Coming In Hot
Her hands met behind her back, holding one another, seeking comfort in each other. Her upper back pressed against the closed bleachers as she stood on her heels, which were slid half a foot away from the wall.

Silver eyes scanned the gym-now-dance floor. They reflected the blue and purple lights like a mirror.

Other kids were happy to be here. They were chattering and dancing away, having about as good a time as they could.

Yong-Yut, in contrast, was having about as bad of a time as possible.

For one, she was just awkwardly standing alone. No one she knew had acknowledged her, especially not the girl Yong-Yut had broken up with just the week before, who Yong-Yut had been staring down from the spot she stood at. She thought they’d broken up amicably— but apparently the girl thought otherwise.

Secondly, the music and voices were loud; so loud, in fact, that Yong-Yut could barely hear her own thoughts. That, combined with the multicolored lights shining above the crowd, made for an overstimulating experience.

Thirdly, Yong-Yut didn’t even want to be here in the first place. This year, just like every year before it, Yong-Yut was made to come here by her mother.

At least she got a cute outfit out of it.

Her hands pulled away from each other to meet in front of her, grabbing onto her bow-tie and tugging to adjust it.

The girl she was staring at had finally noticed, making eye contact with her across the gym. Yong-Yut flinched, looking away.

Her eyes found a new target: the unmistakable red hair that was still remarkably bright despite the contrasting lights overhead.

Menace. What was he doing here?

Oh, right. School dance.

With a low hum, or maybe groan, her eyes shifted away. Out of all the people she knew, he was definitely low on the list of who she wanted to notice her.

Yong-Yut slowly turned around to face the bleachers. Her head tapped against them. Her eyes closed shut.

She was already getting a migraine…

“I know. I don’t think I’m old… At least, I know I’m not old. But when you’ve got someone around your age complaining about it all the time, it gets to you… you know?” She rubbed her neck. “I just feel so stagnant.”

“It’s like… I don’t want anything… Maybe that’s the problem. I haven’t wanted anything at all. At least not long-term. I don’t have any goals. No ambitions. Shoot for the stars, you know, but I’d rather just look at them. The stars are so beautiful, Hector, and it’s fun to watch the other people launch fireworks at them. But I’m getting tired just watching.

There’s just no star I want to shoot for, no fireworks I have to launch. Right?”

She exhaled. Her eyes hadn’t left the window, their silver color reflecting the streetlights outside.

“Sorry. Tangent.” They looked to him. “I don’t have any problems with the Phoenixes. Not right now, at least. Hopefully not anytime soon.” Hum. “Yeah, no. I’m fine.”

Pairs of eyes all stared at the intruder from surprise, eight in total, considering they had not expected anyone else to be in this more isolated part of town. But there was also annoyance in their eyes, given that an annoying gnat had intruded upon their hunt. "...who the FUCK is this guy?" one of the goons said with a snort, "Who the FUCK are you pal to waltz in here!?"

The Ringleader was wholly unamused as he cocked an eyebrow to the youth: "Didn't say you could bring friends into our little discussion, runt." he said with a grunt.

Daigo, however, was even more pissed off that this asshole - who moments earlier was fully intent on tackling him in the middle of the street - was now coming to his rescue. Gritting his teeth he darted his gaze towards Charlie and glared: "I don't need your fucking he-" he spat out, before receiving a kick to the stomach from the bat wielding goon that had incapacitated him earlier. Daigo spat out more saliva as he coughed some more from the new blow, while the goons nearby chuckled.

"Oho, hear that boss? He doesn't need help!" the man with the awful mohawk spoke before snarling to Charlie, "So BUZZ OFF."

"Nah. This ain't the kind of person who just walks away. I can tell." the Ringleader then spoke, crossing his arms. His narrow, dark eyes studied Charlie's presence before coming to a conclusion. "Why the hell are you risking your neck out for this trash? Bet he stole something from you too, given you followed him while he was dashing away like a madman. If anything, you should be thanking us for stopping a thief." He then let out a chuckle as smooth as granite before rubbing the back of his own bald head. "Tell you what. Walk away now, and the only person getting hurt is the one that actually deserves it here."

Daigo groaned as he tried to prop himself up with his hands and knees, only to receive a kick to the face from another goon that sent him down to the wet asphalt again. The pain blurred his vision as blood filled the gaps between his teeth. It was as familiar a flavor as root beer was, having tasted it many times before. Such was life out here. But why did this blue-haired guy care? This didn't make any sense. Why would he go out of his way despite everything? Adults only ever cared about themselves. And they all wanted to hurt him and those he cared about. Especially now, as he anticipated a metal pipe to the face in the near future.

Just fucking leave. Daigo thought to himself, grinding his teeth together in frustration as he anticipated the inevitable.

Yong-Yut was not aware of the debacle Charlie was having in his mind. She simply watched the buildings go by. It was nice going through a familiar place at such a slow pace.

Speaking of pace, she had taken her motorcycle to HQ… she was going to have to walk back to grab it after dinner…

“Hm.

Hm?”
He bumbled about his words, earning a confused expression from Yong-Yut. “Wha— Oh.” He’d already skipped ahead, pulling the door open. She nodded a ‘thank you’ to him as she stepped through.

For this time of night, Cuisinaire’s was uncharacteristically filled with people. So filled with people that, when her eyes trailed to her favorite table she always sat at whenever she came here, she found that some family had taken their seats.

Almost visibly, she deflated.

She turned to Charlie. “Wherever you want to sit…” she gestured towards the floor. Another gesture towards the counter followed. “But, we should… probably order, first.”

Khydnah accepted the concrete Lucky Cat with a subtle nod, her eyes briefly studying the transformation of the makeshift statue. She held it delicately, her long, sharp nails contrasting with the smooth surface of the figure.

