Zapdos (First Year)
Full Name: Gray Luster
Gender: Male
Age: 12
Year: 1
Height: 4'9"
Weight: 88 lbs
Gray v2.pngHometown: Aspertia City (Briefly)
Dormitory: Zapdos
Personality: Gray is a mild-mannered boy who doesn't stand out very much. While he doesn't have much experience socializing with other people, he always does his best to be kind and respectful. He wouldn't describe himself as introverted, but there are times when he prefers to be alone with his thoughts. Whether reading in silence or taking a walk at night, the moments of peace help take his mind off the many things in his life that cause him discomfort.

Gray is constantly living in the shadow of his parents and older siblings, which has led to him developing an inferiority complex. Unable to live up to the expectations that people have of him, he views himself as a failure. Even so, he continues to do everything that his parents ask, even if the results he produces are unsatisfactory. He dislikes being the center of attention, his complex making it difficult to deal with situations where many eyes are on him.

With much of his time spent taking lessons and following orders, Gray hardly gives any thought to his own desires. In the rare moments that he is able to speak his mind and consider what he wants, the boy is left speechless. Aside from knowing that he doesn't have any interest in his family's business, he has no idea what he wants.

When it comes to Pokémon, Gray doesn't have the same passion many others do. With a family that deals heavily in fields pertaining to Pokémon, Gray is expected to follow suit by those around him, continuously facing pressure to succeed in some form. However, the boy doesn't have much interest in anything about them, or following in the footsteps of his relatives. Still, he does find genuine enjoyment in being around Pokémon. Due to his past experiences, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to say that he likes being around them more than people. This is especially true when it comes to his partner.

Gray and V share a very close bond, always together throughout each day. After saving V's life and raising him since birth, the Pokémon is very affectionate towards its trainer, never leaving his side. V is the only one that Gray is able to talk to and show true happiness around, forgetting about the pressure that rests on him whenever they are together. The two are inseparable, nothing that one wouldn't do for the other.

Background:
The youngest of six children, Gray was born into the famed Luster family, their name and achievements spreading across each region. It was a reputation that began with the hard work displayed by the heads of the household, their offspring doing the same when the torch was eventually passed. While the name itself brought a fair amount of prestige, each child managed to gain notoriety of their own, standing out from the collective group by accomplishing great feats in the field that they had chosen to pursue. The name became synonymous with success, adding to the expectation that everyone who shared their blood was meant to possess talent and obtain glory. Those expectations, held by the family and the people that knew their name, would also apply to Gray.

The Luster children all seemed to shine in their own unique way, having a certain trait that just made people gravitate towards them. Gray followed in the footsteps of his older siblings, living in the same environment and receiving the same lessons from their parents. In terms of upbringing, they were the same. However, in any other circumstance, the difference was clear. Gray simply didn't have the spark that the rest did.

In a family of superstars, Gray was the odd one. In his own words, and the ones of those around him, he was average. Plain, unremarkable, and dull. It was as if the well of talent had run dry, the youngest child lacking any quality that separated him from the crowd. He couldn't keep up. In comparison to the shine that the others gave off, he was little more than a campfire, the light from its dying flames eclipsed by the rays of a shining sun.

In a house filled with eccentric personalities, Gray was fairly normal. He wasn't particularly quiet, but it was hard to maintain a presence when his brother and sisters seemed to always have a spotlight on them. While the relationships he shared with them ranged from varying degrees of bad to decent, they were all aware of the gap that existed between them, which would either earn him pity or contempt. His parents, however, didn't place too much focus on their youngest's ineptitude.

Regardless of his lacking performance, they had expectations of him, and he would need to live up to them. Whether it was from tutors or his parents themselves, Gray followed the Luster curriculum that covered various fields until he chose a specific subject to focus on like the others did. While he absorbed information well, putting it into practice proved difficult. There was no burning passion within him, nothing he could strive toward.

It wasn't very shocking that Gray would eventually develop an inferiority complex. No matter what he did, the boy simply couldn't measure up. It was disheartening, being made to prepare for a future that he wasn't interested in or cut out for. Even so, he would continue.

Eventually, the time came when his parents informed him that he would be attending the RBY boarding school in order to further his education. It wasn't up for him to decide, his own feelings on the matter being irrelevant. Well, he wasn't against the idea. Each of his siblings left home for a time, setting off for a different region. He actually felt relieved. It would give him a chance to get away from everything. Gray wanted separation from his family and the expectations that weighed down on him.

Strengths:
Despite his lackluster abilities, Gray can memorize information fairly well, making him gifted when it comes to studying. Subjects such as math come easy to him for this reason, but he falls short in other areas. When it comes to Pokémon battling and similar fields, he finds it difficult to put what he has learned into practice.

Aside from having a good memory, Gray is a decent cook, often making Poké Puffs and other treats for V. While he may have had a privileged upbringing, he has plenty of experience with housework.

Gray does well when it comes to nurturing his Pokémon, treating them with great care. This can also be seen in how he raises his plants, as he has taken up gardening as a small hobby.

Weaknesses: Indecisiveness, low self-esteem, and lack of confidence.

Fears: Since most of his life has been planned for him, Gray often becomes indecisive when left to his own devices. He is afraid that things will stay this way forever, being a disappointment without any goals of his own.

