Ezra can only be described as a piece of work. He’s snarky, bold and doesn’t have a filter, tending to say whatever he wants without thinking first. He has a penchant for dark humor and sarcasm, which can get in the way during serious situations. His lack of a filter has also landed him and his friends in a few sticky situations, but he has a hard time taking accountability for how his big mouth gets them in trouble.
He comes across as confident, bordering on arrogant, and doesn’t like to keep people close, scared to lose them. He’s broody and prone to mood swings and likes to distance himself at times. This isn’t anything personal, it’s a self defense mechanism he developed to avoid becoming too close to the people that matter to him the most. It never works.
Despite all of this, he can be sweet and is always honest unless it comes down to something about him. He’s honestly just trying to figure everything out and feels a little helpless, unsure of how to navigate adulthood much less having mystical powers.
He cares too much and feels too deeply and he hates it. He wishes he could just turn his emotions off. Turn his powers off. He hates the responsibility. When people see good, they expect good and he doesn’t feel very worthy all of the time.
He’s responsible and mature, always looking to live up to the high expectations his parents have set for him.
the beginning.
Rafael and Mariana Hearthstone are alumnus of Nightshade academy, Rafael, a direct descendant of Kareem Hearthstone, founder of the Shades and former headmaster at the academy.
One of two of the most influential families in the magical world, the Hearthstones have passed their otherworldly shadow abilities down to their children every generation without fail.
A long winded rivalry with Nightshade’s other prominent family, dated back to the witch trials when the Hearthstones had betrayed the Hawthornes, essentially leaving their ancestors to burn at the stake. (ow.) In retaliation, the Hawthornes placed a curse on their family name, to be burdened with (whatever powers here) for all of eternity.
Generation after generation, the curse became more and more like a blessing as their ancestors learned how to control their shadow abilities to become ultimately more powerful than the average caster.
Nevertheless, hatred for the other family was instilled into Esme and Ezra from the youngest of ages.
childhood.
The middle:
Growing up, there was often an unspoken competition between the two siblings. Who was stronger, quicker, faster, smarter– if you asked either of them who was you’d definitely have them talking about themselves and their accomplishments over a lengthy five minutes.
Childhood was filled with insecurities and expectations on one side to the other. Pressure from both parents and everyone around him made him doubt his own abilities in an effort to be perfect. Failure wasn’t a trait the Hearthstones possessed, and as the oldest in the family, he was expected to make a name from himself.
When Esme’s trouble with her powers became apparent, the pressure increased. He was expected to advance in the magical community enough for the both of them now, in order to satisfy their parents.
This was hard, yes, but also meant he was favored by Mariana and Rafael.
Accidents, mistakes, and mishaps were already in-line with Esmeralda and her unstable magic– but when it came to Ezra and his own troubles, their parents were much more harsh on him than they were her.
While not twins, the siblings were effortlessly more alike than they knew– stubborn, hard-headed and the hidden fear that neither of them will ever amount to enough.
now.
It was the end of sophomore year for Esme and junior for Ezra when Hayleigh Ashfield, the astronomy teacher, had mysteriously disappeared. The rumors circled around the school until everyone eventually settled on the idea that she just… quit teaching.
Neither of the siblings blamed her, the academy was filled with people beneath them, the Hearthstone name instilled a sense of condescension– not to mention they were both Shades, their grandfather– and ex headmaster was the one who founded them which only added to their superiority complex.
No wonder Ms. Ashfield would leave.
His father and mother’s expectations have only grown since their arrival at Nightshade, and desperate to shield Esme in any way he could from the trouble she got herself into—he did it much of the time without her ever knowing, as well as excel in school, leaving him with little to no time to enjoy himself.

Bianca can be described as sweet, and spunky, but also as a bit socially awkward and withdrawn. She’s naturally very trusting of people, and is kind to everyone she meets. She’s a bit of a goofball, and has boundless enthusiasm and energy that she brings with her everywhere. Her laughter is infectious, and it’s hard not to be in a good mood around her.
She’s intelligent, and does super well in school. She’s naturally curious, always willing to learn a new skill or hobby if it interests her. She’s tutored before, loving teaching others.
She’s also very accident prone, always breaking or bumping something on accident. Her clumsiness can be seen as a nuisance, and has landed her in a few sticky situations.
She feels very deeply, and is a good listener and shoulder to cry on for those she cares about. She’ll do anything for her friends, regardless of if it’ll affect her negatively.
Bianca isn’t sensitive at all, and brushes things off with a smile on her face. It’s hard to get under her skin, as she’s learned not to take things personally. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body, but she will stick up for herself and her friends when she needs to, only in a kind way.
the beginning.
A pine creek native, and the daughter of two of Nightshade’s alumnus, her path the school began the moment she was born.
She was a happy child, the kind who blows kisses to strangers and makes friends everywhere she goes. Her childhood was a happy one, her parents doting on her and doing their best to raise a child any parent could be proud of.
Her love for nature—and the powers she was born with—made her enjoy spending time outdoors, especially living on her parent’s several acre ranch. Thus, her early life was spent hiking, gardening and swimming in Pine Creek’s many rivers and lakes.

As she grew, Bianca was blessed to live a relatively healthy and unbothered life. She loved her parents and they her, she was successful in school and had good friends who cared about her.
She began cross country and track and field in middle school, as she loved running, and very quickly she grew adept at the sport, even placing at competitions.
Her sophomore year, however, everything changed.
It was raining that day, as was common for Ireland. The roads were slick with water, and her father could hardly see through the windshield through the torrent. Bianca's baby sister, who was only three years old at the time, was in the back seat next to her.
The family was on their way home from visiting family for Christmas up north, the holiday radio station on full blast as they sang their merry little hearts out.
The rain was no problem, their father reassured them. He was driving safely, slower than the speed limit even. And the man had never even gotten a ticket!
Others, however, were not so careful.
With visibility so low, Bianca’s father didn’t see the car, swerving across lanes on the wrong side of the road, headed directly towards them until it was too late.
They swerved and the car clipped the back, spinning them off the road and tumbling down a steep, forested hill in the matter of seconds, where the car hit a tree and ultimately came to a stop, flipped over. Bianca’s legs were crushed and her baby sister…
She didn’t make it.
now.
Her parents were devastated, having lost a child. And Bianca, while able to walk after her legs had healed, would never run cross country again. She still limps when the pain flares up in her left leg on bad days.
Crushed by the loss of her little sister, and disheartened to see her parents so devoid of happiness, Bianca’s undimming spirit flickered a bit, making her more withdrawn.
She actually had to force a smile now, they didn’t come as naturally anymore. And everytime that pain flares up in her leg…
She realized she’d do anything to get her sister back. So as to bring some light into her parent’s life again.
Even if a deal had to be made.

Desirae is as any emotionally damaged teenager could be expected to be—volatile and angry, impulsive with semi manic fits of adrenaline binges.
A few questionable habits.
What a disappointment the Mayfield’s high class prize mare had turned out to been. Too bad her parents didn’t know that, she puts in a good act. To them, to everyone.
For her parents she’s still that same golden child. She’s mature, and responsible. Classy. Intelligent, full of ‘youthful poise’ or whatever. Sure, she dyed her hair red and slouched when she walked. She even got a B- in her Literature class last year! But she was still a *Mayfield*, and one worthy of their praise.
To everyone else she was hostile, arrogant. She uses humor to brush everything off so she never really processed emotions properly. She’s irrational and loud and bold and…a little crazy. She’s not too scary if you don’t get on her bad side but.:.
You don’t want to get on her bad side.
To her friends, she’s caring, bordering on sweet. She rarely opens up much but is a great listener, ready with advice—though how useful it’ll be you never know.
She’s quick with a joke even on her hard days—as aforementioned humor has always been a coping mechanism for her.
Laughter is the best medicine, right?
She’s fiercely loyal and the most stubborn person you’ll ever meet. She’s overprotective of the people she cares about and gets jealous when other people get in the way of that.
Not that she’ll ever admit it.
the beginning.
As the only child of one of the two most powerful werewolf families in Nightshade’s existence, Desirae’s childhood was far from typical.
From the moment she could walk, she was running, from the moment she could speak, she was intelligible, from the moment she first shifted, she made the full shift.
She’d always moved through life too fast.
Never allowed to be a child, Desirae’s parents saw Des as a business chip, some token for more power and status.
A prize mare to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
When her parents had discovered their pregnancy with her, that winning bid went to the Jericho family, who had a one year old son at the time. With the two families’ hopes to keep their bloodlines pure and powerful, Desirae and their son, Axel, were going to be married.

From the moment they could protest, Des and Axel did, though their words tended to fall on deaf ears. The only thing that mattered to Charlotte and Carter Mayfield was that Des be the picture perfect example of a young lady, and to shut up and fall in line with their plans for her.
So she did well in school, dressed how they wanted her to dress, spoke how they wanted her to speak, patiently abiding her time until she could be free of them forever.
Her acceptance to Nightshade was just the glimmer of hope she needed.
now.
Her arrival at the school provided her with a sense of freedom she’d never had before, and at first…it was hard. Making decisions for herself and being able to express her opinions were foreign concepts to her.
It was no time at all before things changed.
She began to grow more confident, and seemed to have a taste for danger that was unhealthy. She was always on the move, leaving the poor students of Nightshade gawking in her wake of drama and destruction.

Aspen is, to put it lightly, is a trouble maker. He’s loud and disruptive, energetic and a silver tongued liar. He’s a master manipulator and tends to use people to get exactly what he wants from them. He’s nosy and likes to be in everyone’s business, his Raven form making it easy to slip in and out of places unnoticed.
He has a penchant for gambling and card games that could rival that of a middle aged drunk—and the drinking habits to match. He’s an adrenaline junkie and loves the rush that gambling or doing something dangerous—like jumping off of Nightshade’s roof his freshman year when he couldn’t shift, hoping the fear would trigger it. It did, but it was a stupid idea.
As are most of his ideas.
He’s charming and flirtatious, never taking anything too seriously. He’s always cracking some wise ass joke that’s usually only funny to a select audience—mostly himself, if he’s being honest. He’s awful in school, constantly ‘forgetting’ his homework and skipping classes, choosing instead to go galavanting through the school grounds doing whatever he pleases.
His knack for trouble making isn’t all there is to him, however. Aspen proves to be kind to those who choose to befriend him, and is loyal to a fault, often stealing little trinkets or gifts to give his friends. He’s generally outgoing and likes people, but has a hard time making friends that trust him.
He’s deadly smart, despite his inability to apply himself in school, and is always one step ahead of the next person. He has a case of sticky fingers, and if you’re an ass to him, chances are your valuables will be going missing.
the beginning.
Born in Rhode Island to a professional poker player and a waitress (and drunk), Aspen’s childhood was nothing short of…interesting. From the moment he could walk, talk and read, Aspen’s father had taught him all there was to know about card games and betting—on all manners of things, like horse races and sporting events and even the lottery!—and he quickly grew really good at it.
His mother had a drinking habit and usually slept the days away, leaving Aspen in the living and watchful eyes of his father, after school. It was a wonder his father hasn’t divorced the woman years ago, but he stayed for his son.
Aspen wasn’t the greatest in school, not because he didn’t understand the material, it was simply that the material was of no interest to him. He made friends easily, teaching his fellow classmates the card games his father has taught him at recess, swindling them for snacks.

As Aspen grew a bit older, his mothers habits eventually grew abusive, the woman taking out her anger in drunken bouts of rage on both young Aspen and his father.
It grew to the point where his father, tired of it all, up and left. There was a fight for custody, that ultimately his mother won, leaving Aspen stuck with her. His father left without a trace after that, never calling or writing.
Aspen blamed himself for his father leaving.
So did Aspen’s mother.
Eventually eighth grade rolled around, and one night Aspen’s mother scared him so badly he’d ended up shifting for the first time in front of her. Thankfully the woman was too drunk to remember the event.
Thinking he was crazy until he got the admission letter from Nightshade later that summer, Aspen finally had his golden ticket. He’d be moving to Ireland and escaping his mother finally.
now.
His first year at Nightshade went as you might expect, as Aspen fought more internal demons than he knew he had, at the same time as being introduced to a whole new magical world, one he hadn’t even known existed until just weeks before. He partied to drown his emotions, and grew to love smoking. He got up to no good, making friends and causing trouble wherever he went.
He still doesn’t feel quite okay, but nightshade feels more like home to him than home ever did.

Kai is a bit of a tough nut to crack. He’s quiet, bordering on stoic, but loves people and hates to be alone. As the heir to his family’s dealings and legacy, he is naturally mature and responsible, fulfilling his duties and schoolwork with a sense of urgency that may confuse some.
Despite his seriousness, he is friendly and seen as kind by the people around him. He is well liked by his professors, as he is a diligent and adaptive student. He’s always liked his studies—especially philosophy and his Secular studies.
He has been described as a bit of daydreamer, constantly with his head in the clouds. He’s always thinking of some new drawing, or sculpture or invention, distracting him from the present moment.
An artist through and through, Kai has a keen eye for detail, and takes a joy in the beauty of the natural world. Sketchbooks filled with scenery, inventions and people he’s seen and sculptures big and small fill his room.
He has a love for the world and humanity as a whole that is confusing to some, believing so greatly in the power of the human spirit that even you too, might believe it for a moment. His energy is contagious and he’s always smiling, always ready with a kind word for a friend or a piece of advice that he wished he’d take himself.
He’s always been very rational, hardly ever losing his temper of lashing out, unless somebody important to him is involved. He has endless amounts of patience and is an excellent teacher, his enjoyment of helping others making his methods of doing so enthusiastic and uplifting.
Despite his level of understanding and lack of judgment for other people, he’s harder on himself than anyone he knows. He overworks himself to the point of breaking, and hardly sleeps but to him, it isn’t enough. He has to be everyone’s savior, even if he ends up for the worse in the process.

The Ward family was one of Nightshade’s founding families, and his great great great (etc) grandmother Lilian was the first headmaster’s best friend, though unfortunately Lilian was killed shortly after the school’s founding during the witch trials, leaving her children behind.
The family has long been powerful and wealthy, well known in the magic community. Malachi’s mother, Meredith Ward, is a member of the Council of Elders, a job that Kai…really knows nothing about.