Following Rolos towards the West District, the smaller Khyn moved with a sinuous grace, their forms shifting and adapting to the environment. As Rolos mended the cracked ground beneath his steps, Khydnah observed the subtle display of his abilities, her curiosity piqued.

"̶Y̷o̴u̷r̷ ̷t̵a̸l̸e̶n̸t̵s̶ ̸a̶r̵e̸ ̷i̸n̸t̵r̴i̶g̶u̵i̵n̶g̸,̵ ̸R̷o̸l̴o̵s̷,̵"̸ she commented, her gaze flickering between him and the smaller Khyn. The West District loomed ahead, a canvas waiting to be transformed. Khydnah's mysterious aura seemed to intensify as they approached their first target, and the smaller Khyn, sensing the upcoming task, followed behind her in silent anticipation.

He smiled with a casual ease. "I always enjoy the opportunity to collab." He walked up to a rather suitable wall in the West District, clean and pristine. "Are you and the little guy gonna need a lift up there? I can always lift myself up, easily." His eyes moved between looking at Khydnah for an answer and looking back at the wall. If she could see his eyes, she'd see them darting around, examining his canvas. How large? How small? Would it be simply a message? No, nothing so simple. And with every flick of his eyes over the wall, Khydnah could see the ground under his feet shift like a kaleidoscope in anticipation, like an ocean starting to experience a storm.

Those in the River
A short chirp accompanied the door swinging open. Cute and melodious, she used to describe it with a laugh. An attempted theft later inscribed the bell at the door with a different meaning.

Dyne swept her gaze across the empty bar and her shoulders loosened. Their meetings would be private. Her good humor and smile blossomed at the cheery greeting of Peyton, exuberant with colors as he always was.

"A pleasure to meet you again, darling. You look dazzling tonight, as always."
And it was not a lie. Peyton exuded youthful charms with his persistent chipper and bright face. His uniform framed his appeal further; he would not stand conspicuous in the line up of Neverland or the end workers of Eternal Night Palace.

Dyne folded her legs over a stool, her elbow rested on the shiny counter and pulled the puffy jacket sleeve back. The surface was not sticky, she realized. Her lips curled up playful. "Why not serve me your best, then? It's a relief to see you doing well after you left."

Traitors were not well looked upon, wherever they were. Someone like Peyton who had turned twice, she could describe not with words. Be it the cameraderie of Serpents or its nature that was as wild as a forest, Peyton should not be doing so badly if he could access the Serpent's exclusive weapons. Still...

"If it's not too much trouble, darling, can I ask why you left?"
Her soft gaze fell on the counter. She saw no invisible stains.

Many were indignant at his departure, but not Dyne. In the right circumstances, she knew she would abandon the Dragons, too.

Now, she only wanted to know why someone like Peyton, someone bright as the sun would return here.

A Joker's Paragon!

East was a paradise compared to North, but even it had its flaws. Better to deal with the average idiot thinking they could either fly under the radar or oust the dragons from their throne than fear the boogymen who would come to kill you in your sleep for a quick rush of adrenaline. It was only even easier now that he was a dragon and thus could deal with knocking down or ripping out any of the weeds among the east.

But what was he supposed to do when it was an actual child?

He’d heard rumors about a vigilante causing a stir-up in the east and assumed it was some overzealous new dragon. More than come to deal with it he just wanted the lowdown on whether this would be an issue or not. He almost wished it hadn’t been as interesting as he’d found it. Was he supposed to report this? Part of him felt wrong if he brought attention to it.

Actually, it may be worse that he was just tailing the kid. Time to do social niceties. Ugh, how did you talk to Chunni preteens?

Well, he had about six seconds to figure it out.

“Hey kid! What do you think you’re doing? Playing vigilante is dangerous, go home.”

Okay, that was probably a bit too blunt.

Whoops.

BACK IN THE GAME
Milo took a deep breath. He tried to feel the comfort in Hitoshi's words, the squeeze of his hand on his shoulder. No, he thought. That wouldn't be enough. The only absolution he'd accept was the safe return of Elizabeth. There was no other course. He would not allow there to be. It was time to be a hero.

To Charlie, Milo said only, "... Right!" and nodded. There was no time to mince words. Hitoshi had given him a direction, and a chance at redemption. Milo wouldn't let another second go to waste, wouldn't let a grain of sand slip through his fingers.

As Hitoshi and Charlie both sped off in their chosen directions, Milo's feet stayed firmly planted. He fished around the small of his back, searching for the familiar spine of his sketchbook kept tucked in the waistband of his trouser pants. Falling to his knees, he slammed the book to the ground, threw open the pad to a blank page. He held a sharpened graphite pencil in his hand, tip hovering over expectant parchment.

Milo stared at the empty void. His mind raced. Visions rushed past. Charlie, Hitoshi. His comrades. The spectre of a red bird taking flight. Elizabeth. Her frowning face. The smile in her eyes as she watched the animals she loved. All of this... He would use it. This inspiration.

A tooth. A claw.

His pencil flew across the page. Fur. Fangs.

He would use it all. Large. No, larger.

Use it, Milo..!

A sound like thunder rumbled down the cobbled path. A woman turned towards it and shrieked. Pedestrians dove out of the way as the massive Kaibal Tiger loped past. The careful observer would've noticed a boy with silver-blond hair flattened against the mane of its back, fingers interlaced with coarse, lustrous fur of its coat, golden eyes narrowed with focus on a single point in the distance: forward.

Boy and beast skidded to a halt as they arrived at the North Exit of the Zoo. Milo sat up, swung his leg over the side of the great beast and slid down, sneakers hitting pavement. He called in to the comms that the Phoenixes shared as he looked around.

"I'm here." He waited for a response as his hand idly scratched the chin of the massive, docile tiger as it rested back on its haunches, huge tongue lolling lazily out of its many-toothed maw. Its eyes blinked, leaning in to the touch.