1st Pokemon: V

V.png

While the Luster family was well-known for its accomplishments, they possessed another trait that added to their fame. Each member of the esteemed family was partnered with a Pokémon from the Eevee evolutionary line. There came a time in each child's life when they would receive their destined companion, bred from the two Pokémon that fought alongside their mother and father. Despite his many shortcomings, Gray would also be given an Eevee of its own. Even if the boy was disappointing in many ways, the child of two champion Pokémon would certainly pick up the slack. At least, that was the plan.

Much like Gray, this Eevee was unable to measure up to its siblings. Small and frail, the runt was neglected by the mother. Deprived of care, it wouldn't last much longer. Upon seeing this, Gray's father could only sigh, disappointed with how things had turned out. A member of the Luster family couldn't be given something like that. It was truly a shame that things had turned out in such a way, as the Pokémon's beautiful silver coat would've been a welcomed addition to their family. Receiving an apology from his father, Gray was promised a new one within the next few months, planning to do away with the newborn.

Hearing his father's words while watching the creature, something was triggered within the boy. For the first time, he grew bold enough to speak out against the man, requesting that he be allowed to keep the Pokémon that would soon be cast aside. It was hard to say what exactly caused Gray to do something so uncharacteristic, usually only able to reply to his father with a silent nod and do as he was told. Maybe it was how much of himself he saw in that Eevee, or the simple inability to turn away from a living being that was in need of care.

It took a great amount of convincing until his father would relent, allowing his child's selfish request after seeing how odd he behaved. It was the first time he had ever asked for something. If the boy was so determined to keep the Pokémon, he would let it be. However, it would be his responsibility to raise it into a champion that was worthy of being a Luster. The same went for Gray himself.

Without the aid of his family or the Eevee's mother, Gray took it upon himself to raise the newborn, now known as "V". Every moment of his spare time was dedicated to improving its health, feeding it and keeping it warm at night. It was an arduous task, but he never considered giving up. Even if he couldn't explain why, he felt like this was something that he had to do.

After a long period of rehabilitation, V grew to be healthy and full of energy, frequently showing its gratitude to the one who had saved its life. Many of his family members considered it to be a wasted effort, as the creature was still weak in comparison to those that surrounded it, much like their youngest sibling. However, Gray didn't pay much attention to their words. Whenever he saw V's cheerful expression, coupled with its coat of shining silver, he knew he had made the right choice. Whenever he was with his partner, he truly felt happy.

Hue Luster: Patriarch of the Luster family. As the head of a major conglomerate, he manages the family's many business ventures. From Pokémon item production to fast food chains, he has his hands in everything, making him extremely busy. He was once considered a world-class battler as he challenged many opponents alongside his Jolteon.

Livia Luster- Wife of Hue, and mother to their many children. Once a famous battler with her Vaporeon, she's now known for her career as a fashion designer. She captured a great amount of attention for the outfits she wore into battle, and the notoriety she earned then has followed her since. From dresses to handbags, the products she designs are highly sought after, always selling out in Kalos boutiques. Much like her husband, she is a very busy person, her lifestyle and distant personality leaving her with little time to spend with her family.

Scarlett "Letty" Luster- The eldest of the Luster siblings, Scarlett picked up from where her parents left off and shot to the top of the battling world with her Flareon. The winner of multiple Regional Leagues, her talent is recognized by many people around the world, the woman proving worthy of the title of Champion time and time again. Many believe that her skill is second only to that of her younger brother, as she has never defeated her sibling despite several attempts.

With an unshakable confidence and burning passion, she is a fearsome opponent, never showing any hesitation during battle. This confident nature has resulted in many admirers. She is aware of her abilities and takes pride in being at the top of the competitive battling world. Even so, her determination to improve is not dwindled by her success, as she always puts in effort to grow stronger. Part of that is owed to an inferiority complex that only surfaces at the mention of her brother. While her talent and drive are admirable in many respects, the frustration she feels has contributed to a more ruthless side of her personality that is seen in the company of her family, most notably around her youngest brother. She does not tolerate weakness in any form, even if she may be related to the one showing it. Simply put, it disgusts her.

Matte Luster: First-born son of the Luster family. While he and his Espeon have made enormous waves in the competitive battling scene, he hasn't had as much time in the limelight as his older sister. This is due to his unpredictable nature, always appearing and disappearing at a moment's notice, quick to earn the title of champion and immediately discard it in pursuit of his next adventure. A vagabond of sorts, he's constantly hopping from place to place as he travels across the world. He'll often appear on tv whenever people rush to locations he's rumored to be. He's always been in love with the journey instead of the destination, enjoying the freedom and companionship of one big adventure.

Lea Luster- Pokémon professor and one of the Luster's twin daughters. Lea possesses a brilliant mind that goes well with her inquisitive nature. Called a genius and prodigy by many, her talents as a researcher have not gone unnoticed by the world and her fellow colleagues. Able to process information at a fast rate, she is a multitasker that completely immerses herself in whatever catches her interest. Her devotion to her research is great enough for others to sometimes view her as antisocial or a shut-in, which holds some merit due to some difficulties when interacting with others.

Lea is very open-minded and is quick to adopt new ideas, which pairs well with her work and inquisitive mind. It has led to her decision to study several different fields of information both related and unrelated to Pokémon. Her most noticeable accomplishments deal with her investigations into the nature of the energy that causes phenomena in the world, such as Evolution. Her ability has led to her papers being published in reputable scholarly journals and many of her findings have been adopted by universities. She has very few assistants, but her most valued partner is her Leafeon.

