Mind Over Metal, Metal Over Flesh
Set within the Universe of Ouroboros, long after the age of Humanities inter-planetary expansions, it would seem that once again; after what little time Humanity had as a harmonious unit has decayed and shattered once again. Humanity has split, Insurgencies rising up, taking whole planets on the outer colonies, their gorilla tactics allowing them to slowly force back the much larger and formidable military force, pushing inwards slowly, closing down against the capital worlds. What had started off as rebelling farmers and miners, angered over unfair taxes had transformed into a full-scale rebellion.
With the military proving ineffective against this new foe; dozens of Private Military Companies rose in power, at the top stood The Gladium Corporation, and closely behind came Angelus: these two corporations caused hostile takeovers of each other, child companies as well as the rebellion. In spacial combat, the PMC's seemed unstoppable, however their ground operations often ended with either costly failures, or total defeat.
And with this came the Umbra Milites, or Shadow Soldiers. The name was created to be something utterly terrifying, though many were no more than hired Mercenaries, some Abducted Children, Volunteers and the like. People dragged from all corners of the world with all manners of training. Some were super soldiers, others found it difficult to even rebuild a rifle correctly. But all of them became participants of Project Umbra. Each of them had been allowed to enter into the project due a genetic compatibility with a living organism known as Arma. When attached to the neural system of a compatible being, it forces a mutation in the brain. Significantly increasing perception rates, response time alongside physical capabilities. However, the most notable of the changes are the existence of a new substance in the victim's body, it creates a tremendous supply of energy out of what appears to be nowhere. Many scientists assume it to be that the Arma uses the remaining percentage of unused human brain matter to generate electrical currents, but as of now that's simply speculation.
And with this new source of power came Powered Armor with an infinite running time; named after it's power source the Armis was constructed. Capable of boosting the carry capacity of a soldier, as well as regenerating and replenishing it's own armor composition. These Armis came with varying capabilities atop all of these already advantageous powers, some able to deploy extensions of the armor as shielding, others allowing a quick boost in speed to the users, toughening and strengthening of the muscles, each of these abilities became useful in the field.
And it had begun, the Umbra Milites are preparing for their very first deployment today. Zulu Squad, consisting of 5 members sat, gearing up and waiting for their debrief, and their assault to begin.
