhythmic patter on the roof of the manor was unwavering. The windows were vaguely clouded with condensation from the contrast of hot air from the inside to that of the chilly air from outside, the windows seemed to get a fresh coat of rain droplets every second from the plethora of water being released from the sky. River liked it when it rained heavily, it gave her an excuse for being late.

River stretched out her whole body with a groan, having to slowly muster up enough willpower to rise from the heavenly comfort of her bed. This bed was among River's favourite things, it was definitely more than big enough, leaving the girl enough space to sprawl out in every which way she so desired, the bed sheets were made of a fine silk which provided unrivalled amenity and were of an ultramarine colour bordered with sublime black lace. The part of her bed which River held in the highest regard, however, was the mattress which felt like you could sink through it into another world; it felt like it was made purely of the most cushioned of clouds which seemed to be weaved from the delicate touch of the Gods, at least if the worship and celebration they engendered was truly deserved for they actually exist somewhere, somehow.

An almost silent yawn escaped from River's lips as she sat up and glanced around her room, she blinked in quick succession as to exercise her eyes to adjust to being open. River fumbled with her phone which lay charging on her wooden nightstand, eventually she managed to press on the home button so she could check the time and instantly sighed. Oh no. She thought as she shot out of bed and towards her vanity table. River's dark blue hair was slightly dishevelled and her inky night gown somewhat crumpled, she dashed over to her ensuite bathroom and briskly began her morning routine.

Although on the verge of running late for work, River couldn't resist the temptation of enjoying the blissful relaxation in which a steamy shower on a cold morning provided. Once finished, she hurriedly dried herself and got changed into her work attire. River's outfit consisted of faded denim ripped jeans, a black t-shirt that had the logo of her favourite band on, and a worn black leather apron which looked to be more of a grey colour. River dressed practically, working at a smithing business wasn't glamorous. After she finished changing, River then speed walked back to her vanity table and sat upon the stool, she dried her hair and began to tussle her it lightly with her fingers while thinking how to style it for the day. River decided on going for a wavy look, her blue locks cascading down her back and reflecting the intrinsic light which seeped through the gaps in the curtains of her bedroom. She loved her hair, it was the one thing that she paid the utmost care and attention to, it was surprisingly naturally blue in colour - much to the amazement of any whom would learn such information.

After drawing the curtains and running down stairs for a quick but delicious breakfast prepared by Adelaide, the family's chef, River jogged back up the bifurcated staircase to grab a pair of shoes which she had forgotten to put on in her rushed state. A brief moment passed while River held a finger to her chin, thinking of which pair of trainers to wear today. She decided on her favourite pair of black converse, the same that she wore to work almost everyday and then returned to the kitchen at a fast pace.

Finesse, her younger brother, was sitting at the table selecting from the prepared continental breakfast with wide eyes, seemingly never not having enough room for more food despite his healthy appearance. River moved just behind Finesse without making a sound, something she could do effortlessly. She leaned in and whispered into his ear with a sweet voice, "The croissants are particularly tasty this morning". Her brother, dressed in his guard uniform jumped out of his skin, whipping around and frowning upon seeing his sister smirking at him. "I told you to stop doing that River...", he complained as he turned back to his breakfast, picking a puff pastry croissant up and bringing it to his mouth. River smiled as her brother's eyes rolled back in ecstasy, Adelaide was a culinary master and so her food was like having your own five star restaurant at your home. "Tell father I've left for work, miss out the bit where I was running a tad late", River said before heading straight out of the door, across their gravel driveway and to the family garage.

River bit her lip as her eyes glanced over her spotless, gloss sable Aston Martin DB9, "My baby...", she mumbled with a smile as she entered the car and revered the engine. River had no clue how the system worked but the garage door always opened when it she drove a tiny bit forward, she guessed it had a motion sensor which detected her car and scanned her number plate, opening once it had been approved. River drove the fairly long distance to Ethereal, her mother's smithing business and as she parked up she gazed at the clock on her car's screen. Twenty minutes late wasn't too bad. River entered slyly through the back door and immediately got to work at her station, working on the exceptionally subtle detail of a diamond encrusted ring which her mother had given River as a test of how far her abilities had come since starting her apprenticeship. River had a carefree attitude but her work was one of the things that she could count on her hand in which she took seriously, she wanted to do her parents proud and honour the family business so her work was something she cared about. Plus, she actually enjoyed it.