Lia Luster- Doctor and the younger twin sister. Having gained a sizable reputation for diagnosing and treating patients, Lia is a well-respected member of the medical community who treats both humans and Pokémon. She is the doctor of choice for many influential people, being the only person they and their Pokémon will completely trust. Her understanding of the body is owed just as much to her years of study as her natural talent. As popular as she is, her good bedside manner doesn't always extend to public settings. Out of all her siblings, she takes after her mother the most, almost always cold and aloof. She's dedicated to her work above all else, and isn't very sensitive to the feelings of others. Not many people can get as close to her as her Glaceon.

Linnea "Lin" Luster- Famous idol and Pokémon coordinator. Linnea is known for her ability to bring out the shine in her Pokémon, easily captivating an audience's attention with her partner's charm, as well as her own. While she's the youngest sibling, she's just as accomplished as the others. On top of her normal activities, she's successfully branched out into singing, acting, and modeling, enjoying every new challenge with her cheery personality. Appearing in countless magazines, movies, advertisements, and live shows, the world's eyes are always on her and her Sylveon.

"I belong only to the winter and cold."

Full Name:
Noel Whiterock

Gender:
Female

Age:
13

Year:
1

Height:
140cm

Weight:
30kg

Hometown:
Circhester

Dormitory:
Zapdos

Personality:
Noel is cold on the outside, mainly focusing on her research. This doesn't mean that she isn't willing to help others, as long as it's quick and brief and doesn't take too much of her time. One could say that there is no warmth inside her either - not that she's cruel or anything, it is just that she is more focused on herself than any potential relationships.
Noel wears light clothes in the chilling cold, and even lighter clothes in the heat of the sun. She does not care what others think. That's just how she lives.

Background:
Noel comes from a family of researchers that wanted to delve deep into Regional Variants and related topics, such as when a Pokemon stops being a Regional Variant and starts being its own species with its own Pokedex number. While her parents were from outside Circhester and moved there down the line, Noel lived there, sheltered her whole life, so her body would sync with the extreme colds of its surrounding environments. The only times she ever saw anything from outside the cold regions of Galar was when her parents brought Pokemon back to the lab. Due to this, she has began to feel cold like how all else feel everything else, at the cost of being more sensitive to heat. Her sensitivity to fires got her thinking of some things.
While her family continues to dig into the bigger picture, Noel wants to learn what causes a Pokemon to gain an Ice-typing or lose a Fire-typing, be it in an instant or through generations. With that, she chose to come to RBY Academy to hone her skills - her first time truly venturing the outside world.

Strengths:
Expert Analyser
Natural Ice-type Specialist
Well-researched

Weaknesses:
Antisocialism
Low EQ
Cold, cold Ice Queen.

Fears:
Fire.

"Hell yeah! Let's get it started!"

Full Name: Sasha Kersey
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Year: 1
Height: 5'9
Weight: 135
Appearance: The picture mostly sums it up, though his hair is blonde.
Hometown: Castelia City, Unova
Dormitory: Moltres

Personality: One of Sasha's more prominent traits is his overwhelming passion - for battling, in this case - which pushes him to constantly improve himself and do better, to the point of overexertion. He is also a firm believer that you need to be entirely in tune with your pokemon to ensure proper growth. To Sasha, cultivating and nourishing a genuine relationship between himself and his pokemon is just as important as physical training. People who mistreat their pokemon or simply consider their pokemon to be tools deeply anger Sasha. While not a delinquent, he is definitely vulgar due to his upbringing, which he more or less embraces. Sasha has no plans on conforming to fit other people's ideals, preferring to act and behave in a way that is true to himself, showcasing his sense of confidence. This trait is complimented by the fact that he prefers to rely on solely himself and his pokemon, rather than turning to or openly asking others for assistance unless absolutely necessary. This lack of relying on others means that he could get into trouble easily if he bites off more than he can chew. Sasha is also an openly emotional and expressive person in social settings. Even so, he manages to be calculated and focused while battling - though, this doesn't mean that his burning passion goes away. Sasha loves hyping both his pokemon and himself up during battle, as it makes things much more exciting and increases morale.

Sasha personally wishes to attain great heights when it comes to battling. Becoming one of the most powerful and experienced battlers is his dream, but he knows there's a lot to work towards. Even so, he'll hold onto that dream with all of his being. Though, he definitely wouldn't want to do it alone. He loves his Axew, Labrys. After all, Labrys is the only one who was there for Sasha in his youth. Not only that, but Labrys is the one who made Sasha's mild interest in battle turn into a raging wildfire of passion. Sasha thinks of Labrys as family. His only family.

Backstory: Sasha only ever knew his parents long enough so that he could remember their faces. He never felt any love for them, especially after they were. After all, they had brought him into this world only to betray him. Having been born in the slums of Castelia City, his life was shaping up to be a difficult one. His birth itself was most likely unintentional, so his parents hadn't really planned to raise him properly from the start, abandoning him entirely at the age of 7. An extremely young child being left alone in the slums was a recipe for disaster. In fact, he's lucky he had even survived, scrounging around for scraps and eating what little he could - even stealing from others to get by. Though, this strength only allowed him to hold on for so long before his body eventually began to start giving in. Sasha truly believed that he would die there, sitting in an alleyway in the slums, forgotten and remembered by no one. That was, until a tiny little Axew wandered by one day. They met eachother's gaze, but Sasha couldn't bring himself to say anything. The Axew didn't look necessarily too malnourished, as if it was just getting by - it was surviving, much better than Sasha was. Just like Sasha, that Axew was most likely abandoned, left to live in the slums for the rest of its life. After staring at eachother for what felt like a minute, the Axew moved on.