Unlike his new companion, Milo's eyes were peeled, on the lookout for anything suspicious.

A woman who carried around a giant sword in the middle of the city should be pretty used to the idea of shedding a bit of blood. This mission would be able to difinitively prove if she had the stomach to handle the worst of the underbelly of the dragons. Some people killed, some didn’t, and others still like himself and Llyod made it their mission to clean up the corruption by all means necessary.

As if he could truly say that.

An instinctual part of him itched to give Peyton a text, a plea to not be there, but no force in hell would make him give information out he knew would get back to the serpents. He shook it off listening more to the mission details.

“Keep in mind that while they may use each other like an endless supply of disposable pawns they usually aren’t entirely stupid. I wouldn’t let your guard down they come in fucking hoards trying to win with pure numbers because they have the north on lock to get the bodies they need. Serpent or die or Serpent and die is they way they opperate there. The smart ones get the fuck out of dodge.”

It wasn’t something he went around advertising usually but the fact that he grew up and knew how the north rolled had given him an advantage before. If it’d help her out with taking it as a threat then he’d gladly leave the hints.

“The second you relax because its routine is the day you don’t get to go home. Serpents are sadist fucks that will raid someone’s home and watch them turn their loved ones inside out before going on their merry way.”

He would have shrugged and kept walking if all that was offered was the empty rationale he’d more than been aware of. Yet he didn’t expect the hand on the shoulder and for the other to offer to train more often. Was that what his mentor was aiming for with all of this? He didn’t think it was just luck of the draw here, maybe coincidence that this time worked but with the congo line of setups he’d been put on he figured a goal had to be in mind.

“Yeah that sounds great.”

He took the opportunity to shake on it deciding he might as well accept the little quirks. When he let go he realized he didn’t quite know what to do next and went for throwing an arm around the other. He had to break the shell a bit, he couldn’t be the one always thrown for a loop here.

“You however really need to work up to being a little less direct. Your game face is terrifying dude.”

He felt a twinge of pain as he moved in a way that tugged at one of the muscle sprains he had gotten in the fight and let out a minuscule hiss under his breath. Okay, that decided it for sure. He straightened himself out and looked around before deciding he had nothing better to do after this.

“I could use a fucking drink. You down? Don’t tell me you’re not a drinker either ‘cause there’s plenty of nonalcoholic stuff.”

Something Costing An Arm & A Leg Is Pretty Cheap Compared To Something That Costs Both Your Buttcheeks

Shouting was normal when people were selling their souls to the devil called gambling.

But it was still annoying as fuck.

Realistically they had bouncers. In practice she had to clean up after more people than she ever wanted to, and this is why she did her own rings instead of being an established member when she first made her way here. She started to approach the dealer who had the misfortune of dealing with it today to get the lowdown.

Yeah, today was going to be shit. The yell that flooded the floor made her wish she could take personal days but laziness didn’t pay rent and she already had to use her off days for Cam missions. She began to stomp over to the fool that was making her already exhausting job worse.

Oh no, he was pitiful.

She caught the smallest hint of the voice as she approached used to listening under the din of the casino floor for idiots dumb enough to telegraph their cheating.

It's a good thing this place hardened her heart to fools.

“Sir, you may want to take it easy with the shouting we do have Tigers for bouncers here and they will not hesitate to remove you if you continue to look like you may take drastic measures.”

Fuck me, this music is loud.

The young man took one last swig from the flask he had snuck in– filled to the brim with samples from every bottle his parents had lying around at the bar (wouldn’t want to get caught stealing and drinking alcohol at 16, right?), before twisting the cap onto it and sliding it into the back pocket of his suit pants.

Vulken was now alone at the Dance. His group of friends had all dipped off to try and woo their little crushes into slow dances– not before siphoning as much liquor as they could get into their cups of punch. He thought tonight would be simple; get wasted with the boys, kick some guys asses, get sent home, and pick up some chicks on the way out. But it seemed that his merry gang of buddies had other plans for the night. Hell, even Mika was out there trying to get lucky with Celine Massey from Chem. Dicks.

Oh, well. Nothing he could do about it now, right? He leaned on a nearby wall, pushing his hands into his pockets with a buzzed smirk plastered onto his face.

Heh, I’ll just wait for Mika ‘ta get rejected. Fucker’ll come crawlin’ back ‘ta me in no time.

He laughed to himself, closing his eyes briefly to imagine the disheartened look on his fellow Phoenix’s face. However, when he opened them, his amused expression quickly turned into an annoyed scowl. Mika’s hands were around Celine’s waist, and he was spam-winking at Vulken from a distance with a complimentary shit-eating grin.

Dick.

He wished Kanna could come. She wouldn’t have run off to dance with some schmuck.

Just as Vulken turned around to exit the gym and pull from the stash of cigarettes he had hidden in his locker, his citrus eyes caught a glimpse of a familiar, plain head of brown hair. Finally, a friend who was just as lonely and bored as he was!

He zipped over to Yong-Yut in a flash, tapping her on the shoulder in hopes of getting her attention from… whatever she was doing at the bleachers. Weird.

Yo!” He greeted her with a small wave, eyes scanning the girl up and down. “I fuck with the outfit, man. Y’got this… sailor… chef thing goin’ on. With the sparkles. It’s sick.

Of course, the young Phoenix didn’t realize how stupid he was being in the moment. He flashed her a smile before opening his mouth once again.

S’a cool style, girl… You good? ‘Yer like, standin’ here doin’ nothin’ – Oh, shit. I know!

Without giving her a second to respond, his arm reached behind him and revealed his silver flask. Despite being heavily taxed, it still had a decent amount left inside of it. He held it out to her as an offering.

Wanna drink? I call it ‘The Beckman Jungle Juice’. Sounds shitty, but if ya get some punch and mix it in, s’actually pretty good. My boys can vouch.