The faint click of heels colliding with a hard surface started to get louder as River realised who was coming. River's mother dressed stylishly at all times, never mind what setting she was in or the fact that she was the Master Smith here, she dressed to impress and if one word was used to describe her it would be elegant. River's mother worked interchangeable between her work station and the front of the business, her clothing was the perfect balance between practicality and looking professional to show the customers that this was a serious establishment. River's mother rounded the corner and stood across from River whom was sitting and working through her adjustable magnifying glass. "Where have you been River?", her mother asked in a calm tone as she looked down at the ring River had been working on. River stopped working for a moment and looked up at her mother with a confused look, "What do you mean?", River asked rhetorically as she raised an eyebrow before adding: "I got here early today to get straight to work on this ring, that's probably why you didn't see me come in". River smiled charmingly at her mother as she raised said ring up to display the work she had done on it, she was lucky she liked to get ahead on things otherwise it wouldn't have looked like she had done much work to it. "Oh-well...great!", River's mother exclaimed as she planted a soft kiss on the blue-haired girl's forehead, "I so love it when you show enthusiasm for something River, I'll let you carry on working, I have a special commission from an important politician that I must get started on right away. See you later darling".

With a warm smile and a wave over her shoulder, River's mother disappeared from her sight. River let out a long breath of relief, what her mother didn't know wouldn't hurt her. She once again commenced on the task of the ring, concentration was key in this profession and so River cherished the low tranquil sound of the rain dripping upon the roof, she found it comforting. As she worked, River wondered about Sunshine, they had been best friends for as long as River could remember and had gotten along like a house on fire. She missed the times when they could spend hours in one another's company and lose track of time but adult life no longer allowed that. As a result, River didn't see her friend as much as she would like to have recently. She hoped that maybe Sunshine would make one of those surprise work visits that she did every once in a while, oh how River would love to see her. Her mind promptly focused back on the ring, she wanted it to be impeccable.

The fact that the onlooker that had stumbled upon the two Midheaven's gathering could discern their pedigree so easily, was mostly due to one single fact: Wings. Two fold there, really. Wings's wings to be more precise. It was true, both Midheavens exuded a powerful presence that magically affected the world around them, and that was a strong indicator of the near-godly presences before the other girl. It was also true that the two had a unique 'out of this world' style, that could only be described in a couple of different ways, one being they were just avid larpers, or cosplayers, or some such. Which, begged the question why they would be out there by a cemetery of all places. This style was marvelous, dancing about their person like something out of some sort of cartoon (anime, do they have anime in this world?), glittering, and glowing with enticing magic.

But the truth of it was was this. That Wings just made it too easy for anyone to notice that they did not belong. Like they were some sort of divine beings that had been plucked from the cosmos, and placed on the earth below. Their uniqueness contrasting a great deal with the mundane, humdrum world around them.

It was like a painting, and they were swaths of color that didn't belong. That didn't blend. Regardless, as mentioned, it was ultimately Wings that was the decidedly strange factor that would give them away. For no matter how unusual their presences, or how iridescent they looked. That could sort of be explained away. Not the obvious feathered appendages that extended up from the small girl's back. The wings, were obviously of a whole other nature. No human had such things. Could they be chalked up to just some sort of elaborate costume? If you went that far with three sets of the large feathered extremities, then you were very much deluded. Flexing, and moving, they were undeniable.

At the other feminine voice, Wings's attention was drawn that way. The vision of a girl clad in a uniquely designed green outfit, barefoot on the chilled, mushy grass, the Midheaven could feel a unique, but familiar tugging. A pull. Magical in nature. This girl was not nearly as extravagant at Wings's own Midheaven appearance, but the unmistakable feeling in the pit of the girl's stomach was... well, it was unmistakable. It was the obvious radiated aura of a Midheaven. Another? Well, this was such an atypical, unique scenario, that Wings could not help but be a mix of utter fascination and intense intrigue. Had the power of two meeting Midheaven's somehow draw another? Or had it been as simple as a cosmic coincidence? Well, whichever, the irony was not lost on Wings, for this is exactly how she had found her.. f-friend Midheaven here. Just an unusual stumbling right into her territory, like the green-donning Midheaven beside her.

