Autumn Kim

The day started like any other, Autumn's phone buzzed and the gentle melody of her alarm chimed out. The sun rays had just started to peek through her white curtains, filling the room with a gentle yellow glow. It was still early, six in the morning to be exact, yet there was much to be done before her shift at 'Deja Brew'.

Despite working there since her Sophomore year of college, the name still made her roll her eyes every so often. It was cheesy, yes, and the owner's explanation for it didn't help either. "It's because we see the same customers almost every day! Even if it's someone's first time here, they'll think they've been here!" It didn't fully make sense, however, Autumn let her have her fun. It was a good job and it paid well, so who was she to make fun of a shop name?

Quickly brushing the tangles out of her blue hair, she pulled it into a ponytail and put on her exercise clothing: an oversized sweatshirt and a pair of leggings. In a desperate attempt to be healthier, she had started to go on a daily run around the campus. Thankfully she had found the perfect playlist to pass the time, often getting back to her dorm room an hour before she had to leave for her first shift. It was usually a mad rush to shower, get dressed, brush her teeth, and make sure her hair was dry enough to pull back into another ponytail. It was odd, working in a place that didn't have a strict dress code, she had to just wear a shirt marked with the name of the café. It certainly made what to wear a more interesting choice, though for today she chose a pair of plain black shorts.

Sometimes it was the only choice that looked good with the dark purple shirt.

Slipping on a pair of sneakers and grabbing her bag, Autumn made sure she had everything before making the short walk down to 'Deja Brew'. Walking in through the back at seven thirty, she put her bag on the hook and grabbed her hat, pulling her ponytail through the back and washing her hands. Despite the morning just barely starting it was already busy, many caffeine deprived students and professors lining up and getting ready for the day.

It was only a little while into her shift when she saw a familiar face and felt her own heating up. For a couple weeks now, they had gained a new regular and Autumn found herself very shy around the customer. So, like any sane person, she had taken to writing on their cup small compliments. It was totally normal. Today was the day, though. She was going to step it up and ask them out (even if they never actually had a conversation other than the normal barista/customer chitchat.). It would be fine.

At least, that's what she made herself believe.

When it came time to call their order out, Autumn had it so their question was hidden on the inside of the protector sleeve. She couldn't actual face the customer, so she quickly hurried away and made herself busy on her next order, keeping an eye out to make sure they actually got their order.