The more Jackson speaks of how terrible the Serpents truly are, the more hate wells up inside Lloyd. The leather of the steering wheel can be heard being squeezed tightly in his grip. "Serpents are a goddamn pest, trying to infect everything with their disease. One day they will be exterminated, and I will be damn sure it is in my life time. And when I get my hands on the ones at the center of it all, I will rip out their heart and make them watch me drink their blood from it while it is still beating!" The more Lloyd speaks, the intenser his anger gets. On top of that, his Potential begins to activate. Not only does his armour begin to grow all over his body, he is starting to increase in size too.

He notices this after a few moments and takes a few deep breaths, halting any further growth. Now returning to a calmer tone of voice, he says,
"Anyway, let's get on with it. Serpents don't kill themselves, with some exceptions, I think." Lloyd then gets out of the car and closes the door. The moment he stands on his feet, he grumbles. "Damn it. The only thing I cannot really appropriate to my physical growth is my shoes." Quickly he takes off his shoes, leaving him bare foot, and goes to the back of the car to deposite his shoes in the trunk. He first takes out Jackson's weapon, though, and hands it to him before putting his shoes inside and closing the trunk again.

"Alright, as I usually do when it is just me and Jackson, I'll be taking point. Then he turns his attention to Yona specifically, "Yona, since we don't know your Potential and fighting capabilities yet, I want you to remain behind me at first, so I can take the brunt of any attacks. I'll draw their attention, and once you see an opening or Jackson has dibilitated the lot of them, show us what you got. Lloyd was glad Jackson agreed to train together more. He is certain he could learn a lot with him, and perhaps have a good partnership. Having worked mostly alone has been quite limiting. But he believes Jackson and himself could work great together. Then an arms gets thrown around him once again, and he basically gets told he needs to loosen up. He sighs and says, "You're not the first one telling me that, and I cannot deny it is true."

Lloyd stops for a moment when Jackson straightens himself up a bit and looks around. Lloyd was a bit confused what he was looking for, so he started looking around himself until he got offered to go get a drink, with the note to not come with the standard excuse. Lloyd laughs a bit before saying, "Well, I am indeed not much of a drinker when it comes to alcohol. Mainly because I usually have to drive afterwards. But, as you said, plenty of non-alcoholic options. I don't really know any good places, though, so you will have to take the lead on that one."

Yona listened to the two's impressions of the Serpents gang and figured that they both had their fair share of dealings with them. Of course, she seemed to have her impressions as well. They don't seem to keep their subordinates on a tight leash and it doesn't seem like they communicate or figure things out well. She just kept thinking. This sewage tunnel has been cleaned out time and time again but they just keep coming back. Either they never knew one group was using this area for drug smuggling or they just never thought to put two and two together of a cleaned out hole and missing members.

Even if they did consider the thought of defectors, it didn't seem like they arrived at such a possibility. It'd be pretty suspicious if whoever was being sent here just all defected one day to never return each time they send in a team. Just what the Hell are these Serpents? She couldn't figure out their leadership tree or how things were ran there. It sort of boggled her mind a bit. Of course, she had to do away with such thoughts. She'd be the odd one in the group who were trying to figure them out and studying them inside and out while these two were gnashing their teeth at them looking for blood.

Once they got out of the car, she stretched a little so she can get ready for the mission. Closing the door behind her only for Lloyd to lock it immediately, she figured there's no going back now. She's in this shit. She immediately began scanning around the abandoned warehouse and her surroundings. She spotted a truck at the loading bay which seemed out of place for a desolate area such as this. She began scanning out her possible routes. She could hop on the truck and reach the skylight to get a drop on any unsuspecting bastards bellow. Perhaps she can get going now. She soon took one step---

"Yona, since we don't know your Potential and fighting capabilities yet, I want you to remain behind me at first, so I can take the brunt of any attacks..."

Upon hearing Lloyd give her an order, she snapped back into her reality and stopped abruptly halting herself from proceeding any further. It would've been noticeable. Right, they don't know her yet and here she is already getting into her old state of self. Looks like there's no "Lone Wolfing" it today. She'll have to kick back and let her seniors take charge. But it seems like if they give her an opening, she can cut herself loose and let her sword free.

"Understood?"

Yona only offered a nod as she went back into a relaxed standby state. "Understood." She said with the ulterior motive to let herself loose and show her seniors just who they're working with and why the Dragons took interest and sent the letter of invitation, even if it was "volun-told."

Oh, no. It was getting worse.

She could hear footsteps rapidly approaching her from behind. It was only a guess as to who it was, as she refused to turn around. That was, until—

He tapped her.

Her arm flinched, effectively punching the bleachers. If she hadn’t had natural durability, that probably would’ve hurt. Instead, it left a small, inconsequential crack in the plastic seats.

Slowly, she turned her head towards him.

Menace.

She kept her eyes on him. She studied him, just as he did her, just with a lot more displeasure about it. That displeasure turned to disgust as he held a flask out in front of her. Who did he think she was?

She shook her head.

Rather neutrally, actually. Despite her inner feelings, her face nearly neglected to change at all. The only noticeable switch in her expression was her eyes narrowing.

Turning around, she leaned her back against the bleachers again. Her eyes lowered down towards her outfit. She liked it, too, but considering the way he looked… she had half a mind to take it as an insult.

She reached over and grabbed his shirt, buttoning it up for him.

Better. At least, he didn’t look so much like a goblin. His hair didn’t do much to help, though.

Her eyes moved away from him and found themselves staring at the dance floor again. Not only was she looking for the girl again, she was also looking for Vulken’s friends. Didn’t he have anything better to do than bother her? What was everyone else…

Oh, right. Dancing.