A day later, the Axew came back to Sasha, who hadn't even noticed they had returned at first. In Axew's mouth was a large piece of bread, most likely stolen. Of course, the thought didn't even cross Sasha's mind. After all, they needed to survive, right? To Sasha's surprise, the Axew offered over the entire piece of bread, letting out an encouraging cry. "Ax!"

Sasha wasn't sure what to think. His only reaction at that point was to start crying. He never received any sort of kindness from his mother and father, they stopped giving him any food or water once he was able to move on his own. The act of compassion from this Axew moved Sasha. As the Axew sat next to Sasha, making sure he ate the bread, Sasha felt as if he needed to repay the favor. Thus, he ripped the bread in half, giving a piece back to Axew. The Axew took the piece and stared down at it, dumbfounded, before turning its gaze back up to Sasha with a genuine smile. From this point on, Sasha and Axew were family. They could rely on one another, always.

It didn't take long for him to give the Axew, now Labrys, a name. In fact, it was the first name Sasha asked about, and she accepted it without a second thought. What happened during their encounter was enough to jump-start Sasha and encouraged him not to give up. He would continue to survive, with Labrys at his side. Being paired together made it much easier for them to find food and water, with Labrys actually being able to protect Sasha to come degree. It went on like this for a few years. Sasha began battling with Labrys when he was 10. At this point, he had already found a pokeball to "catch" Labrys in, though she preferred staying outside of it like they were used to, with Sasha now being able to carry Labrys arround on his shoulder. In the slums, people held matches and wagered money. Sasha and Labrys had watched these matches many times before, but they had never had the guts to actually think about participating. Sasha eventually decided that if he and Labrys were going to get anywhere in life, they needed money, and this was how they were gonna do it.

So, he entered his first battle with Labrys, and.. they actually won it. They were surprised, themselves. But not only did they win, they managed to hype up the crowd as well. So what did Sasha do? He battled again, and again. Some matches he lost, but he just came back stronger, with a strategy in mind. Over the years he battled, he built up a name for himself in the decently sized community of the slums. He was a battler, alright. Not only that, but he and Labrys realized their passion. He hyped up the crowds, he got money, he did what he enjoyed, he was with Labrys. Not only that, but he was able to get close to some of the people in the slums. They taught him how to read, about the outside world, what it was like. Sasha was amazed. Apparently, there was an entire league of powerful trainers, just waiting to be conquered. Labrys was obviously intrigued too. So, they made a deal. They would work to become stronger, and they would shoot for the top - though, they didn't exactly know where to start. At this point, Sasha left the slums quite frequently with Labrys. Now that he had money, he could actually visit stores and the like.

It took some research, but eventually Sasha found out about RBY academy. He decided that this would be his chance to make it big, or make an attempt to, at least. After being accepted into the academy, he said goodbye to his life in the slums and each person he'd grown fond for. Would he miss them? Yes. But he knew it was for the best. With Labrys - his family - with him, Sasha's spirit would be unwavering. "Watch me! I'm gonna make somethin' of myself. I'm climbing to the top!"

Strengths:
Sasha is a strategic battler, analyzing the win conditions and deciding on what needs to be done depending on the scenario. He also has a real knack for street smarts and common sense. He can usually tell just by someone's demeanor what their true intentions are. Overall, he can read people and deal with them pretty well. Sasha is also very in-tune with his pokemon and absolutely values his relationship with them.

Weaknesses: To no one's surprise, Sasha is an idiot when it comes to book smarts. The most he can do is read, but when it comes to things like math or anything more complex, he's entirely in the dark. Sasha more or less wont rely on other people for help, refusing it almost every time. If he thinks there's even a sliver of a chance he can do it himself, he's gonna try. Also, a massive unwavering confidence. A fight he can't win? As if. Which means he'll take fights he definitely can't win.

Fears: Being abandoned. Losing Labrys would be the end of his world, as she means everything to him.

Moltres (First Year)
Name: Alain Villenueve

Gender: Male

Age: 10

Appearance:
RedBoy.jpg

Home Region: Kalos

Hometown: Route 14

Likes (3+): Making friends, playing board games, sweet food

Dislikes (3+): Being alone, studying, spicy food.

Hobbies: Battling, reading for enjoyment, long walks.

Skills/Talents/Strengths: Underneath his seemingly carefree demeanor lies a tactical mind suited for battling. Although lacking in actual experience, Alain takes to battling like a fish to water. His natural charisma also helps him bring out the most in his Pokemon. The circumstances of his upbringing have also imparted a sort of fearlessness with him.

Weaknesses/Flaws/Fears: Alain also possesses a terrible work ethic that makes actually passing classes a struggle - were it not for practical exams he'd likely flunk out. Which is, of course, one of his biggest concerns at the moment. His fearless disposition combined with his foolish tendencies can also land him in serious danger.

