Name: Vincent Carter Sawyer

Age: 16

Gender: Male

*Birthday: October 31

Magical focus: Death

Sexual Orientation: Asexual

Hight: 5'3"

Weight: 104 lb

*BMI: 18.4 (underweight)

Hair Colour: Black

Eye Colour: Grey

Skin Tone: Pale

*Scars: Self-harm scars on his wrists and thighs

*Other Distinguishing Marks: Has a birthmark that covers most of his left shoulder

*Typical clothing: All black for the most part, much to the town's displeasure. Wears combat boots and hoodies.

Personality:
Vincent is very anxious and depressed. He has issues getting close to people and harbours extreme hatred for the cult he lives in. Because of the magic he was born with, he's had the unfortunate ability to tell when people are dead or dying, which causes him great anxiety. He feels extremely guilty when he senses someone's death and can do nothing to stop it. Considering the extreme number of suicidal members in the cult, he's constantly trying to save as many as he can.

Vincent has a big heart and wants to help people stay alive any way he can, including pouring his heart out for people and stretching himself thin to try and save as many people as he can, to the detriment of his own mental and physical health.

*Hobbies:
Listening to angsty music
Saving suicidal people (or trying to)
Walking around in graveyards (it helps him to recharge whether he realizes it or not)

*Likes:
'Good' music
Well kept graves
Helping people

*Dislikes:
Suicide
People disrespecting the dead
country music

Background:
Vincent was born to the cult and was raised in a family that was under its influence. As such, he's been told all his life that magic is evil, and has come to the conclusion that they are all brainwashed idiots. When he was about five years old his grandmother died, and he realized that he could 'feel' her die. A year later he got the same feeling about his uncle and managed to find him just before he could kill himself. Once he recognized this as magic, he grew to hate the cult that would drive people to suicide and refuse to allow the powers that could stop it.

As Vincent grew, he became more aware of his abilities, and disturbingly more aware of the number of suicidal people in their community. He's done all he can to keep those he meets from committing suicide, much to the detriment of his own health.

Character Quote:
"The dead all have stories to tell, but no voice to tell it with. The living still have that voice, but they're too scared to tell their stories."

The philosophy they live by:
"It ain't the speakers that bump harts
It's our hearts that make the beat"

Name: Deacon Hyland, the Cult Master for The Christian Movement
Titles: The Merchant of Death, The Bringer of Fire, The False Prophet
Age: 42
Gender: Male
*Birthday: August 12th
Magical focus: Fire
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual

Height: 6' 6
Weight: 213 lbs
Hair Color: Darkest Black
Eye Color: Brown
Skin Tone: White

*Typical clothing: Dark blue and gray formal menswear.

Personality: Deacon is a undiagnosed psychopath. He is heavily religious and follows the Bible as a code of law. Deacon is known for having short bursts of anger and violence, often taking it out on his son. Deacon gets his enjoyment from causing pain to those who he believes, "rejects God's love". He loves to celebrate and laugh when these supposed non-believers are punished, as he sees it as a victory over Satan and a reestablishment of God. "Such things are wroth celebrating." The way he Deacon wants to be one with God, as Deacon believes he has a disease (his magical abilities) and wants to rid himself of such things, along with everyone else. That way, he believes that his society will flourish and be pure. In this conquest, Deacon has sought power over others and is currently the ruler of The Christian Movement cult. He is a rule follower and enforcer, abusing his power by harming everyone around him. Deacon generally sees himself above others, as he is "closer to God." Whether he knows it or not, he is the merchant of death, driving people to suicide.
*Hobbies: Reading the Bible, hunting, hiking, praying, cooking, fishing, attending mass, mostly paperwork for the Cult, burning traitors
*Likes: The Church, meat, order, rules, guns, fire
*Dislikes: Magic, his son, his wife, traitors, the US government
Background: Deacon was the son of the former Cult Master, Walter Hyland, now known as Great Father. Grown up in the presence of the cult, he was taught all his beliefs he has today; that God has given purpose to everything in existence, from events to people. Deacon sees his purpose to spread God's way of life and bring people to salvation, whether through life or death. Before becoming the cult's leader, he became an alter server from the Community Church at the age of 10. His childhood up to this point has been rough, as Walter would consistently put pressure on Deacon to follow God's will and his orders. Walter abused his child both emotionally and physically, but Deacon did not question his father. God wanted all of this to happen and his father, the Cult Master, knew best.

The major turning point in his life was when he attained his powers at the age of 13. During one service, while carrying a torch to the alter, accidentally dropped it and caused a massive fire, engulfing the entire church. Deacon was trapped under the rubble for hours and through the heat and smoke infecting his body, became a fire bender. The burning also crippled his father, who forever sits in a wheelchair. That day 10 people died and when Deacon discovered his accidental powers, he saw it as a punishment that God gave him for burning his Church. That's when he knew what his life mission was; be a disciple of God so his punishment will be lifted.

