The Bastion
Lord Valtur/NPC
Lord Valtur watched as the room quieted down, every single person grew tense and unsure of the coming situation. It amused him to watch as dozens of his most trusted men stood still. It was almost like the room was lined with suits of armor and he was alone waiting for them. Like his men, Valtur didn't want to be anywhere near the Hunters but, alas, he drew the short straw on this one. The nobleman glanced outside the window. It was noon, he guessed. The Chroniclers should be arriving any moment now. Valtur let out a silent prayer to the All-Father, wishing that the escorts didn't do anything to agitate them.

Suddenly, the grand double doors to the Council Room opened and revealed the first of the Chroniclers. All two dozen knights somehow stood straighter than Valtur had ever seen them. Their hands gripped their spears tightly, ready to attack in case things went south. In that moment, Valtur understood why he was selected to welcome the Hunters to their new home. Only his silver tongue would have any chance of getting all parties involved through this orientation without any blood being shed. He let out one more prayer to the gods before standing, a warm false smile on his face.

"Welcome! I hope you and your companions were not troubled by the journey?"

Eva did not enter the room so much as she was shoved in. The knights escorting her already bore dented armor, and if one looked hard enough under their visors, busted lips and bruising eyes. While not strong before, Eva had been able to deal some damage before they manhandled her into this room.

"Fine, fine, I'm going!" She spat, her disdain evident. She moved her head as she paused at the entry way. Despite the blindfold covering her eyes, she still seemed to be examining the room slowly. With a very fake smile, she confidently began to saunter towards the table. On her way she stopped and regarded a knight who froze, prepared to lash out if she struck.

"I can see it. Your betrothed is cheating on you with the book keeper, you know the one."

At that she practically skipped to the table. Petty, she knew, but it helped her feel a little bit better. Especially when his face went pale and he looked positively green. She slowly made her way to an empty seat before the rest.

“Welcome! Come take a seat, I hope you weren’t troubled on your journey.”

She stopped at this, and slowly regarded the nobleman. 'He'll be the first then.' Nodding to herself, she reluctantly sat herself down. Her newfound instincts writhed uncomfortably inside her, warning her that within her vicinity there were other dangerous individuals who could kill her easily. Then again, she supposed that qualified herself now as well.

Varen sighed. Of course these idiots had to show him to a nobleman...

So, after participating in the ritual, it seemed as if he was required to do something for this peacock of a human. Wonderful. He should've anticipated that this experiment was actually a trap...

As the knights escorted him into the room, Varen eyed the other individual before him. Presumably another soul taken in by the ritual. She wore a blindfold, and her brown hair flowed back from her head, some strands covering the headband that covered her eyes. She was pretty, Varen admitted, but he had other things to focus on. Besides- she could turn out to be an idiot, or a gossiper, or...

Enough. Focus on the main threat, Auren berated himself. And with that, he turned to examine the man who had forcibly summoned him here. Or, at least, he was about to, when he heard the girl next to him speak.

"I can see it. Your betrothed is cheating on you with the book keeper, you know the one."

Hm. So this girl had the ability of Forthsight? She could see events that were happening elsewhere at the moment? Or was it simply a bluff. Either way, it seemed effective as the knight the blind girl was addressing blanched. A spiteful remark, but perhaps warranted, based on their captor's behavior. He looked at the dented armor amongst the knights. They obviously had been through a rough time. There were a few scorch marks on the armor of a few knights as well, and one or two of those few even had partially warped plates, almost as if the metal was melted, then cooled back down over time.

Of course it was melted. Varen was a pyromancer. And an angry one at that.

Those knights had attempted to bring him in with the others. At first, he fought, thinking that there was only one or two knights to dispose of. When he found out that there was actually a half dozen, and a score more waiting outside as potential reinforcements... Varen decided the odds were too high. He went peaceably with the knights, if not willingly.

With that thought in mind, he returned his cold, analyzing stare at the nobleman.

On the way to the meeting, Nondaya's anxiety was through the roof. Would she make new friends, are they like her and voluntared for this, are they followers of the church, or are they gonna hate her for her beliefs. The young nun inhaled and expelled her negative thoughts, along with her breath, and then began to sing a hymn, pulling the hood off her rope. The other nuns around joined in as one of the older ones patted Nondaya on her back,"You are a brave, Sister Nondaya. You jumped at the chance to help others, you are what I have trained to be all of my life." The older woman smiled at her and fell back into her position.

With renewed vigor, Nondaya smiled pressed forward and only taking in the positives, like eradicating monsters for the greater good.

Nondaya was the second to arrive, and along with her arrival everyone's ear's were met with the nun's harmonious voices, which was instantly silenced with a bow. An older woman stepped formed,"Lord Valtur, we are here on behalf of the church and our newly ascended tigress is her fight in the name of the church, the country, and the gods."