General Background: There was a once a woman, a ballerina who stunned Kalos with her skill and dedication to the art of dancing. Though a rising star, she never once grasped happiness. After a certain point in her career, she felt like little more than a porcelain doll only fit as decoration on stage. Of course, this all changed upon a chance meeting with a certain man. He was a travelling Trainer from Kanto. Cheerful and outgoing, he dragged her out of her melancholy. The subsequent romance they shared was passionate and hidden from the public eye. And although he possessed a certain wanderlust, the woman was confident that she'd give him a reason to stay. Especially once she had revealed that a child was on the way...

And yet, despite his joyous reaction to the news, that man simply vanished this day - he had apparently departed from the region and left only a single, vague letter. This, combined with the pressures of her career and the toll that the pregnancy took on her body, caused a nervous breakdown in the woman. She was quickly institutionalized after giving birth to healthy baby boy and perhaps could be considered as good as dead to the public eye.

The boy, left without a mother nor a father to care for him, was left in the care of a family friend - an old man who lived alone in a solitary house on Route 14 who scared curious travelers with scary stories. The boy spent much of his days playing with the wild Pokemon in the area - particularly ghosts. That tendency, combined with the reputation of that lonely house, perhaps led to the boy being ostracized by the other children who resided in Laverre town.

After reaching the age of 10, this boy was told the tale of his parent's tragic romance. Armed with this knowledge and a partner at his side, the young boy decided upon attending RBY rather than a Kalosian institute for two reasons. The first was to become accustomed to the rigors of travelling as a prospective trainer. The second, of course, was to perhaps some years down the line, find his father. What he intends to do upon finally meeting him, however, is a secret only known to him/

Future Goal: Undecided

About the Pokémon
First/Chosen Pokémon: Gastly

Nickname (Optional): Rictus

Appearance:
gastly_by_zoemoss-d34lhwy.jpg

Likes (2+): Poké Puffs, playing pranks, old houses, battling

Dislikes (2+): Idling around, scrappy Pokémon, regular berries

Relationship with trainer: Although Rictus has only been Alain's Pokémon for a while, they've been the best of friends for years now. Rictus's mischievous nature complements Alain's playful personality and both share a mutual love of battling.

Moltress, Articuno, or Zapdos?
Articuno

What is your character’s favorite pokemon type?
Steel.

Favorite Legendary?
Deoxys

What pokemon would you say your character most resembles? Why?
Rockruff. Playful and friendly, but they both hide surprising resilience underneath their cute exteriors.

What does your character hope to gain from joining RBY Institute?
Alain hopes to hone his burgeoning battle skills and expose himself to the world outside of Route 14. He also hopes that he can actually make friends and lifelong relationships here.

How does Pokémon affect your character’s life?
The wild Pokémon of Route 14 have served as constant companions to Alain from a young age. They've both played and protected him - it's hard to say where he'd be without them.

Describe how your character caught their first Pokémon:
"Mm? Alain, m'boy, you're home already?"

A slam of the door was the young boy's answer to his 'grandpappy'. The dandy gentleman placed his hat on his head with a soft sigh. Such an occurrence wasn't out of the ordinary for the boy. And although he tried as best as he could to raise the boy well and right, the stigma that came from living in this house would never quite leave Alain. Comforting another was difficult when you played an indirect role in their misery after all. And that's why he wasn't surprised at all when a certain, chilly apparition crept into the house.

"...There's only so much I can do before he inevitably leaves the nest..."

***
Quiet sobs echoed in the small room of that lonely house. Another day of school and another day of loneliness. Another day of playing catch against the wall. Another day of eating lunch alone. No matter how friendly he was, they simply shunned him as the 'Ghost Boy'.

"Gassss....."

The boy dried his tears upon the blanket of his bed and sat up. An ethereal, otherworldly face slowly phased through the wall with a malicious grin. Alain remained still, his eyes focused on the ghostly being. The air between was fraught with silence. And then, the creature swiftly closed the distance between them. Its mouth, curved into a perpetual grin, opened wide and...!

"Gyahaha! K-Knock it off Rictus!"

Where there were sobs were now replaced with uproarious laughter as the Gastly licked the boy with its spectral tongue. The boy brought the comparatively enormous orb of gas into a tight hug as he slowly calmed down. It was only now that he realized the weight of the objects in his pocket. He was nine years old and his birthday was steadily approaching.

"Say, Rictus. I'm going to be ten soon. And that means that I become a Trainer. And, as much as I like playing with you and the others, I want to leave here and see the rest of the world. Grandpappy was thinking of enrolling me at one of those really fancy academies too." The boy pulled out a Poké Ball with a soft sigh.

"...I don't want to say goodbye, but I'm not sure if I'd be the right trainer for you... But that's enough of that. Sorry, I brought up something so heavy, it's just been on my mind for a while. Now let's pla-"

"Gaaassssstly!"

The Ghost Pokémon gave him another good look before motioning towards the Poke Ball he held. As far as it was concerned, the boy was his favorite human. The sort that he wouldn't be averse to accompanying. When the boy raised up the device, he pressed the button against his face.

In his small hands, the ball shook. Once. Twice. Thrice. And then, a click as it locked. No words had been exchanged. But the boy had come to an understanding with the ethereal creature. He was no longer just a best friend for the boy, he was willing and ready to be his partner as well. As the Poké Ball shrank, Alain held it close to his heart. Regardless of what the future would hold, he'd be able to get through it with Rictus at his side.