A crippled Walter led the Cult until Deacon turned 20 and was handed down the reigns of Cult Master. After becoming Cult Master, he fell in love with a women named Jobina Masters and the two soon got married. When Deacon was 26, watched his wife give birth to his son Gilmar. Following his father's traditions, he would abuse his child whenever he did something wrong. This caused friction in the household and soon, the focus drove away from abusing his son to abusing his wife. Deacon didn't like the idea of his wife supporting his son when the "devil's taken hold of him". Soon, Gilmar would fall under the same ideology of his father, as they grew up exactly the same.

Under the leadership of Deacon, the town became more militaristic and totalitarian. The town was under martial law, as Deacon looked for other individuals cursed with magic so he can "cure them". Once Walter found out that his son had powers, he scoffed him. Deacon made a promise to his father; he will cure others to cure himself. Since then, Deacon has burned many he considered traitors. Deacon is the burner of life, reducing it to ash.
Character Quote: "God punished me because I needed to be tested. Because of his punishment, I have a purpose in life; to undo every ounce of it in the world."
Philosophy they live by: "What God says is final and no matter how cruel it may appear; we must rejoice and follow through!"
*Theme Song:

Name: Priam Creek Martins
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Birthday: January 1st
Magical focus: Life
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual

Appearance:
ce6d3a4e71a849c7bc476e836c99c840.jpg

Height: 5'6
Weight: 110lbs
BMI: 17.8
Hair Colour: Black
Eye Colour: Grey
Skin Tone: Pale
Scars: Deep scaring on her back due to previous accidents, and smaller on her fingers.
Other Distinguishing Marks: Missing her right pinkie finger

Personality: Priam is a quiet child. She doesn't cause a stir when inconvenienced, or at least publicly. She doesn't judge anyone for their mistakes and is well liked by town officials and neighbors. This Priam wouldn't hurt a soul, much less steal a soul. Under what the town sees, Priam is twisted in the head. She sees sin in every person and believes that she is the only one who can bring them to justice. If justice is death, then Priam is the judge.
*Hobbies:
*Likes:
*Dislikes:
Background: From the beginning, her parents didn't trust her smile. There was something wrong with their baby, even if no one would confirm this. Still, they brought her up like any other child, or like any other child in the area. Everything seemed normal until the new baby came when she was five, when her baby sister died suddenly in the night while Priam lay asleep in the bed next to her. Samantha was only a month old when she died. "Mommy mommy please, mommy? Mommy no!" While her father tried to subdue her mother's rage, Priam lost a finger in the process. The story was covered up as a mishap with her father's tools, but Priam remembered the malice in her mother's eyes and the screaming. It didn't stop there. Meals were withheld for minor incidents, wounds were opened for talking back, and where was god. God was sitting atop his heaven watching as she suffered. He let this happen.

When she was thirteen, the older boys would torment her with words and punches and worse. Where was god? God was not here obviously. Johnny had a new dog and fancy clothes and a happy mother. Priam sat out back his house one afternoon when his new dog came prancing up. It was a kind she hadn't seen before, something that looked rather funny to her. Why did Johnny get to have this life? What had he done to deserve all this? Her anger boiled over and she stared down the damn dog. In her rage, something both warm and cold seemed to flow into her veins bringing a sense of what she'd describe as something akin to joy. Johnny's dog collapsed to the ground, very much not moving. The rest was a blur, Priam calling for an adult, Johnny's face of pure agony when he found his beloved pet gone. The adults cradled Priam as she cried, but she wasn't sad. They didn't stop to think that what had happened might have been Priam's fault. No, instead they comforted the girl for having to have seen such a tragic sight. The sight of Johnny's despair was burned into her mind. He deserved that. He deserved to suffer. Priam was beginning to realize what she was. There was no god in this world, but she'd make sure they paid.

Over the next three years, she evolved to taking human lives. Of course, there was no way that the perfect Christian girl Priam could be involved in anything. She'd been shaken by the loss of her dear mother. She was a good child, or so they assumed.

Character Quote: "I don't believe in karma. So I do it myself."
Philosophy they live by: Those who do wrong should be punished.

Name: Gilmar Hyland
Titles: The Mute, The Quiet Gardener
Age: 16
Gender: Male
*Birthday: November 1st
Magical focus: Earth
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual

Appearance: (Picture or description)
Height: 5' 3
Weight: 128
*BMI:
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Brown
Skin Tone: White
*Scars: None
*Other Distinguishing Marks: He has an upside cross for a birthmark on his back.
*Typical clothing: Hoodies and jackets.