His mother had always been secretive, and during her short stays at home between her work for the Council she’d barely deign to speak to Kai, only making sure he was excelling in his studies and practicing his magic daily—becoming good at manipulating the way people felt, all in the name of his family’s power
His father stayed holed up in his study, writing. Kai didn’t know what his father wrote, the man only ever gave vague responses that made partial sense. The man had always been off, muttering to himself in the hallways in the middle of the night, waking up screaming from violent night terrors. Telling Kai he was the devil.
now.
With a series of private tutors until his acceptance to Nightshade his Freshman year, Kai was all but isolated from other people his age growing up, besides a family friend Khalani Nor and Shiloh.
With every year he grew and his power with him. His mother noted this, and so her expectations of him did as well.
Maintaining his grades while looking out for Khal and his sister, as well as the numerous tasks his mother gave him was exhausting, but the moment he went to sit still, he became anxious and restless, his thoughts hounding him until he resumed his work.
Sleeping and eating have become a struggle, and lately he’s been feeling…sort of helpless. He believes he needs to be the strong one always, though, and so nobody was ever any the wiser.
Or so he thinks.
This is made all the easier by his optimistic attitude and unshakeable sense of…calmness that always surrounded him. Like all was right in the world and everything would be okay.
And maybe it will.

You won't find Khal in the thicket of a party, some vodka Redbull in a red cup, half sloshed on the floor while the other half makes it haphazardly into her mouth. You won't find her at a bar in her tightest clothes, eyeing men or women for a scrap of approval. And you certainly won't find her sneaking off with a group of friends to sneak a beer by the creek while they dare each other to go skinny dipping. Flatly put, you won't find her surrounded by a lot of people, hardly ever.
Khal keeps to her very small circle, rarely venturing out. Once she has decided she trusts someone, there is no going back, for there have been many trials & error to gain the favor of the viper.
To the outside eye, Khal is a stereotypical Noh. Well bred, powerful beyond her years, determined to be the best & willing to sacrifice everything to be able to achieve whatever it takes to fulfill the legacy that her parents are always on about. She constantly has her nose in some ancient text, reading about the histories of all the great Secular families, well on her way to being a walking encyclopedia. Because of this, she tends to stay out of gossip (if she can help it) and focus on what she deems as more important things. Although being friends with Esme, keeping out of drama isn't exactly easy.
Anti-social being a nice way to put it, Khal would rather be holed up in the dorm kitchens, baking cookies & pies & cakes & scones, anything that looks good in the moment. Usually clad in a pair of slim-fitting joggers, black slippers & a cropped hoodie, you'll find more treats than the bakery down the street littering every surface of the kitchens when shes in the mood, though don't ask her to share. Only a select few get to indulge in the Noh girl's tasty treats. With music blaring, cookies in the oven, a glass of bourbon in hand... It's one of the only times her brain isn't circling her parent's commandments.
Coy when she wants to be, a good girl on the outside & to the council (who matters), you'd never guess the girl's affliction to drinking. With enough bourbon to make it through a semester usually stashed below her bed, it's not uncommon for her roommate to walk in to Khalani's head in one hand and a stiff pour in the other, index finger twirling the glass's rim as if it'll fill back up and drown another round of pressures.

Everyone tells you that you're lucky when you grow up in a family like the Noh family.
Khal will assure you, she was anything but. Growing up in a family of powerful Seculars meant one thing; pressure.
Pressure to be the best, pressure to be mature, pressure to make the right decisions, pressure to be exactly who her parents wanted her to be. Pressure from a father who was written about in the textbooks she studied for being able to translate & revive ancient spells that were thought to be long gone. Luckily, the Noh girl wasn't the only one born into a great family who expected continued greatness. The Nohs & Wards had been family friends for what seemed like centuries. Khalani grew up with Shiloh & Malachi Ward, Kai being the same age as her. Having more people who understood exactly what she went through while growing up, it lessened a bit of the burden. Kai was always there, saying he understood, and he did. Khalani could rarely imagine a better friend to have than him.

It's easy to become undesirable, Khalani concluded early on in her wall-building. In fact, it was so easy that she wondered why more women her age didn't attempt it. Reject a few men, tell them they're dreaming or degrade them until something shatters in their eyes, or tell the popular pretty-in-pink miss that she'd be prettier with a brain, and boom. No more problems. Other students at Nightshade rarely attempted to converse with Khal these days, mostly giving her passing onceovers or glares before walking past to their classrooms. Occasionally a newcomer would try, which genuinely, was sweet. However the sickening stench of a try-hard, Barbie pink girl wasn't exactly Khal's taste when it came to friendship. It wasn't even judgement at that point, but sheer exhaustion at the thought of the brainless conversations that would ensue should she initiate to go for coffee or catch a movie.
So instead, Khal spent a lot of time alone. A lot of time alone. And how thoughtful it is of those inner shades to keep Khal company in those times alone. Those seeds of doubt taking it upon themselves to bloom, those mocking grins of family & faculty confirming the fear that she doesn't deserve the Noh name... and how sweet the bourbon tastes when it drowns the grins and suffocates the seeds as it settles into her belly, only inviting in the comfy tasks of journaling, listening to music or baking a sweet treat. How sweet the bourbon tastes when it manages to right the wrongs that Khal's brain is so insistent on spewing. Being alone suited Khal, truly, though that doesn't mean that it was always easy. Sure, Kai & Esme had found her in recent years, but there were things that friendship couldn't fix... and she found that few things in life are easy...

Sylvia is a living example of "mind your own business & harm can not come to you". Never the gossip, always the flittering soul, Sylvia spends her days doing what she feels right in. Emersyn is for everyone.
I know how that sounds, but really. A confident girl, comfortable in her own skin & in love with her body, Emersyn flaunts & loves what it means to be a woman. And there isn't one thing fake about it. She has trouble understanding (& sympathizing) when other women gripe about a little too much here and not being small enough there and it's infuriating. Being a woman, in Emersyn's eyes, is the greatest blessing you could ask for. Don't think that this means that the Hawthorne girl is a champion of all woman - she can be a downright bitch.
Being as self-loving as she is, many can take Emersyn for a self righteous, vain girl who loves herself more than anything else. This isn't entirely true. In fact, it's probably a lack of love for her own mental being that makes her, well, for everyone. Comfortable in her sexuality, as long as you're pretty and talk a mean game, you could probably persuade Emersyn into your sheets. And if you won't, she'll take a stab at it for you. But behind that relentless conviction, the brunette goes through some serious mental struggles. Being a Hawthorne isn't easy y'know... not when her cousin, Veronika, is little miss perfect. Not when you watch people whisper or sneer as you pass because your latest hookup got out and now everyone knows. Not when all you want is to live your life without the shadow of your family name and maybe just make a friend for once because they like you and not your reputation. Oh yeah, it's happened. But whatever. Carefree & always looking for a good time (even if a "good time" means wearing sweats in bed while watching crime documentaries) Emersyn isn't going to let anything get her down. Life is too short to be pissed or angry, unless someone deserves her sharp tongue, but even those moments are rare. This makes their hand-to-hand combat quite decent and they excel in classes that involve physical aspects. Liv's never been one to use her powers for personal gain-- other than compulsion the few times she's used it for... less than moral reasons.
weaknessesSlade Root was a plant derived from the 1800s and was believed to provide protection from the supernatural. Most assumed it was a myth until it was used against a vampire, skin-to-skin contact had burnt them much like the sun did back then.
Supernatural fanatics had experimented on Slade Root until they were able to extract a poisonous liquid that was deadly to vampires. Now, evolution had them susceptible to be harmed, weaken, or in far worse cases even death for the natural vampire.
Beyond Slade Root. There was the "myth" that vampires couldn't handle the sun. Witchcraft had devised a plan in the earlier days to provide a daylight ring for those who couldn't be in direct sunlight. Without said ring-- vampires could become severely harmed or even burnt to death in stood in the sun for an endless amount of time.

She's optimistic, energetic, a complete breath of fresh air-- if you will. She wasn't always like this. She used to be fairly quiet, her soft voice was nothing like the shrieking squeal you'd hear when she's excited to see you today.
She's never had much of a childhood, many people would consider that as a reason for her immaturity and short attention span-- hence her constant need for fun and a decent distraction.
Liv lacks confidence, but she's kept a pretty good façade of showing otherwise.
She's naïve, an utterly terrible liar-- especially if something's on her chest, Livanna would have to get it out by any means necessary. Conflict causes her a great deal of stress until the issue it's resolved. Liv is extremely sensitive and seeks validation in almost anyone she meets.
In shorter terms, Livanna has the personality of an eight year old on a sugar high.
- Growing up
Livanna Moore is the daughter of Silas Moore, the infamous blues singer of the 90s. He was a man who was fawned over by his beauty and shocking inability to age. His voice carried him further than his compulsion did and vowed not to accept anything from his parents who had more connections than he could ever dream of.
The Moores owned half of the nightlife of Los Angeles. Nightclubs, exclusive restaurants, and hidden speakeasys that date back to the fifties.
The family goes back decades– a family that mainly consisted of vampires. Although it wasn't entirely rare for a vampire to marry off with a human. Usually said human would be turned before the wedding– that way their DNA was altered before a child was conceived.
Silas didn’t want to turn her. But Ella persisted– she didn’t want to be married and mortal. If he wasn’t growing old with her, what was the point?
His parents, both pure-blood vampires didn’t approve of her mother. She was nothing more than an art teacher when her father had bumped into her after a show. After endless apologies, they had eventually fallen in love and a few years later they were engaged. Silas’s parents had never given them their blessing and in return, he slowly and slowly cut contact with them, not bothering to invite them to the wedding.
Ella, her mother, had a hard time transitioning to vampirism.
Typically, it’s difficult for new vampires to control their cravings but Ella was… a different case entirely. She'd set into these "episodes" that seemed to play into a manic state. Which was dangerous for the supernatural-- but more so for the mortal lives their recklessness caused.
Silas couldn’t contact his parents for help, he didn’t have it in him to contact the few vampires he’d known in fear that a rogue vampire might turn up some alarms to hunters, supernatural “fanatics” or worse and they decided to turn her into the elders.
She’d come close to losing her humanity so many times he grew worried that he was losing her entirely. Silas knew a friend, he wasn’t a vampire, but he was fairly experienced with the supernatural. Ella wasn’t fond of the treatments. No vampire would be comfortable with multiple injections of slade root burning in their veins every week. It was given in small amounts not to harm her permanently.
They weren’t sure if it’d work. She was switched to animal blood earlier on and it continued to make her sick.
Surprisingly, the treatments had dimmed a good amount of the thirst she was craving. Slowly by slowly, these treatments began to take a toll on Ella.
Physically, she’d grown so weak it seemed impossible she was a vampire in the first place. Silas began to recognize Ella for who she was and not who he had mistakenly turned her into. It was only when she fell pregnant most of her strength returned, the baby’s DNA provided her some of the strength she was missing, those nerves were burned by the slade root being injected had healed some.
Pregnancy was the easiest she'd had it. Those nine months went by like a blink of an eye, in bliss and without the interruption of an episode.
After the birth of Livanna, her mother quickly fell back into her old ways, a newfound sense of strength, a stronger compulsion, hearing, speed– they weren't sure what caused it– it was possible that because they had stopped the treatments in fear of harming the child, most of her cravings returned stronger than ever.
Ella had a trail of bodies that gained the attention of the council soon enough and an investigation was launched. She was as good as gone, leaving Silas behind after his many failed attempts to control his wife. Silas's parents had forced themselves back into his life after learning about the birth of his child.

Alike many pop stars, there was rumors of substance abuse as the years went on and they weren't entirely wrong. Liv partook in an endless amount of drugs but vampires had a stronger tolerance-- it was difficult to get one addicted to a substance.
The drugs were introduced by her manager, Liam.
The two had a very... interesting relationship to say the least. His job was to make sure she didn't embarrass the label land shed rarely had any creative control over her music. Everything needed to be ran by him or the board-- she needed permission to do the smallest thing.
His abuse had started early on, controlling, and using her in every way possible. Despite Liv's strengths, usually, vampires didn't fully develop until they mid-adolescence.
She didn't tell anyone. Her father was usually gone and only visited on weekends-- and if word had gotten out to her grandparents, they'd force her out of the spotlight.
The music scene isn't what they wanted for Silas, and it wasn't something they wanted for their granddaughter. Being in the spotlight was careless, fifty years from now, it was unlikely they could come back from the questions the public would raise about them being ageless or worse, caught in the act unknowingly, unable to compel the witness before they got the story out and that was that.
Her cravings and fangs had fully developed by the time she was sixteen, Liam had reached for the buttons on her blouse and something... inside her just snapped. Whether it was hatred or survival instinct that kicked in... she had called her father minutes later, unable to control her sobs long enough to explain what happened.
Silas walked in the recording studio and the room was covered with blood that wasn't her own.
The academyLivanna was sent to Nightshade Academy by her grandparents, the gossip and tabloids had labeled it as drug addiction. Sent to a boarding school to better and rehabilitate herself. Sophomore year was interesting to say the least. Livanna had met so many different people, different powers-- different capabilities. And that's when she realized she didn't know enough about the supernatural community despite being in it.
She knew about sirens, empaths-- and of course, werewolves, but the list didn't end there.
She just knew more about werewolves because of her grandparents and their endless warnings not to get involved with them. The feud between vampires and werewolves went back centuries over hunting grounds.
Nowadays, the supernatural species are much more reformed, sophisticated and intend to become climb the social ranks, judging each other by the strength of their businesses and prosperity. Just because society evolved doesn't mean that the feuds aren't any less dangerous, subtle threats are always hinted. In fact, a fair amount of the elites werewolf families-- or packs as they'd put it, have a safe amount of slade root growing incase they'd ever need it.
She's always been warned about getting involved with them. Livanna grew up in the spotlight and was trained to humanity, there was so much she didn't know about her supernatural peers enough to feel like she didn't quite fit in with the rest of her class.
With her cravings growing stronger, the few rumors that surrounded her when she first arrived were piled up and she was perceived as dangerous to some. Anyone who knew Liv wouldn't believe them for a second.
But anyone who truly knew Liv, knew what she was capable of-- especially with the manic episodes she had experienced over break. She was treading a very dangerous line and the last thing she wanted to become was her mother.
Or in simpler terms, a monster.