Moltres (First Year)
Full Name: Sandy Venedici
Gender: Female
Age: 12
Year: 1
Height: 4'7"
Weight: 84 lbs
Appearance:
Sandy.png

Hometown: Goldenrod City
Dormitory: Moltres
Personality: Most people find Sandra Venedici (or Sandy as she prefers) to be difficult to get along with and and her past is littered with report cards that use phrases like "Doesn't play well with others" or "reacts violently to authority figures and discipline" or "Bites". Put simply Sandy is at most times a bundle of barely contained aggression ready to be unleashed at anything that gets between her and what she wants. What Sandy wants most of all is to be free, she grew up idolising the old school trainers, the ones who at 12 got a pokemon and a map if they were lucky and then were tossed into the long grass to roam the continent like feral little bandits. To a rich girl with an overbearing Father it sounded like paradise: just you, your pokemon and the open road and if anyone wants to tell you otherwise then they better have stronger pokemon than you. Sandy suspects on a deep level that for all the grownups like to talk about rules, about appearances, about love and friendship that what really matters is strength. If you are strong you only have to answer to anyone stronger than you and if there's no one stronger than you than you are totally, blissfully free. So Sandy will be the strongest. If it takes a little longer these days then it sued to then fine. If she has to grind out an education through some snooty, pretentious pokemon school then FINE. She won't enjoy it, but she wont let it stop her.

Background: Marco Venedici is these days a wealthy and respected businessman, albeit one with a famous temper, but there are some... unsavoury rumours about the man's past. There are rumours that Marco started out as a petty thug, that he rose through the ranks of Goldenrod's city underworld by cracking skulls and swinging fists and that it was only at the peak of his criminal career that he quietly transferred his ill gotten gains into legitimate businesses. Just rumours though, of course, but rumours can be very persistent so Mr. Venedici manages his reputation very carefully. He rubs elbows with the right people, donates to the right causes and campaigns and projects, dresses well but not in a flashy or gaudy way and he has raised his daughter in such a way that she contributes to this carefully manicured image.

Ever since she was born Sandra Venedici has done all the things that the old money people Marco desperately wants to blend in with make their children do. Piano lessons, ballet, fancy boarding schools, a carefully curated circle of acquaintances from the right background. From the very beginning Marco's chief interest in his daughter has been how she reflects on him and his image.

Sandy has always gone along with this when her Father is around, because to be blunt he is an impossible man to go against, but whenever he left on some business trip or social occasion it was like a switch was flipped and a monster unleashed. Every held back rejoinder, every suppressed violent urge, every foul curse that went unuttered in her father's presence was unleashed upon authority figures of a lesser nature. Tutors, teachers, nannies, security guards and even one or two police officers have fallen victim to Sandy's rampages. Whenever Marco returned home he was able to restore order and mete out some draconian punishment or another but as soon as he left the cycle began anew and he was never going to stick around long enough to actually raise his daughter.

Eventually Sandy's father decided to treat the whole situation like a bad business deal and cut his losses, he'd ship his daughter out to some boarding school far away enough that her behaviour wouldn't get back to impact his reputation. It had to be somewhere prestigious enough that it would sound good to bring up in conversation, but also tough enough that Sandy didn't simply run off or burn the place down. The RBY institute seemed like a good fit.

In fact this decision was partly due to the efforts of of the family butler, Pierre. One of the few servants still sympathetic towards the troubled young girl, Pierre carefully dropped hints and left out clues in such a way that Marco came to believe it was his own idea to send his daughter to the institute, rather than a carefully concocted conspiracy. For her part, Sandy carefully concealed her glee, all she'd ever wanted was to start her own pokemon journey and while a boarding school wouldn't be her first pick it would still bring her a step closer to her goal.

Strengths:
Stubborn as Hell:
Once Sandy has decided she wants something very little can discourage her from getting. Despite her privileged background Sandy isn't one to be discouraged or give up in the face of setbacks

Natural Aggression: Sandy is comfortable striking first and striking hard whatever the situation is, from pokemon battles to old fashioned fist fights. This very often allows her to seize the initiative and set her preferred pace in any sort of confrontation and more hesitant or calculating opponents can sometimes be overwhelmed or left in the dust before being able to swing things back in their favour.

Self Motivated Learner:
Despite being more or less a full blown delinquent Sandy doesn't slack off when it comes to study or other forms of self improvement. Knowledge is after all a form of strength and since its one the authority figures she despises tend to lord over people she prefers to take it back. There are no studies she particularly excels at, but Sandy puts in the time to get decent to good results in most things.

Weaknesses:
Abrasive:
Sandy rubs people the wrong way the same way a sharpedo does: to the point that it causes physical pain. Most people she interacts with come away disliking her or atleast preferring to stay out of her way and she's bad at making friends or allies.

Problem with Authority: Sandy hates people telling her what to do or how to do it, even if they have the expertise or position to be justified in doing so. Although she can swallow enough of her contempt for teachers and the like to not do anything that will get her expelled, she certainly doesn't leave a good impression on such people and tends to make enemies of them.