She would’ve frowned. She didn’t, but she would’ve. Not only were the people she was hoping to come get her dancing, but all of this guy’s friends were, too.

That didn’t leave much room for escape, really.

She sighed, looking back up at Vulken.

Menace.

Charlie's gaze trailed through Yong-Yut's pointing arm, from her forearm to her hand and then to what was beyond...Except that there was nothing beyond. Was he perhaps not seeing things from the right angle? Because otherwise she was just pointing at the floor.

...The rookie giggled, surprised by his senior's little joke. Considering just how often she came across as serious and emotionless, it was refreshing to see Yong displaying an unexpected level of humor!

"The floor, huh? Well, maybe we could even get a spot on the roof if we ask nicely!" He responded playfully, and easygoing smile on his face as he nodded at her second remark. "Sure, let's go"

Heading over to the counter, the duo was welcomed by a youth currently in charge of taking the orders. Well, 'welcomed' was quite a bit of a stretch, as he simply turned around to face them, his expression brimming with the joy and vitality of a stressed college student neck-deep in debt. "Yeah?"

"Hi there!"
Uttered Charlie, contrasting the zombified state of the worker with his sunshine-like energy. "I'd like to order one portion of beef and ricotta lasagna, also a jar of lemonade, please!". With neither his expression or the orientation of his head changing at any moment, the young worker pulled out a small notepad, and began writing down the order. Charlie turned over to Yong-Yut for a second, taking a moment to recall their past conversation. "Oh, and a smoked turkey with no mayo, and serving of potato chips!" He puffed up his chest lightly, proud of his relatively okay memory. "They'll be ready in a moment" said the worker right after placing the noted paper on the small window connecting to the kitchen.

"We're good to take a seat now, I'll go get our orders when they're ready" Said Charlie as he stepped aside, letting Yong take the lead towards her ACTUAL desired seat.

The Guy Who Wrote “Art Is In The Eye Of The Beholder” Probably Did It On The Toilet

Tak’s sour mood only intensified as his eyes darted around the state. His hands were shoved in his pockets, his posture slouched as he leaned forward, his chin jutted ahead as his teeth ground within his mouth. The sounds of a koi pond with a miniature waterfall acted as ambiance; the well-kept plants of the courtyard filled the air with a pleasant aroma of spring, backed by a hint of fresh-cut grass.

“I should piss in those begonias he got…” Tak threatened under his breath, earning a worried glance from Kelsey, who motioned towards him with open hands and nervous sweat, “Please don’t,” he begged.

“Peh. When you see someone doin’ better than you, the only right thing is to knock ‘em down a peg! It’s just the Amestrian way!” Tak continued to play with the idea, glancing towards both of his fellow artists with a frown, “I’m surprised you starving artists aren’t with me. Ain’t you guys all about self-expression? Graffiti on public property and shitting on sidewalks and all that stuff.”

Kelsey was utterly bewildered by the scruffy man’s logic, and she could only respond with a deadpan stare. Before the conversation could degrade further, the sounds of the creaking open front doors brought their attention forward. Trisha and Rosetta held the doors open while Antonija stood in the middle, beckoning the men to follow her.

The bright lights of the entrance hall beckoned them in; just from outside, they could see the paintings that lined the walls, statues, and candelabras set upon countertops and drawers. The wooden walls were adorned with bandings of gold, and the strip of green carpet across the ground was decorated in patterns of flowers and vines.

As they entered together, the doors closed behind them as the light from outside faded from behind, leaving them to take the time to gander at their surroundings. Astute eyes would acknowledge what decorates the walls, in between pictures of real life, from what seemed to be simple things such as family members and childhood memories; it was patterned and weaved with art pieces. Some were more notable than others, but they all held the same author. From his older works to his more recent ones, they varied from style to interpretation, but most distinctly, they had a different feel from the generations.

“Wow. I had no idea he had done so much, and this is only a part of it,” Kelsey murmured under his breath as he absorbed each painting into his retinas.

Art such as this could only be enjoyed by someone who had an eye for it, so of course, one man wasn’t interested in indulging himself in the rich history. Instead, he fed his anger on the riches in front of him. His hands were clenched around a cabinet, and he knelt down to inspect it with furrowed brows, “What the hell?” he breathed out, his pupils visibly contracting in surprised frustration, “This thing is pure Cafrian Blackwood!” He spat out, quickly rising, “I had no clue artists were so rich…”

Tak had initially come here for his motives, but just now, the slightest hint of consideration of actually using this chance to learn a bit of a traditional skill was starting to itch at the back of his mind.

Such a thought was quickly diminished as he grabbed onto one of the metal knobs on the cabinet, his fingers clenched as veins protruded from his hand as he tried to pull it off, “He won’t even notice if I take a couple of these, right?!” He reasoned as he gave it a rough tug, causing the whole thing to rattle. “Please stop,” Antonija slid into view behind him, looking more unamused than usual as she reprimanded him.

ASQAURE.png
“Look at that…each of these rectangles. They all have it down perfectly,”
said a new voice, entering the scene and deviating from Tak’s usual idiocy. A man in a scarf and a blue kimono emerged, his hands brought together to form a frame with his fingers as he examined a painting on the wall.

Barker’s 1987 piece, “Leave, Guardian,” tested constructivism. It featured fusions of black and red and sharp edges that formed together to make the mangled expression of what seemed to be an angel.

“The golden ratio, 8 to 4 it’s only natural Barker would use them,” the man said, his arms falling to his chest. “Maybe I might be able to learn something here after all.”

“Kehiro-san!”
Tisha’s voice caused the scarred man to peer over, noticing the formed group. Two new faces joined the maids, and he raised a brow, turning to face them.

“Oh? These are the other guys here for understudy, huh?” He raised a hand to his chin, stroking it as he examined them. His eyes held a gleam, a sharpness that peered through the surface, far beyond the layers between paint and canvas.