As for her “shadow” magic, to the eye it isn’t any different from the Hearthstone abilities— but Esme’s powers didn’t naturally develop, it’s mainly the entity either provoking illusions or using it’s spirit of themselves, allowing Esme to puppeteer as her shadow.

A "conscience" of sorts has been the main aggressor of her ideas, usage of magic, spells and caused Esme to become a tad more argumentative.
Forbidden Magic is tricky, the results and feeling alone is highly addictive and leave the user susceptible to negative influences, for instance, lack of proper knowledge could even lead to magic loss or dangerous effects— including death. Esmeralda is the definition of mischievous. There's always something up her sleeve and she rarely does anything without reason. She's stubborn, impulsive, judgmental and closed-off. Growing up with an obvious lack of powers had formed a cloud of insecurity that hides under her many layers that very few can uncover.
Most of her parents-- and the school's attention was placed on her older brother, when she's at the center of attention, it's usually because she had done something "wrong" or at the very least, she derived a plan to humiliate one of the lesser kids at the academy, pull a prank on a teacher, or simply cause havoc.
Esme found a natural high from creating chaos. Most of her incidents were a desperate attempt to have her parents look her way-- typically, she was given a slap on the wrist for her schemes, the Hearthstones convinced that she was acting out in result of being a "late bloomer." She's confident, humorous, seductive and prides herself on social status.

Rafael and Mariana Hearthstone are alumnus of Nightshade academy, Rafael, a direct descendant of Kareem Hearthstone, founder of the Shades and former headmaster at the academy.
One of two of the most influential families in the magical world, the Hearthstones have passed their otherworldly shadow abilities down to their children every generation without fail.
A long winded rivalry with Nightshade’s other prominent family, dated back to the witch trials when the Hearthstones had betrayed the Hawthornes, essentially leaving their ancestors to burn at the stake. (ow.) In retaliation, the Hawthornes placed a curse on their family name, to be burdened with a shadow curse for all of eternity.
Generation after generation, the curse became more and more like a blessing as their ancestors learned how to control their shadow abilities to become ultimately more powerful than the average caster.
Nevertheless, hatred for the other family was instilled into Esme and Ezra from the youngest of ages.
second stage of life
Growing up, there was often an unspoken competition between the two siblings. Who was stronger, quicker, faster, smarter– if you asked either of them who was you’d definitely have them talking about themselves and their accomplishments over a lengthy five minutes.
Childhood was filled with insecurities and expectations on one side to the other. Esmeralda was always envious of her brother’s abilities and his knack for magic— with her obvious lack of powers and inability to conjure or hold a spell for a long period of time had Esme challenge herself intellectually, but unfortunately, it was clear that a handful of languages, arts, and dead history meant nothing to her family if she was powerless.
Ezra however, was the more favored child since he was adept with his powers at a young age, although this came with an immense amount of stress and constant “reassurance” that he’d need to live up to the family name. (fill in whatever you wanna here)
Accidents, mistakes, and mishaps were already in-line with Esmeralda and her unstable magic– but when it came to Ezra and his own troubles, their parents were much more harsh on him than they were her.
While not twins, the siblings were effortlessly more alike than they knew– stubborn, hard-headed and the hidden fear that neither of them will ever amount to enough.
third stage of life
It was the end of sophomore year for Esme and junior for Ezra when Hayleigh Ashfield, the astronomy teacher, had mysteriously disappeared. The rumors circled around the school until everyone eventually settled on the idea that she just… quit teaching.
Neither of siblings blamed her, the academy was filled with people beneath them, the Hearthstone name instilled a sense of condescension– not to mention they were both Shades, their grandfather– and ex headmaster was the one who founded them which only added to their superiority complex.
She had learned about the book from an earlier class, it was said to hold immense power– but it was “behind a glass case for a reason.” The academy had always warned students about the use of forbidden magic and the book itself had many spells that fell under that category.
The night of winter formal Esmerlada devised a plan while everyone including the teachers, were distracted by their school sanctioned party and successfully stole it. It’d taken almost the entire night to translate the page she was looking for– but all Esmeralda needed to see was the promised power.
She performed the ritual in the woods and besides the candles flames immediately being snuffed out by the end of it.
Well, nothing much happened– or so she thought.
(Just so we can make things clear, the ritual she had done-- Esme unknowingly opened a gate somewhere to a realm filled with demons, monsters, and whatever else you can think of-- not saying she's the one to blame, but... she's the one to blame.)
The next few weeks were filled with countless migraines until the night of Jason Huxley’s death. This voice appeared– seemingly to be her conscience but it was anything but.
After the school closed and Esmeralda readied herself for junior year, the voice had only gotten stronger and more persuasive– it wasn’t anything she was afraid of, especially after she realized she could hold one of the most powerful spells longer than any student at Nightshade.

At surface-level, Veronika appears just as prim and proper as she so often pretends to be. Though she’d been gifted at birth with the same curls her twin brother sports, she views them as a burden more than anything, opting to keep her hair styled in neat waves instead. Her choice clothing aesthetic is very preppy, bordering on something far too professional for someone still in their teens—blouses and dress pants are a staple in her wardrobe, as are the occasional sweater vest and pleated skirt combo. No matter the outfit, it wouldn’t be complete without her signature black platform loafers to match the dark color scheme she’s adopted for herself.
Veronika’s small stature can be misleading for those that haven’t interacted with her before. It all started with a ball.
Well, arguably, it started at Veronika’s birth into the world, but the ball set things into motion.
Children are messy, and she and Varian were no exception. They left toys out when and where they pleased with little regard to future consequences until one day, Veronika reaped a rather big one. While bounding down the long, spiral staircase leading from the second story to the entry hall, she was halfway down when her foot fell on a stray ball that had been discarded. She tumbled the rest of the way, landing at the bottom in a bloody, bruised, and battered heap.
A red trail dripped along her hairline, puddling on the floor beneath her head as Veronika fought to remain conscious, her eyes trained on the ceiling until she found to her surprise that she was somewhere else.
Veronika was still staring upwards, but her vision was blurry, and the ceiling she was looking at was not the one in her home. Here, the lighting was too bright, and to her right, a machine beeped in a steady rhythm. The sheets were stiff against her legs, and when she reached a hand up, the gash on her forehead was rigid from where it had been stitched shut.
The sound of her mother’s voice snapped Veronika out of the trance, and all at once, she was back in the floor of the Hawthorne house. Mrs. Hawthorne recognized the signs—that distant gaze at the presence of blood, the confusion in her daughter’s eyes—and knew what Veronika was capable of, the magic that had been awoken within her. It was only a matter of time before that skill was being exploited.

Over time, Veronika learned to control her power of Hematomancy, much to her parents delight. Her grandfather had possessed the same gift, one that the family had utilized in many an underhanded “business” deal—for a price, any diplomat or mafia kingpin could know the future of their leadership, if only they were willing to face the risk of unmentioned consequences later—but after his passing shortly after the twins’ birth, that particular speciality had been put to rest with him. Now, though, it seemed as if the door of opportunity was opening again.
At a mere twelve years old, Veronika was being forcefully ushered into hushed, dark rooms full of government officials, crime bosses, and military leaders to grant them insight to their endeavors. All the while she was sworn to secrecy as she quietly set into motion social uproars to the unknowing fool that sought out a Hawthorne’s guidance.
As for the Hawthornes? They were never on the receiving end of these consequences—it was an unspoken knowledge that they were tied to these happenings, though their names were never thrown about. After all, it was damning evidence enough that these high-status individuals had turned to the aid of dark magic, and they never wanted it brought to the light if they could avoid it.

While in the care of Nightshade Academy, Veronika follows in her family’s footsteps, though much more willingly now that she’s the one calling the shots.
She would help people, yes, but only if there was something in it for her as well, whether that be money, favors, or a temporary alliance for the sake of gaining something from them in the future.
Only an idiot hopes to make a deal with a Hawthorne and make it out unscathed.
Or someone who was just plain desperate, and Jason fit that bill. He turned to Veronika for help shortly before his untimely—not to mention mysterious—death, claiming that someone (or something) was hunting him and that he wanted to know how to stop it. After performing the ritual to summon a vision, she didn’t quite find the answers Jason was asking for.
Instead of a solution to his problem, Veronika saw his demise, along with a mysterious page written in a language she couldn’t understand, one side of it jagged as if it had been ripped from its original source. When she at last opened her eyes to be met with Jason’s fearful ones, she opted to lie, telling him that she’d seen nothing—her visions weren’t always predictable, and her usual method for bringing them on hadn’t worked. He was nervous enough as it was, and Veronika couldn’t find it within herself to tell him of his quickly approaching fate, given how unpreventable it was—she hadn’t even seen who had caused it, or a clear depiction of where he was.
What still haunts Veronika about this now, though, is that her visions tend to tell her what she needs to know most, so what had it been trying to tell her?
Veronika is the picture perfect example of what a Hawthorne is—cold and calculated by nature, charming and well-mannered when it serves her, but a stone-hearted bitch when it doesn’t. She looks after herself first and foremost—sometimes Varian, when she’s feeling generous—and doesn’t care how her choices could potentially effect others in a negative way as long as things work out according to her own agenda. She’s been known to get close to people for the sole purpose of using them for personal gain—“keep your friends close but your enemies closer” takes on a new meaning when one prefers enemies to friendship—only to stab them in the back once the opportunity presents itself.
In a way, there’s some validity in Veronika’s habit of keeping people at bay. In the Hawthorne household, love isn’t exactly a thing that flows freely through its many winding hallways—the children are taught that emotion shows weakness, a sentiment that has been drilled into Veronika for as long as she can remember. It’s easier, she’s found, to not let people in at all—to only show the part of herself she wants them to see—rather than risk an attachment that could get her in trouble further down the line.
Truly, this is rooted in a place of insecurity and fear, though if anyone were to suggest such a thing to Veronika, she would deny it, at the very least. She’s afraid of failure, and what would happen if she’s no longer able to live up to the standards her parents have set for her. She’s been a firsthand witness to the way in which her brother has been treated for years, remaining silent to avoid facing her family’s wrath. She does anything she can to come out on top if it means remaining in their amicable graces for fear of what would become of her if she’s suddenly deemed not good enough for the Hawthorne name.

Axel’s appearance is just as relaxed as he is (most of the time). Though his hair is trimmed relatively short, it’s still long enough to be tastefully disheveled—each morning, instead of brushing it, he runs his fingers through his hair until it’s sticking up at odd angles. Similarly to that, his clothes intentionally sloppy. Big shirts—t-shirts, sweatshirts, or sweaters, depending on the weather—and semi-baggy pants are his go-to, which are always to be paired with his favorite scuffed-up sneakers and an assortment of rings on his fingers. He’s a big fan of layering, too, so that he can be comfortable no matter the temperature of the space he’s in.
At 6’2”, Axel towers over most, though more often than not, there’s nothing especially intimidating about his large stature until he’s angered, which happens rarely. If anything, he could be compared to a big dog—his bark is often worse than his bite, falling closer to the side of cuddly and clumsy than vicious and malevolent. His face is easily readable by those around him—it’s always clear what he’s thinking; whether his emotions are expressed in a smile or a scowl, he doesn’t try to hide them.

The belief that large families are full of love is a misconception when it comes to the Jericho household. Axel, along with his four brothers and sister can all attest to that because for Mr. and Mrs. Jericho, having that many children is nothing but a way to maintain their social standing.
Even when they were little, it was evident how controlled they were. Their parents seemed to have a say in everything they did, from the kids they hung out with to the extracurriculars they partook in, and it was only a precursor to the hell they’d be put through as they grew older.
Axel’s oldest brother was the first to fall victim to their parents’ unsolicited matchmaking services. He doesn’t remember much from this time—Axel was preoccupied with his first shifting experience and the aftermath it left in its wake, but there were some things he didn’t understand then that had been engraved in his mind: the hushed voices coming from the dim living room, Axel’s brother’s tense posture and the way his feet shifted on the plush carpet, and the way his mother’s gaze had flickered to his silhouette in the doorway (his presence given away by a creaking floorboard) and the forced smile that followed as she ushered him away.
It seemed so insignificant at that moment, but Axel’s not a child anymore.

Axel’s time at Nightshade gave him a newfound sense of freedom from his parents’ tight clutches, one that they hadn’t entirely counted on. He abuses this time away from home, making the most of it to get into as much trouble as he pleases.

Axel was raised to believe that vampires were more monster than human, a danger to society as a whole—they even had a greenhouse situated behind their home with enough Slade Root to last many lifetimes—so what better way to spite his parents and their elitist practices than to become romantically involved with the so-called enemy of their species in a relationship of near Romeo and Juliet proportions?
Of course, Axel never intended to fall for the vampire. Liv was only ever supposed to be a bit of fun—he’d seen the way she looked at him, and why not take advantage of the situation? The next thing he knew, however, he found himself actually caring for her, and there was nothing he could do to stop the way his feelings grew from there.