Anger Managements Issues: It takes very little to get Sandy riled up or pissed off and she doesn't tend to vent those kinds of feelings all that productively; she often ends up doing or saying things while angry that make her life harder in the long run

Fears:

Marco Venedici

1st Pokemon:

Vasco
gible.jpg

Vasco was a 9th birthday present given to Sandy under the hopes that being responsible for another living being would mellow out her difficult behaviour somewhat. It worked in a sense, Sandy fell in love with the little, shark like creature instantly and displays an affection and care for him she refuses to any humans. However the closeness of their bond has turned Vasco into a loyal accomplice for his master's rebelliousness and many an escape or act of vandalism has been intensified by his strength.

Personality wise Vasco is a bit disagreeable, having spent much of his young life being the only Pokemon in the house he can be standoffish with new faces and is overprotective of his trainer, being liable to bite if her perceives her to be threatened. He's also a bit of a showoff and his favourite thing in the world is winning battles in front of Sandy so she can see how tough he is.

Zapdos (First Year)
073f872386ff68391a45a337e832abfa.png

Full Name: Aloysius le Fay, often goes by Loy
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Year: 1
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 205 lbs.
Appearance: Tall, sleek, and with vibrant azure hair and a sharp suit to compliment, many would describe Aloysius as sleek or suave - that is, until he opens his mouth and reveals the child-like naivete hiding under that dapper look. He bears a birthmark on the left side of his face, a pale, white streak, which matches a mark that both his father and grandmother possess. It is said that this is a mark from being fey-touched, hence the family name. Many people, upon seeing it, assume it is a scar with some tragic backstory, but Aloysius has no negative association with the mark whatsoever.
Hometown: Geosenge Town, Kalos Region
Dormitory: Zapdos

Personality: Though having something of a late start compared to other trainers - overprotective parents keeping him home until he turned sixteen - Aloysius' thirst for adventure and academic exploration is really no different than the average twelve-year-old. Growing up in such a sheltered setting, Loy can come off as quite naive and unprepared for most situations, but when it comes to natural charisma and knowledge of the supernatural, Loy's time with his head in the clouds has given him a leg up. Charming and sweet, it is hard for people to dislike him.
He personally does not believe that he should have been placed in the Zapdos Dormitory, but as he has a bit of a distaste for battling and finds contests overtly showy and superficial, it seemed the only remaining place he could fit. However, it is not such a stretch as he would believe - though he is lacking a bit in the areas of both book learning and common sense, he has a natural intuition and understanding of Pokemon that is exceedingly rare. Many of his professors believe he has some latent psychic abilities, or perhaps some other form of magic that is still yet to be discovered and linked more to the Fairy Type than the Psychic Type. He has shown the promise of magical potential, though really nothing overtly extraordinary or powerful - more simple things that are linked to his emotional state, such as the air around him getting cold when he is upset or angry, or creating the sound of ringing bells and the appearance of fairy lights when he is particularly joyful. His intuition when it comes to Pokemon has also been described as supernatural, and while he does not claim to have the ability to actually understand what a Pokemon is saying, he can very accurately determine the emotional states of both the people and Pokemon around him.
Therefore, while not particularly brilliant in a way that seems useful or applicable to any scientific field, his abilities do make him something of an anomaly, and valuable to those who wish to understand more about the nature of Pokemon and the complexities of their relationships with humans. (In OOC terms, he is an Empath.)

Background: Born in the Kalos region, Aloysius spent most of his life growing up in Geosenge Town. Drawn to the strange magic in the land around him, he learned early on that "quiet stones speak volumes," and he often returned to his parents with strange stories about adventures he had been on. His grandmother, Morgaine, rumored by many to be a witch of some sort, was the one who gave him his first Pokemon to start his journey: a strange, icy little Vulpix whose like was unknown in Kalos. Loy's parents had been against him leaving home due to his tendency to wander aimlessly, but Morgaine insisted that the boy could learn best how to care for himself out in the wider world. Eventually, a compromise was reached in sending Aloysius to the RBY Academy in the Kanto region, where he could both grow as a person and a trainer in a safe, controlled environment.

Strengths: Empathy, Compassion, Open-mindedness, Mediating Conflicts (both with Pokemon and with people), Seeing the Hidden Potential of Others (People and Pokemon)
Weaknesses: Naive, Absentminded, Too Trusting, Aimless in his Goals (some would call him Unmotivated, but really, it's a problem of not knowing what he wants to do), Very Conflict Averse (though skilled in working out problems between others, when Loy himself is involved in a conflict, he is very likely to just cave in to whatever the other person wants from him in order to avoid the conflict altogether), Unskilled at Battling (though the assertiveness and independence of his Vulpix somewhat makes up for this)
Fears: Ghosts (his Empathy doesn't work on them, and so he finds them especially creepy and disconcerting)

1st Pokemon:
images
Species: Alolan Vulpix
Nickname: Elancer
Personality: Though small, fluffy, and adorable, Elancer has a personality that is downright obstinate. She seems to hold affection only for her trainer, and this affection surfaces in an overprotectiveness that has made it difficult for Loy to make friends while Elan is out of her Pokeball. She growls at strangers and has been known to bite. The Vulpix herself, however, sees it as her duty to protect her innocent, oftentimes foolish trainer, and in reality is much more level-headed and aware of danger than he is. Even after Loy has made friends with someone, she remains standoffish and aloof for quite a long time - she is a Pokemon, it seems, who is very discerning in where she places her trust, and as such it is quite hard to win her affection.