Kelsey visibly shrunk, apprehensive of the man’s gaze, while Tak looked back at him with an uncaring look.

Tisha broke the silence by gesturing towards the three of them, “Yep! These are the other 3 we were waiting on! Now all 5 of you are present!” she bubbled excitedly.

“Hooh. Took long enough. Maybe next time, you guys should be 6 hours early. Haha!” He joked with a grin before turning around and shuffling down the hall, his sandals shifting against the carpet.

“Six hours?” Tak blinked, putting his hands back into his pockets. “That guy must not have anything better going on in his life.”

Ironic statements coming from him.

Nevertheless, the group pushed forward, the doors at the end of the hall growing near; in that silence, Kelsey spoke up, turning to Tisha, “Um…so you said there’s five of us, right? There’s us three and that Kehiro guy…who’s the fifth?” He questioned. Tisha simply smiled knowingly, indicating a “You’ll see” non-answer. Nevertheless, he accepted, just nodding in response.

Finally, they reached the end of the hall, and once again, the maids pulled open the doors for them to walk on through. The ornate lights above illuminated the giant room, the various doors and stairways positioned around, showing the vastness of the estate.

In the middle of it all, standing on top of the polished floor, was the man who everyone could recognize. He had a cleft chin, a thick mustache, and even bushier brows. His face was enigmatic, always wearing a stern frown, like that of a well-esteemed chef. His skin had grown paler, and his figure had grown more sickly, but it was undeniably him:

What stood in front of him were the other two understudies, one they had already grown acquainted with and the other…

crazy_hoe.png
From the crazed look in her eyes to the jagged teeth, she looked like she belonged in a zoo rather than an estate like this.

For a brief moment, Tak thought she was an exotic pet of some kind before realizing she was a human, while Kelsey’s face lost color as his eyes rolled back into his skull, and he realized he would be dealing with more weirdos.

The girl smiled at them as they entered, not saying anything but giving a half wave as they all stepped up, finally forming a line as one unit; it was only then that Barker decided to address them.

“It’s a pleasure to have you all here- the budding young artists of the next generation,” he said as his maids walked around to stand behind him. He raised a hand to his chest and gave a slight nod downward. “As you all know, I am Burkour Barker. I’m happy to meet you face to face…or should I say, flesh to flesh?” He introduced himself in what seemed to be some attempt at a joke.

The chirping of crickets clearly indicated that no one found it funny.

He quickly raised a fist to cough into it. “Anyhow…” he recovered, “It’s much more important that you six introduce yourselves to me and my maids and each other. After all, you will spend the next three days learning with each other.”

His eyes shifted, locking with Milo’s, and with a small gesture, he offered the white-haired man to take first honors.

“How about you? Your name is fine, lad, but I’d love to hear why you chose to study under me.”

“What does art mean to you?”

CLAD IN GOLDEN DREAMS

She exhaled streams of smoke, gazing down from the roof, down at the city in front of her. She had found herself at yet another precariously tall vantage point once again, staring down at the hive of corruption, violence, and deceit. On the bright side, it was to be a peaceful night. Moon had parked himself in another corner, and both of them were well-fed for the night. She had taken some liberties to sneak some of the food they were serving at the gala below them upstairs to their location. She never was a fan of rich food, and it tasted strange. It was almost too good. The imperfections were what made her diet actually interesting to eat. Still, free food was free food.

Her phone buzzed. Not a good sign. It was far too early for the gala to have ended. She retrieved her phone from her pocket and set it to speaker, for Moon's convenience. The Princess’ voice came through, just in time for her to catch the sounds of chaos starting to rise from the skylight behind her. She shook her head dismally. She hadn’t been a very good security head before, but the lapse in the net that was supposed to catch threats, especially for a high-key event for high-brows, was beyond disappointing.

Thankfully, as always, she came prepared.

She flung a black duffel bag onto the ground and unzipped it. From it, she withdrew a Vepr-12. Built on the foundations of the Ruthenian RPK, it differed from its siblings that came from the same forefathers, where its magazines were allowed for straight-in insertions. Much easier than its rock-and-lock counterparts. She pulled back the charging handle, and released, chambering one round. She had made some modifications to it. The original hard plastic grip had to be replaced with a much softer, more ergonomic Hogue grip, accompanied by a foregrip for better stability, and the foldable stock needed to be replaced with a better, stationary one.

She pulled the tactical harness over her head, and patted the magazines in the pouches. The shells that she was loading them with today were not regular 12-gauge slugs either. She had been meaning to see how the Doom! shells worked out in a firefight against HPs. If it didn't immediately shred their insides, at least the slug would put them out of commission quick. Anti-HP rounds were expensive. For the common folk, this would be a good trade-off. For her, she would like to explore cheaper options.

But first, the appetiser. She withdrew two green grenades that resembled canisters. It wasn't too difficult to find smoke grenades lying around in the market, but not many would choose to bring them along, especially to a place like New Oasis, where shoot first, disappear later was usually the modus operandi for most. She, on the other hand, liked to make an entrance. The disappearing was the easiest part. She pried open the skylight, and peered down into the ensuing chaos. It was easy to pick out the combatants. The ones that stood their ground were either Tigers or trouble. The ones that were running for the exits were civvies. It wasn't hard either to pick out Weiss and Park from the crowd. That mop of dark hair with a streak of light blue, and her soft lilac locks, surrounded by pink, bright walls was unmistakably her quarries.

She turned to Moon. “Secure Weiss and Park. The rest come second.” Her instructions were blunt and direct, and she didn't care how he achieved them. As long as the two were safe, she couldn't be bothered. She turned her attention back to the war zone below.

