"..." The young boy rubbed his eyes as he sat up. He wasn't much of a morning person to begin with, and his mind swirled as he wiped the drool from his mouth. His eyes gazed around the forest covered in mist - and instantly, his hand moved to his pocket, patting down the familiar bump of his ghost's miniaturized home.

"-way, we’ll need to make our way back to the main school building by 9AM. That’s when the homeroom class for first years starts, you know. I don’t want to be late on my first day.”

He barely had time to make sense of the girl in black's words, his precocious gaze narrowing as he remembered the drive behind his actions. And naturally, he quickly regained his composure and stood, keeping those burning feelings deep within his chest as he realized that there was more in his pockets than usual. A few packaged fruit rolls, a small case containing some tools, and a compass. Ordinarily, the Pokedex could fill the latter's role. But considering its presence...

Well, it didn't matter. An experience like this would surely bring him one step closer. He checked his pockets again, finding a handwritten note and the pokeballs that had been distributed beforehand. He concentrated on his memories once more... That notable student, with the egg, he had called out to him. And how did he respond? The Kalosian scratched his head as he swallowed down his doubts and began to speak.

"...With the compass at least, we should be able to find our way back. But, moving as a group might be for the best - I'm sure most of us only have a single pokemon with us, yes?" He addressed the girl and the other boy who had woken, not quite sure if the others had been roused from their sleep. The boy decided that being dropped in the wilderness like this would also be an opportunity to bolster his team. With his hand moving to Rictus's pokeball in his pocket, he decided to head northwards. The compass only helped orient their directions, he'd still need to find a suitable landmark to get back to the dorms - hopefully what he saw during the orientation tour would reappear at an opportune time.

“Yes…” Alice responded to the red haired boy’s question by pulling out a tiny pokeball from her pocket. Pressing the center, the orb grew in size such that it fit snuggly in the palm of her hand before she threw it, releasing the pokemon inside. A flash of red erupted before a bipedal, beagle-like creature became visible, its paintbrush tail swaying from side to side. “If we are going to move following the compass, smeargle here can leave a trail—marking the trees or something—so we can find our way back if we get lost.”

With any luck, the adults on the island would notice the markings and would be able to find them as well.

“But about these guys?” She pointed to the other sleeping students. “They still haven’t woken up yet and we can’t just leave them alone, right? What if a wild pokemon attacks them? Or they catch a cold lying out here in the wilderness?”

It didn’t sit well with her just to walk off and find her way back, leaving the others to their own fates. Why were they so deeply asleep such that her attempts of waking them didn’t seem to bear fruit? Was it a drug of some sort? If that was the case, who knew when it would wear off? Should they drag the sleeping bodies with them? Build a fire to ward off predator pokemon from the area? But what if that had the opposite effect and drew pokemon in instead? Looking from the smaller, red-haired boy to the older-looking, blue-white-haired boy—who seemed understandably confused—Alice sighed. “Let’s start with names. I’m Alice Kregar, 14-years-old first year of the Articuno Dormitory. This is my painting partner, Smeargle."

“Smeargle—smeer.”
The painter pokemon greeted with a deep voice as it straightened and saluted.

Battle! Sandy + Vasco vs Mankey
340

HP: <3<3

Mankey looked around confusedly, panicking a bit as clouds of dust kicked up and spun, encircling the area with vision-obscuring sand. Unable to locate its target, Mankey stopped throwing the berries and simply squinted its eyes as it did its best to brave the whirling of sands. Confusion gave way to anger and more angry monkey screeches filled the night sky as mankey tried to [Taunt] its target into attacking. Goading insults delivered in poke-speech, far too profane for a normal child's ear, meant to lure Vasco out of hiding into a trap. Or rather a tree. For behind the screeching primate pokemon was a sturdy trunk that would surely hurt if the small dragon were to charge into it, blinded by rage. Of course, that was assuming, Mankey didn't trip a taunted Vasco into the tree itself.

Loy looked around at the group of unconscious students around them. What could have caused this? It seemed much more serious than a Jigglypuff's song, or anything like that. And hadn't he heard something about Jigglypuff drawing on the faces of its victims? He quickly reached up to touch his face to check for a fake mustache or anything of the sort, but, looking around, he saw that the other students hadn't been drawn-on, either, so it seemed very unlikely. That was, at least, one possibility eliminated. Not that he thought a single Jigglypuff could drag all of them out into the woods like this, either...

Shaking that train of thought from his head, he rose slowly to his feet. Slowly, slowly now... and steady. Well, didn't seem like he'd suffered a blow to the head, either. He'd had a concussion before, and that felt different than this did, now. So... what was it that had caused this sudden sleep with seemingly no lasting effects? Hypnosis? A Drowzee, maybe...

Before he let himself chase that thought, he realized that the girl - Alice - had spoken, introducing herself. "Ah- yes. Aloysius Le Fay, first year Zapdos. I'm a bit of a late arrival," he said, rubbing the back of his head and smiling gently. He knew that his age made him appear much older than a first year, but the truth was the truth. Now, what to do about these other students... "I... suppose we could just try waking them again?" he proposed, going around to shake the others once more in the hopes that it would work.

Aiden Little
At first, there was an older man, or perhaps a teenager, and his light-colored Vulpix, then there was darkness. It was abrupt and sudden. What felt like minutes turned out to be hours. There was complete silence the whole time Aiden was in the dark. Maestro was not fairing any better as he too fell into a slumber of sorts. The pair were kept together but whisked away somewhere.