Wings could feel this tugging of emotional aura about her, like she could feel Quietus's. It was a weird sensation in the pit of her. Two intense pulls, yet not so intense that they overwhelmed the Midheaven's senses. For she was also like them, and not meant to be as affected by a Midheaven's emotional aura, like say a human would be. So, it was more like... two clashing annoyances, mixed with her own clashing emotions. It was not entirely pleasant. Especially, this new girl's. Wings, though not super affected, it was more intrusive than Quietus's aura, that was for sure. The short Midheaven pulled just ever so away, clutching to herself, obvious wings folding down a bit. They were like opposites, in a way. This undeniable feeling of growing dread. A fear that gripped the heart, and caused not only confusion, but worry, as well as, severe doubt.

This was the type of fear, that lead to mistrust between others. Wings could feel it. She knew it might actually not be the most beneficial for her to be nearby this other Midheaven. Her power reliant on trust, and the green-haired girl's magic conflicted heavily with the type of trust that Wings wanted to instill. Sure, mistrust was also its own sort of power, but it was not one that the pinkish-haired girl wanted to really rely on. For its effects tended to be a tad on the dark end of the spectrum. Recoiling just a bit, Wings wished the new Midheaven would just.. not be around. For as guilty a feeling that was to be.

Regardless, the words spoken by the unplanned newcomer, were a clear indication that the two were very noticeable (a fact Wings had already gone over). She spoke in sort of a... was that a joking way, Wings wondered? No, the two were not there for the funeral. That much was as obvious as the six wings that danced along Wings's back. At least, she was not there for a funeral... Quietus was here for her, so... yeah, no, she would not be here for such a solemn occasion either.

She had to voice it, a compulsion within made her retort. Wings spoke up, before all three's world was 'turned upside down' so to speak. "What about you?.. Are you here for... For the services..?"

Her words, rhetorical, more than Wings usually could express, had barely escaped her lips, when the very fabric of reality about them was torn asunder. Casting her vacant crystalline gaze upward, watching the sky tear apart, the clear indication of Quietus's magic beginning its miraculous work, Wings made sure to focus on the invisible floating chair. Her weapon, which was again, invisible to humanity normally, would be soon very apparent to the two Midheavens that were pulled into Quietus's world.

The familiar rush of magic pulling her -no, ripping her from the plain of existence known as the mortal world, tugged at Wings's tummy in a different way than the Midheavens's emotional bubbles. It was a feeling.. more akin to a rollercoaster. Again, she felt ground underneath her small feet, her shoes pressing into a new patch of gentle grass. Opening her eyes, Wings took in the picturesque sight of the beautifully crafted world of the 'Garden Realm' before her.

If Wings was better at expressing herself, she might have done something like gasp, or stand awestruck, or praise Quietus's remarkable attention to detail, and her astounding ability to craft some profoundly striking worlds; the girl was not like that. She stood there, and flapped her Wings, to give them a stretch, 'airing them out', so to speak.

Her gaze was drawn over to Quietus confronting the new Midheaven. Another, intriguing predicament to witness. Wings remained where she was planted, standing still, being very quiet. The usual chirpings, squeakings, flutterings, etc. of wildlife was no longer around her. Not caught up in Quietus's magic. Above her, some distance into the air, floated a very prominent throne, now shinning with light; not hidden away by magic.

Mantis caught the look of resentment in the non-winged girl's eyes, and returned it with a pointed glare of her own. The other girl's rhetorical question didn't get anything out of Mantis; she supposed her own question was rhetorical enough.

The sky began to splinter, and any other words from the other girls were drowned out by two realizations: they were definitely Midheavens, and they were up to something. Mantis summoned her sickle in a flash of emerald light, but wasn't sure whether to use it on the Midheavens, run, or simply watch the sky. By the time she had, the rip had already torn through the entire sky, down to the earth, and she realized it was not just a tear in the sky but a tear in reality. She stood her ground, scythe in a defensive position, one arm holding the grip and the other pulling the chain taut. Only Alya knew if it'd actually do any good, she thought, as she felt an undeniably strange sensation. The feeling of leaving.