After Axel failed to graduate, his parents cast the blame onto Liv, claiming that she was a distraction from his studies. While they weren’t entirely wrong, Axel simply didn’t care for school, which couldn’t possibly be Liv’s fault. There was no convincing his parents of that, though, and they kept him on a lockdown for most of the summer to prove it.
That was only the beginning.
Axel soon ended up in an all too familiar situation—feet shifting uncomfortably on the carpet as his fingers fiddled with his silver rings, itching for an escape as he listened half-heartedly to the conversation unfolding before him between his parents and the Mayfields.
He was to be with a good werewolf girl, as his brothers had been.
Under any other circumstances, Axel probably would have run for the hills—as much as he wanted to put up a fight, his parents were just about as stubborn as he was—but as it was, Desirae was no bigger a fan of the situation than he was. She had nothing to do with the arrangement and was perfectly fine to continue business as normal, as if the arrangement had never been made—Axel could go back to not knowing she existed (almost) and to Liv for all Desirae cared, so it seemed.
The only problem was that Liv had gone radio silent since the summer began, and Axel had no idea what he’d done to deserve such a thing. Their parents were likely behind it, but one could never be too sure.
Axel is about what one would expect from someone in a band: charming, confident, and cool. He’s not exactly the most outgoing person—rarely would he consider approaching someone else first—but there’s a certain magnetism about him that draws others in. He carries himself with an easy sort of self-assuredness, the kind that lets everyone know that he doesn’t care what they think—love him or hate him, but he knows who he is and won’t change for anyone. Overall, he tends to be a laidback individual—bordering on lazy even, as he leaves the problem-solving to others as much as he can get away with, preferring instead to mind his own.
As much as Axel is known for his easygoing personality, even he has his limits. Though he isn’t necessarily quick to anger, he does have quite the temper once he reaches his breaking point. He can get a bit carried away, and that, paired with his unpredictable recklessness, makes him a dangerous force to be reckoned with. Even when he’s not, angry, though, Axel still has his downfalls. Despite his generally friendly disposition, he’s an acquired taste. The egotistical and self-centered ways that many musicians are so notorious for are both things synonymous with Axel, as is an individuality complex—a need to fuel his desire to be considered “better than most.” He’s not above manipulating others to see him in a good light, and sarcasm comes as a second nature, often speaking before he thinks about how those around him might perceive his words.
There’s a select few that Axel remains loyal to and truly cares for. Though he tends to avoid conflicts if at all possible, his overprotective nature (regrettably) won’t allow him to sit back and watch if someone he loves is in danger’s path. Though his overprotectiveness can border on overbearing, he usually means well, only wanting what he feels is best for the other party.

Roman’s appearance is one of a man in love with himself who expects others to be, too. He spends a shameful amount of time (and hairspray) on his hair to get that perfectly imperfect look. Despite the fact it looks like he’s just dragged his fingers through it, he hates for anyone to touch his hair for fear of the simple action ruining his hard work. His clothes are always very eye-catching, whether it be because of bold patterns or interesting fabric textures. He clearly puts a lot of thought into what he puts on his body, something that screams for attention, though he would never outright admit to such a thing.
Though Roman isn’t exactly the nicest person, there’s nothing about his 6-foot-tall stature that makes him intimidating. His lean build is proof enough of his stance on being a lover rather than a fighter. Even further, he’s clumsier than he’d care to say, though he somehow manages to pull off each trip with a certain charm that not many people possess. His face is one of mischief, as if he’s constantly teetering on the edge of a good joke, his brown eyes rarely lacking the teasing twinkle that so many people have either come to love or hate.

There was nothing special about the Duke family; in fact, they were all perfectly average until Roman came along and shook things up as he is so prone to doing.
Many children are scared of ghosts, giving their parents the hard task of convincing they’re not real—despite the debatable validity of such a statement—but such an excuse never would’ve worked on Roman. For as long as he can remember, he’s been plagued by his ability to see the dead, those spirits trapped between death and the afterlife. Naturally, it was a frightening phenomenon at first, but it didn’t help that he was the only member of his family to possess such a trait.
His parents began to treat him differently once they became aware of Roman’s ability—which took arguably longer than it should have, due to the much-preferred option of him simply having an overactive imagination. They believed that he was cursed—a fluke—and kept him away from others whenever possible to avoid any slip-ups that might raise suspicion. The last thing the Dukes wanted was for their name to be dragged through the mud because of their “freak” son.

At 16, Roman ran away from home. Their distaste for him was obvious—they didn’t try to hide it in the slightest—and there was no one to mourn his absence. One last-minute, poorly thought-out decision led to another, and by some semi-fortunate twist of fate, he landed in the town of Pine Creek.
After meeting Wes Mosby, the bass player for a local grunge band coincidentally in need of a lead singer and a roommate, Roman took the chance, deciding then and there that he no longer wished to be the scared little boy that no one wanted—he was going to be somebody, to make a name for himself, no matter how tarnished it may have been.
Roman was done with the ghosts—both literal and metaphorical—of his past.
The only problem was that the ghosts weren’t exactly finished with Roman. It didn’t matter where he went, there was always some poor spirit lingering—lying in wait for anyone that could see and help them—and try as he might to ignore them, all it took was one slip-up for Axel Jericho to put the pieces together about the band’s newest member.
Axel was older than him by nearly a year and, along with their guitar player at the time, oddly stand-offish, as if they had something to hide. Wes didn’t seem to notice—most of the time, he wasn’t even on the same plane of existence as the rest them—and while a part of Roman wondered what their deal was, he ultimately decided that it wasn’t his business until Axel caught him telling a chair to shut up, only to find out that there was an entire school full of people with strange powers and curses like his.

By the time Roman was enrolled at Nightshade, the damage had already been done. Instead of expanding on his abilities, he continued to suppress them as he was so acclimated to doing, relishing instead in the newfound attention that his false confidence garnered. Being in a band with Axel Jericho, it seemed, had its perks.
It was a shame Roman was so adamant on not using his power, though, given how useful of a gift it was considering the recent events that had befallen the school.
Even Roman’s self-concerned nature wasn’t enough for him to not notice the addition of a new spirit roaming the campus—a certain recently-deceased student, to be exact. It was a morbid thing, really, that he wasn’t prepared for in the slightest. He’d never encountered the ghost of someone he’d known before, and it was painfully grounding in a way that he hadn’t expected. A part of him hoped that if he ignored Jason long enough, he’d go away, though he knew he’d never be that fortunate. An even larger part of him feared the information he’d find out if he engaged with the ghost, so for now, he’s content to ignore him. If the number of dead students haunting the grounds were to increase, however, Roman might actually have to be useful for once…right?
Everything about Roman is built on a lie. After living so much of his life in fear and ashamed of who and what he was, leaving home was a chance at a new start and the perfect opportunity to re-invent himself for an audience that didn’t know of the life he’d had thus far. Perhaps a mistake, but Roman decided there was no better time to be the complete opposite of what he was before.
Overly-confident, Roman often comes across as egotistical and arrogant, which, considering the way the newfound freedom and attention has gone to his head, isn’t too far from the truth at the moment. He has a bad habit of finding a way to make everything about himself and expecting others to go along with it. That, paired with the fact that he regularly uses and manipulates others for his own selfish gain, tends to keep people at an arm’s length—no one wants to get close enough to be hurt, and he doesn’t want to risk letting down his walls only to be rejected again, so he opts to be his worst self up-front, avoiding any sort of long-term commitment.
If one were to strip off that mask of falsely-made confidence, however, at his core, Roman is still not much more than a coward. He cares too much how others perceive him—hence the copious efforts put into his appearance and the “cool band guy” persona—and runs from his problems rather than facing them head on. He can only run for so long, though, before someone catches up with him long enough to uncover the truth.
What Roman lacks in courage, he makes up for in passion. His out-there personality is a product of feeling emotions strongly—too much so, at times. He has a strong drive to get what he wants—to milk life for all it’s worth—and it makes for a certain level of ambition that other people his age tend to lack. When he gets excited about something, whether it be a personal project or an upcoming event, he can get a little too eager, tending to take things overboard, but it all comes from a caring place of wanting everything to be just right.

For the offspring of such a prestigious family as the Wards, Shiloh doesn’t look nearly as put-together as her mother would probably like. Blessed—or cursed, depending on who you ask—from birth with a head of wild, curly hair with a mind of its own, she often falls victim to Meredith’s incessant preening, insisting that Shiloh’s mane be tied back for any sort of important public appearances. When left to her own devices, though, Shiloh is perfectly happy to let her hair do as it pleases. As far as her style goes, that often falls into her mother’s hands as well. Shiloh has so long been subjected to her mother’s taste that she’s not entirely sure what her own opinions regarding clothes are. Her time at Nightshade Academy, when she’s not in uniform, would be well-spent to experiment with fashion.
Shiloh is tall for a girl her age, and because of it, she’s always felt a little awkward and gangly in her own skin. Height seems to run in her family, though, given her brother’s stature, so she assumes she’ll grow into it eventually, but for now, at times, she’s like a baby deer on ice. Along that same vein, Shiloh has the doe eyes to match, full of a sense of wonder and childlike innocence. Her smile is warm and inviting, almost unfitting for a place like Nightshade, but a welcome change, perhaps.

Since the day she entered the world, Shiloh Ward had been coddled. For her mother, she was like a babydoll—the picture perfect mini me for her to dress up and take with her wherever she went. To Malachi, Shiloh was an angel on Earth, incapable of doing any wrong, and she was like the sister Khalani Noh never had. Everything had been handed to her on a silver platter of sorts—life treated her better than most, so it should have been easy for her, but even fairy tales have a darker side.
The Ward children were heavily secluded growing up, the company they kept monitored at all times. Aside from each other, Khalani, whose family were close friends of theirs, was the only approved accomplice to whatever childish revelries they could get away with. Even their parents kept to themselves, though Meredith seemed more sympathetic about her extensive time away than their father ever did. In fact, it seemed his own family consistently held the last spot on his list of priorities, but that was just as well—he was never in good spirits anyway.
It was Shi and Kai against the world, until one day, all at once, it wasn’t.

When Malachi enrolled in Nightshade Academy, he unintentionally left Shiloh in the dust, taking Khal with him. For once in her life, Shiloh was truly alone and left to her own devices, and while most kids her age would’ve used that as a chance to rebel, she didn’t know what to do with herself. When she wasn’t playing the role of her mother’s right hand man, she used her newfound free time to experiment with her powers. She’d found that by manipulating her own aura, she could bend reality to her will.
If she didn’t have any friends to play with, she could make her own.
The time eventually came for Shiloh to enroll in Nightshade for her freshman year, and she was ecstatic to finally be getting out on her own, following in Malachi’s footsteps, only for her hopes to be shattered when her mother inevitably opted to keep her home for another year instead. She was to continue her education under the guidance of a tutor all for the sake of Meredith, who was too overprotective and attached to send her favorite child away.

By sophomore year, Shiloh was at last granted the ticket to the outside world she so desperately craved. Nightshade was a chance to be among her peers, to meet people her age with magical gifts of their own. While she loved her mother and—shamefully enough, the doting that came with her—Shiloh wanted close friendships that even Meredith Ward couldn’t provide.
It also meant, however, spending more time with her brother, and while that was something she’d missed, it wasn’t the only thing. Malachi seemed more stressed than Shiloh ever remembered him being, and she couldn’t help feeling guilty for not noticing sooner because while she’d been on the receiving end of their mother’s babying, Kai had been subjected to Meredith’s relentless perfectionism.
The time away from home will be good for them both—hopefully—unless whatever killed Jason comes back for more, in which case once again, it’ll be the Ward siblings against the world.
Shiloh is and always has been what those around her wanted her to be: an obedient daughter, a helpful little sister, a good friend. She has no real sense of identity as to who she would be if those roles were suddenly taken away. She’s used to others making the decisions for her, then morphing to better fit their needs—she’s like a chameleon of sorts. In a way, she’s scared to be her own person—she likes the comfort that hiding in someone else’s shadow provides for her.
Some might describe Shiloh as a pushover, but she prefers the term “laidback.” She always keeps an open mind for any given situation, ready to go along with whatever plans or ideas might be thrown her way. Because of this, it often comes across that she doesn’t have a voice or opinion of her own, though that’s not the case—she simply doesn’t have the courage nor the desire to express it. The most resistance seen from her comes in the form of a mildly sassy remark—lacking any real bite, of course—directed at her brother in a moment of teasing.
By nature, Shiloh has a kind heart, which is seen as a weakness as well. She cares for any living thing, whether it be a human or animal, and often puts the needs of others before her own. She’s always willing to help whenever possible, dropping everything the moment a friend asks for a hand with something. In this sense, she’s loyal to a fault, making it all too easy for others to take advantage of her if they really wanted to. Luckily for her, she can always count on Malachi to be there for her to prevent such a thing from happening. Then again, it would be good for Shiloh to at last break out into the world on her own, to find her place without someone there to guide her each step of the way, and Nightshade might finally provide that window of opportunity for her.

Davina's hair normally dries wavy and a little frizzy unless she does something with it which she often does. It's a beautiful chocolate color that she dyes but only to add some texture to it, she's never actually strayed too far from the natural color before. She has captivating, rich brown eyes that pair perfectly against her light olive skin and a full pout that seems to be a defining feature when people describe her. Standing at around 5'4 or 5'5, she would consider herself of average height and she sports a petite and toned build due mostly to her vampire genes.
She got her first and only tattoo while on the run by compelling a tattoo artist in (insert city here). Ironically it's a tramp stamp that says angel with devil horns perfectly placed on top. She also has her ears and belly button pierced. Oh, and she wears this golden, vintage-looking necklace at all times that was gifted to her from her secondary mother just before they were raided by the council's henchmen.

Davina's father, Henry Jacobs, wasn't exactly one of those moral high ground vampires. You know, the types that run around preaching how much better it is to drink animal blood and how you "shouldn't harm the humans". Instead, he was slaughtering people and leaving them in the streets, draining people halfway and then compelling them to forget, doing whatever he wanted to get his way, etc.
Eventually, after trying everything they could to "fix him" his family wound up turning him into the higher-ups of his kind which resulted in him going on the run. He liked the adrenaline rush though and having this bounty on him didn't stop Henry from continuing his reckless behavior.
Then he found her, the woman who would soon become the mother of his children. Michelle was a blonde bombshell of a vampire and it didn't take much for sparks to fly between the pair. She introduced him to her friends, a small collective of other rouge vampires who had been banished, excommunicated, on the run, you name it. When they weren't blending in and in hiding, they were out getting into all kinds of trouble and quenching their thirst for both blood and chaos.
Michelle and Henry eventually compelled a priest to marry them which they found ironic and amusing, and then a year later they welcomed a baby girl into their disastrous life. Davina Jacobs; born on 11/11 at 11:11, it had to be some kind of weird sign from the universe. They called her their favorite wish and despite how destructive and intense their lifestyle or relationship could be, they loved and protected Davina with everything in them.
the middle parts
Davina grew up drinking from humans and/or blood bags stolen from various hospitals. She was taught that animal blood was for the weak and she would gain more strength, confidence and so on from humans. That it was their natural born right as vampires to take as they pleased and drink however much they required or just felt like. Her parents essentially taught her that the rules weren't theirs to follow and they basically did whatever they wanted. She was also taught to hate werewolves and to never trust others, especially ones who worked in light magic.
This lesson only proved essential when she was around fourteen. The so-called Rouges found themselves in a territorial fight with a pack of werewolves. It was deep in the bayou of New Orleans and the Rouges were looking for a new place to lay low. They assumed that they could take on a few mangy mutts and maybe they would've stood a chance had it not been for the twenty others lying in wait in the shadows.
Rumors swirled about a possible traitor in the group and it wasn't long before they figured out the rat had been none other than Davina's father. His own confession came when they basically interrogated everyone in the clan and he admitted to having an affair with one of the girls in the wolf pack and oversharing after a late-night rendezvous. Long story short, it was his fault they'd lost so many members and that Dav had to see her own mother get ripped apart.
The brunette never forgave him but not that it mattered much anyway. When it came to justice, the clan had its own vigilante way of going about things. Let's just say...Dav took part in said justice in a small way and in a matter of a couple of weeks, she had become an orphan. That was when Ella, a leader of the Rouges stepped in and decided to take Davina under her wing, quickly becoming a second mother to the girl.
It was only a little later, in fact it was the day after Davina's fifteenth birthday when the council finally tracked them to their latest hideout. The adults were all taken to a separate place while she and a few other children of members were taken to their remaining family member or elsewhere with hopes that the cycle could be broken and the young teens could be integrated into society with morals and such.