Nondaya stepped forward and bowed once more,"It is an honor sir!" She slightly screamed from excitement and took her seat. She looked at the others and smiled at them. She scanned them quickly and could tell if it came to it the woman would be evasive but easily taken out, but the man was thin and emitting slight heat.

"I can see it. Your betrothed is cheating on you with the book keeper, you know the one"

A slight scoff came from the nuns and Nondaya, as their eyes subtly met and rediverted from each other. Nondaya rolled her eyes and slightly slumped down in her seat,"Damn, she was right..."You could slightly hear the young nun grumble under her breath as she bite her thumb nail.

Simon's entrance was far from elegant. Practically flung into the room by the knights holding him, he stumbled but still caught himself, moving quickly to turn back towards them. Two of them had their shields raised as they backed up, acting as though they were dealing with a angered animal rather than a human. Huffing, he didn't advance any further towards them, instead straightening his clothes and turning his back to them. It seemed as though the other knights in the room hadn't had much better luck with the others that were meant to be his companions he supposed, taking in their appearance. He almost wanted to laugh when he saw that a couple of the knights even had what seemed to be melted armor. Served them right.

Starting to walk towards the desk where the noble sat, he took a look at the other three already in the room. It seemed as though two of them had the same feelings as him, not wanting to be in this situation at all, but he was curious about the third. She seemed to be... okay with her current position. Interesting. Now that he was close enough, he took a seat, leaning back and slouching into it and keeping silent. That seemed like the best way for him to get through this initial meeting. Keeping quiet. While it seemed like the others had the same feelings as him, he still couldn't be too sure. Better to get a feel of the room and his companions in general before he made any decisions about how he really felt about them .

Cardinal grumbled as he was led down the hallway by royal knights. He found himself liking these people less and less. Sure he'd killed one of them, but they'd (as far as he knew) killed his father first. He wasn't resisting, but nor was he happy. When they arrived at their destination, Cardinal turned and placed a hand on the knight's shoulder. "Thank you." He said, squeezing it as his newfound powers began to melt the pauldron. He was shoved back and the knight with the now-deformed armor left.

With a grumble, he turned to face the rest. An interesting bunch, including one who claimed to be able to see an affair. He'd never liked the idea of affairs, but shrugged and walked to the table. At the apparent nobleman's words, he frowned. No trouble? Killing one's father sure was a hell of a lot of trouble. But he bit his tongue and tried to banish those thoughts from his head.

Unfortunately, Varen's analysis of the nobleman was interrupted by the arrival of three others. Just how big was this operation? Obviously, this was at least a nationwide, if not larger, project. And obviously sketchy, due to most of the others reactions, his included. Well... except for one.

The first that came in was... Varen caught his breath for a moment. She was beau...BLIND. Yes. She was obviously blind to the fact that the others did not want to be here, and that they were coerced to do whatever the nobleman had in mind for them. And her response... her voice was.. sickening, yes, that was it... "It is an honor sir!" So excited, so unnecessary.. it caught him off guard. His analyzing stare turned into a glare, his slitted eyes balefully burning into the girl. She had yellow horns.. He could see slight static electricity coursing through it, in addition to feeling it in the air around her. Based on the people around her, the robes she was wearing... she was a nun. Varen smiled, and it was slightly predatory. Was he a disbeliever? Not necessarily- he just held unorthodox views of the gods. Still, his mind started coming up with various arguments to break the poor girl down. Wait... did I just pity her? No, I certainly did not.

Varen distracted himself by analyzing the next two that came in. These two were largely the same, in Varen's eyes. Both were muscular; the type normally associated with swordsmen. Both were the same age, or nearly so. Then again, we all are near the same age, aren't we? Varen realized. What did this trend mean? Did they think that this age was easily influenced, or able to have a maximum lifespan? Varen's lips turned down into a contemptuous sneer. He was already starting to guess the reason they were here.

But enough of that pondering. The two men, one blond, the other redheaded, both had an air that was associated with swordsmen; however, the blond one was calculating as well, taking time to examine the others. Smart, cunning. Perhaps not as much as him, but one to be careful of. Or to be careful for...

The redheaded swordsman had an open face, telling how he felt about this. Furthermore, he was brash, simmering with resentment, or both, based on his attitude with the knight. It was a futile motion, and perhaps even stupid, reckless, but it showed determination. All in all, a typical swordsman, really. Both could be used as potential meatshields. Although, he couldn't help but wonder how they were forced to partake of the ritual as well.

Eventually, Varen broke his analysis, and resumed his stare on the Nobleman. He was trouble, Varen was certain of it. Still.... Varen shook his head slightly. He guessed that he would have to grab the "bull by the horns," taking a quick glance at the horned girl, lip twitching up in some amusement.

"Alright. We're all here, I presume. I also presume you need us for some mission. Don't try to act self-righteous- a righteous person wouldn't coerce others to join his cause. What's the mission? Eradicate something of immense power?" Varen's tone was curt and peremptory; all business. He wanted this over with.