Maestro's eyes popped open when he heard leaves and twigs shuffling and voices being spoken. A little startled with the sudden change of events, the bird Pokemon stood up and spotted Aiden right next to him. He jumped onto his head and lifted his wings up to almost make his size appear larger. The Chatot understood this was a weird turn of pace and there were strangers around him. With the time being later in the night, Chatot's vision was not the best. Maestro eyed the individuals who were speaking close by then as he stayed standing on Aiden's head. Three individuals were standing up and talking while Aiden along with three others were still lying around. His attention returned to the three who were awake and he began squawking at them believing that they were the culprits for the others resting.

Upon hearing Maestro crying, Aiden felt his whole body awaken. His eyes shot open and he sat up quickly that his companion Pokemon had to jump and fly off to re-settle himself on top of the boy's head. "Who? What? Where am I?" Aiden turned his head left and right to gather his surroundings. He saw trees and bushes all around him. No distinct landmarks or signs of civilization. Then he noticed three others lying on the ground close to him. Finally his eyes landed on the three people in front of him. "Did you guys do this?" But as he began pointing a finger at the three individuals in front of him, he recognized the older person Maestro had approached earlier. "You guys didn't do this, did you?" Aiden's voice finally softened as he stood up from the ground and brushed off the dirt from his clothes. On the other hand, Maestro's feathers were still poofed up and his eyes were eyeing the others.

Sandy Venedici
"Yes! Sandy crowed as she watched the mankey flail helplessly in the sandstorm's grip. Sandy was concerned when the mankey opted to taunt, it was the kind of tactic that would likely prove effective on Vascoe given his fiery personality, but the stout little gible was able to shake off the insults this time, perhaps the noise of the sandstorm drowned them out for the most part?

"Okay V!" Sandy called down to her partner, raising her voice to pierce through the veil of whirling sand. "He's by that tree! Use dig to come up underneath him!"

On the ground floor Vasco heard Sandy's comman and complied, tearing into the soft, forest earth with his sharp claws, tunneling down and then towards the mankey like an earthborne shark chasing down a swimmer. Although Vasco couldn't see underneath the ground he was more sensitive to vibrations in the earth and he knew roughly where his opponent was as a result. Vasco's tunneling took him underneath the mankey, then he began to rise, aiming to resurface right under the mankey's feet and attack.

“Nice to meet you, Aloysius” Alice responded to Zapdos student among them as he tried to wake up the others—to little success. Only one student managed to wake up: the kid with the chatty bird pokemon from her dorm. Little wonder he did, considering all the noise his chatot was making. Alice dragged her gaze from the squawking bird to its trainer who spoke in a language she could understand. “We did not.”

Though, she would very much like to get the names of the ones who did. Reporting them to the teachers seemed like a reasonable response to the injustice heaved upon them just before their very first day of class. Then again, was it a good idea to make enemies of older students? Bad pranks were annoying to be sure, but Alice had no desire to make her school life on RBY Island any more difficult than it had to be.

She just wanted to paint pokemon.

“We’re just as confused as you are,” While Alice explained the situation to Aiden Little, smeargle attempted to do the same for the poofed up bird pokemon on Aiden’s head. “The way I see it, since the others are still sleeping, we have two options: We carry them with us while we try to find our way back to campus or we leave them in safe location while we do so. If they don’t wake up or find their way back on their own, we could let the teachers know where they are.” Alice glanced down at the sleeping boys. “Conversely, we could take them with us…there’s only 3 of them and 2 don’t look too big…”

She looked to Alain and Aloysius. “What do you guys think?”

She had noticed a small cave nearby where they could leave the others, but exactly how safe it was had yet to be seen. Probably safer than out in the open, right?

Choices: To split or not to split?
NPC is giving you options! (since 3 of our players don’t want to wake up yet and I don’t feel like retconning =P) Depending on what your character chooses to do the direction of the episode will change.
  1. Carrying them will hinder progress and slow travel, but they will be with the group if/when the characters decide to wake. Everyone makes it back to class on time (maybe) whether they are able to roleplay or not and ensure their safety.
  2. Going on ahead will split the original group if/when the characters decide to wake, but will allow quicker/easier travel. Whether the other characters make it back to class on time is up to them.
  3. Come up with your own ideas. It’s what the characters choose to do that drive the plot after all =P

Battle! Sandy + Vasco vs Mankey
340

HP: <3<3

Mankey felt the tremor of the earth beneath its feet even before Vasco emerged from the ground. In an amazing show of dexterity, the monkey pokemon flipped backwards and countered with a [Karate Chop] to the head just as Vasco popped out of the earth as if playing whack-a-mole with the other pokemon. Seeing that it’s opponent was nearly down for the count, Mankey rushed in with another [Karate Chop] to finish the job.

Sandy Venedici

"Damn!" Sandy hissed as her and Vasco's gambit failed and the gible took a solid hit. But there was no time to switch tactics or come up with anything fancy, the mankey was already closing back in to land another hit and Sandy could tell Vasco was reaching the limits of his stamina, one more hit would probably finish him off. "Vasco! Use Dragonclaw!" Sandy yelled urgently. This straightforward attack would be easy to execute under pressure and was probably Vasco's strongest move, if they could rely on any one technique to pull them out of a tight spot it was probably this one.

On the ground Vasco was still dazed from the karate chop, but he heard Sandy's command and responded, his right hand suddenly glowing with crackling, blue energy. The energy around Vasco's hand charged up from a tiny spark to an angry fireball as the Mankey closed in and when the two pokemon were mere inches from each other Vasco lunged forward himself and slashed with his glowing hand.