All of her life, Josie has been described as a bit of a wild card by both peers and adults/professors alike. Considering she’s bordering on being an adrenaline junkie, it’s not far off. Look, Josie just likes to have a good time and doesn’t really stop to think of any consequences beforehand, it's not that she wants to just go out and wreak havoc. She believes in living in the moment and enjoying the adventures that life throws her way rather than dwelling on all that kinda stuff. Who needs to be caught up in all the technical, boring mumbo jumbo anyway, right?

While Josie is hyper and way over-talkative and just tends to ramble on and on and on about...well, everything, there are the somewhat rare occasions where she falls silent. Typically she will hold back or shut down or just change the subject in order to avoid certain feelings/things and usually only when she's HURT. Jo just has good-hearted nature which has given people the impression that she is naive and can be taken advantage of pretty easily which is also fact.
The brunette is just constantly searching for the good in people regardless of others' opinions of them or if they sometimes show her themselves it isn't really there. It takes a lot for her to give up on people she becomes attached to or finds herself gravitating toward (she isn't sure why this happens, some people just draw her in without trying). This has been a problem in both friendships and past relationships for as long as she can remember.
People tend to think Josie is super simpleminded and maybe that's because of how goofy and carefree and just overall eccentric she can be. Like, sure, she might sometimes be slow to click to things, possibly a tiny bit ditzy but she is by no means a complete airhead. But she has common sense even if she doesn't always use it right away. People definitely underestimate her though.

Where her family consisted of a mother and father happily in love, a cozy home somewhere where there was no pressure or nagging grandmother lurking around. You see, Josie’s birth came about a year into an arranged marriage set up between two families who seemed to be after nothing more than a simple power grab. For years the De La Rosa’s and DuPont’s alike had been trying to up their status ranking among other influential families. Sure, they were powerful in their own rights, but not like the Hearthstone's or Ward's. When the top five families, they always seemed to be number 6 & 7.
They aimed to change that though, slowly but surely. They realized that a union could help them gain everything they were after and so the two families drew up a contract of sorts and waited for things to fall into place. In the meantime, they worked together on teaching each other their own unique magic specialties in order to grow the power even more. Memory manipulation and dream walking, when combined was one hell of a thing.
Years passed and each family eventually had their own children. The first-born girl of the DuPont family (Lana) and the first-born boy of the De La Rosa family (Antonia) grew up with expectations to not only excel in their crafts and each other's but to one day wed. It was sealed as their destiny of sorts and they never so much as complained, not that it would’ve made a difference.

Once the pair turned eighteen and nineteen respectively, they were brought together in a courting ceremony, and eventually a big wedding was held, then, of course, Josie came along. The families were ecstatic to see their plan unfolding and their names growing a little more ranking. Even Antonio (who had been equally raised to obsess over power) was pleased with their new bundle of joy. Lana, on the other hand….
The realization of being stuck in this loveless marriage forever with a screaming baby she’d now have to raise with a man who she completely loathed was overwhelming. She didn’t care about having a reputation in the magical families or even growing her power, she just wanted love and someone who looked at her as a partner not a way to up his social status.
And she found it…in the form of an affair with a non-magical man that started months after the birth of her daughter. The secret whirlwind affair lasted years, two and a half to be exact before Lana wound up pregnant once again. Only this time, she knew it wasn’t Antonio’s as they hadn’t been intimate in months. She attempted to hide this as she scrambled to figure out what to do about it but well, people talk and eventually word spread.
When Antonio’s mother learned of this, she became suspicious and it wasn’t long after that when she found out about the affair her wretched daughter-in-law had been participating in. Knowing that this could damage the reputation they’d worked so hard to build and that people would look down on them, Mama De La Rosa decided something drastic needed to be done.

And so, she gave Lana an ultimatum. To remain in the union and get rid of this secret lover to raise Josie and the new baby as De La Rosa’s or fake her death and run away with the lowly man she’d been sneaking around with, to have her perfect little family and “love” without any strings attached to the magical world. The only catch was that regardless of her choice, memories would be erased, never to be restored.
That's right. It was a choice to either get rid of her memories of Josie and the life she had now, or lose the memories of the secret lover and stay in the awful marriage. She had until the near end of her pregnancy to decide and Mama De La Rosa warned that if she attempted to take off with Josie, she would be found and suffer an even worse fate. A threat that Lana knew the woman wouldn't hesitate to act on.
Backed into a corner, Lana had to make the hard choice and long story short, she chose to leave Josie behind. So, when the time for the new baby to be born came along the story was put out that Jo’s mother had died due to complications from the labor and her new baby hadn't made it either. A funeral was held and that was that. By this time Jo was about 4 or 5 and for years that's what she grew up believing had happened.

As a sharp-edged and provocative character, Waylon stands out as the “cool guy in the corner,” shadowed by confidence and arrogance. On every level, he’s stylized himself as an icon draped in conceit. Even though this may seem unconventional, it has served as a staple throughout his childhood and into his adult life. Going into his adult life, or what his parents called the “rebellion years,” growing out his hair was the first sign. Curly, messy, and unbound are just a couple of descriptors to handle his mien on top, puffing out everywhere and anywhere. Occasionally, on better days, the strands can resemble a brown wave, intermixing and intermingling down towards his neck. Contrasting to his edge, his eyes are the same — filled with intensity, bridging between dark brown and specks of light. It’s hardened throughout his life, where little light can now attract his gaze. He does indeed look older than what his own age might suggest, freshly shaven, he can pass for younger but a little of fuzz strengthens his visage beyond. A powerful tool indeed, to sneak in anywhere — though, he prefers having a vellus beard. Reimold’s in history couldn’t be painted as powerful, not even close; but thanks to Waylon’s grandfather, he elevated his family from the trenches of nothing. A powerful shade, (according to what Way heard through the pipeline), perfecting his own practices and superstitions into his own younger daughter, Amanda Reimold. Her son was next to be the successor, to spin gold from the frayed strands and become something great — truly great — notorious for nothing and now something. Amanda was truly as dogmatic as her own father, hungry for power and greed. She sought something unobtainable, status to be known and adored; Waylon’s father was a spineless whelp in her design. He never stood up. In fact, if you asked Waylon now his opinion on his father, he’d recite, “She perfected vanity and he perfected sitting down.” Despite the stench of chaotic and dysfunction, Reimolds became something of a house name, thanks to his grandfather, standing, almost brushing shoulders with the elite.

Keaton's appearance vs his personality is like day and night. Prim and proper nothing is out of place except his hair, a tangled mess he sees no value in attempting to bother with fixing. When he's not in uniform Keaton opts for casual outfits. A basic t-shirt, a pair of jeans, slightly old but in good condition sneakers. Right ring finger is adorned with an obsidian ring with the Calum Family Crest that he never takes off.
Keaton stands at a slightly above average five feet 10 inches and gives off an aggressive "try me" energy found in many people who are slightly above average height. A little napoleon. His brown eyes absorb rather than reflect light. His physique makes up for what he lacks in height. Nearly 180 lbs of pure toned muscule. Built like that of a track and field star or a swimmer.

Keaton is the eldest son of Avory McAllister and renowned scholar Helena Calum, herself comes from a long line of Nightshade Alumnus. All his adolescence he heard stories about how great his father was in wake of his continued absence. Everyone seemed to have one. Everyone but him.
He'd often lie awake at night wondering why his father never made the effort to see him. His mother often avoided the question when he asked so he learned to stop asking it.
It wasn't until he was 14 did Keaton finally meet his father. It was only a passing glance at a party and one of his cousins had to point him out. Thinking it was a joke Keaton ignored it until he heard murmuring and caught the name Avory several times.
Keaton long since had given up hope of meeting his father but he couldn't fight the anxiousness nor the hope that his father had finally come to acknowledge him. Following him as he seemed to be heading to the direction of his mother's study. Keaton hiding in a alcove listened to their conversation
To his absolute shock (and no one else's) his father had not come for him, but to ask Helena about a piece of history in connection to the other houses of magic. Keaton had never heard his mother raise her voice in his life but he never forgot the righteous anger she wielded against his father. Telling him that it wasn't too hard to be a better father.
This was the moment when Keaton learned not to hope. To never meet your heroes cause they'll always let you down. It's here where he broke. His father had a new family. Another child he raised that had his magic. A child that he was proud of. That he loved. That he didn't view as a failure.
Keaton was so distraught that he didn't notice the shadow fall on him. It was his father. He didn't look embarrassed or apologetic. In fact his face conveyed an inhuman level of indifference.
"I'd rather you didn't hear that but what's done is done. If only you didn't inherit your mother's disposition we'd be having another conversation." He said before disappearing.
After that day there was a switch in Keaton's demeanor. It was so slight that many didn't notice but slowly but surely the shift became more noticeable but by than it was too late. Gone was the boy who painted pictures of flowers and played in the mud with his friends. Who studied magical history with his mother and baked cakes with the cooks.
Replacing him was a selfish and cold boy who only cared about himself. Who distanced himself from everyone around him. Who would never let his expectations allow him to be hurt this way again. Keaton going forward would live as he liked and not for the love or affection of anyone else.

Keaton used his time at the academy to kill that boy who cried in that alcove because his daddy didn't love him. Keaton found it ironic that his burial place would be the place where his parents met. Shedding his skin Keaton indulged himself in every vice the academy had to offer. And he loved every second of it.
He picked fights because he could. Insulted people because he could. Cheated on tests because he could. The rush he got from finally living for himself was intoxicating; he never wanted to stop. He would hear no more comparisons between himself and the man who didn't want him. If people were to judge him they'd be judging Keaton, not Avory's first born.

Keaton is still living on thrills and impulses but he is more selective about the choices he makes after he had a discussion with his mother about unnecessary risks.
Keaton has done his best to avoid the problems of his contemporaries for the past four years but the feeling in the pit of his stomach is telling him that his lucky streak has finally run out.
A self destructive mess. Keaton does not listen to his better angels instead opts to hear out the devil on his shoulder and throws caution to the wind in search of thrill and instant gratification. As long as he gets his fix he doesn't care about the people that are hurt, himself included. He will poke and prod and make a bad situation worse simply because that is who he is. He will pick a fight he knows he can't win just for the thrill and danger.
Abrasive and aloof, Keaton doesn't care to make connections, viewing them all as transactional. He very openly shows his disdain for people but not enough to burn bridges but he will if they prove to have a lesser value than he expected.
Arrogant and cunning to an obscene degree Keaton believes he is better than everyone. If people do not bow to his directions then he has no qualms with breaking them instead. And for those who are in more advantageous positions than him he does not directly challenge but plots how best to get them to do what he wants without them knowing.
A pessimistic downer who sees the glass half empty all the time. He expects the absolute worst from everyone he meets. When things go slightly wrong he does not hesitate to blow it out of proportion and consider it a net loss. Despite his worse aspects, Keaton isn't stupid. In fact his intelligence is the most notable thing about him.

PERSONALITY: Jagger is one of those rare types you may call an ‘enigma’. It’s not easy to tell how this guy may move, or what he might say, or the sort of mood he may be in. He isn’t someone you can categorize so easily, and he would prefer if you did not try. It may seem like he has an unapproachable vibe, which you are probably not wrong about, but he really is just someone that prefers to be the approacher, so to speak. Jagger values the unconventional, those that go against the grain and chooses to make their own decisions instead of doing what society expects of them. Jagger will usually be the one to ask questions that no one else will, to disturb the ‘peace’ that is disturbing him.