Zapdos (First Year)
ffd36e08b16f5679e7da86a1f91f0898.jpg

Full Name: Cliff Seymour
Gender: Male
Age: 12
Year: 1
Height: 4'6", around 140 cm
Weight: 78 lb., around 35.4 kg
Appearance:
Cliff is a droopy-eyed boy who often looks as if he’s just woken up or is about to fall asleep. Parts of his hair stick up at strange angles depending on his sleeping pose of the day. They also occasionally stand on end when he pets Mary for too long. He seems to wear the same blue hoodie for days on end and doesn’t notice that its sleeves are fraying. Upon closer look though, it does appear that he rotates through a set, but they all look alike?

Hometown: Olivine City, Johto
Dormitory: Zapdos

Personality:
To his peers, Cliff comes off as a bit of an oddball. He claims to have clairvoyant dreams, but the things he "predicts" are so inconsequential that they're never sure if he's pulling their leg with a particularly persistent bit or if he's being serious. It doesn't help that he has a deadpan delivery when he is joking. He also has a habit of talking to himself or holding entire conversations with Mary, but his generosity and laid-back nature mostly make up for these oddities: he's especially known for sharing rare treats sent to him by his traveling parents with his classmates. Unfortunately, these traits also occasionally draw him attention from some less well-meaning individuals, who see him as an ideal target to bully.

To his teachers, Cliff is a bit of a problematic student. He often falls asleep in class and gets low to mediocre marks in his exams, which is especially offensive seeing as he is about to begin life in the knowledge-prizing Zapdos Dormitory. Unlike some of the more driven children at RBY Institute, Cliff has yet to express any concrete aspirations for his future. However, his deep love for Pokemon (albeit of the tamer and more common varieties) is apparent and his presence seems to have a soothing influence on them.

Likes:
+ Sweets and drinks that go well with sweets
+ Instant food
+ Reading
+ Board games, hide-and-seek, playing pretend, anything you can do inside on a rainy day
+ Taking walks
+ Observing Pokemon, people watching
+ Looking for treasure, collecting rare finds
+ Secrets, legends, mysteries, ciphers
+ Lazy naps

Dislikes:
- Working or cleaning
- Taking tests, studying, lectures
- Battling or anything competitive
- Vegetables

Background:
Cliff's mother is a nature photographer for Pokémon Atlas, a national magazine aiming to promote the layman's interest in ecology, biology, and environmental conservation. Cliff's father is a well-known professor and marine biologist who travels often for various deep sea expeditions and educational talks. Ironically, Cliff never picked up a professional interest for Pokémon biology from either of his parents, likely because that would involve studying.

Back in Olivine City, when his parents were away for work for weeks on end, Cliff was often left at home under the care of a hired nanny until he was ten. After that, he was left to his own devices, with a large allowance to make sure he'd be able to feed himself. For Mr and Mrs Seymour, ten was when you could travel the world and make a name for yourself as a trainer, so this arrangement wasn't particularly unusual for them. An only child without the opportunity nor the courage to make friends his own age, Cliff learned to amuse himself and formed a deep friendship with Mary, his first Pokémon. (He'd asked for a Mareep when he was six and had to prove that he was responsible enough to care for a Pokémon. They finally got him one on his eighth birthday.) As a result, Cliff developed some habits that made it difficult for him to fit in with other children.

Cliff began attending secondary school and his eccentricities caused him to be bullied. When a teacher brought this up to the Seymours, they decided to try enrolling Cliff in RBY Institute: they believed in the reputation and prestige of the boarding academy and its instructors, and hoped their son would be able to make some friends there in a safe environment.

Strengths:
+ Cliff is so unfazed by bullies and most other (nonsupernatural) hostile forces that he comes off as inhumanly brave, almost spiritually enlightened -- or just incredibly dumb and uncaring of his own well-being.

+ Cliff has an observant eye that he developed from his days of people watching in Olivine City. Ever since he read a particularly compelling detective series with a lead character who championed the "science of deduction," however, Cliff's developed a habit of using his observations to make up the wildest conclusions, mostly to amuse himself when he's bored.

+ Not only is he liberal with his possessions, he is also incredibly open-minded when it comes to his opinions of others. Say, if another child were to treat him cruelly, he'd still able to see their good points. It's that level of openmindedness.

+ Earnest. Despite what his dead facial muscles seem to convey (or worse, not to convey), Cliff is never sarcastic in what he says. Sarcasm just isn't in his nature.

Weaknesses:
- Cliff speaks and moves more slowly than most, which can test one's patience at times when there's a need for speed. He likes to take his time and hates being rushed. This also applies to his decision making abilities, and he has a tendency to be slow-to-act.

- He has a fickle and meandering nature, and is never one to focus on a single task for long (besides sleep).

- Cliff finds it difficult to understand people's more complex motivations, and is only accustomed to having surface-level interactions with others.

- He has a tendency to bottle up his negative emotions and is not very self-aware about when he's hit his limit.

- He is not academically or athletically inclined, nor particularly studious - in short, unremarkable.

- People can find him hard to read because of his narrow range of expression.

Fears:
- The Dark
- Being Alone
- Ghosts

1st Pokemon: Mary the Mareep. Mary has a docile temperament, but she isn't the brightest bulb in the box. If a PokéKidnapper were to lead her away with some delicious, juicy clover, she'd follow. She has gotten lost before back in Olivine City and both times were traumatic for Cliff, who has become a bit overprotective of the Pokémon (this is especially apparent since he prefers having her out of her Pokéball).