The next thing she felt was... a breeze. She glanced around. Green grass beneath her feet, a shade unnatural to her, and trees and shrubs everywhere she couldn't identify, some flowering, some not. She didn't lower her weapon when one of the Midheavens asked her a question, and the other stood still watching. Mantis wanted to lash out. But Alya was teaching her to live her life intentionally, not impulsively, so she said, "I really thought you brought me here to kill me. Why are you doing this?" Her knuckles were turning white, she was gripping her scythe so hard.

Akoya Simmons

"That's awesome. They're good people. Wish I saw them more. I guess school and now...well...them keep me busy,"

"Heh- Yeah, I wish you saw them more too. Mom loves you!"

Akoya allowed himself to be swept into the kitchen. And once there, he submitted to the line-up system. So many people in the kitchen at once reminded him just a little bit of his own house! Right about now, his folks were likely having breakfast too.

With his plate generously filled, he thanked Mrs. Constable for the meal and strolled joyfully to the table.

Father's disregard to his and Sunny's greeting made him want to laugh a bit. Always so serious! It was hilarious to him.

"I'm probably going to look up River later. Not sure what she's up to. Probably work, come to think of it. It's harder to hang out than it used to be, isn't it." Said Sunny at mealtime.

"Oh yeah? You're gonna have to introduce me one day to her. You talk about her a lot."

Akoya had maybe only seen River once, but he actually never met her at all really. And it only made him want to! Sunny's best friend and he had never even spoken to her?! It was shameful! A bit of a reminder though how if their mothers weren't friends, Sunny and him likely wouldn't be either with them being a couple years apart. And if he hadn't met Sunny- Oh, the agony!

In regards to the second part of her statement, he replied,

"Uh-huh. Sure is. So, I'm glad I had the time to come by today! I'd say you should go see her."

Sunny's word choice was a little depressing. He knew that she had been feeling down recently. Er- no- she had been since she was forced to moved back- she told him. And it made him feel a little bad for her. It was always sad seeing Sunny not her cheerful, bubbly self. But perhaps River could bring her back. Friends always boost morale!

Or- perhaps he was only over thinking. Yes- that was it. Worrying was dumb! His sensitivity was stupid! How did he even get this from what she said?!

Sunshine also told him some other things... like the Midheaven thing. But that was questionable. Looking back, he wondered where that came from. He hoped Sunny was 'okay.'

When the meal wrapped up, Mr. and Mrs. Constable waved goodbye and headed off to work.

"So- you need some help with the dishes?" He asked, rinsing his own in the sink. There was a lovely pile all left for Sunny. Now, that was the most depressing.

"I could help you out before I go too-" He added.

"I honestly haven't seen my family in person since you moved back. I'm thinking of stopping by that little flower shop- Can't remember the name, but have you been around there? I'll buy some flowers for my mom and my aunt. Maybe Alexandrite too. Honestly don't even know if she's into flowers- Can't believe my little sister is almost an adult now-"

He wished Jasper had the time to visit their parents too. But it was scarce that his schedule allowed him to with him attending law school and all that.

Remembering the current weather pattern, he dreadfully remarked, "This rain though is gonna annoy the hell out of me..."

Shrine of Heathos - The Garden Realm

A misunderstanding? Just how far was fate willing to be repeated? Quietus continued to stare at the new Midheaven for a few moments more before making her decision. With a swift motion, she closed the fan, retracted her arm, and placed the tip of it against her own chest. The girl seemed to be playing the victim, though only to coincidental circumstance. "Training." She answered bluntly, simply pointing to her ally with her free hand for further reference.  "As for your arrival, a miscalculation, perhaps? You, are the one that intruded upon the Gardens creation." An ongoing theme, it would seem. Then again, when creation began, it was already too late to cancel her magic. She could probably close the Garden, release the Midheaven, and then open once more for the original purpose. But that would perhaps exhaust Quietus, forcing her to take a rest within before being able to properly disband it once more. After all, the Garden wasn't a simple magic that could be used repeatedly. In the given situation it was mildly unfortunate, seeing as the length of this Midheaven's patience may very well be quite short. That is, if the whitening of her hand was any indication.