TIME MACHINE
HISTORY: Being the one and only son to an Yoruban spiritual worker, and a straight edged Irishman accountant, it was of no wonder why Jagger developed into such an internally conflicted character, which only becomes more apparent with age. His mother, Adenike Oluwa was a gorgeous, highly regarded spiritual worker both in her originating clan in Nigeria, and her current residence in Manhattan, New York, which was the common ground that his mother met his father, James Ashford, the son of immigrant farmers who migrated from Ireland to the states back in the mid 1900’s. The rest is fairly obvious, the two people met by chance, fell in love, and the rest was history.
Jagger was afforded to live a fairly generous life, his mother did not necessarily work, but she ran her own herbal apothecary in New York, while his father was a very busy accountant for various high profile people in different industries. Needless to say, Jagger grew exposed to two different worlds that made him realize he would have to navigate his own life and come to his own decisions instead of letting his parents do it for him. That is not to say his parents were not active in his life, they loved they're only son dearly, and Jagger knew this, but from even a young age, he knew not to rely on it, to not rely on the comfort of others, regardless if they were family. He was often called a ‘lone wolf’ by his peers for his loner attitude.
It wasn't until he was around twelve years old that he began to notice that he felt different. And not different in the way most pubescent boys are at that age, it was just different. Uncomfortable. He began to grow restless while in class, unable to sit still for too long, dragging his blunt fingernails across his desk, drawing the gazes of most in class. He started growing hair at a much quicker, and alarming rate than someone of his age should, his height skyrocketed than every boy in his class. It wasn’t until he got into his first school fight with some guy who was harassing a girl in their class and the dude ended up walking away with five jagged, claw-like marks across his face and a permanently damaged right eye that his parents finally noticed something was wrong.
That night, he can recall his parents having a heavy discussion in the kitchen, using hushed tones so as not to alert him. But somehow, he knew that whatever they were discussing, was going to change the rest of his life. And sure enough, the following week, Jagger was taken out of his public school in New York and sent to live with his dad’s side of the family in Ireland. When he came to find out, his grandparents were practically royalty in Ireland, owning their version of what could only be called a castle in his eyes. His father was a Viscount to the family name and he never knew. When he came to stay with his fathers side, they all but tried to remove the upper east side new yorker from him, and mold him into the actual viscount that his father clearly left home to escape from becoming. But the real truth of why he was sent to Ireland was because his parents intended to have him enrolled into Nightshade Academy. Apparently the same academy his grandparents, and even his father attended at some point. They believe he had the ‘gift’ the same as his father had, where he would only be able to truly tap into what that power is by going to Nightshade Academy.
On his day there, he was registered as a ‘shifter’ and so began his journey into the wild(literally) halls of Nightshade Academy where it's secrets are what has kept Jagger in recurring attendance.
Other:
- Despite being more so surrounding by his European side of family, he was brought up spiritually by his mother and as such, developed a lot of her belief systems and traditions from her.
- At present, his years in Nightshade has honed his shifting capabilities exponentially since enrollment. Being able to shift in nearly any creature that he seem himself becoming. His preferred form he tend to takes most often is that of a Jaguar.

Drumming at the speed of light, that's Ulysses. He lives for music, specially anything that involves drumming. He plays the drums and has played around with other instruments, but doesn't get past the basics with them. He loves watching movies, specially action ones with lots of explosions, car chases and gun fights. When he's not drumming, he's listening to music, eating or watching something on the television or his phone.
He loves parties, concerts, parades, or anything that involves a big crowd of people having fun together. Being alone is boring for him, unless he has something to really focus on. Although he loves being part of groups, he tries not to hug the spotlight, for too long. Jokes and wild stories are his favorite to listen to, but he won't admit he loves some drama every now and then.

Lunar Magic:
Allows for the user to be able to summon the powers of the moon to his advantage. However, the user heavily depends on the moon itself for thise, therefore, during the day or nights when there is no moon available, the user lacks their powers. But, in an event of a full moon or eclipse, the wielder of Lunar Magic is at their strongest.
Ulysses has access to two different abilities that come from Lunar Magic.
Light manipulation: He can increase the lighting in an area around him, making it brighter or darker. On his best days he can make things go blinding bright or pitch black, but when the moon is barely visible, he can just increase or decrease the light just a bit more.
Gravity manipulation: Ulysses can control the gravity around him, either increasing it or decreasing it. When the moon is full he can make things around him float like a feather or make them drop like a rock. During the day though, he can just make your hair messy.

Ulysses is a third generation wizard, a family that has always worshiped and followed the moon spirits. Although a lot of their powers vary, Ulysses got the most common ones. He isn't ashamed of it though, he loves what he has and is proud of it. His mother and father would teach him the basics, but mostly argued he learned on his own. During full nights they would go out camping together, taking advantage of the boost they moonlight gave them and played around with their magic.
He has a younger sister, who just happens to be more talented than he is. Despite her young age, she seems to have more spark when it comes to using Lunar Magic compared to her older brother. He doesn't mind though, he's proud his sister is talented and helps her out as much as possible.
Ulysses' parents encourage their kids to be the best they can be, even if they decide to put magic aside, which is why they don't force them to practice.
Ulysses was born and raised in Los Angeles, Ca. His parents wanted a simple life, so they settled in a calm neighborhood. When Ulysses was born, they looked for steady jobs and a life style that would give their kids a taste of the normal world while still having access to their magical counter part. With his mother owning a flower shop and his father working in some office building, Ulysses started out his childhood making friends on the block, going to school, joining the local soccer team and even learning to play the drums. His parents were very supportive with any activities he grew interested in.
Once his sister was born, when Ulysses was eight, he tried to be as great as his parents were with him. Even when his sister started walking and talking, showing signs of a superior magically ability than his, Ulysses was more impressed than disappointed. His sister getting more attention did get to Ulysses though, even if he doesn't admit it, he started doing pranks in school, ditching class, hanging out with different friends and spending more time at a skate park. His parents figured it was because of his teenage years and didn't think too much of it. Until one day, Ulysses got arrested.
During one of those times he was with his friends, they broke in to an abandoned school, messing around, throwing and breaking things. Unfortunately, cops showed up and found weed on one of the boys. The whole group was taken in, charged for breaking and entering private property and holding illegal substances. Ulysses got a scolding after getting home and swore to never do something like that again, but he actually had fun. So, he did it again. He went out with his friends, breaking into old buildings, playing pranks on neighbors and going to parties. It was during one of these parties that he met a girl, who would later become the vocalist of their new band, Karla.
Ulysses and Karla hit it off, starting their own band, visiting each other's home frequently, going out almost everyday and even having each other's parents trust one another. The band was called Burning Crotch. They were great, playing at bars and public areas or parties. The members all seemed to keep switching, but the drummer was always Ulysses and his girlfriend Karla. This ended when Ulysses was 15. Ulysses wanted to reveal his magic to Karla, but his parents strongly opposed to do so, mostly because Karla's father was a very religious person. Not feeling the support from his parents, he escaped his house to try and go to Karla, willing to finally show her his true roots. Sadly, he was intercepted by his father. Afraid of their son making a big mistake they moved away to Pine Creek. A fresh start, where Ulysses could attend Nightshade.

Every night until she turned seven, Reyna would wake up covered in sweat, her sheets scattered around the room as she thrashed in her sleep. The same nightmare over and over again. It was so familiar, as if she had lived it herself. Through the entire nightmare, she could hear a voice softly whispering avenge us, avenge us on and on and on.
The nightmares only stopped when Rae finally manifested her powers. The smell of smoke strangled her nostrils, but this time it wasn't just a dream. Fire had spread from her bed throughout the entire house, her parents could be heard screaming as they rushed to get her.
When they got to her room and realized that the source of the fire was her, something instinctual snapped inside of her mother, a descendent of the Hawthornes who had been burned at the stake during witch trials, and instead of saving her child from the fire, Lily decided to snuff out the fire at its source: her daughter.
David managed to pull Lily off of their child before she could use her magic and do something she would regret, dragging both of them out of the house and eventually calming Rae until her powers extinguished.
After that night, Lily no longer lived at home. Rae rarely saw her mother for the next few years, only the occasional supervised visit with her father.
Scarred from what had happened that night, Rae rarely used her powers, afraid of another outburst she couldn't control. Fire was a dangerous magic, especially in a family that didn't know what to do with her.teen years
The Hawthornes weren't fond of fire, and therefor not too fond of little Rae either. As hard as she tried to be loved, Rae was the black sheep of the family. The one saving grace she did have was her cousin Emersyn, at least when her parents would let them hangout.
After years of distance, Rae's mother came home when she was 12. Lily still despised her daughter's power, but with time she had learned to be...mostly civil. Rae struggled to control her powers but had managed to teach herself the basics, though the unruly flames within her threatened to break free more often than she would like.
The intensity of her flames were even enough to spark lightning, and Rae found that lightning manipulation was even harder to control.

Andromeda enjoys surrounding herself with the company to feed her gregarious nature. In general, she is pleasant to be around, except for when her venomous words go flying. Usually, there needed to be some provocation, other times boredom had overtaken her. Andromeda cares more about her own enjoyment than anything else, but make no mistake, she can go from bubbly to bitchy like flipping a switch.
With an underboss and philanthropist as guiding figures early in her life, she had a cultured upbringing. While her mother still lived with them, she maintained the household in a very specific way, having OCD. This led to perfectionism being the core of Andromeda. After her mother left them, her development took a turn for the worse and she started developing interests in dangerous things, finding anything illegal to be worth her while. It was only a matter of time before she started becoming increasingly exposed to criminal activities, even if she wasn't participating herself, this world became normal for her. Andromeda's mother was a more positive influence in her life, now she was gone.
Capable of finding amusement in minuscule occurrences, she is also someone who can find the beauty in most, if not everything. Andromeda tries to maintain a certain level of sophistication in her daily life. In Japan, she had a reputation to uphold. Everyone knew she liked to have fun, but she held an air of severity, letting people know not to mess with her. At this point, it's a force of habit. She is much more approachable than she seems. Even so, she can become precarious if her buttons are pushed to their limits. Andromeda is a vivacious young woman, passionate about her convictions. The Hirose Family had ties with the yakuza since it was first founded. Toshinori Hirose was the father of Noritaka and Kyosuke. As the third leader of the yakuza, he quickly rose in popularity, being named 'The Moon's Godfather.' In the 1980s, with heat from the authorities rising, the third godfather and, his family went into hiding. With some guidance from his advisor, he settled on the small, inconspicuous town of Pine Creek. Fleeing Japan was difficult, but acclimating to a new country had to be done. The Godfather, continued all his underworld dealings right out of that small town as if nothing happened. That was the way of the world.
The brothers were eventually invited to attend Nightshade, a prestigious school most prominent in magic society. In school, Noritaka excelled, while Kyosuke tried his hardest to keep up with his brother. It wounded his pride, living in the shadow of his younger brother. To even up the playing field Kyosuke delved into dark magic, carrying out a ritual on the full moon to curse his younger brother. He was young and unthinking, and on the night of a full moon, he had the gall to carry it out. The ritual was interrupted by faculty before it could be completed, simply making his younger brother's life a nuisance for a week. As for Kyosuke, his abilities were extracted from him and he was expelled from the school grounds.
With his birthright stolen from him, and having few options, much like his father all those years ago, he fled. While his bridges were burned in magic society, he was able to return to Japan, soon becoming a member of the yakuza. And much later, he would become the fifth godfather.

It was silent the night Andromeda was born. From her first breath, she never got anything less than the world. Her father was Noritaka Hirose; an underboss for the Yakuza, and her mother was Juliet Mason; a part-time philanthropist and secretary to an Australian Bank CEO. Despite having a gangster as a father, he never fell short of loving his daughter.
Growing up in southern Japan, Andromeda only attended the finest schools. Early in life, her mother could no longer take the pressure of marriage to the brother of the boss. She always thought he would retire once Andromeda was born, she thought bringing life into the world would knock him straight. After all the years of fighting it didn't. And so, her mother left around the time she was in elementary school.The resentment filled her young heart, especially when she was left with her father. She always wondered why her mother waited, like pulling a bandaid off slow as possible. Andromeda wished she had abandoned her after she was born, at that point, she would never have the memories they shared. The separation was a nasty one, and the custody battle was even worse. Her mother fought till the end, but Andromeda ended up with her father who had pulled immense strings, and used his criminal underworld sway to achieve his goal. After then, Andromeda rarely saw her mother.

Things were bound to change with her mother out of their lives; the last string of order that she protected had been snipped in two. Since she was young Andromeda knew that her father was a good man, that sometimes had to do bad things. She did not know the full extent of her father's dealings, but after his wife left, strange men would often tread across the white sands of their home grounds. Never did she know what they spoke about with her father, how could she from her place peering out the window?
One evening she was supposed to be having a sleepover with a friend, but she forgot something at home—whatever it was had been lost in memory, after the droplets of blood hit the polished hardwood. It happened in an instant. There were two shots, one in the head and another in the chest. The body of the unknown man jolted and shook as if he were being electrocuted. After the last shot, he fell to the ground in a lifeless heap. A hand flew to cover her mouth, shakily stopping just before reaching it. Andromeda closed her eyes tightly, scattering her brain for her next move. When she knew, she opened them and glanced behind her, turning to tip toe toward the back door. There was no way her father could know she knew, she wasn't supposed to know. If her father could murder someone in cold blood, then what would he do to her if he found out? There were times when he would drink, he would get angry, and lash out. What would happen to her if that man showed up crossing the little red bridge into their grounds? She would never find out as she made a run for it past the koi pond, and onto the path to the city. It would become a distant memory, with more exposure to criminal activities throughout the years.
By secondary school, most people knew who Andromeda Hirose was. The Daughter of Tsuki, or Moon. This was the underground moniker her father took, as it was said the Hirose Family had a special connection with Tsukiyomi, the God of the Moon. They knew who her father was, and not to get involved with her unless they dared.

There were latent signs of oddities within Andromeda, but since they were unimpressive, her father ignored them, until he couldn't ignore them anymore. It wasn't until she put the entire vicinity asleep by sweating unstable lunar dust that he knew. There was a reason the Hirose Family worshipped their God; they were his chosen, centuries ago, for they were not a mortal family. The Hirose was originally from the Moon, he told her. And then, they came to Japan when they found it was no longer to their liking. He questioned if she was one of them, as she had a weak celestial aura then. Suddenly, it expanded and started beating strong. With tensions rising within the Yamaguchi-Gumi (the largest, most prominent yakuza organization) a civil war was about to break lose with brother against brother, her father knew he had to send her far from Japan before his brother found out about her blossoming abilities, knowing he would stop at nothing to maintain his rank as the boss.
He clearly wanted to protect her, while also protecting his place in the mafia. Again, he chooses them over family and sends her away to Nightshade Academy. It was the most logical course of action, he said. It was his alma mater—she always thought it was Yale. The school acted as a safe haven for people like them, those who had magical backgrounds. Located in Ireland, it is the least suspicious place to send her. Andromeda said goodbye to her friends, packed her bags, and prepared to say hello to another life.

Adrian doesn't like to stand out which is pretty hard when you stand at staggering six feet, three inches of mostly muscle. To counteract his blessed genetics his style is focused around darker colors like blacks and grays to give him a semblance of a low profile. His father's lucky watch is the only piece of jewelry he allows himself to wear. His style is devil may care. As long as he can move around in it he doesn't care what he wears. Shorts, jean's, joggers as long as he is unhindered he doesn't care.

