Werewolves, or ‘were-folk’, have existed on our earth for eons. Ever since humans came into existence, a portion of the species branched off, becoming animalistic shape shifters who’s appearances altered with the phases of the moon. Up until the Middle Ages of humanity, their kind flourished in the dense forests of Eastern Europe and America. They were soon discovered in the more populated areas of Europe after corpses of villagers were found scattered about in their hunting grounds. Consequently, the mass extermination of the eastern werewolves took place, eradicating the entire continent. Though, the western werewolves of America grew alongside the Native Americans. Rarely had any killings of the western wolves had taken place, since they were considered sacred beings to the natives. Their population immediately dropped with the arrival of the Europeans, and they too were slaughtered like their ancestors.
The very few that remained either completely stuck to their animal form, or a human form. Those who became humans were forced to hide their werewolf ancestry, and had to learn the nature and behaviors of humans to fit in with society.
In Modern times, werewolves are just thought to be a mythical legend. But in actuality, a small population exists alongside humans. Working jobs, having families, and taking part in society. The government keeps their existence a secret in order to not throw the human population into a full blown panic. Werewolves that accidentally reveal themselves or transform in public are immediately detained by the government and tragically euthanized.

Pack Structure
These werewolves don’t behave as the ones particularly seen in media. All members of a pack or ‘family’ are extremely respected, those who harm or harass other members are immediately rejected from the pack. The ‘roles’ or hierarchy, is not a social class order, nor does it determine who leads a pack. The pack ultimately has no leader, and all members usually have a equal part in decision making. Roles are considered what jobs each member of the pack must complete in order for it function correctly. New members introduced into the pack are not immediately designated a role.
Alphas- Consists of two members, are expected to find stable food sources and a secure area for living where humans won’t threaten their existence. Are considered ‘providers’.
Betas- Consists of two members, responsible for defending pack territory as well as eliminating any threats to the family, whether human or other werewolves themselves. Are considered ‘defenders’.
Deltas- Consists of two members, possess medical knowledge. Usually herbal medicine. Are expected to treat diseases and wounds for pack members. Are considered to be ‘healers’.
Gammas- Consists of two or three members, assists the Alphas and Betas in hunting and defense. They also physically train young members to hunt and defend themselves. Are called ‘hunters’ or ‘warriors’
Zetas- Consists of two or three members, they mostly do brain work, whether it’s managing resources or being the council of the Betas and Alphas. Are responsible with maintaining ancient pack records and knowledge. When it comes to battles, they are the first to plan what steps to take. Are considers ‘scholars’.
Omegas- Consists of two or three members, they aid in childcare or the raising of other werewolves. They also assist the Deltas with care taking of sickly pack members. Are considered to be ‘nursers’