Personality: Gilmar is a very good hider; both physically and mentally. From a young age, he has learned to hide from his father. Nowadays, he hides his feelings from everyone and instead writes them all down in a journey. He's basically mute as he believes simply speaking too much would spread the Devil's lies. He believes to be cursed by the Devil because of his magical powers and how his father Deacon reacts to them, so speaking would only spread negatively to the world. Instead, he talks through the Earth. Gilmar doesn't have any friends outside of the plants he can communicate to. He keeps a garden in which he grows and talks to his plants with his powers. When he writes in his journey, the dead trees used to make the paper can speak to him as well. His mentor is the Town Tree, the oldest tree in the village in which he takes care of and his best friend is a young tree named Bark, which he planted when he was 6 years old. Even though he is isolated from the rest of human society, he will stand by his father out of fear for him and respect for God, since he is destined to become the nest Cult Master.
*Hobbies: Reading fictions, Writing short stories, gardening, climbing trees, hiking, camping
*Likes: Nature, being alone, Bark, Town Tree, animals, God
*Dislikes: His father, yelling, fire, crowds
Background: Gilmar was raised by his father Deacon Hyland, the Cult Master of the Christian Movement. Deacon, like his father beforehand, was very abusive towards his son. Gilmar was forced the radical religious beliefs down his throat and was soon seen as a demon when Deacon discovered his powers. Gilmar acquired his powers when he buried a seed into the ground when he was 6 years old. That seed became Bark, a young tree that became his best friend when Gilmar learned how to communicate to plants. The two formed a bond; Gilmar gave it water and Bark gave him shade. Gilmar believed that he should use his curse to better God's creation. That, he thinks, could redeem himself from Satan's curse. As Gilmar grew more attached to nature, he became less attached to humans, eventually to a point where he wouldn't say a word for days. While his father began to leave him alone to focus his abuse on his wife, Gilmar would take care of his garden and care for his friend, along with Town Tree, the oldest tree in the village. Gilmar made a human-less society by himself.

Philosophy they live by: "I must care for the Earth around me, not only to be free from sin, but as they care for me too."

The Privette family moved into the community on October 31st, 2006. Both parents of the Privette twins are apart of a secret agency unknown to the rest of the cult, even the twins have no idea who their parents really are. The organization their parents belong to observe all strange happenings in any place on Earth. Members are scattered across the globe. They sent Mitchell and Nora Privette, already previously married and pregnant with twins, to the cult's home town. There they spent the next 8 months learning the town's rituals, everybody's habits, and occasionally observing well hidden magic users. They were here to protect them after all, they needed to know how they behaved as well. After many months studying and watching, the two set to work on a spell that could give their own unborn children powers as well. It would be much more useful to the cause having their own magical kids to relate to the others, from there finding the root of this cult's successful rule. On July 7th, 2007, Nora gave birth to twins, One female with the power of Light that she named Luminescence, and one male with the power of Dark that she named Mezzanotte.

Name: Angela Bridges
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Birthday: October 26
Magical focus: Water
Sexual Orientation: Questioning

Appearance:
Related image

Height: 5’5’’
Weight: 113 lb
Hair Colour: Black; she wants to dye it, but her parents forbid it.
Eye Colour: Dark brown
Skin Tone: Brown
Typical clothing: Her parents demand that she wear modest clothing and avoid drawing attention, so Angela does her best to push the boundaries with her casual clothing: t-shirts that don’t quite cover her midriff, skirts and shorts that are just a tiny bit shorter than her parents would like, collars that are just a bit too low. It isn’t real self-expression, but it’s as close as she can get.

Personality: Angela is good at putting on a facade. The strictness and severity of the society she lives in has naturally pushed her to be somewhat rebellious. She likes to stir the pot, but she doesn’t like facing the consequences afterwards, so she makes a point of acting mediocre to avoid drawing attention, and any mischief she gets up to happens behind the scenes. She can be selfish in her quest to get what she wants, stemming from a belief that other people are all the same way. She’s also known to deal in gossip.
Hobbies: theatre, swimming (unsurprisingly), dance, jewelry-making
Background: Unlike the majority of the other children in the area, Angela was not born into the cult, although her parents have always been extremely religious. Angela’s maternal grandmother was a magic-user who seemed to have an uncanny ability to judge people’s emotions or tell what was wrong with them, and she did her best to help them solve the problems they faced. Unfortunately for her and her daughter, a few jealous neighbors began to portray her powerful empathy as intrusive mind-reading, and she became quietly shunned by much of the community.
Growing up in such a subtly hostile environment, and with a deeply rooted resentment against her mother, it’s no surprise that Angela’s mother was quick to accept her future husband’s belief that magic was a curse and that God was not the benevolent healer she had been raised to believe, but rather a demanding and vengeful entity. They moved shortly after their marriage, and Angela’s grandmother moved into a beach cottage in a different town where she was welcomed and accepted.
Angela was born in a fairly typical town, but her parents’ intolerance of the magic-users in the area and their stringent beliefs soon turned her mother’s fear of isolation into a self-fulfilling prophecy. By the time she was five, even she could recognize that there was a stark difference between her hometown and her grandmother’s town, which she much preferred. Afraid of losing their hold on her and allowing her to slip into any behaviour they deemed sinful, her parents decided to move again and join the cult, whose fundamentalist religious beliefs were close to their own. Though there was some obvious racism in the community, they hoped to avoid it by doubling down on their strict beliefs and becoming pillars of the religious community.

Character Quote: “Don’t get too comfortable, ‘cuz I’m getting bored.”
Philosophy they live by: Change is necessary and inevitable, but it never hurts to make sure that it’s the change that I want.