Born to Marina and Adrian Jamieson, Aj spent most of his life believing himself ordinary. He wanted for nothing as his household was financially stable from the restaurant his parents ran in downtown Chicago. Despite that his parents had always drilled into him the value of working hard to earn your keep.
To Adrian they couldn't have been more like night in day. His mother was bubbly, personal, always with a faint smile on her lips as if she was in on a joke that everyone else wasn't. His father in contrast was stern but fair, closed off, and his eyes seemed to hint at a past that he'd rather not discuss. Adrian had only ever seen the man's glare soften whenever he looked at Marina.
Adrian had never experienced any great hardships until his 14th birthday. His parents were supposed to take him to a White Sox game after school but they never arrived. The only solace he found is that they didn't suffer. The coroner told him they died on impact. For Adrian everything was a whirlwind. He didn't even remember how many forms he had to sign or how many lawyers he had to meet with. It all sort of blended together at a point. All he remembered really was how much he wanted to be left alone.
It wasn't until the wake when he was pulled aside and introduced to his mother's side of the family did he feel some semblance of normalcy return. That is until he was informed that he was now the heir to Spain's most influential coven. His mother in a fit of rebellion had chosen to elope with a regular human rather than marry the suitor her father had picked out for her and in that rebellion Adrian was born.

For the next three years he was trained by his grandfather, Luis Gloriana in the art of spellcraft and what was expected of someone of his position. Adrian took to it instantly. He found joy in being valued and given something to take his mind off the losses he experienced.
His grandfather was harsh and demanding. Pushing him beyond his limits to make up for the lost time. Drawing more and more of his latent ability out as he trained morning to night until he couldn't anymore. He studied magical history until he couldn't anymore. Everything in the pursuit of his real goal since he discovered that magic existed. To bring back his parents.

Once Luis was satisfied with Adrian's progress he enrolled him in the school where their family made their name at. Expectations are high for him to make up for the disappointment and disaster his mother brought the family years ago.
Now surround by scores of magical knowledge he's one step closer to his dream of resurrecting his parents.
A lot of the light he had when he was younger has been burned out of him. Most by tragedy. Some by responsibility and replaced by cold steel tempered by fire.
Adrian can come across as a bit closed off. He doesn't really like to speak so he allows his actions to speak for him. Not because he's aloof but rather because he's socially awkward and doesn't want to say the wrong thing by accident.
A lot like his father he doesn't really like to overshare. Most people are under the "need to know '' rule when it comes to his personal life outside of Nightshade. Despite his newly found heritage Adrian believes in earning his keep and not getting by resting on his laurels. He'd rather fail on his own than succeed because of who he is related to.
The one thing his grandfather hadn't burned out of him that he kept from his parents is his strong sense of morality. Above all he values loyalty and kindness and will reciprocate if he feels like it's earned. He is not vocal about many things except in the defense of people he values.

To many, Junior year had a drought of poachable homework and easy “dibs” for project partners. Since the source has returned—and a quiet return it was—numerous numerous professors have begun shifting their bell curves.
Mornings with Machelle are grand time-crunches. She’s shouting friendly conversation at the cooks and janitors while setting up breakfast tables; bouncing from room to room to checks up on Nightshade’s hundred-plus clubs; and managing a locust swarm of underclassman asking for help both scholastic and personal. Presumably near the top of Nightshade’s rickety social ladder, she’s a standout example of diligence and self-sacrifice; though in her mind it’s simply part of the everyday hustle.
Rarely does any of this seem to dim her down emotionally. When it does, the professional vices of problem-dumping on a good friend or a night out clubbing with the company of hard drugs seem to be enough of a refresher to carry her through the week. She even spends her holidays flying back home to her parents, which is just short of a neon-sign saying ‘fuck your problems’ to a notable portion of the academy.
See, Chelle has long decided that her role in the world is to be the brightest lightbulb. It’s written all over her; always living, always laughing, always…helping. She hides the rare times physical exhaustion and overwork shows their ugly faces so no one feels too guilty—not to mention rather prickly she gets when others underestimate her limits while overestimating their own problems. Handcrafted ‘reminders’ of her existence she sends to dear friends make her seem more like a doting empty-nester than an ambitious go-getter. Occasionally, she’ll get distracted by someone she thinks could fulfill her fairy-tale image of romance, a strong and noble–or at least not douchey–knight who will live their lives with her. Unfortunately for the eager, to get to ‘third-base’ she’s needs half-a-dozen or so dates, to meet and impress your parents, and you must gift each other promise rings on the first anniversary.
With all this it’s easy to get the impression she’s attention-seeking—and yeah, of course she is—but a lot of this is just an odd manifestation of ambition and vague desire that she’s can’t seem to focus. She ended her law-firm apprenticeship during Freshman year to study under the council. More than wise enough to understand the conundrum of nepotism vs effort, that was later traded for tutoring the elite kids of freshly awakened Psyches. As far as everyone knows, that also ended when she left last year to understudy in some world-class restaurant back in Manhattan. But she’s back now, just as much of a busy-body as ever and still committed to being uncommitted to any long-term decisions. An undecided future isn’t even a very uncommon trait in Nightshade, but the fact that her conversation opener has always been “what’ve you been up to” makes her listlessness a bit less forgettable than most.
Outside of such ambitions, a lot of her behavior simply comes down to Mrs. and Mrs. Holloway. She’s ultimately seeking what she sees in her parents: a flawless relationship between two flawless ladies. She subconsciously understands there’s no such thing, but to be close enough to have made your only daughter actually think you were perfect as a little girl…there’s something truly magical about that she wants for herself.- first stage of lifeMachelle was raised in the old and homely apartment of the wonderful Jasmine and Tatiyana. The intensity of their expressions aside, the family was well-known for love and generosity without expectation. They were one of many who settled down in rent-controlled apartments while weathering the price-hikes that swept away their favorite shops and childhood friends. With an unspoken expectation for their daughter to be the same, Machelle looks back and laughs at the unsubtlety in exclusively buying her toys that required teamwork and an ownership-based color-coding system that somehow included yellow as the “sharing” color.
Unlike the neighbors, her moms’ aversion to complaining also meant a young Machelle never caught wind of the bitterness of their circumstances. As such, proximity to increasingly wealthy neighbors saw her developing a sense of longing, the difference in lifestyle clear as day.
She skipped the infamous phase of brattiness, never wanting to whine to her parents for anything with one-too-many numbers behind the decimal point. She’d slip on a second face of being unimpressed and ungrateful when others in response to the gloating or teasing of other girls. And with the inevitable come-around of questioning whether she had anything better, she shamelessly relied her dearest friend’s filthy wealth as a shield from judgement.
Current Machelle would say there’s little need to zoom-in on her pre-academy years. Nearly everyone from those days was too demanding or pretentious to keep in touch with, though her unfathomably rich friend is still a rare contact in her life. Of course, this likely isn’t true, she was valedictorian after all and something had to fill all that time she spent not needing to study.second stage of lifeNew York is a city you can disappear in. Machelle’s mother Tatiyana is amongst the giant cities’ lurking supernatural who hate this global advancement; but her wife kept her tethered to their social lifestyle in spite of it. As the remaining members of their community passed away or gave up on the dream to die old in their birth-borough, the family began to prepare for change.
The first contact with the council in three decades was initiated by Tatiyana. Her long absence, and the daughter she’d had since, came out of nowhere. Machelle is honestly still a bit blindsided by the decision, but as always, the couple were able to convince their daughter with their caring words—even including a surprisingly effective comparison to the Spy Kids phase she had as a child. One thing after another, and Machelle was on a flight to Nightshade.

Under a self-imposed rule to dress for circumstance, William treats the closet as means to an end. One of two fitted blazers have been the answer to all formal occasions within the last two years and a reversible denim jacket means he’s technically been wearing polar bears and mistletoes to every single class.
Natural selection and a lack of attachment—to objects at least—means he owns nothing that isn’t well-fitting and complementary to at least two other pieces. A stylish rain jacket two sizes too large is the only exception, believed to be enough to make onlookers question if he’s really as thin as he looks.

Another rule of William’s is to keep his more eye-catching accessories to his eyes only. This ranges from filling empty lobes and helixes with piercings to putting on a small set of gifted rings he would have never purchased on his own. The desire to avoid hearing another’s opinions is definitely an odd reason to try and memorize a roommate’s schedule, but mostly innocent nonetheless.
Like his ‘favored’ jacket, the only exception is borne of practicality. He has the constant but faint scent of vanilla or cedar-scented cologne, his best attempt at concealing a very pungent secret.

Stellification; patterning after the stars above him, William can transmutate objects into recognized constellations. This is a somewhat long and mathmatic process, requiring the copious amount of stardust that seep out of his joints at night to trace an accurately-scaled constellation on the object being transformed. The original object’s size determines the transformation, meaning a bed-sized Big Dipper would create a bed-sized spoon or scoop.
Celestial Vision; while in darkness or closing his eyes, William can see a reflection of the sky as if he were looking up from his current location at night.
Stellar Byproduct; the ‘stardust’ utilized for stellification is a faintly glowing and adhesive substance that William produces in copious amounts while awake at night. It seeps out of his knuckles, wrists, elbows, knees, and ankles and doesn’t seem to erode any faster than it takes sand to become dust. Common enough among Celestials to be researched, those familiar may recognize that the substance has a collection of minor useful properties, including William’s tendency to mix it with silver dust to use it like holdable ink.
drawbacksStellification; the placement of stars in the sky from his current position determine what William has access to, and in Ireland there are simply some constellations that will never be positioned correctly for use.
Objects marked with what would be living creatures only seem to transform when they’re appropriately sized—no human-sized scorpions—and what would be intelligent creatures end up with the knowledge and sapience of a house plant. Mythical creatures seem to be pale recreations, the hydra having the lethality of a few pythons rather than an immortal dragon.
Lastly, objects only stay transformed for as long as William could see the constellation from his current position at night. To keep something transformed over the course of a few days he would have to travel along with the constellation to keep it changed, meaning he especially values the small selection that are ever-present in the region.
Celestial Vision; this is obscured by light pollution, based on his current location without buildings or sunlight but not artificial light.
Curse of the Unsworn; William was scapegoated to receive a curse intended for another. A select few staff at Nightshade have been informed, and all who have attempted to break it were met with an unsettling amount of staying power and complexity. With the original verbiage of the curse known only by his mother Marcelle and the earth itself, William is only aware of it’s effects on him:
The most minor and mundane of the consequences, William constantly smells of dead insects. Though it can be masked, keen-nosed shifters have a tendency to detect it anyway. More than a few are rather touchy about the way it lingers in their noses.
He is also unable to lie or betray his word–or rather, suffers immediate retribution when he does. A burning sensation fills his mouth as a spider or centipede makes suddenly makes its way out. Their tendency to linger makes this an impossible thing to get accustomed to, occasionally having to brush them off his face.
Most influentially, William is bound to enforce any promises, oaths, deals, and contracts he witnesses being created. Whether the love-drunk musings of a summer fling or a clandestine meeting in an alley, it’s creation is embedded into his mind and he is made aware when it has been fulfilled by a butterfly arising from the ground. If he hasn’t actively worked towards fulfilling a binding by sunset he suffers centipedes and beetles flooding from his mouth, coming in waves that just barely allow him to rest his jaw and take a breath. Secondly, and more problematically, is when a binding is broken by a participant. In this case, he has a brief second to realize what happened before the effect begins and it only ceases while he is actively working to inflict retribution on the violator. Significant loss, emotional distress, and public humiliation all seem to be enough for anything that didn’t cause extreme and permanent harm to the betrayed; in which he suspects only death would suffice.
Unbeknownst to William, resolving every binding causes a flood of ants to swarm out from his mouth and spell out the instructions to breaking the curse. He’s actually done this a number of times over the years, but telling a lie or gaining another binding removes it from his memory and causes the earth itself to work to erase digital and written records of the solution.ailmentsDysphagia is responsible for William’s difficulty holding weight. His diet is heavily limited to foods that don’t risk triggering acid or complicate ingestion. In actuality, this is an early-onset symptom of a more specific condition that is likely to develop and worsen in old age.

Whether first intuited as bizarre or impressive, it quickly becomes clear you can’t catch William unoccupied. You did just glimpse him turning that corner, but his conversation with that teacher looks awfully important. Somehow he ended that conversation by tagging along with someone you’ve never seen him talk to. And now he’s mid-hop into a different car with a different person than the last time you tried to catch him on his way out the door. If you think it isn’t worth interrupting over, your best bet might be making an appointment.
For those closer to the inside of this whirlwind, everything seems a bit calmer. William’s willing to engage with anyone about anything, having such a callousness to his responses it’s hard to know if he understands the concept of severity. Positive interactions are easy to get out of him, and while his compliments are more like a spilled jar of honey than a hand-wrapped gift, he seems to particularly enjoy satisfying the wants of those who like hearing their own name. Even provocation seems to earn nothing more than sarcastic exaggeration, dramatically mocking an insult in an attempt to knock the wind out of the initiator’s sails.
Anyone who's seen him stumble—likely missing a reference or forgetting a promise—got to witness a rather strong display of humility, though shame may be more accurate. Small mistakes flush his face with red and send a panic to his eyes, and a string of excuses or apologies stop just short of fishing for reassurance. This reflex, along with subtle hostility against those who take active efforts in slowing him down, seem the only detractors from a consistently airy and careless demeanor.
Those who’ve delved deeper than casual acquaintances, or attempted to get there, found another layer of confusing contradiction. William seems to have endless justifications for suite of subtler behaviors: the hours of the day—sometimes days of the week—where he’s completely unreachable; the suite of ‘family friends’ who pick him up from campus, rarely the same person and never looking like they should have much of any business on compass; and why, ever so quietly, he just spread a rumor so cruel or started a grudge so unjustified it’s disrupted the life of someone for years to come. With how Toussiant’s pass down justifications for their actions like a Secular’s spellbook, it’s not even clear if any of this gives him any fear or guilt. Those who’ve figured out he’s at fault for something only to be frustratingly met with the same friendly carelessness as everyone else certainly don’t have reason to think so.
The realization of these behaviors, and a few others slightly more subtle, makes William’s invisible line of friendliness and genuine kindness as clear as glass. It’s been years since he stuck his neck out for another, and no one since seems to have figured out how to close the distance kept between himself and his peers; though it is simply possible not much outwardly changes when such a line is crossed.

