"Hey! Hey, wake up," Heilan squatted infront of the passed out kid and patted the child's cheek a few times to confirm that the rascal really had passed out. Instead of worry, Heilan's brows rose and his lips curled into a laughing smile, "You don't think he passed out from seeing your face did he, Qinfen-xiong?" Heilan teased with a laugh as he stood back up. Seeing how Qinfen had stiffened up, Heilan took pity and slapped his friend playfully on the back. "I'm sure the kid just wore himself out. He should be fine after some rest?" Heilan shrugged, glancing at Yifeng and Suxue. While Heilan had half-expected his friends to leave the kid on some bench (the other half, knowing Suxue's kind nature would likely incite them to look out for the child til he wakes); he had never expected the words 'Heilan' and 'favor' to come out in the same sentence of Yifeng's mouth so soon.

His signature Cheshire smile grew on his lips as he leaned closer to the black-robed cultivator. "What was that Yifeng-xiong? Sorry, the sound of birds chirping are so loud. I didn't quite catch that," he grinned, relenting his teasing upon Yifeng's polite and genuine 'please'. "Alright, let this Wang Xi-Shen handle this~ Up you go," Heilan heaved the kid onto his shoulders the way a brother would a sibling. Glancing at the curious by-standers, he huffed loudly, "What? Never seen some cultivators help a poor street kid before? There's nothing to see here. Do carry on~" He hummed with a carefree wink.

Nodding at Qinfen's suggestion, Heilan brought the kid towards the noodle shop as suggested. He remained behind the group, but despite his best efforts to remain discreet, a group of cultivators---all from different sects nonetheless---was bound to be eye-catching. Fortunately, they were able to reserve a room upstairs but as Heilan set the child down, he could not help but hear the sound of clamor in the room next door. Alongside more sounds and stomping, he wondered idly what the commotion could be.

"That sounded like Nie Yixin*... but that can't be, can it?" Heilan thought to himself. No, it can't be. The Nie sect had already sent Nie Qinfen and there were no other cases here except the disappearances. Surely the Nie sect wouldn't have wasted additional cultivators on such a miniscule task. With a shake of his head, Heilan put that thought out of mind and turned back to the kid which he had laid out on the table.

"So, are you going to splash water* on him or am I going to have to do that?"

additional notes
[1] Since they're in different locations, let's assume the person he heard sounded like Yixin but isn't. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
[2] He means to wake the kid up.

『 TAGGED 』 Jin Heilan | Bai Yifeng | Nie Qinfen
While Suxue could empathize with Yifeng and his new debt with Heilan, the babe had faith in their friendship and Heilan's good(?) heart despite his mischievous attitude. Surely, he wouldn't turn Yifeng's simply request down though Suxue wondered just how far in the future it'll be until Heilan brought it up the deed again. She removed that thought from mind, knowing it would be Yifeng's burden to carry and Heilan's call to give grace.

Upon arriving at the shop, as strange as it was to lay the kid on the table like a patient awaiting operation, there were no better places to lay the child upon. Suxue hoped with a sigh that at the very least, the boy would not need to wake in startled fear as three grown men stared down upon him. She gestured for her companions to sit as they waited for the boy to wake. His attempt to rob her was still in her mind, ever the puzzlement.

What could he possibly want with Xiefang? No... what was a bigger question was, why would anyone need a cultivator's blade? From the looks of it, Suxue could tell that this kid was a simple mortal with no base of cultivation. While there may be potential for him to ascend the steps of immortality, she feared he was far too rooted in the worldly desires to even begin. The percentage of him succeeding was slimmer than 0.001%, but if immortality wasn't what he was aiming for then why else would he want a sword?

A shadow formed in the center of Suxue's pale forehead and it was Heilan's rash suggestion which had her pulling out from her thoughts.

"We shouldn't do that," Suxue replied gently, taking Heilan's words literally. "But perhaps it is time to wake him..." She said, noting how the kid would have ample time to rest by now.

Walking over, she gently patted the kid's shoulder. "Wake up," she said with a mother's voice, her eyes determined to get some answers.

Having mentally prepared himself for Heilan’s words, Yifeng didn’t bother to snap his gaze back towards the impish man. He got the job done in the end, and that’s all that mattered. Instead, the black-robed cultivator gave Nie Qinfen a nod of gratitude. With all bases now covered, he remained tacit for the rest of the trip, only tossing a few words of disagreement when Heilan suggested splashing water on the child.

Thankfully, Suxue was quick to express her dissent, instead choosing to wake the child up in the gentlest way possible. At her urging, the boy’s brows creased into a deep frown. However, the child merely turned and tucked his shoulder closer to his body to avoid her hand.

“Pinch his nose?” Yifeng suggested. While it wasn’t the best course of action to treat a child so roughly, it was the only surefire method of waking someone up that he knew, courtesy of his shifu. It was one that was cleaner and more discreet than splashing water, at least, even if it would potentially result in dealing with a cranky child.

Fortunately, as if his mind had finally recalled the situation, the young boy suddenly woke up with a shudder. His gaze wildly traveled from one face to the next, his own growing a few shades paler when his eyes landed on Suxue’s.

Realizing what was about to happen, Yifeng took a cautious step backwards, though he still attempted to warn the child: “Be-”

A second after the child flailed about on top of the table, the painful thud of a body hitting the wooden floor echoed throughout the small room. A sharp yelp immediately followed the impact.

“...careful,” Yifeng finished unhelpfully. Though the shock of the child stealing Suxue’s sword was still fresh in his mind, he couldn’t help but toss the boy a look of sympathy. On the bright side, the child had long lost the chance to flee from the room.

In a conscious effort to give the boy a less traumatic experience, before he woke up, Qinfen quietly slid back to stand behind the others. Unfortunately, his efforts to be unobtrusive as possible were unnecessary as the boy still somehow managed to get himself worked up. He winced in sympathy as the boy fell off the table with a hard thud. Little did he know that his wince looked more like an expression of annoyance rather than sympathy.

Much to Qinfen’s confusion, the boy took one look at him towering hiding behind Helian and Suxue and...panicked. The boy seemed to whimper at his confused expression (that looked more like an increasingly constipated or that of controlled irritation) before scrambling to sit on a seat. Even while sitting, rather than just an unassuming or ignorant thief, the boy more resembled the pitiful disciples waiting for Elder Lan Qiren’s wrath to befall them.

Then, without even them prompting them to, the boy practically smashed his forehead to the floor while prostrating in front of the group. Again, Qinfen couldn’t help but internally shake with anxious energy and be grateful that they thought to stow away in a private room in the noodle house. Especially, when the boy started to explain himself with as much composure as Qinfen usually has on a daily basis. Or, in his mother’s words, a floundering koi out of water.

In other words, not much at all.

“Please forgive me! I only wanted a chance to save my eldest sister! But my family can’t afford to hire cultivators. I swear on my life that I was going to give the sword back! Please don’t kill me! Actuallyifyou’regoingtokillmeatleastsavemysisterbeforesoIcandieinpeace?!”