(Painfully short post! My sincerest of all apologies for the wait, more so for the lacking of content...)

Sunshine Constable

The redhead smiled at the boy getting breakfast with her in the kitchen, as he mentioned his Mom's fondness for her.  Akoya hadn't probably meant much by it but it put her into an introspective space for a moment.  Despite her challenges, and the shocking revelations life had thrown her way, Sunshine had people.  Lots of people.  Lots of love in her life.  People who didn't just like her or think of her fondly but felt real emotion over her.

She might be having a crisis of conscience, of faith, but those who loved her hadn't lost faith in her.

As Sunshine settled down with a plate of food beside Akoya, he said "Oh yeah? You're gonna have to introduce me one day to her. You talk about her a lot."

"You mean I haven't?" she said, startled.  Then she thought about it.  "Surely I have.  Haven't I?  I mean, we don't always have a lot of opportunity to hang out.  Her Dad's in charge of the constables and the city guard so he's not big on mixing work and recreation or whatever.  But I thought...I mean, I guess I-"  Her words trailed off awkwardly as she scratched the back of her head, mussing her just-brushed hair.  "Well, let's maybe do something later together.  When I see her, I'll find a free spot in her schedule and we'll all hook up, okay?  You're right.  It's long overdue."

Once the meal was wrapped up and her parents on their way, Sunshine started rounding up her younger school-aged siblings and kicking butts to the door.

"So- you need some help with the dishes?" Akoya asked, as he rinsed his off in the sink.  Sunshine flashed him a grateful smile and shook her head. "I could help you out before I go too-"

"Nah, don't worry about it.  It's not like I have a job at the moment.  If you've got plans, you should do your plans.  Like seeing your family."

"Flower shop?"  With the last of the kids out the door, Sunshine looked thoughtful.  "You mean Mantis' shop?  Well, it's not hers, I think she just works there."  In case Akoya was confused by that, she added "You remember Honey Sharp?  My best friend from high school?  Mantis is her girlfriend.  Er.  Sometimes.  You ever hear someone say their relationship status is 'complicated'?  Honey and Mantis are who I think about whenever I hear that."  She chuckled briefly, then grinned.  "If you see Mantis, tell her I said hi!  We're not exactly friends but she seems nice."

Glancing out the window, Sunshine nodded at Akoya's observation of the weather.  "It can't rain all the time.  Give it time, it'll clear up.  But if you're on the clock today, you should probably get going.  Take an umbrella, we have extra!  I'll give you a call later, okay?  Once I've talked to River and see if she's free sometime we can all meet up."

Turning her attention to the dishes, the redhead lit into her workload with a fierce energy.

Mantis raised an eyebrow, but let her hand fall to her side. The words "training" and "miscalculation" spoke to the Midheaven's lack of intention to do this, as did the closing of what must have been her weapon. Mantis must have stepped in on something that was already happening. She glanced over to the winged, silent girl and the first one. "I..." she took a deep breath in and out to slow her mind down so she could choose her words carefully. "... knew other Midheavens existed, as Arisu told me, but I didn't realize I'd run into them so soon."

She stowed her scythe on her back and nervously pushed one of the tails of her hair behind her shoulder, the soft breeze blowing it in that direction anyway. "So, you're training? And your power is to create this... place..." she said rhetorically and extended a hand. Or it was the other Midheaven's power. It didn't leave much room for questions. "My name is Mantis. I make poison and snakes. I apologize for stepping in on your training, although your world is beautiful." She hoped her error would be understood; after all, nobody had expected anyone to walk away from the funeral preparations. She wasn't looking forward to competing with them for Stars, but she did believe her actions weren't totally unreasonable for her position.

Wings was just enjoying the beauty of the realm around her. It was never clear to the Midheaven whether this place that Quietus could manifest was an actual reality, or just some sort of painting made real. The world they were all from was obviously real. But this place? It was crafted by magic. It could be mere illusion for all Wings really understood. A very real illusion, but an illusion nonetheless. For if Quietus really could create an entire world (with boundaries mind you), then that meant the Midheaven she 'knew' was extremely powerful. Far more powerful than Wings considered herself.