If anything, the all too common purpose of having a child for the sake of legacy was completely lost on his mother Marcelle. Well whatever, at this stage of life he hasn’t the slightest idea of what any of that means, so let’s zoom in a bit.
William spent his childhood in the lively mountainside town of Avrieux. At first, his quietly purchased house lying vacant for weeks was enough to set the small town aflame with rumors. The eventual arrival of his mother—stone-faced and uninterested in hiding her wealth—and himself, always toddlering around a considerable distance away, did no favors in stopping them. Inside the house, these first impressions were only magnified. The walls stayed lined with priceless statement pieces never to be worn again and an unspoken rule of silence clouded the air. William eventually learned to expect nothing he didn’t directly ask for, up to and including the simplest of a reply while making one-sided conversation over dinner.
As the novelty of them being secret Italian spies or escaped spirits of the catacombs wore off, they instead stood out as the dimmest and most dour household. When compulsory schooling kicked in, all remaining mystery around William dispersed. He met the only other young children in town, a grand total of seventeen, and unknowingly stumbled into forming the close relationships that would define his next decade.
Thankfully, and perhaps surprisingly, early socialization came easy. There were some oddities that caused issues—including the odd mix of Parisian and a uniquely developed dialect of the countryside that makes his French distinct—but William’s reminiscing leaves out lonely evenings and the shame of relying on neighbors to focus on exciting treasure hunts that the whole town came together to create and being taught to sled by a friend’s older brother who treated him like one of their own.metamorphosisTeen years would bring two noteworthy changes to an otherwise static childhood. The lack of a nearby post-primary school would be William’s first reason to leave town. Following the majority to the larger of two options, the student population’s growth from twenty to ninety proved a strong influence over the next few years.
He would also break a lifelong record for time spent with his mother, now regularly swept away for formal dinners and prestigious house parties. The stress of change, met with being utterly blindsided on social decorum would be the cause of an otherwise unexpected spiral downwards. His plummeting grades and sleepless nights—while a catalyst for development of Celestial abilities—meant he’d begin to prefer his quiet home to the disappointed and pitiful looks of the people he’d known since birth. Especially because everything began to feel insulting. His closest friends would be met with insults supported by an entire life spent together. Others would find the same troubles that a present William inflicts on those trying to peer in. He eventually isolated himself in a room so clouded in distress and disorganization he felt himself suffocating on shame and despair…migrationWilliam really doesn’t like to think about the past. Sure, there’s probably something worth remembering about waking up beside his mother mid-flight and utterly unaware of the previous day. But can anyone blame him when he knows the sheer amount of potential bad there that could send him spiraling again. Plus, if he goes deep enough into the city he doesn’t even have to worry about the consequences of what he does to waste away the nights catching up to him.
All things considered, Nightshade feels like a pretty bright place. There’s something freeing about no one knowing anything more than the vaguest of details about how badly his early teens hit him. Who caaares if a few bridges are burnt having to manage some wacky curse; so long as another murder doesn’t force him back home for break, things can only go up from here.

A Seeker of knowledge that lies hidden in the fabric of the universe. Through pacts made with mysterious beings of supernatural power, Joaquin can unlock magical effects both subtle and spectacular. Drawing on the ancient knowledge of beings such as gods, demons, devils, hags, and alien entities in mystical dimensions tangential to our own, Joaquin pieces together arcane secrets to bolster his own power by invoking powers from the beyond.
This rare and unknown form of magic, known as 'Eldritch Magic' is magic in which spells and powers are granted from a powerful entity to a less powerful one. Despite the name, the source of the powers can be quite holy and beneficial, or the spells could theoretically be granted by a being who became very powerful through the use of arcane magicks. The power is granted to him, who then holds onto it until such a time as that power is released by the casting of a spell. Joaquin possesses a vast array of spells; his primary magical patrons are a group of entities known as "the Vahnih." The Vahnih are a trinity of godly beings comprised of Aga'thoh, Hoggoth, and Oshtur.
Other than his main patrons being the Vahnih, Joaquin's powers typically come from one of the following sources: the Octessence (a group of eight beings, consisting of Balthakk, Crytorryk, Farallah, Ikonn, Krakkan, Raggadorr, Valtorr, and Watoomb) and other beings who owe him a debt (this includes Satannish and even Chernabog). However, certain abilities of his stem from more obscure sources, such as the Faltine, the Seraphim, Cinnibus, Sheol, Ikthalon, Denak, Cyndriarr, Munnopor, Morpheus, Dyzakk, and others.

The wielder of the magic is unlikely to have control of what exactly they are granted and capable of doing - the one granting them the magic has an agenda of their own, and would not empower the wielder to move against it.
The outside constraints of eldritch magic placed on the wielder balance out the greater power and capabilities available through eldritch magic. The cooperative nature of the magic, however, will hinder anyone who tries to wield it without sharing a common goal with the one granting the power.
Prolonged use of Eldritch Magic can deplete and drain his very life force, which can bring forth undesirable effects that quickly become life-threatening. He may have migraines, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and other undesirable side effects as a result of overusing his power, including even passing out. And because of its abnormal nature, he avoids lengthy battles and if he does get in one, he tries to end it before his magic ends him.

personalityJoaquín gives an impression to all who meet him of total enigma and utter ominosity. Joaquín is something of a gruff and aloof sort of person when he's not with his immediate inner circle of friends (Which is currently empty). He doesn't tend to be outgoing and often seems to be wearing a frown, which doesn't help open conversations with strangers. He tends to cherish his privacy and doesn't appreciate people poking their noses into his personal life.
Joaquín also exhibits confidence; but, unlike most individuals, he displays it through his actions rather than through speaking or interacting with others. He doesn't feel the need to tell people how confident he is or to show it in any other manner and despite this, he wears this aura of assertiveness that shouts "Don't fuck with me". Going hand in hand with his confident persona is the fact that Joaquín's a very proud individual. He doesn't like to admit that even he needs help sometimes, especially since he's been alone his entire life and made it through a helluva lot without assistance. His pride is what gets him into trouble quite often and it's not until things are dreadfully in danger of going bad does he break down and gets the help that he needs.
He is also a very calm, determined individual when he wants something. He's not the type to explode into histrionics, or ever really let anyone get a good bead on how he's feeling -- stiff upper lip and all that. He can be stubborn, but only when he knows he's right, and frankly, he knows he's right 100 of the time. All the same, he's not the type to be goaded into a fight, what with cooler heads prevailing and all. Backstory:
Where to begin? The gemini star sign? Pollux? The Ever-changing Moon? A child born into the ancient and powerful Evernight Family, under the light of a full moon, should be destined for greatness...but Elodin isn't sure he's ever believed that.
Born into a family of dark witches and wizards, Elodin is ashamed of his family’s dark past and tries to distance himself as much as he can from it. His family line is ancient, tracing back nearly a thousand years and well before The Trials, possibly being a catalyst of The Trials themselves. Ever since their founding, members of the Evernight family have loved to indulge in the dark arts; from mastering ancient secrets better left alone to torturing mortals for fun. In the hundreds of years before the trial, the Evernight family built up a great deal of wealth and infamy due to their powerful black magic, eventually becoming a giant target for the catholic church and their witch hunters.
Though they tried to fight, the Evernight family found their numbers diminishing greatly and knew their time may be running short. In a desperate and vile move, the Evernight family turned against their magic users and began setting traps and exchanging secrets with the catholic church in exchange for freedom. As The Trials exterminated more and more magic users, the Evernights slowly gained power and wealth by betraying their own kind and often stealing the land of those burned at the stake.
The Evernight family has had some famous atrocities performed, scorned by mortals and magic users alike. Elodin’s great-grandfather, for whom he is named after, was well known for his terrifying experiments on magic users and mortals in an effort to chase immortality. When Elodin was born under the light of the Full Moon, he was given his great-grandfather’s name and was proclaimed to be the next great Evernight magician…
But they were soon to be disappointed.
Besides appearance, Elodin was nothing like the former patriarch of the family. Unlike his powerful Great-Grandfather, Elodin did not share the family's aptitude for dark magic, and while he could perform basic spells he was soon scorned by his family. Sure, they tried the normal things a family might do to get a child to excel: Torture, dark rituals, attempted curses, beatings, ect. Unfortunately for the Evernight family, Elodin's childhood only served to further his disgust of the dark arts, and while the rest of his family were busy with their own magical prowress, Elodin practiced his own in secret. In his ancient family castle, Elodin's curiosity blossomed as he explored every nook and cranny of his enormous home. Locks gave way to his fingers, and secret passages revealed themselves to Elodin as he solved the puzzles and riddles of the Evernight castle. He was fearless, believing that his family’s torture would surpass any sort of pain he would encounter on his travels. He would sit on the roof of the tower and stare into the starry sky for hours, enjoying visions of galaxies uncounted. Oftentimes these visions would follow him into his dreams, and Elodin would spend his sleeping hours flying through the stars and tapping into celestial secrets…
In his dreams he would chase down the brightest stars and the farthest galaxies, but he would always return to see the moon's beautiful face. He felt his attunement to the star "Pollux", symbolizing immortality of the star sign he was born under. His own birthday was the same back to front, and he felt his attunement with the cosmos the strongest on nights with the Full Moon. He would always wonder where the moon went when it wasn't in our sky, but could never find the answer; though he retained what he believed to be an irrational fear of a moonless night.
It was on his thirteenth birthday that he discovered the answer to the question that had been nagging at him ever since he was a child. Quite by accident, he opened a small portal to what he somehow knew to be the Lunarsphere. He couldn't maintain this portal for long, but within he saw new mysteries and secrets he knew he had to unlock. Over the next year he learned to open bigger and better portals, all in secret, and became more and more attuned to this new Lunarsphere. He found when the Moon was full his ability to draw power from the Lunarsphere and the stars within strengthened, yet in the blackest night he found the Lunarsphere to be a frightening place. He learned the hard way the dangers of trying to enter this realm on a moonless night; a scar was left that has never healed properly.
He was admitted to Nightshade and eventually entered the school with the full endorsement of his family (they had not accepted him, but they could not allow the public embarrassment of having their son not follow the path of the dozens of other Evernights). Each year he unlocked more and more secrets and advanced his abilities to draw upon the Lunarsphere. Though he draws power primarily from Pollux, the star he was born under, the ever-changing moon still amplifies or reduces his powers.
Magic:
Lunarsphere Portal: Effectively blinking, Elodin can quickly enter and exit the Lunarsphere between two different points a short distance away. He uses this to get through locked doors, climb trees or small walls, or escape danger (though he can't move too far away).Distance grows and shortens by the ever-changing moon. The more full the moon is, the farther away he can move. Moonless nights only have a few feet of blink capability
Detect Magic/Life:
Elodin can draw power from the Lunarsphere to detect life and magic in a radius around him. Radius increases and decreases with the size of the moon
Ever Changing Moon: Passive
All of Elodin's Magic is tied to the waxing and waning of the moon. The brighter and fuller the moon is in our sky, the more powerful his magic is. On moonless nights he is near mortal and can perform only the simplest of spells.

She doesn't pay a lot of attention to what she wears or how she looks. Her style is minimalistic and functional; Whatever gets her out the door the quickest while still appearing put together.
PERSONALITY
Around most, James is quiet and will keep mostly to herself. She possesses immense mental fortitude and will go after her own aspirations without hesitation. Intelligent, hardworking, and determined, James always strives for perfection and success. These traits combined together meant that she consistently excelled in her youth before arriving at Nightshade. While generally soft-spoken, James is unafraid to speak her opinion when she feels it is needed.
Endlessly curious, James wants to learn everything about everything. Her curiosity gets the better of her sometimes as she has a tendency to become hyperfocused on whatever catches her attention and will ignore everything else around her including potential dangers. A planner by nature, she doesn’t like it when things don’t go her way. The high expectations James holds for herself are particularly evident after becoming a student at Nightshade Academy and meeting Elodin Evernight. The constant need to prove her worth and outrank Elodin has been both a source of motivation and stress for her.
In environments she's comfortable in, James flourishes and almost becomes a completely different person. She’s animated, witty, and quick to laughter. Only few has seen this side of her.

- BACKGROUNDHISTORY
There isn’t much to say about James, the girl who grew up in New York to two professors who adopted her at birth. She passed a life of mundanity, unaware that magic existed in the world they lived in. While she adored reading fairy tales and fantasy books, she never thought of them to be much more than works of fiction. That was until a man came knocking on her door one day with an intriguing proposal.
James’ life completely changed after that visit. One moment she was charting a path that would get her to Harvard and the next she was on a plane to Pinewoods, Ireland where she would spend the next four years as a student at Nightshade Academy learning about magic.
Everything was new and exciting and it made her blood sing hymns of joy. Unfortunately, her new adventure quickly hit a hiccup in the form of another freshman celestial by the name of Elodin Everlight. It was hard to explain why they found it so hard to get along despite sharing so many similarities. Elodin came from a family of prominent magi (so she heard), and she assumed had trained privately from his opulent palace hidden somewhere in the mountains since he was a child. On the other hand, having to start from nothing, James worked three times as hard as everyone else if only to prove that she deserved a spot at the school only for teachers to sometimes dismiss her effort in favor of Yes, that’s very good, James… and now, Elodin, how about you try?
MAGIC
Prismatic Sphere - A shimmering, multi-colored plane of light forms a 30ft sphere centered around James. The sphere has the ability to deflect magical attacks back at the caster as well as hold back non-human beings. The sphere works two ways, as magic is unable to enter the sphere, magic also cannot leave it. While immune to magic, physical attacks can pass through as if the sphere does not exist. Depending on Castor’s position in the sky, James is able to keep the sphere up between 1 to 12 minutes.
Duplicity – James is able to create a perfect illusion of herself that stays up so long as she is conscious. The illusion is intangible except when conjured during the time when Gemini is visibly present in the night sky. During this time, her duplicate takes on a more tangible form although it is still limited in the ways it can interact with the real world.
True North – Even as a child, James never had any issues with navigating her surroundings. Her parents attributed this to an uncannily perfect sense of direction although there may be more to it than that. She always seems to know where she is going and never falters even when thrown into an unknown location.