She hooked her fingers into the pins of the grenades, pulled them off, and flung them into the skylight's opening. As the grenades plummeted down into the gala, she put into place yet another preparation. Twin bundles of ropes hitched and secured to fixtures around the roof were sent down into the room. As smoke began to spout from the grenades, filling the area around Park and Weiss with an obscuring cloud, she took hold of yet another purchase she had made for such a situation.

The Atlas-310 Power Ascender was a tool used by climbers, workmen, and operatives alike for easier ascents up ropes. While a human could probably scale a rope faster than it could in normal situations, extended heights such as these called for power tools like it. They were fairly inexpensive too. She still had spare change to get Lupo and herself some wet dog food. She clamped one around one of the ropes, and turned it on, before stepping off the ledge.

The zipping sound of machine scratching against rope heralded her arrival behind Park and Weiss. She fixed the second power ascender to the second rope, and backed up to her quarries, her Vepr-12 already readied against her shoulder, prioritising their rearguard. Weiss and Park could hold the front, with Knight and another Tiger she recognised but couldn't quite remember the name of probably taking care of things beyond Park's walls. “Weiss, Park, it's time to go.”

Someone blundered through the smoke. No call-outs, not a familiar face, no self-preservation, and the civvies weren't exactly near their position from her vantage point earlier. Definitely not a friendly. The sharp retort from her gun sent him backwards and crashing into a table behind him. She couldn't see if it had been lethal or not, but it was clear that a slug to the chest was still enough to give her some breathing space.

“We have to go, now."

Charlie visibly cringed at the sight and sound of the young boy being attack remorselessly by the troublemakers. It was downright repulsive to see how they were fine with just beating down someone who wasn't even bother to put up any resistance, the gross outnumbering certainly didn't help their case in the slightless, either...

The young man listened to the imposting, large figure speak. His tone was collected, yet somehow still brimming with an air of imtimdation and even status. Whoever this man was, he was no small fry, the guys around him were but his pawns to bend by his will, yes, Charlie knew people like him, he would see them every week, performing toasts with his family before guzzling down fancy, disgusting champagne.

What Charlie didn't want to admit...Was that, at least to a degree, the intimidation factor was working. For the first time in a very long time, the young man was...Scared. Now, he was confident in his own power, that most of the danger that the city could throw at him, he could survive, however, a duel with a single person was not particularly scary. The two bodyguards that tried to stop him from running away from home? Easy stuff...But eight? No matter how much confidence he had in himself, there was no way such a threat wouldn't induce him with some level of dread. And beyond their numbers, the main man was scary in a way which was hard to exactly put into words, his presence was unlike anything Charlie had come across until now.

He looked down, pondering the generous proposition from the ivory-clad criminal. "...Okay then, I'll leave then" Doubtfully, he bowed at the group, before taking a one-eighty turn, taking slow steps away from the group. With sadistic smiles anew, the abusers returned their gaze at the boy, their weapons getting ready to strike down mercilessly, with little care for his survival.

"Huh? Fuck's he doing?"

One of the thugs asked, looking to his side, finding himself espectating a lone Charlie pulling a large garbage container away from the building's wall, the screeching of its poorly-oiled wheels calling for the attention of most of the thugs in the group. He let it rest idly in the middle of the alley, the pulling boy in question now concealed behind the container.

"AS IF"

With an aggressive front kick, the garbage container sent racing down the alley, coming in at high speeds at the main builk of the ambushers. A few managed to get out of the way time, including their standout leader, but three of them were unfortunate enough to get caught by the rushing hunk of steel. From the young boy's perspective, he would've been able to see almost in slow motion as the men's faces got hit cleanly by it, the metal pressing their pressing against their faces in a ridiculous manner, as metal warped flesh.

The sound of the container violently crashing nearby could be heard by everyone, the majority still startled by the sudden projectile that came their way. "GET AWAY FROM HIM!" shouted a now leaping Charlie, his sudden charge connecting with the large leader of the group without giving him any time to react, the grand momentum pushing him flying many meters away.

"Can you stand?" Asked the young man at the helpless teenager, extending his hand in an offer for aid. He hoped that the golden boy would cooperate, and if so, he would do it quickly, as the other thugs were already getting ready to start the assault.

BACK IN THE GAME
Hitoshi's heart beat like a war drum, signalling his lack of proper cardio as he dashed towards his chosen exit. He really needed to intensify his workout routine and get on top of this; this was unacceptable. But, regardless, he managed to make it to his destination as a throbbing pounded into his hearing. The outside world dulled in its volume as he observed the pandemonium unfolding from the scene. Countless happy days were ruined today because of this, as people clung onto their loved ones or ran with their children to the safety of their vehicles or to the roads further away from the zoo.

A mass of bodies created a tidal wave of panic that only intensified in a feedback loop as victims influenced one another in this mob mentality. Sirens screamed in the distance, promising help from emergency services, only to fall on deaf ears of people's flight or fight instincts taking hold. And, worse still, Hitoshi couldn't see a damn thing among the masses. No sign at all of any strange figures nor of Elizabeth. The veteran let out a few deep breaths to calm himself down, just in time to hear Milo's words coming from the phone. "Understood! I'm at my point too!" he spoke into the group call, before scanning the scenery again.

Gritting his teeth in mounting frustration, his eyes darted to unfamiliar faces and moving cars as they attempted to leave - only to cause a traffic jam that frustrated tensions even more. Hitoshi spoke into the phone again: "I'm not seeing anything here. Tell me you got something Milo? Charlie?"

At Milo's chosen juncture, much of the same was unfolding as where Hitoshi was. Disorganized fleeing. Trampling on one another. Misery of the masses. What he did notice, however, was that emergency services had already sped towards the zoo only to be met with violent resistance. Two more fireballs exploded near the entrances, causing a cascading effect of fear to grip he citizenry fleeing. Two police cars had already gone up in flames, and action was unfolding at exits of the zoo's secondary parking lot.

