REANIMATORY NECROSIS
This document was produced using information gathered via field research, as well as scientific records from the Central Pathological Institute, the Homeland Crisis Authority, and the Army Medical Corps. Below are several basic guidelines on Reanimatory Necrosis virus.

1.
There is no cure or vaccine for the infection, nor will there be one in the foreseeable future.
2. The origins of the infection are unknown.
3. Any bite or infectious fluid contact with a mucous membrane will lead to a full-blown infection and zombification.
4. The infection is known to be waterborne and bloodborne.
5. Infected individuals come in both living and nonliving varieties.

PROCESSES

FULL PROCESS
CLASS 1 > CLASS 2 > DEATH (Non-cerebral) > CLASS 3

SUDDEN DEATH PROCESS
CLASS 1 > DEATH (Non-cerebral) > CLASS 3

REAPER PROCESS
CLASS 1 > CLASS 2 > CLASS 4

STAGES

CLASS 1 ("Infectee")
Individuals infected with Reanimatory Necrosis who have not entered a depersonalized state are referred to as Class 1 infected. Class 1 infected are alive, are not inherently hostile, and are essentially still human beings. They may exhibit potentially infectious symptoms such as vomiting and coughing, so they should be treated as a hazard.

CLASS 2 ("Freshie," "Runner")
Any Class 1 victim that continues to remain alive for 12-24 hours will begin to experience depersonalization, leading to the loss of higher-level reasoning. Once a Class 1 victim transforms into an aggressive psychopath, they become Class 2 infected. Class 2 individuals still remain alive, but have lost complete control of their mind and body. All individuals that have attained this stage of infection should be treated as hostile. Class 2 infected typically possess greater speed than that of Class 3 infected, and have an extremely high tolerance to pain. They can outrun most uninfected humans, as they do not tire easily. Class 2 infected can be eliminated using any method that would kill a regular human. However, if a Class 2 infected is killed without having its brain destroyed, there is a certainty that it will rise as a Class 3 ghoul after several hours. Care should be taken when it comes to dealing with Class 2 infected, as their blood is still in a liquid state, and splatters can be highly infectious. Despite the fact that Class 2 infected are technically still alive, they will not be attacked by their undead cousins.

CLASS 3 ("Ghoul," "Walker")
Any Class 1 or Class 2 victim that dies (without brain death) will reanimate into a Class 3 infected, which are colloquially referred to as "ghouls." Class 3 infected are considered nonliving, "undead" creatures that have somehow defied all logic. The only way to eliminate a Class 3 infected is to destroy their brain, as they do not need any other part of their body to continue to function. The brain does not require oxygen to survive, as it becomes coated in a strange plasma-like slime during reanimation that essentially preserves it and renders it indestructible to all but direct physical damage. Unlike Class 2 infected, they are typically only capable of moving at a slow, shambling gait. After being reanimated for about a day, their blood will become coagulated into a thick, gel-like substance, making them safer to dispatch at close ranges. The time it takes from the onset of death to reanimate can take anywhere from several minutes to several hours. Most Class 3 infected are created from Class 1 victims that are killed outright/bleed to death from bites ("Sudden Death" process), rather than remaining alive and allowing themselves to slowly transform into Class 2 infected. Class 3 infected are also created from Class 2 infected that are killed non-cerebrally, or otherwise die naturally after several weeks ("Full Process"). Sometimes, Class 3 infected are created when recently-deceased, uninfected bodies are feasted upon by other infected, which introduces the infection to the corpse. It is unknown how exactly the infection can travel through a corpse's stagnant blood stream, or reactivate their brain. Some decomposition has been noted on Class 3 infected, but they appear to be incapable of fully rotting away. Specimens from the original outbreak remain active even decades later.

CLASS 4 ("Reaper," ???)
There are reports, albeit uncomfirmed, of additional/alternate stages of the infection. The most common ones refer to "Reapers." These creatures are allegedly Class 2 infected, or "Runners" that have survived an unusually long amount of time, and have somehow regained a degree of intelligence. They stalk their victims rather than immediately charging them, and set up ambushes. They are said to be sadistic, toying with their victims and engaging in torture before actually biting or devouring them.