It was both enthralling, and a bit disconcerting. What exactly could Quietus do with this realm of hers? Wings would often wonder. A question on repeat ever since first finding her way accidentally here, like the other apparent-Midheaven. As mentioned, it wasn't quite so obvious if this was a world all its own, and Quietus was simply 'god' here. Or if her magic just influenced others into believing something like that. If it was the former, then Wings would have to find herself regarding Quietus and this realm a bit differently. It could potentially influence the thoughts she had about her very religion. Was Quietus's realm similar to Lethe's Nightly Realm above? Was Quietus a goddess in disguise? Were.. were all Midheaven's goddesses or gods?

Was... She one? Wings didn't really like that thought, so she pushed it away. Along with this train of thinking. For now anyway. She wouldn't get the answers to these questions today.

Wings looked up and over at the other two, listening in on their conversation. Quietus was attempting to diffuse the situation. Explaining that what the two Midheavens were doing, was simply training. Which, she nodded affirmation to, with a simple, "Yes. Training."

Upon hearing the third Midheaven's introduction, Wings would go next. "I am Wings. Here to train. Learn. Become stronger."

"Don't stress it- I'd love to hang out with y'all," he said with a genuine smile after Sunny's talk of River.

"Nah, don't worry about it.  It's not like I have a job at the moment.  If you've got plans, you should do your plans.  Like seeing your family."

Oh- What a relief! -He thought, secretly hoping she would have declined. Not that he didn't want to spend time with her- he just really didn't want to get his hands dirty.

"Flower shop? You mean Mantis' shop?  Well, it's not hers, I think she just works there. You remember Honey Sharp?  My best friend from high school?  Mantis is her girlfriend.  Er.  Sometimes.  You ever hear someone say their relationship status is 'complicated'?  Honey and Mantis are who I think about whenever I hear that. If you see Mantis, tell her I said hi!  We're not exactly friends but she seems nice."

"Honey! I remember her- and I didn't know you knew Mantis! What a small world! So, Honey's dating the Flower Girl? Well- kind of? A complicated relationship doesn't sound fun though. Heh- but who am I to judge."

What a coincidence it was! A few flashbacks played in Akoya's head-

Honey... He wondered what she was doing.

"I talk to Mantis whenever I'm in the area. You should too- She's pretty cool. I'd say were alright friends."

"It can't rain all the time.  Give it time, it'll clear up.  But if you're on the clock today, you should probably get going. Take an umbrella, we have extra!  I'll give you a call later, okay?  Once I've talked to River and see if she's free sometime we can all meet up."

"Ah, you're right... Don't mind if I do-" He said.

Leaving the kitchen and heading towards the front door, Akoya grabbed one of the idle umbrellas.

"Sure, call me when you can- I'll see you later! And thanks for letting me stay over. Tell your parents that too."

And with that, Akoya stepped into the pouring rain, opening the borrowed umbrella.

From Sunny's house, he started on his way into town to meet Mantis at her Flower shop.

The redhead watched her friend head out and smiled fondly after him for a moment.  They'd been friends for years, thanks to their mothers' friendship, but it was still interesting seeing Akoya growing into adulthood.  She was a bit older, and girls tended to mature faster anyway, but it seemed like lately he'd been less the entirely-laid-back high school student she remembered and more...something more.  Mostly, she was glad he hadn't lost any of his best qualities growing up.

These dishes wouldn't wash themselves, though.  Sunshine tucked into the sink with a fiery passion redheads are known for, before turning her attention on the house itself.  A dozen people in one building meant there was always something to pick up, straighten, clean, wash or put away.  Half the morning was gone by the time she finished.

The youngest wouldn't be back home for hours yet.  She actually had...time.  Which meant an easy visit with River!  Maybe an early lunch or something, depending on how busy her best friend was.

Sunshine glanced down at her pajamas, considered going for a comfortable pair of jeans and a t-shirt or something.  And inevitably settled on a nice flowery yellow summer dress with little white daffodoils printed across the fabric, with a nice pair of heels and a white purse for matching.  She didn't have a lot of money or a lot of wardrobe but visiting Ethereal always made her aware of the vast class difference between herself and River.  Should she happen to run across Crystal, it didn't hurt to dress her best.  At least they got along okay.  River's father on the other hand...

