On July 14th, 2016, at 11pm (France time), a large truck plowed into crowds celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, France. The attack that killed 80 people (including children) and injured many others, is being treated as a terrorist attack by the president of France. Eye witness accounts say that the truck had been zigzagging to hit as many people as possible, and authorities said that the driver (who had been killed by police) was firing at the crowd and police, and that the truck was filled with weapons and grenades, by unverified accounts claim that these were useless and that the grenades were inactive. There were reports of parents throwing their children over fences so that they would not be hit by the truck, and no group has taken blame for the attack. This was a truly horrific crime to take place. The country was already in a state of emergency that was supposed to expire on July 26th, but that has now been extended to about three extra months. The president has given a press conference about the issue, and says that his country is "At war with terrorists who want to strike us at any cost and are extremely violent."