Whoever was the cause of these, they seemed to be stopping municipal services from reaching the zoo. A distraction in the form of a fiery foe. And the blazes only continued to come as a fire truck was the next victim, its inhabitants scuttling out of what would have been their metal tomb moments afterwards. The sirens reached a fever pitch as the city felt itself shaken to its core from such violence. Unprecedented for a place like Boustan, yet seemingly a daily occurrence in New Oasis. Worlds apart, measured by the responses of the people living within it.

Charlie's efforts had not been in vain, however, as he lunged and leapt towards his destination. Landing at the bottom of the stairs leading to the platform, he dashed upwards - concrete flying by from his speed - until reaching its summit. There, he was greeted with an entirely empty station - save for the tram parked with its doors open. And Elizabeth. She was here, being held by a group of serious, masked men as she looked with panic to her situation. Gripping tightly to her doll, they were in the process of moving onto the tram and leading her along roughly.

However, her fearful eyes caught a glimpse of Charlie - trying to vocalize her desperation - only to in turn bring the attention of her kidnappers to this intruder. "SHE'S HERE! THEY'RE GETTING HER ON THE TRAM!" Charlie shouted into his phone, pocketing it before charging straight at the group without hesitation.

"¡Mierda! ¡Mata al bastardo!" one of them spoke in Mesque, pointing at the charging blue haried rookie.

Two of them rushed forward to intercept Charlie, one of whom shot out an energy whip that wrapped around the rookie's torso and arms and yanked on it harshly. The centripetal force forced Charlie off his feet as he was flung into a nearby concrete pillar with a violent crash, bursting through it and landing on the opposite side of the station entirely. But he had no time to rest as the larger of the two lunged in the air and landed atop the young man, his feet planting straight into Charlie's chest to further plant him into the concrete foundations of the station. The menacing masked man then grinned with crooked, yellow teeth as he brought up his fist and let loose a sharp bone-appendage that burst out of his upper wrist.

"Hora de morir, tonto."

Hitoshi had been still looking for any change at his exit, until the phone chat burst to life again with Charlie's announcement. The veteran's eyes widened from the revelation as his gaze darted back to the zoo. Wasting no time, he dashed back into the scene and rounded the corner near the central roundabout to make his way to the tram station. He doubled his pace, straining his still recovering body to its limits as he dashed up the steps and reached the top as well - much to the annoyance of the kidnappers who had remained put to deal with the nuisances to their plan.

"HEY! JACKASSES!" Hitoshi shouted, dashing further as adrenaline pumped into his bloodstream. The battle was on, as he slid under the whip that had been used against Charlie earlier before delivering a kick into the man's belly. This caused the man to audibly gasp and spit, stumbling back a few feet before falling onto his ass.

"The Metroline-Central Zoo Tram will be departing in 15 seconds." the automated announcer rang aloud, giving urgency to their situation.

Sebastian took a long drag from the caramel macchiato, enjoying the sweet creamy taste ladened with complexly dark coffee and caramel. It might've been the placebo effect, but Sebastian immediately felt the coffee and sugar jumpboost his body. He grinned at Inigo, "So this is what it is like to be out on the field. It's so much more engaging than being cooped up in the office all the time."

Being a prosecutor often meant days of straight paperwork. The stereotypical courtroom drama rarely ever came to be. Instead, Sebastian was perpetually weighing in on things that defense attorneys wanted, poring over every document sent to him. And that had gotten worse now that Sebastian and his team were working on prosecuting Yuudai Fuse. It was enough to drive a man insane. Every chance to have a breath of fresh air was heavenly.

"So, Sergeant Han, run by me, how does 'going on patrol' typically go?" Sebastian asked. He buckled his seatbelt; he was a mushroom of the law after all. The prosecutor took another sip of his drink before placing it into the car's cupholder. "Are we just out to 'stop crime?' Are we allowed to go join in on any gang fight and beat both sides into submission?"

Knowing Inigo, Sebastian had a feeling that even if the Sergeant wasn't allowed to take part in gang fights, he would do it anyway.

The sound of music told her she was in the right place.

There was a distinct possibility that she could have been lied to so she was glad that it at least seemed right. Convincing her sister and Yong-Yut’s cousins to give her the address of their little homecoming dance was less difficult than she imagined. It was probably only to avoid her bugging Noizumi for a year party in the phoenixes, since apparently that was no event worth celebrating.

She was just glad she’d overheard it at all.

Her suit would have been much harder to get if she was later to know.

It was unfortunate that the event was ticket only, made it much harder to surprise YY. Though she looked at it like the ultimate stealth mission. Slip past teachers until she found YY and then they would have no reason to even question. Plus if they did start shit she’d just knock ‘em out and run.

It’s not like she needed to worry about school after all.

She spotted a familiar duo and immediately perked up barely caring about being stealthy as she zoomed her way to Vulken and Yong-Yut. With as much grace as she had when they first met she flung herself to YY aiming to trap her in a hug.

“YY! You look so cute!”

Whoops. She must have been too loud with how quick the other was to react dodging behind Vulken. She looked him up and down as well before aiming to throw an arm around Vulken.

“Geez, look at you looking all fancy and shit. You clean up well.”

Hyun nodded and got up. There was nothing else to do than just act at this point. "It won't take long." He boasted, getting out of the car. Crystals formed in his hands, then gravitated around his body. A surge in electricity manifested in each one, until the crystals where shattered to minuscule pieces of quartz-like sand. Hyun moved the pseudo sand around his body as he entered the building, to potentially obstruct the view of his targets. When he reached the second floor, he created a large crystal and threw it.

Another one? For what purpose. He let electricity surge in this one too. But... it did not shatter into tiny pieces like before. Instead it exploded, making sharp pieces of crystal spread in various directions like projectiles.

"Hi." He said, on a calm tone. He didn't care for a reply tho.