Glaring slightly at the rain still washing out the landscape's colors with grey gloom, Sunshine fetched an umbrella and made her way across the neighborhood into the city proper.  Ethereal was maybe an hour's walk.  If she couldn't enjoy the view, at least she'd have a friend to see at the other end.

Upon reaching the shop, Sunshine popped her head in through the front door and peered around inside.  If Crystal was with a customer, she wouldn't dare make a sound but quietly make her way to the back.  Otherwise, she'd venture a polite "Hello?" and hope for direction.  Of course, River usually came in through the back entrance but this was such a nice place, and it was Crystal's workshop so better error on the side of too formal instead of not formal enough.

River had been hard at work on her diamond ring project, actually being able to remain focused on something for once. She desperately wanted to perfect everything about this project, the engraving, the texture, the shine. All to make her mother proud. She may not listen to authority all that often but she didn't want to ruin her mother's business by being selfish.

A bored groan escaped River's lips, she had been sitting in the same position for a while, as a result one of her feet began to tap rhythmically on the floor. She thought she deserved a break. River stretched her arms out, cracking her back in the process before jumping off of her stool. River carefully lay the ring on its velvet cushion before glancing around the workshop, making sure her mother wasn't in sight before she snook off for a breather.

River was going to stealthily exit through the front door, frankly wanting to get a quick bite to eat from the shop just over the road and too lazy to go around. As she rounded the corner, River saw an all too familiar face peaking around the doorway. The blue-haired girl internally screamed in delight before running towards the front entrance of the workshop - not caring if any customers were present.

River's eyes lit up upon seeing Sunshine and she almost knocked her over as she pulled her into a tight hug. "Sunny I'm so happy to see you!", she exclaimed as she eventually released Sunshine. River glanced over her best friend, "Who are you trying to impress dressing like that, hmm?", she jested with a grin before grabbing her by the hand and pulling Sunshine towards the back of the workshop, towards her work station.

The pair passed River's mother on the way and River gave her a cheesy smile before continuing to drag Sunshine through Ethereal. "It's nice to see you Sunshine dear!", River's mother shouted after them before returning to attend to a customer whom was pleasantly surprised at the joyful reunion of the two friends.

Upon reaching her work station, River placed her hands on Sunshine's shoulders and pushed her down to sit onto her stool. River smiled as she folded her arms across her chest, "Now tell me...how are you? What have you been up to lately? You better not have done anything interesting without me, but on the topic of interesting have you ate at that Italian place around the corner?...". A myriad of questions seemed to flow out of River's mouth, not even thinking about giving Sunshine time to answer, she was too happy at that moment at being able to see Sunshine after what seemed like forever.

Sunshine blinked in surprise at being River-rushed, as she affectionately thought of her friend's often-overly-enthusiastic charge.  Swept into a close embrace, the redhead laughed and returned the hug with equal vigor.

"Sunny I'm so happy to see you!  Who are you trying to impress dressing like that, hmm?"

"This is a nice place," Sunshine replied, as she glanced about nervously to see how much attention they'd drawn.  "The least I can do is not be a slob."

She'd been in the back of workshop more than a few times over the years so she barely glanced around when River pulled her back towards her best friend's workstation.  River's Mom received a friendly wave and a beaming smile as the pair passed her and the customer.  Right in that moment, Sunshine breathed out a sigh of relief that she'd bothered with a dress after all.  Crystal had a reputation to maintain, after all, even if River didn't always think about things like that.

Upon reaching the back of the workstation, she let herself be guided onto the stool and grinned up at the blue-haired girl.  They'd been friends for ages and that experience had long ago taught Sunshine that River liked to lead.  Or, at least, get her own way.  Not that Sunshine minded at all.

"Now tell me...how are you?"

"Oh, I'm-"

"What have you been up to lately?"

"Uh, well Akoya-"

"You better not have done anything interesting without me, but on the topic of interesting have you ate at that Italian place around the corner?..."

"Oh!"  She waited, then realized River actually expected an answer.  "I...have not!  Is it any good?  You want to get lunch or something?  You know how early my family eats so I'm up for delicious.  And I'm fine!  Busy with family stuff and...um, figuring out my next career move and...stuff."

She scratched the back of her head, feeling awkward.  As she inevitably felt given the massive change in her life with the Midheaven revelation.  Not that it was easy to talk about.  She still hadn't broached the subject with River, and keeping any secrets much less a big one for months was unprecedented.  Maybe now was time to talk?

But first...

Sunshine leaned forward in the stool and took River's hands in her own, squeezing the other girl's fingers tightly.  "Mostly, I miss you.  Stupid adult life getting in the way of seeing my bestie, especially with your Mom putting you to work full time now.  Come on, let's try the place out and you can tell me all about what you've been up to!"

River stood raising onto her tiptoes every once in a while and swaying ever so slightly back and forth, listening intently as Sunshine began answering her questions. Her smile beamed, her skin almost seemed to radiate a faint glow from her sheer happiness of being in the presence of her best friend again.

"I...have not!  Is it any good?  You want to get lunch or something? You know how early my family eats so I'm up for delicious.". River clapped her hands together excitedly, "Yes, yes, yes! It tastes sooooo good, I've been meaning to ask you to come with me there sometime but I just haven't had the chance". River's hands went to pull Sunshine into another hug, but she withdrew them, then moved them forward, and then back again. River wanted to hug her for about an hour but resolved that was probably overdoing it. She decided on just clasping her hands together to prevent her possibly suffocating her best friend; murder by hug was something she didn't want to go down for.

"And I'm fine! Busy with family stuff and...um, figuring out my next career move and...stuff", River cocked her head to the side, wondering why Sunshine was being so awkward - the pair normally told each other everything so River became intrigued. The only thing that River hadn't brought up to Sunshine was that she was a Midheaven, it isn't exactly easy to suddenly bring up the topic out of nowhere. Keeping such a thing from Sunshine made River feel guilty deep down, they shared everything with each other. But she simply didn't know how such a topic would arise, plus, recently she hadn't really had the time to do anything with her best friend honestly.

However, River brushed over the awkwardness of Sunshine, too joyous to dwell on anything that didn't involve the pair relishing each other's company. "You know Sunny...I don't bite", River said as she tapped Sunshine gently on the nose, "At least not anymore", she added with a giggle.

At that moment, Sunshine took River's hands into her own and squeezed her fingers tightly. "I know you missed me but you don't have to break my fingers to show it", she jested as she pulled Sunshine off of the stool and into another vice like hug; unable to resist the temptation of hugging her any longer. River rested her head on Sunshine's shoulder for a moment before speaking in an unusually calm voice, "I miss you too". As soon as River finished the sentence, she took a step back but still held onto one of Sunshine's hands and began pulling her towards the back door of Ethereal. "Bye Mom!", she shouted not even bothering to tell her where she was going and when she would be back. In fact, River didn't even tell Sunshine that she agreed with going to lunch with her in the first place.

The blue-haired girl didn't even bother to walk at a steady pace, instead walking briskly in the direction of the aforementioned Italian place. River looked over her shoulder towards Sunshine and used her free hand to flip her hair out of her face. "Despite working full-time, I've still managed to keep up my old ways", she smirked as they continued walking, "Recently I went cliff diving because I got bored, and I put olive oil in Finesse's shampoo. Oh my did he stink until he realised". River laughed, she didn't think she would ever grow out of being mischievous. "I've also been working hella hard on this new project my Mom gave me. I know, hard to believe I would take something seriously, but I want to do this really well".

The two now approached the quaint Italian restaurant, River returned her gaze forward and finally let go of Sunshine's hand as she went to discuss with the hostess about getting them a table. A brief time passed before River gestured Sunshine over with her hand and they were lead to their table. River glanced around the place as she sat down, the interior was decorated in a vintage style with wooden beams and high ceilings, it had low lighting to set a tranquil atmosphere, and had the classic, stereotypical Italian music playing quietly in the background. "What do you think?", River asked with a bright smile and her luminous blue eyes staring into Sunshine's.
